Thanks to years of research and development in state-of-the-art technology, you are about to embark on an incomparable sleep experience on your Softside Air or Fluid Mattress. As InnoMax® Sleep Systems are uniquely designed to accommodate either fluid or air support mattresses, instructions for the proper assembly of both types of systems are included in this manual. Please refer to the instructions that are applicable for the system you have purchased: Air Support Assembly Instructions Water Support Assembly Instructions Follow the simple assembly instructions, and if you have purchased an Air Support System, be sure and read through the sections on “Troubleshooting” and “Tips” to find out all you need to know to benefit fully from the comfort and support of this advanced sleep system. 1 To help make your home delivery go as smoothly as possible, we recommend the following tips: 1. All walls and walkways in the path of the delivery must be cleared. Remove pictures, mirrors, nails, plants, tables, etc. 2. Have the set up area for new furniture clear of existing furniture. 3. Remove any breakable objects in the delivery area. 4. Lay rugs, blankets or cardboard down to protect wood, tile, or light carpet floors. OUTSIDE METRO DENVER AND MOUNTAIN DELIVERIES To help make your home delivery go as smoothly as possible, we need to be sure we can get your delivery to you. 1. Can our delivery vehicle make it up your driveway? Is there a place where the delivery vehicle can turn around once they reach your house. 2. How steep is your driveway? 3. Are there any hairpin turns that our truck might not be able to maneuver? 4. How wide is your driveway? Are there any branches in the way? Will it be a problem if our truck breaks any branches? 5. Are there any low electrical wires, cables or tree branches near or around your driveway? 6. Is your driveway paved, gravel or dirt? If the driveway is dirt, is there a possibility our truck will get stuck if the drive is muddy? Also, if the drive is muddy, is there a problem if our trucks leave deep tire tracks in your driveway? 7. Are there any narrow bridges, ditches or dips in the road that could pose a problem due to the weight and length of our truck? 8. Will your driveway be accessible if it has snowed or is snowing? If our truck is unable to make it up your driveway, could you be available with a pickup truck to meet our delivery truck to unload the furniture? 2 • Keep furniture away from heating and air conditioning sources to prevent loss of moisture in the wood. • Use a felt backing on lamps, ashtrays, and other accessories to prevent scratching and gouging. • Use place mats under plates and hot pads under serving dishes when serving hot food. • Put houseplants in drip-proof pots and keep foliage from touching furniture surfaces to prevent moisture damage to wood. • Always use a protective pad when using your furniture as a writing surface. • Use coasters under both hot and cold drinks. • Blot up spills promptly. Water left over a prolonged period of time will cause white spots in the finish. Alcohol, perfume, after-shaves lotions and medicines can cause severe furniture damage. • Do not place synthetic rubber or plastic items directly on wood to avoid a chemical change to furniture finish. • Do not leave newspapers or magazines lying on wood furniture due to possible ink "bleeding" into the furniture finish & wood. • Avoid using nail polish remover or other harsh household products near wood furniture to avoid possible damage from spills or splashes. • Rotate the placement of accessories on wood furniture surfaces from time to time to redistribute wear patterns. • Dust in the direction of the grain with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. If desired, lightly polish your furniture in the direction of the grain with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. COLOR CHANGES Color change is a natural phenomenon of wood. Woods change color with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light coming from windows and fluorescent lighting. Cherry wood veneer color changes are most rapid, taking on a darker, “golden” tone with age. Walnut will lighten with “golden” hues. Oak will darken and yellow slightly. As a rule, lighter colored finishes (i.e. Henna Cherry and Red Cherry) are more apt to show these color changes compared to darker finishes (i.e. Mahogany and Walnut). Darker colors act as a “sun block” and reduce the aging effect. We recommend that for the first year, you occasionally move the items kept on your desk, such as desk pads, telephones and in/out baskets, to a different location on the surface to allow uniform amounts of light to reach all surface areas. This will help prevent light or dark spots from occurring. All wood manufacturers have the same issues, so the same care can be applied to any veneer product. FOR SMOOTH DRAWER OPERATION • To maintain proper operation of the drawer suspension, lubricate the area housing the ball bearings every three to six months with a high quality petroleum jelly type lubricant. • To ensure correct drawer alignment, your desk or credenza must be leveled. Check the level & adjust the glides if necessary. • To keep pulls and hardware looking new we recommend using a window-type cleaner for all decorative hardware. FABRIC CARE Many furniture fabrics now carry the furniture industry's cleanability code adopted in 1969. It gives the consumer information about the proper methods to clean specific fabrics. There are four letters in the code, immediately followed by care instructions. The code letters are W, S, W-S, and X. Permanent care labels will normally be found under the seat cushion. When spot cleaning, it is always a good idea for consumers to first pretest fabric for discoloration and shrinkage on an inconspicuous part of the furniture. When overall cleaning is required, professional cleaning will often achieve the most satisfactory results. Never remove cushion covers or arm caps for separate cleaning. This may destroy the backing, cause shrinking and color changes. Weekly vacuuming or light brushing helps to remove soil and prevent the embedding of dirt or grime between fibers which can increase abrasion and wear. The life of upholstered cushions can be increased through periodic turning. The weekly reversal of loose cushions will allow even distribution of wear over a long periods of time. Spills should be gently blotted up as quickly as possible. Please call or visit the website of the manufacturer of your furniture for more information on precise cleaning and care instructions as it relates to your specific furniture. 3 SOFTSIDE AIR SUPPORT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Please Read All Instructions Carefully Before Starting Assembly Note: The electronic circuitry of the Synergy™ and Accura Air Inflation Systems are sensitive to fluctuations in power supply. It is strongly recommended that these systems be used in conjunction with a reliable surge protector. The Benefits Of Air Support Independent studies prove Air Sleep Systems are superior in comfort and support. Conventional beds resist natural body contours, producing pressure points in some areas and no support in others. Airbeds, on the other hand, compress and actually conform to individual parts of your body, contouring to the shape of the person, and evenly distributing body weight for minimum contact pressure, even in difficult areas like the small of the back, maintaining optimum spinal support with fewer pressure points-which of course results in more comfortable, restful, undisturbed sleep...a better night’s sleep! Adjustable firmness; dual air chambers inside our mattresses can be made firmer or softer so the exact personalized comfort level can be achieved. At the touch of a button, you can customize the correct support to fit your personal preference, from extra firm to feather soft. This is essential for couples because people of different sizes and weights cannot sleep on the same surface and both be as comfortable as they should in order to get the best possible sleep, so that your waking up feeling relaxed, refreshed and energized! 4 AIR SUPPORT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Quilted Cover For Surface Softness Foam Sidewalls For Firm Edge Support Heavy-Duty Air Cores For Individual Support Wired Control For Personal Comfort In Just Seconds Air Control System For Quick Firmness Adjustment 1. ZIP UP THE TOP QUILTING: Position the Quilted Top and zip up using both zippers (zip from head to foot of bed). Now fully inflate Air Cores and refer to “Tips”. 6 TIPS Everyone will have a different firmness/comfort level and that level will change from time to time over the years. To try to find your initial firmness/comfort level, we suggest you follow these steps. • • • • Lie down on your fully inflated bed. Lie in your natural sleeping position and with the pillow you will use. • Let your spine adjust to this for a few minutes. Then touch the “Softer “ button on your handheld remote control. This will let air out to give you a softer comfort level. Once you have chosen your firmness/comfort level, leave it for several days before making any major adjustments. This way your body and spine get a chance to adjust to your new sleeping surface. • Since it can take up to 30 days to become accustomed to a different comfort level, we suggest you make changes in small increments when changing your firmness. Also remember that every time you significantly change the firmness/comfort level of your mattress, it’s like getting used to a whole new sleeping surface, so give it several days before adjusting again. External temperature changes (hot/cold) may affect the internal air pressure of your mattress. If your bed seems too soft in colder period, simply inflate. If it seems too hard in warmer period, deflate to soften surface slightly. Now get ready to enjoy a really good night’s sleep! TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS WHAT TO DO IF SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT... PROBLEM Air Chamber loses air. Air Control operates but mattress will not inflate or deflate on demand. Hand control fails to function on demand for inflate or deflate. Can I run the Power Unit for extended periods of time? • • • • • • POSSIBLE SOLUTION Check hose connection to the power unit to be sure it is tight. Hand Control may be stuck on “Softer”. Power Unit may be leaking air. To check for defect, fully inflate air chambers, and remove hoses from power unit. If there is still leakage, it is in the hose or air chamber. Call factory for service instructions. Check to be sure that you are using the correct hand control. Check air hoses for bends or crimps that could restrict air flow. Make sure the power module is plugged in fully to a working electrical socket. If it is plugged in use a lamp or other available electrical device to check that the socket has power. Operating the Power Unit for longer than 2 minutes without allowing the motor to cool will not damage the unit; however, it may reduce the life expectancy of the power system. For further help, call your dealer. 7 SOFTSIDE FLUID SUPPORT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Please Read All Instructions Carefully Before Starting Assembly The Benefits Of Fluid Support Why a waterbed? Today, the waterbed enjoys wide acceptance among people in all age brackets, income levels, and life styles. Waterbeds can be found in hospitals, rest homes, hotels, and motels. As more and more people experienced waterbeds, the special benefits became well known. Comfort, health, cleanliness, warmth, and convenience; new owners were pleased and became the best advertisers. Compare the support comparison charts below. Waterbeds offer a gentle, more even support for restful sleep. Waterbeds and medicine, who can benefit? The principles of flotation have been documented to be especially helpful with many conditions, from arthritis to orthopedic problems to home care of various ailments. The controlled heated waterbed can help by offering a unique system of flotation. With this system, the body is uniformly supported by the water, and the body weight is distributed more evenly over the surface. This eliminates pressure on various parts of the body, the shoulders, small of back, hip, tail bone and heels. Circulation is improved. The motion and warmth of the bed helps a person to relax, provides comfort and helps in producing better sleep habits. The waterbed represents an important advance in the care of patients, from helping to reduce pain to enhancing sleep - the benefits of sleeping on water far outweigh that of a traditional mattress. 8 FLUID SUPPORT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FLOTATION BED COMPONENTS: 1. Quilted zippered mattress cover 2. Vinyl waterbed mattress or tube system 3. Vinyl waterbed liner 4. Fiber wrapped foam sidewalls 5. Fiber wrapped foam head and foot walls 6. 2" foam sheet (Utilized with shallow fill or tube systems. Placement varies by system. Consult your dealer.) 7. Box foundation (optional) 8. Heater(s) - See “Setting up your flotation bed”, item #7A for placement Sidewalls & ad He ot Fo ADDITIONAL PARTS REQUIRED: 1. Universal Bedlegs, metal bed frame or riser compatible pedestal system. 2. Fill & Drain Kit, including waterbed treatment. NOTE: • Read all instructions before starting to assemble bed. • If using a waterbed heater, read & follow instructions provided with the heater. • Use LUKE WARM WATER to fill the mattress to prevent mildew. SETTING UP YOUR FLOTATION BED: 1. Determine where you want to put the bed. Assemble the metal bedframe or pedestal. It will be centered underneath the bed’s foundation, so place it approximately 6–8" from the wall for flat headboards or 16–18" from the wall for bookcase style headboards. Make sure that the pedestal system is square. 2. Place the foundation squarely on the riser or pedestal. Do not place the foundation flush against the wall. Remember to leave room for your headboard or bookcase. Make sure the foundation extends equally over all four sides of the riser and is sitting squarely on the pedestal. 3. Place the quilted zipper shell on top of the foundation by matching the corners of the cover to the corners of the foundation. (Be sure and place the end of the cover with the “law” tags at the head of the bed.) 9 4. Completely unzip the quilted zipper shell and fold back the top neatly. Fold the sides of the quilted zipper shell down and over the foundation sides. The sides of the zipper shell will be inside out folded over the foundation. 5. Unroll each pair of foam rails. The head and foot rails should be positioned first. (Exception: On the Platinum, full depth 8” softside, the siderails go in first.) The head rail has two exit holes for the heater cord(s), so make sure you position it at the head of the bed. The longer rails are the side rails. Unfold them. Next make sure the cross webbing material is smooth and place the side rails in position on the foundation, pull the cover down toward sides of your foundation. Make sure each foam rail fits flush with the adjoining rail so each corner is aligned. 6. Make sure the corners are snug and tight. Double check that the foam rails and quilted zipper shell are square on the foundation. 7. Placement of Heater (Follow manufacturer’s instructions) Caution: The manufacturer recommends using a 120 watt solid state hybrid heater with Flotation Beds. A higher watt heater may cause damage to your Flotation Bed, and will void the warranty. A. Place the 120 watt hybrid heater pad inside the foam rail tray cavity. It should lay flat and smooth on top of the material attached to the rails. (The heater pad is always directly under the safety liner, and the fluid chamber is always directly above liner; regardless of system type.) B. Thread the heater pad cord through the opening where the side and head rail meet in the upper right or left corner and then through the adjacent hole punched through the bottom of the quilted zipper shell. Insert this cord into the control unit outside the bed. C. Starting on the outside of the bed, thread the temperature sensor that is attached to the control unit back through the pre-cut hole and rails so it lays next to the pad. Make sure it is not touching the heater pad. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for exact placement. Do not plug in heater until the flotation mattress is completely filled with water. 8. Next, remove the safety liner from package, unfold and lay inside the foam rail tray over the heater. Pull the fitted sides of the liner over the rails and tuck snugly. Smooth out any wrinkles on the bottom of the liner, making sure not to disturb heater pad placement. 9. Pull up the corners of the quilted zipper shell, making sure the mattress cavity is square on the foundation. 10. Unfold the mattress and place inside the cavity on top of the liner. 11. Square the corners of the mattress to the corners inside the cavity. The valve should be located in the right corner at the foot of the bed. 10 FILLING THE MATTRESS ★ Square the corners of the mattress with the corners of the cavity. This is CRITICAL and must be done before the mattress(es) is filled. You can also, before filling the waterbed - inflate with air. Use a hair dryer on cool setting or a shop vac. Inflate 6-8” above frame or siderails. Plug valve, and push gently on center, pull the corners straight and square off corners. 1. Holding the vinyl mattress in place with one hand, grab the butterfly cap on the fill valve and gently pull the spout up. 2. Remove the cap and safety plug from the fill valve and allow air to enter the mattress. 3. Follow the instructions in your Fill and Drain Kit to attach the hose nozzle to your bed and faucet. 4. Begin filling the mattress. Fill with warm water. Note: If using tubes, fill them to fill level indicated on tube. The proper fill-level for optimum comfort is a matter of personal preference. Test the comfort level periodically and add more water if needed. Do not fill above the foam rails. 5. After filling the mattress, remove air bubbles. Have a partner hold the fill valve up while you sweep the air towards the valve. Start at the head of the bed and work the air bubbles toward the valve. 6. Add one application of Waterbed Conditioner. This should be added every six months to keep the water fresh and odor free. 7. Replace caps on the fill valve and press down. Wipe up any water that may have spilled on the mattress or liner. Plug in heater and adjust according to manufacturer’s instructions. Let the water in the mattress reach room temperature before zipping the quilted top over the mattress to avoid any possible condensation. We recommend using a mattress pad to protect your cover from damage that would not be covered by the warranty. MATTRESS MAINTENANCE: 1. Add Waterbed Conditioner once every six months. 2. Clean vinyl surface with vinyl cleaner periodically. 11 DRAINING INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Unplug heater before draining mattress. 2. Screw faucet adapter to your sink taking care not to cross thread the adapter. 3. Screw siphon pump to faucet adapter. 4. Attach hose to siphon pump. 5. Attach hose adapter to other end of garden hose. Pull mattress valve out of mattress, fully insert adapter into valve and tighten. 6. To start the siphon action, remove all air bubbles then prime the garden hose by turning the faucet on and covering up the bottom of the pump with your hand to allow water to fill the hose. Once the hose is completely filled with water, remove your hand from the bottom of the pump and allow water to flow down the sink. For maximum suction, turn both hot and cold taps on full pressure. Keep the hose adapter inserted in the vinyl mattress in contact with the water at all times. 7. Allow 1/2 hour draining with faucet fully opened. When mattress appears empty, leave hose attached and slowly roll the mattress up like a sleeping bag, towards the valve. To Drain Tubes: Empty directly into bathtub or sink. If tubes are too heavy to carry, empty into bucket. ★ Important: Avoid damage to internal fiber or hydraulic network by ensuring it does not shift. Grasp firmly between top and bottom skin of mattress and roll together. When completely drained, disengage hose and recap. ★ Important: Do not drag tubes, as this may cause friction burn to the vinyl. ELECTRIC PUMP USAGE/DRAINING INSTRUCTIONS: ★ If interested in using a pump - please ask your sleep consultant for more information. 1. Unplug heater before draining mattress. 2. Remove all of the air from your water mattress. 3. Attach the “perfect union” connector on the end of the clear hose on the pump to the valve in your water mattress. Make sure the connection is tight to maintain proper suction. 4. You must prime the pump, tip the pump on the side, pour approx. 2 cups of water in the outlet side of the pump. (Note: Some newer style pumps are self priming) 5. Connect your exit hose to the discharge port on the pump. Ensure the exit hose is in the desired location. The force of the water can actually cause the hose to flop about and come out of a normal bathtub. Do not leave the hose unattended while indoors. Place the pump on a towel or cardboard to prevent possible damage to the floor or other surface. 6. Plug the pump into a grounded electrical outlet. Note: There is no on/off switch and the pump will begin to operate immediately. 7. Allow the pump to run until the water slows to a trickle. The pump will remove nearly all of the water and the mattress will become vacuum-sealed to ensure all internal support features remain in their proper location. Do not lift the head of the mattress until the mattress is vacuum packed, as this could damage the mattress. 8. Immediately unplug the pump. DO NOT RUN THE PUMP WITHOUT WATER as this can severely damage the pump. 4. Disconnect the perfect union connector from the mattress and immediately attach the cap and seal to ensure the mattress remains vacuum packed. 12 HARDSIDE FLUID SUPPORT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Please Read All Instructions Carefully Before Starting Assembly 13 WARNING: WATERBED ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS THE MATTRESS Never leave any infant, or handicapped child who cannot turn over, unattended on this or any other adult mattress. Infant or handicapped children can suffocate in the face down position or get caught between the mattress and frame, headboard or wall and suffocate. NOTE: A mattress pad and linens are very important to your waterbed. Not only will it make it more comfortable, but it stops the waterbed from robbing you of natural body heat as well as soaking up normal body oils that can deteriorate your mattress over time. Lay out your frame and hardware. Note that the footboard and backboard have grooved bottoms. The grooves should face in toward each other. Make sure all frame boards have finished surfaces facing down on the floor. B. If your frame includes a headboard, attach it to the back frame board using the slats and screws provided. REMEMBER: The groove in the frame board must face inward once the headboard is secured. C. Assemble the frame with the corner brackets and screws provided. Note the finished top to the frame is facing up. D. Position your assembled frame exactly where you want it in your room. Now refer to Step 2 -- Building the Pedestal. 14 BOOKCASE HEADBOARD A. Lay out your frame and hardware. Note: The footboard and backboard have grooved bottoms that should face inward toward each other. Also the finished side of the frame boards should face the floor. B. Assemble the frame with the corner brackets and screws provided. Note that the side frame boards extend past the backboard. The extended portion of the frame will support your bookcase headboard. A sure way to insure correct internal spacing from head to foot is to use one of the deck boards (see Step 2), as a measure. Lay the 1 piece of deck into the groove at the foot, now bring the head frame board in between the side rails until the deck fits in the groove. Mount at that point. Now remove the deck board and go to Step 2 -- Building the Pedestal. C. Position your assembled frame exactly where you want it in your room. This photo shows how the bookcase headboard will be positioned on the extended frame AT A LATER TIME. DO NOT MOUNT NOW! Refer to Step #2. FOUR POSTER MODEL A. Lay out your frame, posts and hardware. Finished sides should face down toward floor exposing unfinished mounting sides. B. Mount the footboard to the two shorter posts using the brackets and screws provided. Some styles have hardware already mounted. Careful when mounting brackets to keep each bracket the same portioned height on each frame board and post. C. Mount the headboard and the frame backboard to the taller posts also using the brackets and screws provided. D. Mount each side frame board to the posts attached to the headboard and footboard. Make sure the finished edges of the frame boards face up. E. Position your assembled frame where you want it in your room. Refer to Step 2 -- Building the Pedestal. 15 STEP 2: BUILDING THE PEDESTAL Standard Pedestal A. Lay out the pieces of your standard pedestal inside of the frame as pictured. The finished sides when assembled are to face outward. B. Slide the brown corner brackets on each corner of the pedestal. Slide the corner bracket on to each pedestal board at an angle, for easiest assembly. C. Firm pressure is generally required to slide the corner brackets all the way on and lock the corner into position. D. Assemble the two sets of the center support system, by inserting the slotted pieces into one another. Position the two internal supports in the center of the pedestal, head to foot and side to side. You may receive a center support system of one longer piece and two shorter pieces that are slotted. Position down the middle of the pedestal. E. The pedestal should be accurately centered within the frame in its final position. F. Next, without letting it slide our of place, tilt the frame on to one side. Avoid moving the pedestal. After Step 3 you will lower the frame onto the deck boards which will be mounted on the pedestal. This does not apply to 4 poster beds. Build pedestal and position deck boards inside of 4 poster frame, without moving frame. STEP 2: BUILDING THE PEDESTAL Six Drawer Pedestal A. Lay one three drawer section of the pedestal inside the frame, recessed slightly on the side and at the head and foot as pictured. If you purchased a two drawer section pedestal, use the same procedure as the three drawer that is pictured. B. Lay the second three drawer section of the pedestal inside the frame as pictured. 16 STEP 2: BUILDING THE PEDESTAL Six Drawer Pedestal Continued C. Slide the wood pieces into the spaces between drawer sections as pictured. For Queen size and Super Single size waterbeds the wood pieces may need to be cut down or not needed at all (hence push both three drawer sections tightly together.) D. Be certain the assembled six drawer pedestal is accurately centered within the frame in it’s final position. E. Next, without letting it slide out of place, tilt the frame on to one side. Avoid moving the pedestal. After Step 3 you will lower the frame onto the deck boards which will be mounted on the pedestal. This does not apply to the 4 poster beds. Position drawer sections and deck boards inside of 4 poster frame, without moving frame. STEP 2: BUILDING THE PEDESTAL Twelve Drawer Pedestal A. See directions for the Six Drawer Pedestal. Follow them exactly first. Next add the third three drawer section on top of half of the completed six drawer pedestal. This procedure also works for two drawer section pedestals. B. Add the fourth three drawer section as pictured. C. Position the corners as accurately as possible, with special care given at the foot of the bed since it is most visible. D. Slide the wood pieces into the spaces between drawer sections just as previously done for the bottom set of drawers. E. Again be certain that your twelve (or ten, eight drawer) pedestal is accurately positioned where you want it. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE IT ONCE THE BED IS ASSEMBLED. F. Next, without letting it slide out of place, tilt the frame on to one side. Avoid moving the pedestal. After Step 3 you will lower the frame onto the deck boards which will be mounted on the pedestal. 17 STEP 2: BUILDING THE PEDESTAL Captain’s Pedestal A. (Some Captain’s Pedestals vary in configuration. If yours needs some sub-assembly, do it prior to this step. Ask your sleep consultant for more details.) Lay one of the larger drawer sections inside the frame, recessed as pictured B. Lay the second large drawer assembly sections inside, on the other side of the frame, as pictured. C. Next, tilt the frame on to one side. Avoid moving the drawer sections. After Step 3 you will lower the frame onto the deck boards which will be mounted on the pedestal. D. Now, slide in or attach the door section and wood pieces in the appropriate slots. These should be snug to assure proper support. E. Be certain the assembled Captain’s Pedestal is accurately centered within the frame and in it’s final position, before moving to Step 3. STEP 3: LAY THE DECK BOARDS ON THE PEDESTAL A. King size - position the three 24 inch deck board pieces so that the pedestal is equally recessed on all sides. The cut corners on the deck boards should be positioned at the four corners. B. Queen size - position the two 24 inch deck boards, with the one 12 inch deck board in the middle, so that the pedestal is equally recessed on all sides. The cut corners should be positioned at the four corners. C. Super Single size - position the two 24 inch deck boards so that the pedestal is equally recessed on all sides. The cut corners on the deck boards should be positioned at the four corners. 18 STEP 4: MOUNT THE FRAME TO THE DECK A. Lower the frame onto the deck. Make sure the grooves on the bottom of the footboard and backboard overlap the deckboards. Re-check that the pedestal is centered and in position. B. This photo shows how the grooves overlap the deck. C. Optional: Attach the “L” bracket into the middle of each frame board and deck to secure the deck to the frame. To protect liner and mattress from metal burrs, cover all inside metal brackets with masking or duct tape. D. If your waterbed features a bookcase headboard, mount it to the frame now. Secure the headboard to the frame with the flat brackets screwed in from underneath the headboard behind the frame. Slide the frame carefully away from the wall a few inches, if needed, to allow more room to mount. Once mounted slide the frame back into final position. E. If you purchased upholstered rail caps, attach them to your frame now. The padded rail caps slip over the frame edges. At your option, you may wish to secure the caps onto the frame with screws, if needed. STEP 5: INSTALL HEATER UNIT Unplug heater before filling or draining your waterbed. Follow specific heater manufacturer’s guidelines for detailed installation instructions. A. Place the heating pad in the center area of the deck avoiding the cracks in the deck boards. For Queen or Super Single place heating pad to one side or the other. Do Not Place Over Cracks. B. Mount the thermostat control to either side of the frame, depending on where you will plug it in. Control unit may mount to side or underneath. See manufacturer’s instructions. Use the screws provided. Securely plug the cord from the heating pad into the thermostat control. 19 STEP 5: INSTALL HEATER UNIT CONTINUED C. Run the thermostat control’s sensor tube through the corner hole inside the frame onto the deck. The sensor tube should be positioned midway between the frame and the heating pad, preferably twelve inches away from the heating pad. D. To test the temperature control system, plug it in, turn the thermostat up and place your hand on the heating pad. As soon as you feel it start to warm up Unplug The Control From Your Wall Socket! E. If you purchased a massage unit, install it now. Since massage units vary in installation, follow manufacturer’s instructions. Do Not Place Unit On Top Of Heating Pad, Keep 6” From Pad! CAUTION: Bodily contact with heater pad surface may be harmful and may be caused by an under-filled mattress or "bottoming out" on the heater. Use of this heater is strictly prohibited by an infant, invalid, anyone unable to feel heater, or anyone unable to get out of bed without assistance. After bed set-up is completed, lie down on mattress to ensure no part of the body is in contact with the bottom of the deck board. Any contact with the bottom of the bed is "bottoming out" and could possibly cause harmful burns. STEP 6: INSTALL SAFETY LINER AND MATTRESS A. If you purchased the standard safety liner, spread it out in your frame. Smooth out all wrinkles, especially over the heating pad. Align all corners of the liner to the corners of your frame. B. Simply spread out the Stand-Up liner inside your frame. It will stand-up inside the frame by itself. Smooth out the wrinkles, especially over the heating pad! C. Lay out your watermattress inside your safety liner with the valve at the foot. Carefully avoid shifting any of the baffle inserts, if you bought a motion reduced mattress. Remove the wrinkles on the bottom and make sure the mattress is evenly centered. D. Align the corners of the mattress with the corners of the frame. If your safety liner, heating pad, or thermostat sensor tube shifted during this process, reposition it now. 20 STEP 7: FILLING THE WATER MATTRESS A. From your bathroom faucet, remove the aerator by unscrewing it. (If your bathroom faucet does not have an aerator, you will have to use your kitchen faucet or an outside faucet.) B. Attach the faucet connector you purchased with your waterbed care kit, into your faucet. Next attach a garden hose to the faucet connector. Make a tight fit to avoid spray leakage (a towel placed over the faucet while filling will keep any leakage from spraying.) To help eliminate unclean water in your bed, flush running water though the garden hose for about 10 minutes before filling your bed. C. Pour in your waterbed conditioner. Attach the waterbed hose connector onto your garden hose. Insert it into your "poppedup" valve and attach the hose connector and valve securely together to avoid leakage. Wrap a towel around this connector to soak up any unavoidable leakage. D. Fill your waterbed, checking on it periodically, with mild to warm water approximately one quarter to one half inch below the side of the frame boards. Shut off the water and remove the hose. E. Remove the air bubbles inside the mattress. Do this by "pushing" them with a broomstick towards the valve which is "popped-up". Remove all the bubbles or they will create a "sloshing" sound. You will have to remove air bubbles again in about three days and also occasionally thereafter. F. Insert the plug and securely screw on the cap. Plug in your temperature control system according to specific manufacturer's instructions and turn the thermostat to 80 - 85. Within 3 days, you can more accurately adjust up or down to your personal comfort level. G. This close up photo shows how to insert your cap and plug without allowing air to get in the mattress and without allowing water to spill out. You cap and plug may be a one piece design. Not separate as shown. 21 SPECIAL SECTION: DRAINING YOUR WATERBED ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR WATERBED HEATER BEFORE DRAINING OR FILLING YOUR WATERBED! A. First, unplug your heater. Next, insert your garden hose with waterbed hose connector into the "popped-up" valve, as pictured. (Note: Photos show the standard syphon pump. However, for best results and ease of draining, we suggest you rent an electric pump available at InnoMax. For instructions on draining using an electric pump refer to Electric Pump Usage/Draining Instructions located in the Softside Fluid Support Assembly Instructions section.) B. Weigh down the area around the valve with a few heavy objects, such as telephone books. This step will help prevent air bubbles inside the mattress from getting in your garden hose and stopping the siphoning action you will create. C. Mount your drain pump to your closest faucet and attach your garden hose. Make sure your fittings are tight. With the "bell valve" in the "up" position, turn on the water to put more water in the mattress. This step pushes the air in your hose into your bed so you can create the continuous water siphon you need. (If you don't have a drain pump, see Draining without a drain pump further instructions.) D. Once water is flowing into the bed for a few seconds, turn the "bell valve" to the "down" position, leaving the water flowing full blast. The water from your faucet flowing through your drain pump will suck the water out of your bed. This will take one or two hours depending on water pressure. Do not allow air to get in the hose. E. If you have a motion reduced mattress you must show special care while draining and moving your bed to prevent the interior baffles from shifting. HOLD THE BAFFLES IN PLACE IN THE MATTRESS AND LIFT UP ONE END. This will allow the remaining water to flow toward the valve. F. FOLD YOUR MATTRESS CAREFULLY. DO NOT LET THE BAFFLES SHIFT OUT OF PLACE. If any shifting does occur, you should reposition them before refilling your mattress. DRAINING WITHOUT A DRAIN PUMP: 1. Always unplug your waterbed heater before draining or filling your waterbed. 2. Attach your garden hose onto an outside faucet (the hose can go up through an open window.) 3. Turn on your water for fifteen seconds. This pushes the air in the garden hose into your bed so you can create a continuous water siphon. 4. Turn off the water. Disconnect the hose and let it drop to the ground. As long as the end of the hose is lower than your waterbed, gravity will siphon the water completely out. 22 OUR POLICY ON REFUNDS and EXCHANGES: • No refunds on any products. • Exchanges or credits cheerfully given within five (5) business days on purchases returned unused, in new condition, with the original sales slip and, where applicable, in the original carton with all hang tags, warranty cards and instruction books intact. • For the protection of all our customers, we cannot accept returns on items of a personal or intimate nature, special order or custom merchandise, or “final sales items.” • If any item we sell is found to be defective at purchase and is immediately returned, we will replace it with the exact item in new condition.
