We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, PayPal, money orders, and personal checks for all items listed in our catalog. Orders must be over $20. We generally use the U.S. Post Office to
ship parts and have found it to be reliable and inexpensive, and we use their tracking system for each package. Prices in this catalog are subject to change without notice. Please check
availability of all parts and tandems before ordering. All returns must be authorized to receive credit. Please notify us for a return authorization number. Credit will not be issued without
a return authorization.
ALL PARTS ORDERS, ADD FREIGHT CHARGES
We require a 50% deposit on all tandems that are not in stock and must be ordered. Allow 6-8 weeks for most tandems not in stock. All tandems must be paid in full before we ship to
you. We ship all tandems by motor carrier. You, the purchaser, are responsible for freight charges from Tandems East to the final destination. You have the option to prepay freight costs
prior to delivery. This will help minimize the charges. IT IS MORE SIMPLIFIED FOR TRUCKING COMPANIES TO DELIVER TO A BUSINESS ADDRESS RATHER THAN YOUR
RESIDENCE, HOWEVER WE CAN DO IT EITHER WAY. WE GUARANTEE A $225 MAXIMUM COST TO SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE LOWER 48 STATES. All tandems are

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE TO BUY?
WE SPECIALIZE IN THE "HARD TO FIT" TANDEM TEAM
A quick and simple method of measuring the captain and stoker is to stand with your back against the wall with your shoes on; separate your legs about 6 inches;
take a book and place it between your legs tight up to your crotch. Measure from the top of the book to the floor. You now have your stand-over height. Do the same
with your partner. Selection of a tandem is similar to a single bike. Your stand-over should exceed the top tube at your position on the tandem by no more or less
than 1 1/2 inches. Most bikes have an eleven inch bottom bracket height. Subtract 11 inches from your standover and you have the proper size for your team.
Two other helpful measures we like to know are your shoe sizes, plus the distance from the back of your elbow to the front of your fingertip. Bend your arm into the
shape of the letter L; let your partner measure from the very back of the elbow to the front of your longest finger. This helps establish stem lengths.
Any photographs in our catalog or on our website with riders not wearing a helmet are for modeling purposes only.
We suggest you do not ride your bike without a helmet, please.

Bike Friday Tandems
Tandems that Fold. Tandems that pack.
The original Family Tandem was designed by Cofounder Alan Scholz to be a family heirloom bike -- a
sturdy, reliable tandem that can be handed down from generation to generation. The new 2016 frame is
designed as an upgraded lighter and full custom version. The Family Tandem sports adjustability,
allowing it to be set up for two adults or an adult and a child. Kids and other stokers feel at home closer
to the ground, and the small wheels make it easier to handle for the Captain. The Family Tandem can
adjust as a child grows. The beauty of Bike Friday tandems shines in the ride, which is enhanced by 20
inch wheels and easy step over tube. The Family Tandem does not fold, but can be disassembled
easily to fit into two Samsonite Travel Cases for easy airline travel.
The Tandem Two'sDay has a high quality ride for touring a continent or riding a weekend rally with the
convenience of a folding bike to fold for easy storage or quick travel. The Two'sDay folds in two places
to fit into the back of an SUV, trunk of a car or even the back of the Mini Cooper! It eliminates the need
for special racks on your car or a van to be a tandem owner. Great for travel, it fits into two Bike Friday
Travel Cases for airline travel, and the Travel Cases can be converted into a double-decker trailer. The
Two'sDay can be designed as a simple city tandem with wide tires or upgraded to a high performance
touring tandem with thin tires.

The Viewpoint: A unique semi-recumbent tandem. An independent
drivetrain for the stoker and captain allows for different skill levels.
With the stoker’s head significantly lower than the captain’s, both
riders get a great view of the road. It has a small front wheel for tight
turns and the most comfortable stoker position imaginable. We can
modify and customize the stoker position for children, special-needs
riders, hand cranks and more.

Recumbent Tandems
Many people are starting to enjoy the comfort of recumbent
tandems. Rans has produced recumbent bicycles for a
number of years. For the past five years they have seen a
keen interest in their tandem model, The Screamer. This sleek
chromoly bicycle is light and responsive with the steering
above the top tube. Utilizing a 20" wheel in the front and 26" in
the rear, the bike rides very level and smooth. One size fits
many captains and stokers with sliding seats!

Seven tandems feature an eccentric bottom bracket and a lateral tube design, which represents the most efficient use of material. It
maximizes drive-train rigidity and vertical compliance, while keeping the frame as light as possible. Each model is perfectly tailored
for both captain and stoker. All Seven Tandems are custom.
Seven Cycles has a very extensive custom fit system. Seven tandems are generally custom to ensure a perfect fit. Allow 10 to 12
weeks. S&S couplers can be used on all tandems.

da Vinci Designs’ Independent Coasting System (ICS) offers you a riding experience both on and off road that equals or surpasses the best you’ve had on a single or
tandem bike. The ICS makes for a far more intuitive, comfortable and
efficient ride. This newfound ability to independently or collectively
coast, pedal and position your cranks at will offers these advantages:
• Starting, stopping and going through corners are as easy as on a
single bike.
• Captain and stoker can independently relax, take a drink, adjust
seat position, stand for a few seconds to relieve weary sit bones,
even take a moment to gaze at scenery, while the other keeps
pedaling.
• Traversing obstacles is easier and more efficient because the
captain and stoker can coordinate avoiding the obstacles while
maintaining forward momentum.
• Asynchronous pedaling decreases strain on the final drive train.

drive shaft six inches in front of the rear bottom bracket. The intermediate shaft has two single-speed freewheels on the left side that are independently driven by the
cranks at twice the rotating speed and half the torque. On the right side of the shaft, four Hyperglide™ cogs drive the bike. The chain rings are half the size as those
on a conventional tandem because of the double rotation of the intermediate shaft. The combination of 12-, 18-, 24-, 30-tooth driving gears equals 24-, 36-, 48-, 60-tooth
chain rings. The combination of the small 6-tooth gap, doubled rotation and the Hyperglide cogs
gives da Vinci Designs’ tandems these technical advantages:
• Smooth and fast front shifting – The closer the
chain rings are to the same size, the easier it is to
shift. Other tandems, and even single bikes, are
forced to use a 12-tooth gap between chain rings.
• Unprecedented range of gears – Four chain rings
and eight rear sprockets mean 36 gears that range
from 18 to 140 gear-inches. No other tandem gives
you that many gears or that kind of range.
• More ground clearance – Nice when you lift your
tandem over a curb, out of a truck, or when you are
off road.
• Stronger, lighter chain rings that are less prone
to bending
• Less strain on the chain while shifting
• This Tandem is surprisingly agile and light, surprising many who test ride them for the first time.

This is not just a cool bike. It is appropriate for everyday use and for racing. The vibration damping is a performance
advantage on longer rides. Each frame is built to order and every frame is a unique. Tubes are selected for the
weight of the rider. The geometry of the frame can be any of their usual geometries: Pro, Tri or Cross. Custom

Details. The bike is made from Bamboo that has been smoked and heat treated to prevent splitting. Lugs are made
of hemp fiber, for the all-natural look. The chainstays are available in carbon fiber for extra stiffness in the drivetrain.
Finish. The bamboo is coated with a satin polyurethane to seal it up.

crank shortners.
*Complete conversions include bottom bracket shell with clamp, BB plus
sizing shim, axle, crank set, 110 - 135mm arms, 36 tooth chain ring, long
crank bolts, spacer washers and chain.

Questions: "Are your cranks 110x74 or 130x74?" The second question is
"What size is your seat tube?" 1⅛", 1¼", 1⅜"?
How to know if your child needs Crank Shortners
or a Ride2 Child Kiddie Crank conversion?
1) Rule of thumb - if the child is 7 years old they can generally use crank shortners.
An easy method for testing this - lower the seat in the stoker position to the lowest
point, then have your child sit on the saddle with the crank in the down position. If
their foot reaches at least 1/2 of the crank arm in the down position they can use
crank shortners. They can enjoy Ride2 or Tandems East crank shortners until age 11
or 12.
2) Ride2 Kiddie Crank conversion is generally used from age 3½ to 7 years. When
ordering it is important to know what type of crank you presently have on your tandem, the bolt pattern of the chainring (110mm or 130mm are most common). Also
you need to know your seat tube size. Ride2 kiddie crank conversion can do 3
sizes; 1⅛", 1¼" and 1⅜", all hardware is provided and it takes standard metric Allen
wrenches to install. Installation is usually a 45 minute job. If the child is just 3½ they
will need a longer stoker boom, which generally run about $90. An inexpensive way
to avoid the longer stoker extension purchase is to flip over the handlebars. Ride2
Kiddie Cranks come standard with 2 crank lengths, standard 110mm (for the very
young rider) or 135mm for older children.

Dreaming of the Future

W
hen you were a kid did you stare at the sky dreaming into the white
cottony clouds? You know the kind, oversized puffy formations that
allowed your imagination to float into eternity. The skies above my "safe
place" were home to secrets only I held deep within my soul such as what
kind of life would I experience? Where would I live and with whom? How many
kids would I be blessed with? Growing up in a comfortable but modest home
surrounded by a loving family allowed me those freedoms of escaping into
the future.
Our future is here. It is now and in the present. And so many of my visions
and inner whispers have become reality. My parents walked me down the
isle of marriage forty-four years ago asking me if I was sure. At twenty-one
who knew about being sure. What I did know were mysteries of love. They
were true and I was certain all would work out. To me, money didn't matter.
The man I was about to call my husband was full of adventure, promise and
respect for what I stood for back in 1972. Together we would walk through life
jumping through hoops and hurdles of both disappointments and joy.
I never dreamt about riding bicycles. I dreamt about performing classical
piano on large stages in front of massive audiences. I dreamt of a studio filled
with eager minds waiting for my talents to enrich and fulfill their musical and
humanistic souls.
Being fit? That wasn't something that entered my thoughts. But as I traveled
through life with an athlete that soon changed.
My hopes and desires included a wonderful strong husband with a kind
heart. A man who could move the world and make a difference, not just in my
life, but in the world surrounding our lives.
Today, I feel nostalgic realizing that so many of my childhood thoughts have
become reality. Mel, Natalie, Jed, their spouses and wonderful children have
blessed me more than imagined.
My musical career has always been strong and defined me as an individual.
I continue making music with my students and proving that music will always
be an important ingredient in a child's development.
Mel and I may not have the luxury of watching time drift through the sky, but
we continue to dream of new fulfilling experiences.
Tandems East has taken us to wonderful homeland and foreign places and
introduced us to friends who enriched our lives beyond imagination.
Designing women's cycling clothing was not something I thought was in
my reach. With the help of our son Jed, Mel's constant support and David
Sommerville, their combined experience and guidance has made Evelyn Hill
Cycling more than a dream. My designs, performance fabrics and great fit will
continue to grow without boundaries.
Today, the sky is blue, full of formations and holds a wealth of dreams. Mel
likes to say we are living in our fourth quarter. For me, that is the most exciting
time. Today is the future. I plan to seek new goals rich in color and excitement.
