Presidents Report
Before starting my report may I start by saying, “Congratulations and well done” to all
involved at the Club over the past year. Under very trying yet exciting conditions, what a
fantastic year it has been in both the Club’s history and the continued growth of Melville City
Hockey Club in the broader Hockey community. The membership’s commitment and support of
our Club, its teams and players as well as its initiatives must be the envy of many other Clubs
state wide.
What a difference twelve months can make at a Club such as ours. In my 2004 Annual Report I
spoke of the possibility of a Turf surface being ready for the commencement of the year. Little
did I realise the complexity of the task ahead, the pitfalls we would encounter nor the hurdles
that would be put before our Turf Committee in their bold attempt to be the only single Club to
build its own wet synthetic turf facility without the assistance of a school, university or other
hockey Clubs. Rarely have I had the pleasure to work with such a committed group of
volunteers on such a time consuming project over such an extended period of time. To finally
see light at the end of the tunnel and more importantly, artificial turf being laid, has provided a
massive buzz around the Club and a great sense of achievement for both the Turf and Club
Committees. The timeline may have stretched out beyond our expectations, but we did it!
It is only proper therefore that I recognise major contributors to our turf project. It would certainly
not have been possible without the support of our local Councillors John Bennett and Mark
Reynolds as well as Mayor and Club Patron Katherine Jackson. Council Officers provided
ongoing support and advice throughout the project and ensured processes were followed.
Without funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation and Melville City Council, as well
as loans supplied by Hockey WA and Treasury, our Turf could never have been completed.
Donations from the Club’s membership base as well as from companies involved in the project,
Densford, Jenkins Clifford Electrical Engineers and Western Irrigation through funding and
voluntary professional services have ensured the project progressed positively.
Finally our outstanding Turf Committee ably chaired by David Timmel did an outstanding job
over an extended period. The remaining members were engineer David Porter, Architect Tom
Rushton, Financial Controller Colin Cooper, Business Planner Greg Riley, super worker Anne
Hall and finally club president Hans Geers. I feel a special thank you must also go to John
Pickering for his ‘on call’ legal advice at all hours of the day or night. The words ‘thank you’
seems so insignificant for such a magnificent achievement.
Thanks to Melville City Council a new patio has been constructed complete with lighting and
paving. Finally our Club has the ideal out door area we had long wished for and which will
benefit all levels of our membership.
Another success this year has been the Club’s growth on the field in fielding some thirty eight
turf and field teams as well as over two hundred Minkey and Graduate players. All up we now
have a membership in the vicinity of 650 players, making us one of the top four Clubs in size in
the state.
This year the Club gained state representation with Jordan Hunt gaining a position in the State
Under 15 side and Goundrey Cup player, Dan White captaining the gold medal winning State
Under 18 team to success.

Presidents Report
On the Indoor scene, David Orr was selected as Captain for the U18 State Indoor Team which
toured Canberra in January. Craig Orr and Dan Scott represented WA in the U21 Mens Indoor
Gold Medal team in December 2004. George & Graham Watts were in the 2004 Gold Medal
Senior Mens Indoor team and were also selected in the Australian Indoor team last December.
It would also be remiss of me not to congratulate our veteran’s players who have also been
selected in various state and National teams.
We are also fortunate to have members who officiate at all levels of the Hockey WA program,
giving up more time than we normally see around the club. To those of you who are Selectors of
State and Regional teams, State Team Managers, Umpires, Technical Officials and State
Hockey Committee members, thankyou for your further commitment to Hockey in WA.
Having retained our position in the Men’s premier competition the Goundrey Cup our Club will
now be in a position to host home games late on Saturday afternoons at our own turf ground
next year. This will provide opportunities for all our players and supporters to witness our top
sides in action at home and give them the support they deserve. It will also allow junior players
to gain first hand knowledge of how the game is played at the highest standard.
I congratulate and thank long term Club Sponsor Steve McEntee on becoming the naming
rights sponsor for the next three years with our turf being known as Steve McEntee’s
DURACRAFT STADIUM. Steve’s ongoing support has been exemplary and it is with a great
deal of excitement that we maintain our fabulous relationship with Steve.
The support of our sponsors has remained at a high level. Their ongoing commitment to our
Club allows us to maintain fees and not impose on families to fundraise. Without our sponsors’
support it would be difficult to maintain a Club the size of ours. These wonderful supporters are
named elsewhere in this book and I ask that you continue to support them during the offseason.
Along with other improvements our Club spirit was further enhanced with the introduction of
Club track tops which look great and further developed Club pride. Our tops are easily
identifiable around the metro area and build on our identity.
In the coming summer months our new turf facility will allow us to run our inaugural summer
competition. This will provide opportunities for members, friends and visitors to trial our new
facility and enjoy our great sport.
Finally may I thank the committee for its ongoing hard work and commitment to improving our
Club and providing me with the support required to ensure we continue to move forward. In
saying that, may I thank all of our members and supporters on a job well done. You are
wonderful group of people, building a fantastic Club that I have an enormous amount of
pleasure representing. You know, I can hardly wait until next year … it has to be a breeze after
this one!
Folks have a brilliant off-season. I look forward to seeing you back at the Club where we can
fully utilise our new facilities to the max.
Kindest Regards,
Hans Geers, President MCHC

Finance & Development Report
2005 has been a highly successful, but challenging year for Melville City Hockey Club Inc. with
a number of factors placing pressure on the Club’s finances.
While the funding of the turf facility is largely independent of the normal operations and
budgeting of MCHC, the project has entailed some outgoings for the Club - on items such as
the new public address system. In addition, the Club’s return to Goundrey Cup and Hockey
WA’s decision expand the number of teams being fixtured on turf have had significant financial
impacts.
The cost to the Club of teams playing and training on turf has been a significant burden this
year and will definitely need to be addressed in our fee structure in 2006. A motion to impose a
levy in 2005 on players playing most of their hockey at turf venues was passed at the 2004
AGM, however the proposed model had a number of administrative difficulties and in the end
the levy was not charged. A harder line will also need to be taken in 2006 with those players
who have been rather tardy in paying their fees!
This year, Jinder Chouhan’s Hockey International joined with Steve McEntee’s Duracraft Panel
and Paint, and the Kardinya Park Shopping Centre as our Major Club Sponsors. On behalf of
members, I would like to thank all our sponsors for their vital financial or in-kind support. Their
important contribution helps to keep fees at a sustainable level and to help fund such things as
equipment purchases or running costs. Members are actively encouraged to support the
businesses of our loyal band of sponsors.
Finally I would like to extend my personal thanks to both Linda King and John Crowe who have
jointly covered Treasurer duties and responsibilities this year. A Club of our size generates a lot
of transactions during the course of a season and this requires skilful management and
considerable patience. Well done.
Our sponsors in 2006 were as follows:

• Steve McEntee’s Duracraft Panel and Paint
• Kardinya Park Shopping Centre

Vice President - Women Report
So I will have to start with that cliché, how quick did this year go. But how quick did it go! I classed this
year as our development year within the women’s teams. With the 3 year plan the Wags had put
together we were aiming to get an extra women’s team into the competition by the end of this year. We
jump ahead of that and was able to get a SL5’s team nominated at the beginning the year. Our goal
then was to keep all 3 State League teams in their grades.
It started out shaky the first half of the season with the 5’s and 6’s. With Gary Bowater and his teams
100% dedication they held in there and were an absolute credit to the club. The 6’s were always a
pleasure to see at training with their enthusiasm to play and learn.
It took half way into the season for the 5’s to realise it was their warm-up that was letting them down, so
what better way than the coach Norm to bring out the stereo and country yee har vibes for the girls to
warm up with a dance move. The girls never looked backed and lifted straight off the bottom of the
ladder finishing strong! I am hoping next year requests will be allowed, as a bit of ABBA can never go
astray.
The SL3’s finished in the top 4 and are heading for another year of finals. This year we are hoping to go
that one step further and make the Grand final. With new recruits to the club the SL3’s had a building
year blooding new young talent into the team. A thank you to Mike Jensen for another season of
coaching the top squad and surviving another year with 13 very quiet women!
Our Metro team is always a pleasure to have they are a wonderful team that just loves their hockey, not
sure about the umpiring though! Next year we are hoping to get the girls back in the top 4 were they are
accustomed to. The girls love taking on new players and teaching them their required skills. Thanks to
Jan and the crew on running another successful year as a team.
How good are our Vets! Both teams yet again find themselves in finals. With Steve McEntee and his
Vets 2 women’s team, they just gel a lovely style of hockey to watch and play. The Vets 1’s just keep
rolling on in their usual quite manner, and make finals a routine. Well done ladies on another excellent
year.
Congratulation to the following players on their selection into State Vets - Maris Margetts, Lindy Coss,
Janese McDougall, Sheri Stokell, Gail Anderson, Nicola Ogden, Vicki Silich and Allison Hall.
With the introduction of a new roll into the women’s club, development coach Dee Plaister has been able
to work with our younger players helping with their skills and understanding of what is required of them.
With this year being a development time amongst the women’s club, Dee has been preparing schedules
to be used over summer to help prepare for the women to have a successful year in the 2006 season.
Thank you for your support and professionalism!
Being involved with the juniors and seeing the talent that is coming through in the next couple of years,
there is really an exciting future for the women’s side of the club and this is where the three year plan the
Wags team created will be implemented. We need
to continue our support for the juniors as senior players, like the SL3 women and junior day that was a
success again this year. We have undoubtedly a group of superstars amongst our mix that will
represent Melville in the women’s Goundrey in the near future.
I would like to finish up, thanking the Wag team, coaches the Melville women players, Jaeger (my dog)
for all your support this year being my first year as Vice – President, it has been a pleasure and I look
forward to the 2006 season with the turf being introduced as who knows what it will bring to this
wonderful group of women players.
Enjoy your summer hockey!

Vice President - Men Report
Well where do I start? This year has been such a big year at our club; the amount of events and goings
on is hard to count out on my 10 fingers.
Firstly a big pat on the back goes to my man Hans and our very hard working committee. It has been a
season of patience and persistence, but the results, I think speak for themselves. The club is in a very
strong position and the future is looking very exciting indeed. Every committee member puts in tireless
amounts of time and energy. This being my first year as vice president, it is amazing to see how much
work goes on behind the scenes to make this great club of ours so successful.
Our other committee is the turf committee, headed by Dave Timmel. This committee has again worked
tirelessly to get our turf up and running and as you can see the results are there to see in full glory at
“Buzza”. The likes of Pat Hall and Dave Porter have put in so much hard work, I’m surprised we haven’t
erected a dumpy for the guys to sleep in, so they can then spend more time making sure everything runs
as smoothly as possible.
Now onto the boys! This season was always going to be a difficult one. The Goundrey boys were faced
with the daunting task of retaining the top grade, the 2B’s faced the challenge of regaining promotion to
state 2 A’s. We introduced a new grade with the state 3A’s and then had to make sure we had enough
in numbers to fill the remaining four metro sides. Of course on top of all of this, our training ground was
cut in half, as the turf was being constructed.
Well as it turns out, I didn’t have to worry and I’m proud to say that we accomplished all of our
challenges. The Goundrey boys retained the grade, the 2B’s regained state 2 A’s , our state 3A’s are on
target for three flags and the majority of the season we had more than enough “cattle” to cover the four
remaining metro grades.
A big congratulations goes to Dingo, Whip and old man Jonno for a fantastic effort with the top squad.
The 2B’s didn’t lose a game in the regular season and the 1’s were solid throughout the year, with some
great wins overs the likes of Freo. Well done to all the guys in the top squad. It will be great to see you
guys around the club more next year playing on the new turf.
As I have previously mentioned, we nominated for a fifth side this season, the state 3A’s. This was done
with much trepidation, but my fears were quickly shelved as the boys went about despatching most of
their opponents “to the fence”, ably led by Ryan Rushton. The boys have been through some difficult
patches with numbers, but they showed great character and just on with the job at hand.
That leaves us with the metro boys. Numbers this year have been fantastic. I knew that a good season
was going to be had when we had nearly forty guys turn up to our first pre-season training. There were
a lot of new faces and a couple of old ones as well. It was a promising start to the 2005 season. I
acquired the services of Mr. John Cooke and Mr. Andrew Scanlon to oversee training on a Thursday
night. However Mr Scanlon’s presence was not felt as much as it should….. Something about a short
leash??? Was it work or going down south??? Cookie however, took over manfully and took training
almost every Thursday night, rain, hail or shine. He brought new meaning to the word, using every
“cone” possible for training exercises. A huge thank you from me Cookie, your coaching has been
fantastic and I personally have learnt a lot from you this season. Also a big thanks to Ryan Rushton for
helping me out this year with all my numerous requests. With training, selections, who buys the first
round after training and the list just goes on. So mate a huge thank you, bring out the skateboard for
next year.
To all the rest of guys a big thank you this year for your patience I know it’s been difficult, but all will be
sweet next season. To the guys that come to training most Thursday, a big thanks, we’ve had some
great laughs. (Carni and the Geers Boys mainly) and we have enjoyed many a refreshing ale after
training as well.
Speaking of ales, another great year from our man behind the bar. Bob the barman, who serves us these
chilly refreshments with a smile and a laugh. He’s always there to the end. You are a champion.
So to everyone a big thanks for an enjoyable season. I am looking forward to next season already, with
the start of a new chapter in our great club. Hope to see you all for season 2006.

Veterans Report
LADIES
A little re-arrangement of past and new players saw us start the season with two teams with lots of
potential.
Some great play during the season saw both teams finish third on their respective ladders. Unfortunately
both teams missed out on progressing beyond the preliminary final. However both teams put in fantastic
efforts and should be commended for their excellent results.
Several club members have achieved state selection, notably:
O35's - Allison Hall (player), Nicola Ogden (manager)
O45's - Sheri Stokell, Lindy Coss (players), Vicki Silich (coach)
O50's - Janese McDougall, Gail Anderson and Maris Margetts (players)
An excellent year all round - we're looking forward to more of the same next year
Lynda Forbes
MEN
This year we fielded 6 teams, an increase of 1 team on last year, – Over 40 Midweek, Over 40 Divisions
2, 3 & 4, Over 50 Division 2 and Over 55 Division 1. With the exception of the Midweek and Over 40
Division 4, all other teams qualified for participation in the finals and I know the Club members wish them
well in the endeavors to win a title. On the matter of titles congratulations to the Over 50 side that this
year won their Challenge Cup game.
The season that just passed saw us start with ample players to fill the teams but with injuries that
numbered to many we struggled in a couple of teams to fill the playing numbers each week. We would
like to thank the Team Managers who week on week toiled to get the numbers necessary to get a team
on the “paddock”, the admin duties associated with running the team and also we thank players who
played 2 games a week to help keep those teams going I know it was appreciated and next year we will
review our nomination policies.
On the matter of injuries in the first game of the Over 50’s saw Club stalwart Roger Bell suffer a stroke
after being accidentally hit in a goal mouth incident. It has been a long climb back from his injuries but
know all veterans in the Club are glad to see him up and around the Club, but anyone who knows Roger
will not be surprised by his tenacity and will to get back into it. Roger may we say get fully fit because we
certainly miss you around the Club.
Good luck to the players who will be attending the Veterans Nation Championships this year being held
in Wollongong, NSW. One of note is Ian Lyon who plays in our Over 55 side and was selected in the
State Over 65 side. If people look at one of the honour boards in the Club Rooms they will note that his
name already appears there in 1984 as a State Veterans rep. Some time has elapsed since his selection,
but it just shows nothing has changed much with “Mouse’s” abilities on the hockey field.
This year will see the advent of a summer vets sevens competition on the Club’s new turf so some of us
will continue to play hockey, but others will have a break to recuperate and allow wounds to heal for next
season.
Thanks again for all the Vets involved in playing this great sport for our Club and if I don’t see you over
the summer, I definitely hope to see you again in the 2006 winter season.

Junior Coordinator Report
Our junior division experienced a dramatic increase in numbers this year, growing from 13 teams last
year to 19 this year. With around 240 Junior players and 200 in our Minkey and Graduates programme
we are in great shape for the future. We expect to have around 23 teams next year, making us the
second largest Junior division in the state. With these numbers we can now cater for players of various
ability levels throughout most year divisions.
Of the 12 teams in the 13’s, 15’s and 17’s, 5
managed to make the finals. There were no finals for
the 7 teams in 11’s as they had 3 grading games to
commence the season and played an extra three
during the scheduled finals for the older groups. This
year was a growth year for some teams due to the
large number of younger and less experienced
players. They may have not succeeded on the
scoreboard but they always performed to the best of
their ability and had fun on and off the field. I am
sure these teams will be more successful next year
especially with the extra experience of summer
competition on Our Turf.
The administration level has not been as fluent as we had wished this year. Roger Bell worked tirelessly
throughout the pre season to compile teams, source coaches, and managers and attend to the
difficulties associated with the rapid growth. Roger’s unfortunate accident, prior to the commencement of
the season saw the appointment of Greg Riley to the top role. Greg was faced with the unenviable task
of coming to grips with the role and preparing the 19 teams for their first games, all in about two weeks.
He somehow managed to complete the task and the season began without a great deal of fuss. Just
when Greg was settling into the role, his wife was appointed to a posting on Christmas Island, which
meant another change of administrator.
Enormous thanks must go out to all the Coaches,
Mangers and Umpires who made this season
enjoyable for all of our players. Without your excellent
efforts our junior division would not survive. I would
also like to thank those players who filled in for teams,
which were short of numbers during the season.
As the growth of our club continues, it becomes
increasingly difficult to fill the roles of coaches,
managers and umpires. Prior to the commencement of
next season we will be conducting coaching and
umpiring training sessions for all interested parties.
Please consider participating in these sessions if you
think you will be able to assist us in filling one of these positions next year.
We will also require year co-ordinators to assist in managing the large numbers of players in all years.
Please contact me if you feel that you may be able to offer some assistance.

Acting Junior Co-ordinator

Major Club Awards - Seniors
There are several major awards in the senior ranks of
the club, which deserve a few words of description
here.
The Catherine Bayens Trophy was presented by
women’s club life member, committee member,
coach and former player Catherine Bayens.
Catherine wanted to encourage female club
members in the administration of the club,
attendance at pre-season training events and the
social life of the club. Catherine was herself a
fantastic example to the women with her commitment
to the club and our sport, and the award is presented
in her memory by the women’s Vice President and
with assistance from the women members of the
committee and senior women’s coaches.
The President’s Award is presented to the club
member who has done the most outstanding job of
promoting the ideals of the club during the current
season. This encompasses not only players, but
coaches, managers, parents and friends of the club
who have given outstanding service to the club and
hockey.
The Maple Leaf Cup was first presented in 1982 by
Kip Hladky - a Canadian on secondment in WA for
employment, playing in the Club’s top teams. The
award is presented by the club committee to the
person who has given outstanding service to the club
for the current season. Consideration is given to the
recipient’s service to the club both on and off the
field, their service to hockey in general and can be
awarded to anyone associated with the club.
The Wiffen Trophy was inaugurated in 1986 by
Terry and Alastair Wiffen, former player and women’s
top side coach respectively. It is presented to the
most improved younger (not necessarily junior)
player who shows great promise and has shown
willingness and enthusiasm to compete at the highest
level.
The Founder’s Shield - surprisingly donated by the
founders of the first men’s side in the club - is
presented to the fairest and best player from the
club’s top men’s side. Awarded by the coach and
members of the management committee.
Major Club Awards - Juniors
The junior side of the club also presents several major awards which deserve further description. It is important to
recognise the efforts and commitment of our younger players as they develop in their skills and abilities and
preserve the future of the club.
The Mount Waverley Hockey Club Trophy was
inaugurated by the Mount Waverley Hockey Club in
Victoria when that club’s juniors visited WA, were
hosted by our club and played against our junior teams.
It is presented to the most promising junior progressing
to senior ranks in the following season, and is awarded
by the junior coaches.
The David Porter Trophy is awarded to the junior
goalie considered to have had an outstanding season
and is presented by long time clubman, Dave Porter.
The Ian Halliday Trophy is presented by Ian Halliday,
another longstanding clubman, to the junior player
scoring the most goals in the current season.
The Life Members’ Trophy - presented by the life
members to the junior player chosen by the junior
coaches as the most deserving recipient from all those
players receiving coaches awards. Coaches awards are
generally given for the player displaying the most
commitment to the team, great personal achievement or
having shown an outstanding quality deemed by the
coach to be deserving of reward.

This season was a tough one. New grade, New faces a new season awaited. It was a slow start
to the season with the player getting to know each other and the position they played. After
those first couple of weeks the boys moulded together to make it a true team. One of the many
factors most of the players from this team will stay in the grade next year and know how tough
this competition is.
I would just like to thank Flur Mason for all her efforts this year. Also like to thank the loyal
supports of the team. I want to see all of you here next year.
Coach Rhys Spedding

James Banford (Left Half/Left Wing)
James is a very talented player. I saw a lot
of good things in his game and some bad
things. But with some more experience in
outdoor and some confidents in his own
ability to carry the ball and pass with
strength and aggresses.
Rory Gibbs (Left/Right Half, Full Back)
Great defender for years to come. A great
hit on the boy “when he wants too” and text
book tackles. Rory had a great season with
all the pressure the defenders had this
season. Rory just has to work on staying
with he man. He will be a valid member of
any 13’s team next year.
Cameron Harries (Right Half)
What can I say? The boys brilliant, text book
tackles great vision and runs himself into the
ground. Another thing with Cameron game
which is great is his second efforts to
retrieve a ball and going hard at 50/50 balls.
Good luck for next year.
Luke Jackaman (Fullback)
The tallest player in the team includes
coach. Him and Jake as fullback had a lot of
work this year. This boy can hit the ball
“When he wants too” and the long reach
helps him make great tackles on the
incoming forwards. A thing that will help
Luke’s is try and watch the senior fullback
and how they work together and read the
play, and work on your hitting over the
summer months.

Top Squad – Men
This year saw Melville City Hockey Club once again compete in the Goundrey Cup competition.
It was going to be a year that required much effort and a year to set new standards.
As a new coach of a new club, I set out my objectives quite clearly. They were in order;
1. To teach and improve the skills and knowledge of the Goundrey Cup squad,
2. Maintain in the Goundrey Cup competition.
3. Expose as many players to Goundrey Cup as possible.
As a squad, we had a huge challenge ahead of me. Firstly, I had to get to know the team, who
they were and what they could and could not do. The team had to get to know me, and my way
of trying to get the best out of them.
We hit the ground running after a llllooonnnggg preseason with a win in the first game of the
season against Southwest Strikers. This was a great way to enforce the team that we deserved
to be in the top competition. The season was a torrid affair, with many highlights and challenges
(in particular, injuries) to overcome.
Did we achieve the goals set out above? We exposed more than 22 players in the first team. At
time of writing, it is now clear that we will be in the Goundrey cup next year. As for goal number
one, we will have to see what happens next year to find out.
2005 was a tremendous success, and I wish to congratulate all those that helped the team to
achieve this.
• Firstly, assistant coach Paul Meacock. As a first time coach at this level, I had much
learning to do. Paul, with your wealth of knowledge and rose coloured glasses, walked
me through every step of the way. A lot of coaches say they couldn’t have done it
without their assistant, and in this case it is true. Well done on getting the 2’s into the
finals.
• JNO-Johnson Orr. A better organised or more enthusiastic manager I have never had.
I’ll put your name forward for the national job. Thanks very much for the phone calls, ice,
emails, humour, and beer. The team could not have operated as smooth without you.
• Mike and all the players-thank you for your support and effort. Remember it is you, the
guys on the field that scores the goals (and keep them out), sweat during the running,
(most of you), and tirelessly wear the maroon with pride.
Congratulations to Hans Geers and his Committee for
a successful year. The turf looks great, and this can
only help to make Melville City Hockey Club stronger
and a force in Western Australian hockey.
Thank you for your faith and support.
Here’s to next year.
Damon Diletti

© Guy Hickey
indoor during the off season to improve his
vision, I look forward to an even better year next
year.
Mike Starling
Captain of the Goundry Cup side for the first
time. Mike lead the team from the front, played a
tough brand of hockey and when fit, always
gave his all. After sustaining a broken thumb by
one less skilled than he, came back slightly
heavier but with the same tenacity. Thank you
Mike for your help off the field, and for
introducing us to your two nationals.
Aiden McDowell
Aidos joined the club this year, his second year
in Perth from Geraldton. Aiden continued to
improve all year to be one of the most consistent
performers. He started off playing 2’s and off the
bench in ones, and ended up being an integral
part of the first team. If he can continue to
improve as he did this year, and put on a bit of
beef, who knows what he might achieve.
Ben Rushton (co-vice)
Played right wing all year. Lived up to his title of
Angry at times, but this was usually to motivate
and get the best out of the rest of the team. Very
consistent with his basics, and always hard
working. Found it tough this year in GC, but I am
sure will learn from this for next year. A good
leader, both on the field and from the sin bin.
Rob McKenzie
After finding himself at CH after the injury to
Mike Starling, Rob fitted straight into this
position, and controlled the play against some
tough opposition. I expect more from him next
year when he is lean, mean, and can play at that
pace for 70 mins. He is a quiet achiever, but one
that I will be leaning on for next year.
Mike Devison (co-vice)
From Fullback to left half and back again. Junior
was one of our most consistent contributors
during the year and played a great marking role
when required. Started off the season with a
winning field goal, but fails to repeat this effort.
Excellent year, who knows what you can do if
fitter and faster next year.
Brett Martyn
Marto is a dogged and determined player. Not
playing a true striker role this year, Brett found
himself playing as a midfield molester. His
fighting spirit forced the opposition to many a
turnover. Unfortunately he went away to Europe
during the latter part of the season, and came
back a bit flat. Good consistent year.
Daniel White (co-vice)
Whitey, porky, pinky. 18 going on 35. His first
year….. out of school, at uni, living out of home,
up from Busselton, of legal drinking age. A big
year for Dan, captaining the WA u/18 to national
champions. Played at FB, LHB, RHB. Blessed
with a temperament to learn and a potent drag
flick. I don’t think we saw the best of Whitey this
year, but I have belief in his ability. There isn’t
much this young man doesn’t want to be good
at.
Matt Read
Matt found himself playing LW or RW. He has a
good turn of pace and can be skilful when given
the space to work with. With improved vision
and a longer pre-season, (cricket gets in the
way), we will see more of the brilliance that
scored one of the best goals this year.
George Watts
I might be biased, but I think that George had an
outstanding year, and probably made the
difference in many games. He was willing to
learn, train hard, even on Friday afternoons, and
get up the rest if they went putting in at training. I
think that he has a good knowledge of the
outdoor game and is not only an indoor
specialist, (which by the way was named in the
national indoor team). I look forward to next
year.
© Guy Hickey
Ben Meacock
The big man at the back. Whippa played at FB,
has a great slap pass and a reach to envy any
defender around. Ben had plenty of work this
year, and was always looking for advice and
ways to improve. Being one of the teen brigade
at the back he continued to improve and was
unlucky not to be named on the WA /21. With
Russell Ford
A Collingwood supporting AIS draftee from
Victoria. Rusty started off the season in the
midfield where his strength on the ball and work
rate led us into many attacks. His good basics
helped lift the quality of trainings and showed us
a level that we can aspire to.
16
Danny Brennan
Originally from Melbourne, DB came to Melville
after George spoke to him at National Indoor
Champs. Dan is a skilful midfielder, able to
control the centre and link well into attack.
Unfortunately we were not able to see the best
of DB, as fitness and injury limited his training
time. Danny certainly made a big contribution to
the team, and will hopefully be a part of MCHC
in the future.
Anthony Riccadone
Another of the youth brigade, Ricca found
himself playing midfield and striker. From his
own admission found the pace of Goundry Cup
more than he was used to, but at times played
like a seasoned campaigner. Anthony showed
glimpses if his silky potential and things are
certainly on the up. Here’s to a big year in 06.
John McKnight
This wee lad from Scotland had an interesting
time here in Perth for his three month tour down
under. Hooksie obtained his nickname after a
late night visit to a bar in Northbridge. He
showed flair and skill on the ball, but I don’t think
we saw the best of this young man. John
certainly added some colour to the social side of
the team.
Luke Doerner
The last of the Victorian trifecta. Luke was our
other AIS draftee. Due to overseas and National
commitments, he was only available for 7
games. He is a solid defender and has one of
the best drag flicks in the game. Luke made his
Kookaburra debut this year on the back of his
flicking and hopes to cement his place in the
national team.!

Men’s State 2B’s
2005 saw this squad commence with the aim of winning promotion to 2A’s. This aim was achieved in
convincing fashion.
The 2B team was undefeated in the twenty games of the rounds and wrapped up the minor premiership,
and promotion to 2A’s with a quarter of the season to go. The team scored over 120 goals and only
conceded nine; an outstanding achievement. This squad had a great mix of experienced players and a
group of young players less than 20 years of age. This proved a successful mix and augers well for the
Club’s future.
The team appreciated remaining part of the top squad and thanks to Damon Diletti, the 2005 club coach,
they trained together at most times with the ones. These players benefited greatly from that. As a squad,
we thank Dingo for his efforts in 2005. His knowledge and passion for the game linked with his current
state/ international experience and strong contacts in elite hockey circles have brought significant
benefits to the club. It is outstanding that Damon will continue his role at Melville in 2006 and his
dedicated work this year laid the foundation for even greater success for the squad next year. The
squad, and club, say thanks to “Dingo” for a job very well done.
Manager extraordinaire, Johnson “Johnno” Orr again made an outstanding contribution in time, effort
and support for this squad. From organising uniforms every week for both teams, to being at every
training session, to being manager for two games a weekend, to booking training times, etc, etc, etc
Johnno did it all and in such a thorough manner. Johnno, you have again been a champion in your
support for this group.
To all the players who played in the twos, you should be very proud of your achievements and
successes this year. You have made it an enjoyable year.
To the many club members who have supported the team’s games this year; we have appreciated you
being there!
We look forward to the challenge of 2A’s next year and to your continued support.
Whip
2005 Coach
James Pickering – “Picko” performed
consistently and solidly this year. He accepted
the challenge to do the basics very well; this he
did through his well timed tackling, steady
passing, improved disposal and greater calling.
He was reliable at fullback in all games and
formed an excellent deep defence with Todd
and Jimmy. Never achieved his main aim of
playing centre forward but scored a number of
goals through his penalty stroke expertise.
Stefan Willett – Captain. Stef’s experience and
leadership were invaluable to this squad as was
his advice to our younger players and his
consistent play in the mid-field. He kept the
midfield structure solid and linked the defence
and attack with his poise and positioning. What
he lacked in pace he made up with clever
reading of the play and timing. Stef was a crucial
member of the squad’s leadership and selection
group and his contribution to the success of both
teams was significant.
James Welten – A great club man, Jimmy
helped coach juniors, was on the bench as
back-up goalkeeper each week for the
Goundrey Cup team and played strongly in
goals for the two’s all year. Jim only let seven
goals through up to the finals with the team
having a goal difference of over 110 goals. This
was an excellent achievement. Jim’s dedication,
positive attitude and team focus was a credit to
him.
Todd Barrett - Vice Captain. This side could
always rely on Todd giving his best out on the
field and the opposition always knew he was
there to play the game in a fiercely competitive
way. Todd led the team from fullback with his
constructive talk, strong play and short corner
work. He organised the defence and turned
away many opposition attacks with his well
timed interceptions and tackling. Toddy’s
support and encouragement of the young guys
in the team was outstanding.
Dan Scott – Scotty stepped up in the second
half of the year with stronger attitude and greater
consistency in performance. This led him to be
more dominate in this grade resulting in a

positions in the midfield linked with his improved
disposal and stick skills saw him move to a
higher level in his game this year. Dirty’s play
this year showed that with consistent time on the
field and continued dedication he will create
opportunities for himself to impact on Goundrey
Cup grade for years to come.
number of opportunities in the ones. His drag
flicking was consistently strong this year with
very few opposing teams keeping him scoreless.
Having played most of the year at left half,
Scotty’s took his improved form into other
positions on the field with success.
Brendan Joss – “Bear” stated the year in the
first team until a serious hand injury saw him
miss almost half the season. He returned to the
two’s mid second round and the side benefited
from his experience and determined attitude.
Bear was solid as usual in defence and took the
licence to move further into attack and pressure
the opposition through the overlap. Great to see
the “physio” return to good form.
Bruce Hancock – “Hank”, too, suffered a
serious hand injury to miss about ten games for
the year. He returned late in round two with his
usual fighting spirit and “give everything” attitude
on the field. Our style in this grade allowed our
flank halves to go high into attack when
possible, and Hank needed no second invitation
to do that. His stick skills allowed him to drive
forward and set up many attacking moves from
half back. His calling and support of the young
guys was crucial to the team.
© Guy Hickey
John Rutgers – John Boy had a slow start to
the season due to recovery from surgery. He
paced himself early in the season and gradually
built his confidence and impact on the field. John
Boy proved his versatility throughout the season
by playing across the forward and half lines and
would often play effectively in two or three
positions in any one game. John Boy played a
number of games in the ones this year and has
the skills and ability to make that step more
often if he applies himself to that goal.
Dan McEntee – Macca’s great pre-season form
saw him start in the top side for the first quarter
of the season. His efforts in the off season
showed the level that Macca can achieve if he
dedicates himself fully. In mid round one he
moved back to the twos and had early success
there. After a lengthy “break” in round two he
came back with good form leading into the
finals. Macca’s pace again worried opposition
sides. He set up numerous attacking moves
when he effectively used his pace and early ball
movement to eliminate defenders.
© Guy Hickey
Aiden McDowell – “Aidos” was one of the
biggest improvers in the squad this year. He
dominated most games in the first round as well
as playing increasingly strongly off the bench in
ones. Early in round two his form earnt him a
spot in the Goundrey Cup team and he held that
position for the remainder of the year. Aidos
developed significantly greater strength on the
ball and improved disposal under pressure to
become a regular in the top side. A great year
form Aidos! Great to have him in Melville
colours.
John Pescod – “JP” moved to Melville in the off
season and worked hard to make an effective
transition from juniors to seniors. His hard work
saw him selected in this grade to start the
season. The first round laid the foundation to
him adapting to this level of hockey and his
improvement in his leading and positioning
started to pay off. JP’s development in these
areas meant he played some very strong games
in the second round and saw him score many
goals. His determination and tenacity in the
circle meant he always gave a strong contest in
the circle saw him turn half chances into goals.
David Orr – Dirty hit top form late in round one.
This led him to a starting position in the ones
only to be hit with another knee problem. He
returned to the twos in the second round until
the injury saw his season end before the finals.
Dirty’s flexibility in playing effectively in various
19
Evan Kelly – Ev’s silky skills can turn a game
and completely leave the opposition defence
stranded. When mixed with early passing and
his ability to bring others into the game Ev was a
dominant player in this grade. Sometimes his
laconic, Mark Waugh-type demeanour would
give the impression that he could always step up
a level, but throughout the season he helped
control our midfield and dominate opposition
sides. He has shown his skills in a number of
positions in the field this year and he performed
well in all of them. His ability and form saw him
often selected in the ones and he showed
glimpses of just how far he could go with his
hockey
Stephen Gibson – Great to have “Gibbo” back
with Melville this year. Gibbo’s commitment and
application early in the season saw him turn his
raw talent and potential into good form on the
field. At wing he consistently held his position
well and with his great pace and improved skills
he proved a danger to all opposition sides.
Gibbo’s development saw him selected for his
Goundrey Cup debut in the second round and
proved the level he can aspire to, and achieve,
in the future
Josh Brown – Last year’s fairest and best in the
twos, a fit and in-form Josh again proved his
ability in this grade. When fit, Josh’s skills stood
out and enabled him to effectively eliminate
opposition players and bring others in to the
play. His poise and ball control helped him
impact on games in the mid field and his
experience and leadership were important to the
team. Unfortunately, constant injuries and time
away in the second round meant that Josh
finished the season as a key player in the
threes; however his contribution to this team
was greatly valued.
Anthony Ricciardone – “Ricca” set his sights
on making an impact in Goundrey Cup this year
and realising the potential that we all knew he
had. In nearly every round Ricca played in both
1’s and 2’s. He improved his ability to run games
out this year and his improved fitness was one
of the factors that led to Ricca’s greater
consistency of performance. He not only
displayed his skills at a high level but used them
more effectively in our midfield to split the
opposition defence. He looked more determined
and focused in each game and proved a
dominant and key player for us in this grade. Not
afraid to try a “tomma”, he scored a couple of
blinders, none better than his one to beat YM in
the ones.
Craig Orr, Nathan Rowden, John McKnight and
Finn Bell all played games with the team and all
made important contributions to the team’s
success. Two young juniors in Stewart Taylor
and Jordan Hunt showed their great potential in
their games with this team.
© Guy Hickey
Mark Watton – Despite his grey hair, “Watto”
dedicated himself to this season with renewed
vigour. He again proved himself to be a fantastic
team man who could play in all three lines, often
in the same game. Wherever he was put, Watto
would give his all for the team and would fiercely
aim to win every contest. This attitude saw him
selected for his Goundrey Cup debut and he
carried that into the ones for a number of
games. Watto helped set the positive tone and
spirit for this team all year and had a great
influence on the young guys in the team.

Top Squad - Women
Sue Clark
As Captain of our team, Sue is an
inspiration to us all, not only as a player but
as a club person. Her strength and
endurance on the field are awe-inspiring.
Every game you can make a safe bet Sue
will be the player who will lift us into a
position of attack and put pressure time and
time again on the opposition. We have
never seen Sue give up, even when some of
the worst decisions are called against her.
Her composure and determination keep us
all on track. Our team would not be a team
without her leadership. She’s fabulous!
© Guy Hickey
Gaye Glaskin (Gayesy)
Heave Ho way to go…… Our consistently,
courageous, calming, caring utility player
has had an excellent season, due to her
100% commitment she gives in every game.
When things get tough, Gaysey is always
there to keep heads up with her
professionalism in getting the group to
“refocus, regroup” which can be heard many
times on the field. She’s an excellent
example for junior players to learn from. It is
always a pleasure to have a player of
Gayesy’s calibre in the team. The Dockers
could do with one!
© Guy Hickey
Lee Jarvis
Lee is a very strong Fullback. Her uncanny
ability to save goals on the post has kept us
in the games on numerous occasions. Her
mouth runs away from her on the field
keeping everyone under control – in true
Fullback fashion. Injury has unfortunately
kept Lee out of the game more than she or
the team would have liked. Lee adds depth
and skill to our backline and was ready to
take any opportunity to get on the forward
line to score a goal.
Kate Fennessy
Kate has spent another year mixing it with
the league’s leading goal scorers. Yet again
our team’s leading goal scorer, even with
the short corner hit going off the boil!
Fortunately the stick skills continue to dazzle
team members and opposition alike. But the
most amazing feature to this hockey player
is the enormous bag she brings to the
game! We won’t mention it being too small
to keep the mouth guard in….. Look
forward to seeing the goals put in the back
of the net next season.
Fiona Diprose
Our goalie has had an outstanding year.
The claps of appreciation at her great saves
from not only the supporters but the
opposition as well gives an indication to her
skill in front of goals. We as a team love to
see the occasion when she not only saves
the play but takes a player out as well. Well
done Fi you’re an inspiration to us all. But
next year please book your Paris trip in the
off season, we missed you…………
Paige Tucker
The walk about of the team! She is a skilful
player who uses her speed and ferocity to
score her goals. The most carded player in
the team she doesn’t let anyone including
umpires get in the way of what she wants.
She also has an uncanny ability to play
great hockey even with a hangover!
21
Sally Meacock
A new recruit from Willetton with loooong
legs that reach her armpits!!(every short
girl’s dream!!). Sally has been a great asset
to the team and played in many positions
until she settled into RH where she showed
great skill and determination. A quiet
achiever who has played consistently all
season.
Carolyn Jones
Jonesy successfully overcame the odd
“soccer” moment earlier in the year to firmly
establish herself as a full back star. She
lays tackles that stop attackers dead in their
tracks. Keeping a cool head, Jonesy can
usually be seen pinching the ball from a
surprised opposition and delivering it to
safety, just in the nick of time. Great season
Jonesy.
Sarah McIntyre
Sarah has had a great year graduating from
the U17’s to our top women’s team in one
leap. Here, she has found herself on the
wing, left usually, where she has slammed
in a few timely goals. We’ve heard she has
a tradition of bringing lollies for half time
break, but we’re still waiting….
Sarah Lee
Our centre half of the team and co captain.
You must have had a frustrating time in
some of our games, as every half time you
always would remind us that we didn’t pass
to you or look for you enough. Unfortunately
for you every time you would call for a pass
you would be pounded by the opposition.
Hopefully next year the team will get it
together and put their hearing aids in when
you are calling. Well done on a good steady
season.
© Guy Hickey
Stacey Tweedle
Stacey came across from Willetton Hockey
Club this year and has fitted right into the
Melville swing of things. Stacey started in
the 5’s team but was quickly moved to the
3’s as she proved her talent. She is our
smallest member of the 3’s side, though one
of the most aggressive, often yelling at
umpires and taking out the opposition with
no fear. (Boy, I would hate to see her on the
ballet stage!) She’s always hungry to score
and puts in 110%. Congrats on a great start
to Melville.
© Guy Hickey
Lyndal Malarkey
Lyndal tried to fool us all at the start of the
season by providing some solid support to
the forward line as an ace inner. A
supposed case of shin splints kept her on
the sidelines before her true colours were
revealed when she burst back onto the field
as a deadly and impassable full back. Love
your work anywhere on the field Lyndal!
Kelly Ryan
Kelly plays a very feisty left half with a
strong back stick tackle. She will always
fight to the death. Her strong character and
sharp tongue provide plenty of laughs.
Kelly’s commitment to the club functions is a
credit to her.
22
Men’s State 3A’s
Ryan Rushton – (Left Half) as the so called
manager of the 3A’s Ryan’s main job was to
make sure the card was done for the start of the
game. He often found this hard to have ready
seeing as he left it at home almost all the time.
Many a time he was saved by the Melville girls
playing before us who came to the rescue with a
substitute card. It was great to see that Ryan
had to rely on women to cover for his ineptness
once again.
Rhys Spedding – (Goal keeper, full back and
professional bench warmer) Ahh young Rhys!!!!
What a funny old fellow is Rhys. I am not to sure
were to go with this because I know his parents
will be reading this, but here goes. He gave a
way keeping early in the season to allow other
guys a chance to have a run in goals. I thought
this was very admirable, but the off-shoot of this
was that he had to come and play on the field
with us. From there he continued to receive a
huge amount of ‘constructive criticism’ which
culminated in him scoring the winning goal in the
second round against uni. I cant let it go with out
saying that he did don the pads again in the
Challenge Cup and produced an absolute balltearer of a game, which meant we went on to
win 4-3!
Josh Brown – (Left inner, right inner and center
half) Josh came to us fresh from the hair
dressers were he was doing his best to hold
back the ravages of time. Not one to frequent
the quality grass training tracks of our illustrious
playing fields of Morris Buzzacott, but he often
showed up to see how things were going with
the two people who did turn up to train. On a
serious note I have started a charity to raise
money to get Josh a Bionic Left Leg. It seems
the one he has, has been holding him back for
some while. So if you would like to donate some
money please send it to ‘My leg is giving me
some jip foundation’, PO Box 666 Perth 6000.
James ‘Jimmy’ Welton – (Goal Keeper) Ahh,
another goal keeper. Jimmy played a number of
games with us all of which produced quality
performances. But next year if Jim plays with us
he is going to have to learn some of the other
guys’ names so then I won’t continually hear
“For F#@ks sake Ryan Get back here and man
up!!!”
Joel Brown – (left wing, goal scorer
extraordinaire) If you played with Joel this year I
think you would of figured out that he lives in a
house with just two guys. The only time his
uniform even looked like getting washed was
when he asked his brother, from Bali, if he could
wash it for him. Josh was going to go and wash
it but the uniform got up by itself and went into
hiding! Another part of Joel’s game that others
will know about is the running over heads down
the left wing. Which he himself would run onto!!
Man, many times the over head was attempted
and many, many times it failed, but to Joel’s
credit he always came back with, “It was the
right idea at the time”.
Finlay Bell – (Goal Keeper) ANOTHER
KEEPER, I have said all I want to say about god
damn goal keepers!!!!! So I will talk of his sexual
exploits instead. Sorry this is a very short
profile!!
Just jokes! It
wasn’t a game with Fin for us if he didn’t turn up
looking worse that Joel’s uniform. This bloke
came from Scotland to Australia to do his damn
best to remove all alcoholic beverages from our
sandy shores. And he nearly did it. I think in a
past life he must have been Super man because
he could put on his goalie gear and take it off in
a matter of seconds.
Craig ‘Cactus’ Orr – (Full back) Cactus was
one of those guys that from the start of the
season was not happy with the position he was
playing in. So we did the right thing by him and
left him at left fullback for the entire year. His
only solace was being allowed to come up and
flick short corners. Then that position was taken
when Sticky took a flick and lobbed it into the top
left corner. It should be noted that a ride in
Craig’s car is akin to a mid night stroll through
Metropolis Fremantle. There were more flashing
lights than a bevy of Fire trucks at a burning
porn warehouse.
Steve Beatty (2 t’s not 1!) – (Center forward)
Just picture this, Its two minutes before the start
of the game and we are trying to decide who to
play at center forward until Beats gets here. You
turn around and there he is as casual as you like
slowly strolling in to the ground. We all know its
ok because at the moment he is doing his warm
up. On the odd occasion that he was early it was
to all our detriment because of the late night
curries he enjoys ‘sharing’ with us. Next year I
am petitioning Hockey WA to have a system
similar to A.F.L. with goals and points. If this
gets through I can guarantee that Beats will win
the top scorer on points alone.
23
Micheal ‘Sticky’ Ashley – (Full back) Stickys
enthusiasm for the game was only was only
matched by his need to be involved with the
short corner battery. If the question was asked
before the game of what we were doing for
offensive shorts you would always hear sticky
yell out ‘I’ll hit!’. Our loss for a number of games
this season was the engineering worlds gain,
with sticky being called away to assist in holding
up a wall deep in the middle of no where, which
no one really cares about. Sounds like the
perfect position for sticky.
Stuart Hennessy got two goals in the challenge
cup!!! Stuey was one of those guys who turned
up to the game wearing his team shirt and his
mouth guard in, to bad it wasn’t under 11’s, or in
my dads case over 50’s, because then you
would of fitted right in Stuey.
Peter Campbell (Right inner, Right wing) One
simple word for Pete, unobtrusive! Peter would
quietly turn up to the game in the middle of
winter wearing nothing but board shorts and a
Shearer’s singlet. Pete was one of the unlucky
guys who was automatically placed into a
different position when someone was away.
Pete had to be able to play left and right inner,
right half and also left and right wing. But you
often didn’t even know he was playing in those
positions because he was so unobtrusive.
Wayne “King” Anderson - (Center half and
Right inside) The season started for us missing
an integral part of our team. No Center Half.
Then I receive a call from Jonno telling me that
Wayne wants to come back and play again. But
Jonno said that Wayne had stipulated that he
didn’t want to train, only wanted to be at the
game 30 minutes before it started and he
wanted to play for fun. I thought about it for 2
seconds and said to Jonno he would fit perfectly
into our team. It was all good until I was
confronted by the full male nudity on the way to
the shower after the first game he played with
us. And let me tell you this, if Ron Jeremy is
known as the Hedge hog then Wayne should be
known as the Grizzly Bear! Grrrrr, my god is that
real!!!!!!
Chris Morrison – (Left wing) Young Chris
started the season as one of the guys who was
potentially playing a large number of games with
us whilst playing under 17’s. He ended up
playing almost every single game in a large
number of positions. When you are young
everything is new to you and I am sure the sight
of Wayne ‘Grizzly’ Anderson and any number of
older guys stripping off and walking nude in front
of him to the showers did more than open his
eyes!!!
Regan McClure – (Still not sure were to have
Regan playing) Bringing Regan into the team at
the end of the season was a master stroke on
my part. Having his fitness peaking one week
out from the finals was brilliant. But having his
teeth knocked out two weeks before the finals
had nothing to do with me. Regan brought a
whole new understanding to training with any
lifted ball being a potential on drive through the
covers.
Grant Watton (Right half come right wing come
center forward come any position were he can
try and get a goal) Grant lives by one word and
by one word alone – OVERLAP!!! What an
athlete. Grant always had this uncanny ability to
continue to read the play and move into a
position to get a goal even when we were
defending on OUR base line. To his credit
though he is a stalwart of our side doing his best
to assist our team to as many wins as possible.
Through out the year we were short a full
Nathan Elliott – (Left wing not involved with
defense) Nathan ‘The fridge’ Elliott was often
seen by us as a secret weapon. One look at him
by opposing teams as he walked out to play
wing saw them thinking “this blokes not running
past me”. Maybe they should of remembered
their physics from high school because once you
tip a fridge down the hill you had better get the
hell out of the way of it, or you going to get the
crap smashed out of you!
Stuart Hennessy – (left inner) What was
Willetton loss is Melville’s gain! Well that’s what
was meant to happen but little did we know we
would have to carry Stuey for the best part of the
season. Ha ha just jokes. Stuey couldn’t find the
net in his attempts to score a goal in the first half
of the season but boy did he decide to play on
the challenge cup. You said you wanted
recognition for you two goals Stuey so here it is.
Blokes assisting – Andy Criddle, Ben McAuther, Daniel Pickering, Nathan Rowden, Mark Lyons,
John Cooke, John ‘JP’ Pescod, Bruce Hancock, Dave Beatty, Adam Halliday, Chris Geers, Dan McIntee,
Simon ‘Carny’ Carnivale. In all seriousness this season was virgin territory not only for us but for Hockey
WA as well. We started the season not sure of were our players would come from week to week and
how we were going to play as a team. We initially thought it would be excellent to make the finals but to
win the challenge cup and (at the writing of this) potentially win the Guth Ardargh and the Premiership
was astonishing. All my thanks go to everyone who attempted to help us out through the season but my
biggest thanks go to the blokes who made playing hockey week to week such a joy, all you guys in the
state 3A’s! Good on ya fellas!!

Women’s State League 5
Kathryn Abbott
Is a rock solid defender, great tackles, and big
hit and very calm in defense. One of our
strongest backs, unfortunately got injured half
way through the season and was missed in
defense.
Deborah Miller
Found her niche in the forwards, worked hard in
attack and found herself in the right place to slot
a few goals away.
Caitlyn Ogden
Has just improved game by game, no grace and
airs, she just gets the job done. Has a big future
and will go a long way. Love to see her slide and
rush the ball will scare the you know want out of
a few forwards in years to come, keep up the
training.
Allison Hall
One of the more consistent players, just got
better and better all year. A workaholic on and
off the field, still has a lot to offer as Aly will keep
on improving. Made the state vets and will do
well at that level as well.
Caitlin Oosterbaan
Our prancing pony and another one of our
young guns. She slotted into right half and
made the most of it steady in defense and
helpful in attack..
Erin Hall
One of our young guns has a bright future in
hockey just needs to go for it. Great utility player
can play in attack as well as defence.
Lauren Ferguson
We lent Lauren to the 6s, then they would not
give her back as she was the centre pin in their
play so we used her as our number 1 bench
player. She also has a great future as she is a
very versatile player.
Yvette Rutherfoord
Another one of our young guns. She has a lot of
potential and will be pushing for a top spot next
year and will do us all proud.
Renee Stirling
One of the big improvers especially in the latter
half of the year when she stepped up to pull the
defense together. Our quiet achiever who just
keeps working.
Melanie Leighton(Johnson)
Played well when she was with us, missed a few
games due to her world tour with her new
husband. It was good to have her back as she
added a lot to the midfield.
Maris Margetts
One of our stronger players, never gives up,
plays it cool and calm under pressure. Hope that
the younger players watch the skills she has
(just don’t talk to umpires like she does)
© Guy Hickey
Andrea Smith
Has a lot of experience to bring to the team. She
was a big help in attack giving us a bit more
sting up front and another hard worker.
Nicola Ogden
Great benchie. First one to fill in the team card
when on the field and had some good games for
us. Would play wherever asked to play.

Women’s State League 6
The season that was:
We started pre-season training with a huge team, only to have it whittled away by the poaching
tactics of the higher grades – no offence, guys! We started with a relatively inexperienced group
and followed a very steep learning curve as people leapt from wondering which end of the stick to
hold, to carrying out some fairly complex set plays and team strategies. It has been a huge year
of growth and development for all players, and it has been fantastic to see how much stronger
everyone has become. As a team, we have the best heart and team spirit that I’ve seen in a long
time. Everyone has put in 100% effort and determination this year and we’re looking forward to
taking the same team next year onto bigger and better things. With the team playing together in
the off-season social comps, we should have greater success next year. Now we’ve got this
game sussed, let’s give it a burn!
Coach:
Gary Bowater
Manager:
Kate Hennessey
The Players:
cool head on the forward line, Bree has good
attacking drive and a wealth of experience that
she used to our advantage. We missed her
towards the end of the season when illness carted
her off for a few weeks, but we’re hoping for more
of Bree’s talents to showcase next year.
Kathryn Atkinson
Kat’s an experienced player with a great hockey
mind, who knows how to read the play and is a
great asset to any team. Switching between the
forward and half line, Kat has used her vision and
experience to set up many great plays and direct
the traffic. With a little more fitness and some
more control of that massive hit of hers, she’d be
unstoppable.
Kate Hennessey
Kate has gone from strength to strength this year.
She has learnt how to run and is keen to show off
her skills in this area at every opportunity,
including being first runner in defensive short
corners. She has developed great strength over
the ball and her hits have been excellent. We
missed her for a couple of games when she took
a much deserved holiday, and struggled to fill her
position as right half. Kate also took on the role of
manager during the season, and kept us informed
on all club news as well as taking a leading role
on the field as a player. Well done Kate!
Lauren Ferguson
We stole Lauren from the SL5’s, much to our
advantage. She is a tireless workhorse, with
great skills and provided much needed balance
through the centre for our “young” team, as well
as benching for the SL5 team. Season highlight
for me was seeing Lauren score her first goal for
us – I think no one was more surprised than
Lauren herself! Lauren has great potential and
fantastic skills – she has a great hockey career
Alene Ivey
Goal keeper extraordinaire, Alene has taken a
hammering this year. With a new team getting
used to team strategies, there’s been a lot of
pressure on our goalie, and Alene has met every
challenge head-on. Her calling from behind has
directed many a defender into the path of the ball
and kept us out of trouble. Her experience in
reading the play has been much appreciated, and
we’re looking forward to more of the same next
year.
Fiona Jones
A dedicated defender who always puts her body
on the line in the name of hockey – and has the
injuries to prove it! We decided it wasn’t a proper
game unless Fi got injured – and we had many
proper games this year! Aside from her amazing
attraction for the ball and opposition sticks, she
always fights hard for the ball and has been the
© Guy Hickey
ahead of her.
Bree Harmsen (nee Woollams)
Bree is counted as one of ours, although she
hopped between us and the SL5 team. Another
26
nightmare of many an opposition striker.
Excellent skills, great reading of the play, Fi’s last
stand as full back has stopped many a goal and
her magnificent hit has cleared the ball out of
trouble many times.
right half while Kate was away, but she still
managed to get the odd burst out. Generally
strong over the ball and solid in defence, Nic is
happiest being out on the field and stopping the
opposition. Has been known to use her feet in
defence, but the umpires are often blind and miss
it….
Conor Keating
Associated with the Welten clan, Conor has
hockey in her blood and although new to the
game as a player, has shown us that she’s got it.
Hampered a bit by injury, Conor has worked hard
on the field and has learnt many skills. A great
runner and very fit, Conor has hassled opposition
players all over the field. A bit more time to
develop some more stick skills and Conor will be
a strong player, not to be taken lightly. Also took
on the role of being Social Co-ordinator for the
team – and has done a great job there too!
Robyn Pease
Returning to the club after moving out of the area,
Robyn has been a great asset to the forward line.
Playing mostly as centre, wandering across to
inner and wing as needed, Robyn has amazing
drive and consistently fights hard for the ball.
Great fitness, Rob can run tirelessly throughout
the game, then still wants to do more! She has
excellent skills and has been a great example to
the newer players, especially those in the forward
line. We’re hoping for the same again next year!
Mel Lowe
A new player to the club this year, Mel has
worked hard to learn this strange game we play.
She has picked up the game plans and has been
great at getting into the right position as winger. A
few more skills under her belt and Mel will make a
great seagull on the post. Despite sporting the
most amazing bruise I’ve seen in a long time, Mel
always has a smile and has been a very positive
team member. A good starting year – let’s hope
for more next season!
Donelle Smith
Another one returning to the club, Donelle has
settled into the game like she never left. Still
improving her fitness weekly, Donelle is
uncovering her skills more and more. Has a great
ability to read the play, leads well and has a great
hit when unleashed. A cool head on the forward
line, Donelle has contributed a lot to the attacking
drive. Some great stuff from Donelle this season
– with more to come next year!
Kim Welten
Kim has been thrown in the deep end this year
and risen to great heights! Played as a utility,
Kim’s versatility has been used to the team’s
advantage. In the forward line, as half back and
full back, Kim goes where her skills are needed.
Kim has a fantastic hockey brain – wonderful
ability to read the play and a cool head to direct
the traffic. Her skills have improved out of sight
this year and her fitness is getting better each
week. A fantastic year for our Vice Captain –
looking for even better things next season.
© Guy Hickey
Elle Woollams
Elle picked up the stick for the first time this year
and has shown great courage and determination
to succeed. With the heart of a lion, Elle doesn’t
give up. Her skills have grown each week and
she tries her hardest at all times. She’s
developing a great instinct for being in the right
position and with a little more strength, will be a
great little goal sneak. Keep up the great work!
Jacquie Osborne
Possibly the find of the season, Jacquie joined us
fresh from the eastern states and ready to learn
how we do things here in the west. She has
thrown herself into the game and become a great
player. Fit as a fiddle, she has run rings around
the opposition as inner and developed some great
skills. A natural attacker, Jacquie has been a
fantastic asset to the forward line and her “never
stop” attitude has won us many advantages on
the field. A great season for Jacquie – well done!
Invited guests:
A number of players made special guest
appearances during the season, on more than a
couple of occasions. Thank you for your skills
and experience – much appreciated!
Nicola Ogden
A quiet, shy retiring little flower – not! Captain
Nic’s voice can be heard several fields away as
she booms out advice from the backline. Gary
shut her up for a few weeks by making her run in
27
Lisa Anderson
One of the crew we invited over from the Vets
competition, Lisa has the ability to run hard all
game and has provided some much needed drive
in the forward line. Played mostly as inner, Lisa
linked well with our players and helped set up
some great attacking play. Scored one of the few
goals our team managed this year.
Lee Maxfield
Cool head and great skills, Lee brought strength
and balance into our deep defense. Her
experience in reading the play and directing
players from the defensive line has been a great
help. Lee has great vision for the play (must help
wearing glasses!) and has been a great mentor
for many of the players in the team.
Mhairi Angus
Another Vet who throws herself into the game –
literally! Not afraid to put her body on the line,
Mhairi provided great strength in the forward line.
Set up some great attacking plays and worked
like a Trojan as centre forward.
Caitlyn Ogden
Our starting keeper, poached by the SL5’s,
Caitlyn had developed immensely as a keeper
this year. She has added sliding to her repertoire
this year and is getting quite keen to try it out on
the opposition. At only 15 and in her 4th season in
U17’s, Caitlyn is showing improved strength and
dedication.
Marie Intini
Mini Marie is a tenacious terrier on the field. A
player with amazing skills, great drive, and a
massive hockey mind (in such a petite package!).
Another one to score for us, Marie has been a
vast asset to the team on the occasions she has
been able to play for us. Can tackle any position
– an amazingly versatile player – who gave up
weekend hockey for tennis and golf this year. We
hope she comes back full time next year!
Theresa Rayfield
Played a few games as inner or wing, and
worked really hard in attack. Good legs to run
and has the skills to be strong over the ball.
Ran some great leads up the wing and sent the
ball hard into the “D” on many occasions.
Excellent drive – a strong player with a good
instinct for the ball.
Yvette Rutherfoord
Another poached by the SL5’s and even getting a
run in 3’s, Yvette has some great hockey skills
and a good hockey brain. Still in Under 17’s,
Yvette has great potential for a long and exciting
hockey career.
And who could forget the coach:
Gary Bowater.
Gary has done a wonderful job with the team this
year. His focus has been on developing skills,
building a good team structure and teaching the
team on-field strategies and when to use them.
As the team has grown in strength, his shouted
instructions from the sidelines have diminished,
but his commitment and dedication have never
wavered. He has shown amazing patience and
perseverance as we’ve struggled to absorb his
instructions, and no-one could be prouder of our
achievements than Gary. Thanks for everything
Coach – we’re looking forward to even more
success next year!
.

Special guests who made a brief appearance:
Our thanks also go to Claire Hadley, Lynda Forbes, Andrea Chellew, Jasmain Chow, Nat Adams,
Liz Kenny and Cara Scorer who also made special guest appearances. Many thanks for all your
efforts. Thanks also to Stuart ”Hey, don’t hit my sister!” Hennessey – our star supporter … and the
variable numbers of spectators on the sidelines for your encouragement and perseverance

Metro 1A - Men
Metro 1A: Our season started off with so much promise, two big wins and a three and one start
to the year meant the possibilities were endless…unfortunately one of those possibilities was for
us to play horribly for the rest of the season and finish near the bottom. It wasn’t all doom and
gloom, we did manage to knock off a few of the top teams during the season. Unfortunately
when we came up against the bottom teams, our attack was as effective as shooting pool with a
rope and our defence was easier than a hotel heiress in front of a video camera. Never the less,
most will agree that it was still an enjoyable year. Now, the players…
Lloyd King (Dimples Foreheadicus): Lloyd
only knows one way, put your head down,
tongue out and go at it hard till you’re out of
breath…fortunately for us he extends that
philosophy on to the hockey field as well.
Whether it was a ball, stick or opponent’s
forehead, Lloyd seemed to cop more shots to
the face than Jenna Jameson this season.
Despite this obvious handicap, his hard running
and hard hitting style scored us some valuable
goals and frustrated the hell out of opponents,
much to our amusement.
Mark Lyons (Preparation Minimus): The first
of the token fossils in the team this season,
Clarrie hasn’t lost an inch…despite what his wife
may say. The skills are still silky smooth…the
dummy right, drag left is still as predictable as it
was years ago…he can still turn up two minutes
before the game and dominate…and he still
goes in harder than a Viagra overdose victim. If
the man could take penalty strokes you’d fair
dinkum name a city in France after him. Just a
minute…
John Cooke (I’llgetya Nextgamus): Cookey’s
pace, skills, looks and personality are all rapidly
diminishing with age. The once graceful
playmaker now relies on surgically precise
attacks on his opponents to slow them to his
level, thus making him still appear as the
superstar he used to be. Some say with age
comes wisdom, others say anger and hostility,
others say a reliance on incontinence
devices…but as long as I still have to train
against him I’ll let Cookey decide that one.
Clint Dymond (Tacklis Minimus): Clint’s
upright, one handed, look away and crap
yourself tackle is the stuff that makes
legends…unfortunately those legends tended to
be the opposition players that just skinned him.
However when beaten, he was often prone to
delivering some of the hardest hits this side of a
damp sponge in retaliation, which at least
served to build up the team’s fines money.
Chris Geers (Spittus Dummius): An up and
down season for the whistler. Some games he
would tear opposition teams apart with dazzling
stick skills…other games you would swear his
opponent had leprosy judging by the distance
Chris would keep from him. Never the less, his
shocking hair cuts, love of walking around
topless and ability to make comments that make
Jessica Simpson seem like a astrophysicist had
him leading the fines count all season.
Dave Beatty (Whereyagonna Playus): The
team’s Mr Fixit. Started the year at Fullback,
then went to centre half, then to inside forward,
then to right half, then to centre forward, then to
a tagging role…Dave found himself in more
positions than Tracy Lords this season. But
much like the legendary actress, wherever he
found himself Dave always put in 100% and
knew just what to do with the stick and ball.
Angus Saunders (Noonan Scaredus): Just
when you thought the noonan call was long out
of fashion, Gus’s ability to freeze and panic
when the dreaded word is uttered has singlehandedly brought it back into mainstream use.
Looked more comfortable when moved to the
midfield, but the rumours of him already having
the lead in “Caddyshack 3: Noonan’s Revenge”
continue to firm.
Rohimal Weddikkara (Caucasian Tryhardus):
In a new move for the Metro grades, the team
decided on bringing in the import from Northam
each weekend and sticking him on a wing,
despite him being unable to train with his team
mates. Having amazed us all season with tales
from the “Far City”, his alternate midweek
training methods of dodging rocks and wrestling
children unfortunately only brought occasional
success to the field. The import policy will be
reviewed next season.
29
Matt Geers (Passtheball Pleasus): Matt’s
ability to attract both the ball and an ear-bursting
spray from his brother is unsurpassed. Another
young player that had to be sacrificed to the red
wine drinkers half way through the season, Matt
seemed like such a natural in being able to beat
three or four guys before being overrun that you
could swear he was a member of the LAPD
during a riot.
Dan Pickering (Crappus Authorus): Plagued
by injury, Picko’s season was inconsistent at
best. Some days he was passed easier than a
teaspoon of turbolax, other days he showed the
desperation one would usually find on an
internet dating site. Tried to contribute off the
field this season with a rort of a fines system and
also volunteering to write the end of season
report, knowing full well he’ll be on a beach in
Greece when his team mates get to read what
he has written about them…try and catch me
boys!!
Rhys Spedding (Gappus Paddius): The
younger of our double headed goal keeping
attack,
Rhys
proved
one
thing
this
season…Young people are stupid. Due to his
upbringing in the club from the likes of Keepers
Watts and Welten, Rhys too now believes that
he is as much as a threat on the field as in the
goals. Though after witnessing some of the
goals he let through this season, he may be on
the right track.
Adam Sparkes (Umpireus Abusus): Sparkesy
is getting old. He just is. You can tell when he
takes out the mouthguard and prepares to
deliver a spray to the guys blowing the whistle
that the passion just isn’t there any more. Gone
are the days where a burst of foul language,
personal attacks and death threats to the
umpire’s family would have him banished to
behind the goals. These days it’s just a brief
expression of discontent, mouth guard back in
and play on. It’s a sad day for Melville when
Sparkesy can play a whole season and not get
sent off once.
Cameron Robinson (Often Miskickus): The
second, older, wiser, less hairy of our
goalkeeping duet, Cam was coerced out of
retirement a few games in to the season and we
were glad to have him back. As luck would have
it, that also coincided with the teams huge
midseason slump in form. A coincidence you
ask?? Well I’ll let you be the judge of that. In
Cam’s defence he did call Chris Geers a crab on
the field at a very loud volume which was a
highlight of the season for all those nearby.
Chris Criddle (Criddlis Littlis): Recruited from
the red wine drinkers to stabilise our full back
line, Crids once again went about his business
quietly and efficiently. His remarkable ability to
avoid injury when tackling on the wrong side of
disgruntled, aging former Australian hockey
players, only to injure himself during the week
while brushing his teeth remains as strong as
ever.
Andrew
Scanlon
(Rarely
Coachus):
Occasionally turning up to games and training to
threaten us with his comeback, Scanners
coaching tactics are about as old and dated as
his dress sense. He would turn up, switch a few
players around on the field and then disappear,
not to be seen for four or five weeks. Then out of
the blue he would once again turn up and
demand to run the show. At least his comeback
threats were only threats this season…
Simon Carnivale (Skinnius Woggus): Carnie
stepped up to seniors this year and showed an
ability to talk himself up that is usually reserved
for a member of the Geers Clan. Not shy off the
field or on it, this trait often placed him in
precarious positions on the field where he
seemed to cop more blows than Ron Jeremy.
Managed half a season with us before he was
sacrificed to the evil red wine drinkers.
One Game Wonders (Ringins Qualitius):
Special thanks to Graham Watts, Spud, Ryan
Rushton, Mike Ashley, Cactus (I think), Ben
McArthur and Stu (and anyone else I have
forgotten) for their one off inputs into our
season. Without their influence our season still
would have been crap.
Andrew Mulcahy (Hittus Titanicus): When
Mulcs last played for Melville, MC Hammer and
parachute pants were the word. While Mulcs
swears that is still the case, it was certainly good
to have him join us half way through the season.
Whether it was his rocket like hitting, his quality
hip and shoulders or simply his ability to
question the virtue of opponents’ wives, he
proved to be a valuable addition to the team.

Metro 2A - Men
What a year it has been in hockey for the 2A’s. Another stellar year with only 4 losses and two draws,
which makes it to the finals three years on the trot. We take pride in being a “TEAM” without any standout player; we gelled together and out-play the opposition. Our motivation as with the previous year is
achieved by a state of happiness and doing it for each other. The only disappointment for the year was
the lack of player promotions forthcoming to some players.
Aki (The Dictator) Etelaaho; My way or the highway
this year. Aki worked his aging body hard and gained
some extra fitness, by playing with the mid-week
Vets, must be a sign of things to come. This extra
fitness only allowed Aki to get more injuries. If the
half time talks had some substance the team may
have listened to his geriatric comments. This is his
last year as captain of the team, as work, family and
enjoyment of playing will take over next year.
Bradley (Big Voice) Wake; Goalie; Regained his
place in goals for the 2A’s after Cam was promoted
into the 1A's this year. Started the year with 3 shut
outs, finishing with more than half the games for the
year as shutouts. His efforts a key to our success
saving many game with him pads, thanks. His single
game out of the cage on the field found him unable to
buy a pass and narrowly missing the goals.
Christopher (Quality) Criddle; Christopher is the
best player in the metro grades yet to be promoted
into a state league team. This may be of his own
doing, due to work commitments, but Melville
selectors need to be more on the ball in all grades.
The 2A's will be happy and sad when Chris finally
gets his opportunity to play up the grades. He has
avoided a repeat of the bizarre injuries of last year.
Adrian (Hot-dog) Dusseldorp; Duff gets the
munchies every so often and likes having a hot-dog
before training on Thursday nights. His year on the
field has been solid playing in the mid and forward
lines, scoring the odd goal, due to his elevated
excitement of playing. Testing will be introduced next
year! His highlight for the year was taking-out Cidds
with a deflected ball.
Christopher (CJ) James; Always calm, not stressedout by the umpiring, until he gets his hand around a
players neck or hovering over a player lying on the
ground with his stick at the ready. It's been good to
have some fire in the side with CJ being promoted
this year from the metro 3's, some handy assists and
goals. Quick across the turf, quick to hack and quick
to blow from anywhere.
Andrew (Chopper) Criddle; Due to the promotion of
Beattie, Andy moved back into the Centre half
position this year, playing a key role in both attach
and defence. Andy has scored some excellent short
corners, but not consistently enough to make it a
team weapon and threat to the opposition teams.
Andy was not as devastating on the opposition as in
previous years.
Christopher (The Glove) Tate; Tatie expects too
much from himself and decided to drop back into the
Metro 3's late in the season. His work commitments
affected his ability to make training and some games.
With age on his side, he will have many more years
to show his wares in higher grades at Melville.
Andrew (Kingy) King; the wiser and better looking
brother of Lloyd, was promoted back into the 2A’s
from playing 3’s last year. Kingy is the work horse of
the defence, chasing down and repelling the on
coming forwards, always doing it for the team. Had
fun blowing his $3 whistle while umpiring, the many
squeaks produced had the teams amused.
) Geers; He has not taken the lead
Matthew (
of his older brother, by over using his mouth and to
his credit uses his skills on the ball instead, quite
strange for someone that sells phones. His only
downfall is being muscled off the ball by larger
opponents on the odd occasion and beating players
"3" times. Promoted and relegated in the same year
well done! His fetish is his mobile phone camera
(have your seen the photo of his nurse friend?).
Alexander (Strapper) Ring; The 2A's resident
physio, having strapped-up many of the players this
year, he kept the players from further injury, Thanks!
Alex continued on with his form from last year in
giving at least 100% when on the field. Flying tackles
from the turnbuckles and the doosra are some of the
qualities he brings to the game.
Brad “Chippies the Calendar Man” Potter; picked
up many a sea gull ball this year and assisted on
many more goals. He led the grade and club in goals
scored except in the last few matches. The 2A's were
lucky not to loss him to the 1A's, next year may be
different? Hopefully with the turf and the influx of new
players will help to keep him in the 2A’s. His “Country
Road" appearances and photogenic style was a
highlight of the year.
if you
Simon (The Gnome) Carnevale;
quietly creep up to Simon without startling him you
may see him in his beanie and slippers, looking like a
Garden Gnome. A very handy player, his skills allow
him to take the ball of many an opposition player and
hang on to it until an outlet comes available. When he
puts on some more kilos and strength, he will be an
automatic selection for the 1A's or higher teams.
Shhh, hear comes Simon (A bit soft - like a
marshmallow). A highlight of the year was his
gardening in the attacking "D".
31
Steve (Running Man) Walsh; Walshie was his usual
racehorse this year, but without his usual handful of
goals. Steve's work commitments did not allow him to
make training and some vital matches, which would
have seen the 2A's in the top two at the end of the
season. He is one of the long-term 2A's players that
make the side such a successful "Team".
PLAYERS WHO MOVED BETWEEN 1A’s & 2A’s
Angus Saunders; “SOUTH AUSSIE”. The bogan
from SA, got poached by the 1A’s, a very versatile
player, took some time to get use to playing on grass,
after many years on the artificial type of surface. We
made many attempts at training to make him look an
ordinary player without success.
Ted (Eddie Everyone) Neesham; Half brother of
Eddie Everywhere. Ted should have bought shares in
a tape manufacturing company, for the amount of
tape he used in strapping himself up, before each
game. Ted always put his feelings on the line during
half time breaks on how we should line-up and
perform in the second halves of games, on many
occasions the team just wasn't listening!
Joel Brown; Ex. Busselton Boy. We have been lucky
to have his services for the last three games of the
year, he has scored in two so far with the third yet to
be played. He is very unpredictable and we always
run when he goes for the reverse stick shots at goals.
Lloyd King; the Ladies man, or he thinks so. This
little cocky shit will become a good hockey played
when he knuckles down with some hard work and
learns to read the game better. Thanks for the couple
of goals this year.
Todd (Should Have) Crane; Todd always had his
own views on how the team/players were playing or
could do things better, he let us know every chance
that he had. He ended up playing a lot of games in
the full back line. Toddie has the turf in his sights, he
will see a bit of it as we will be covering the benches
in it! Silence is bliss!
Ted (Story Man) Neesham; Harry half swing, this
winged avenger is known for having been there and
done that (or his cousins have), scored once or twice
and assisted in many others goals this year.
Stephen Criddle; Every team needs an assistant
coach/manager to keep the rabble in it’s place to
whip the beast into action. Thanks for looking after
the interchange this year and the useful position
changes.
Todd Crane; “One Touch”, “one Minute”, “one Goal”
all describe the Todd’s attributes to our team. He is
known for impact and short burst of brilliance.
The Wives; Always a pleasure to have such beauty on the sidelines and to improve the scenery of the below par
looks of the team. Thanks – Mrs Walsh, Potter, Robinson, Etelaaho, etc.
Thanks to the Family and friends that have supported our team this year; The Geers’, Pickering’s, Criddle’s and
players children, we have enjoyed you company, we hope that our on field attempt at playing hockey has been
enjoyed one & all.
PLAYERS WHO HELP MAKE-UP THE TEAM NUMBERS IN TIMES OF NEED
Dylan "Out of the Box" Hadley; one goal, one game - didn't get back in the cage for three weeks after his stint on
the field.
Grant Watton, Matthew King, Mark Tate, Andrew Gove, Cameron Robinson, Dave Pozzari and any others that
I may have forgotten, (all played one, two or three games each), thanks.
OUR FAITHFUL & LOYAL SPECTATORS and FRIENDS
Bob (The Usual Thanks); the 2A's sixteenth player and key too many of our successes, he always ensured that
we kept our fluid levels up and did not dehydrate. Always a shoulder to cry on, quick with some verbal abuse, a
friendly smile and ready with a 'sausage' in his hand. Always dreaming about adventures, his Thursday stories are
a treat!
Stephen Criddle; every team needs an assistant coach/manager to keep the rabble in its place and to remind the
full-back's that we have a half line.
The Wives & families; Always a pleasure to have such beauty on the sidelines to improve the scenery of the below
par looks of the team. Thanks – Mrs. Walsh, Potter, etc. The birthday cakes were a treat.
Thanks to the 1A's, family and friends that have supported our team this year; we hope that our on field attempt at
playing hockey has been enjoyed for one & all.

Veterans Midweek - Men
Our theme for the year was MYTHS. Mythterious I know but we certainly knew what we were on about.
We mythed passes and traps. We mythed goals galore and finally, we mythed the finals.
Greg (ACHILLES) Wilson: Frustrating year, yet
again. Shines brightly until some unknown force
strikes his calf.
John (ZEUS) Crowe: Fiercely and valiantly protected
his domain with such monumental skill that at times
we had to just stand around watch. Crowe was our
beloved leader and organizer, but, mate, it’s time we
confessed -- we can’t read Latin.
Geoff (THOR) Ranford: True to form, Ramma
hammered the opposition anywhere from the shins to
the top of their noggins. Sadly, this led to a severe
identity crises for Ramma as all of these victims
reckoned that they were Thor.
Kevin (JASON) Dempster: At times, this season, we
were all at sea. These times seemed to mirror Kev’s
form. Looking forward to a strong 2006 and finding
these golden fleas that Kev keeps going on about.
Must stay away from Achilles so as to protect his
feet.
Mike (ATHENA) Jensen: Looks like a girl, plays like
a girl, coaches the girls; therefore; he must be …
wondering who wrote this rubbish.
Greg (POSEIDON) Hunt: Egg, fantastic in a straight
line, goes to water when he has to turn. In fact, he’s
a crab.
Dennis (HERCULES) Loffell: Was given only one
“Labour” this season BUT that was to carry 12 other
bludgers on his shoulders. When you get a look at
his shoulders you’ll get an idea of how hard he had to
work.
Keith (Periphetes or CLUB MAN) Harper: Wielded
his club with great effect at the start of the season but
couldn’t hit a barn door towards the end.
Michael (DAEDALUS) Watson: Famed for creating
the famous maze of Minos, his favourite ploy was to
run so many rings around opposition players that
they became confused and disorientated allowing
him to lay off exquisite passes. A word of warning:
do not watch while Apples performs this trick as you’ll
end up as confused and disorientated as the
opposition. Exquisite passes mean nothing when
you’re in this horrible trance.
Rick (LOKI) Sinnott: Owner of a speedy, wicked wit.
Now needs to own legs wit wicked speed.
Andrew (SPARTAN) Criddle: When the going got
tough we called on Crids. Always played best when
hopelessly outnumbered. Knowing this, we always
ensured that we put him in this environment.
Aki (MAUI) Etelaaho: Like the islands in the Pacific,
you could find Aki anywhere. He’s played just about
all positions on the field goalie excepted.
Lewis (EROS) Bint: Spread too much love around
this year. Needs to get much meaner towards the
opposition in 2006.
Damon (HECTOR / PARIS) Joseph: Our best
looking hockey player (sorry, Zeus) capable of
making us look sensational. Need him in our play
more often next year.
Andrew (TROJAN HORSE) Burton: When the
opposition left him alone Andy burnt them. Needs to
tell the carpenters to ease up on the nails so that he
can get out faster.
Ted (BACCHUS) Neesham: Booked this bloke
‘cause we believed that he was the god of wins.
Turned out he’s the god of wine. Top bloke,
especially around celebration or commiseration time.
Richard (LASSITER) Thurtle: Covers a lot of ground.
Sometimes he covers it again and again. When he
strikes gold, though, it’s worth its wait.
Darryl (PLUTO) Dedman: A great loss to the team
when he retired half way through the season.

Veterans 1 - Women
The Melville Ladies Vets 1 team is ten years old this year. We began in 1996 and ten years
later we still have 7 of our original team members, and for the tenth time, we have made it to the
finals. Not bad going when you realise that ladies vets don’t have age divisions. So, if you are
on the wrong side of 50, you can find yourself marking and chasing someone on the right side
of 40.
I have tried to get together some of our game statistics but my only source has been the Hockey
Bulletin, and the women's stats were not always recorded. I did manage to put together some
figures from five of the ten years, and for those years we only lost 11 games. From memory
four of the other years were successful, so I can safely say that for the first 9 years we only lost
approximately 15 or 16 games. It is a shame to add our 2005 results, but sadly we lost 6
games this year, which is a good argument for age divisions (or performance enhancing drugs!!)
It hasn't just been the performance on the field that has made the last ten years memorable.
We have a healthy 'party' attitude and very rarely would any of the team forgo our drink after the
game. In fact, from the very first years, I think we set the trend for drinks and nibbles, and most
of the ladies teams now stay to celebrate or commiserate. Once, we were even asked to 'lock
up' as we left, so we sat in the dark until we were ready to go.
So, here's to one of the best teams I have had the privilege of playing with for all those years. I
would love to say 'here's to the next ten years' but it is now one year at a time.
The team members this year were: [* denotes original players]

Veterans 2 - Women
Marie Intini
It’s been a pleasure playing with someone like Marie, she gives her all in all the games and
never stops trying. Always encouraging others around her and happy to play in any position. A
great team player and member!
Mhairi Angus
New to the team this year, she has legs that don’t stop! You often hear her calling for the ball
and then she’s off, always chasing those balls. A great year for Mhairi and an asset for our
team.
Kim Gotch-Martin
Kim has made an outstanding contribution to our team this year. There has been no sign of
injuries which dogged her in the previous season. She has relished the centre-half position,
providing the team with a solid defence and creative forward moves. Throughout the season,
Kim ran very well, put on strong tackles, often going in for second and third tackles and never
giving up. We are proud of her and congratulate her on a very good year.
Lee Maxfield
Ever reliable Lee is one of those amazingly talented defenders who can whollop a ball and send
it flying down the other end of the field (just don't get your head in her way!). She provides the
'last line of defence' for the Vets 2 team and can be relied upon to clear the ball when all before
her have failed. Lee has a wonderful (dry) sense of humour and provides ready quips that can
raise the spirits of her fellow team members particularly during those rather 'wet' games we
experienced this year. Well done Lee on a fantastic season
Theresa Rayfield
Teresa is new to the team this year - in the position of right wing, and is a well liked and
respected member of the team. Teresa is a hard-working team-oriented player, whose
confidence and skills have increased markedly throughout the season. She always makes
herself available on the field, and is willing to do the hard yards - both in attack and defence.
Teresa also has the foresight - of being in the right place at the right time, and has scored some
wonderful and very valuable goals off the right post.
Amanda Lea
Go Girl!!! - If there is a mission to be tackled, then you can rely on a done deal. She has the
ambition and determination to keep the back line strong, Amanda is a very dedicated team
player and has greatly contributed to the success of the team...
Andrea Chellew
Our ever reliable right half back Andrea is our one handed tackling specialist and often leaves
the opposition wondering what happened. With her determination, great eye for the ball and
strong hit Andrea has proved herself to be a valued player. We look forward to another great
season next year.
Lynda Forbes
Manager extraordinaire! She dazzles the opposition with a flash of pink as she flies down the
left wing to swoop in on her seagull goals. Inspite of her goal scoring prowess on the pitch, she
had to win the drinking competition to give herself half a chance of being the family top scorer!!
Better luck next year.
Kelly McCall
Her smiles disguise the aggressiveness she shows to the opposition (and the occasional
umpire) who get in her way. She can always be relied upon to come up trumps with a classy
35
goal or two and it’s just as well she’s the fastest granny on the pitch to avoid balls whacking off
her shin-pad-less legs!
Allison Hall
Always running
Lives for hockey
Line dances with the best of them (where’s the dancing lessons for the vets?).
Is never intimidated (or so it seems).
Strong on the ball with a hit to go with it.
Out first on the corners not giving the striker a chance.
Never gives up and good for it!
Keep up the good work in 2006!
Lisa Anderson
One of our new foreign imports (UK via Willetton) Lisa had settled into the team like a pro.
Being just a wee slip of lass, we had to nail her to the turf on several occasions to prevent her
from being blown away with some of the torrid weather we endured this season. However her
light of foot has given us a great advantage. A great assets, we look forward to many more
seasons
Alene Ivey
Our incredible goalkeeper who has saved many a sure shot on goal, Alene can also be heard
directing the play from her D. Great ability to read the play and send our players into the path of
the ball - if only we'd listen more! Alene has had a very good year, spoiled only by her end of
season disappearance to go on holiday. We missed you in the finals!
Nicola Ogden
Nic has had a bumper year of hockey in 2005. Not content with coaching the U17 girls and
managing the State O40s, she has played State 5s, 6s and Vets 2. Whew! And she still
manages to talk louder and more frequently than anyone else on the field. (This is a great
advantage to a side whose hearing is diminishing with age!)
At fullback, her back sweep across the field in defence is unparalleled and stops the opposition
in its tracks every time. She is also an excellent post player on a short corner and can be relied
upon to stop that pesky shot that gets past the goalie. Not content with staying low in defence,
Nic has an excellent turn of speed and can race up the wing with the best of them, taking the
ball from the D deep into the heart of enemy territory.
Top scorer of the fullbacks this year, we love our Nic and look forward to many more years of
hockey with her
36
O40 Div 2 - Men
This season was a great year for our Men’s over 40’s Division 2 team. After winning last year’s
grand final more than half the team were promoted to over 50’s which left some big gaps to fill.
The team remaining was also promoted to Division 2 and with some new players has been on
a winning streak all year. The team has been a goal scoring machine with an average of 5 – 6
goals per game and a Grand Final berth guaranteed. A fantastic year. Well done guys.
Manager :
Wayne Hudson
this year with a hatrick in the second last round
as well as a cut chin. Well done Robbie.
Dave Timmel
Our goal scoring leader and also chairman of
the club turf committee, Dave continues to put in
a lot of time to see the turf to completion. He has
had a very good year at full back and on the
wing with some very strong tackling letting the
opposition know who is the boss. From the
whole team “a huge effort on a job well done”
Pat Matthews
Another great year for Pat, he scored lots of
goals & also a hatrick in one game. With his
great skill and graceful style he always gets
plenty of touches. Pat’s clever stick work & ball
control makes playing hockey look easy.
John Crowe (Keeper)
A new member to our Saturday afternoon
hockey team, John has played Monday night
VETS 1 comp for a number of years. A very
experienced goalie, John has been a huge
bonus for the team and has conceded very few
goals this year. “Well done” from your team.
Bruce Porter
Bruce played about half the games this year,
mainly on the interchange and a very handy
player with his ‘never say die’ attitude. He
always gives 100%. A great year, from your
team.
Louis Bint
Lewis played about half the season in the back
line making the most of his speed and skill. He
often left the opposition forward scratching their
heads. He has recovered well from injury & is
going into the finals fit & ready to go.
Geoff Ranford (Ramma)
A very big year for Ramma this year played his
600th game for the club. He started as a junior
is now playing in the VETS. Another of our very
skilled players who scored goals this year & set
up many of our play. Well done, from your team.
Lindsay Borthwick
Another consistent year from our gentle giant. A
5 foot midget tried to push him around but with
no luck. He has a long reach and long clearing
hits. A solid team member.
Mark Tate
One of our very vocal members, Mark likes to
tell the umpire right from wrong. He is a hard
working club man involved in coaching juniors.
Amongst his many commitments to the club and
hockey in general he works at the stadium. Well
done from your team mates.
Ron Chesney
Ron played a handful of games this year
suffering with hamstring & calf muscle injuries.
We hope you are ready for the finals.
Rob Thorn
A very solid year playing as our other full back.
With his good eye for the ball and his pace, he
has had a consistent year. He always clears the
ball out of the circle. From your team, well done.
Greg Hunt
Mr Nice Guy of the team with his skill & pace
has played most games this year. He is mainly
on the wing and is a solid member of our team.
Well done.
Des Toomey
Des played only a handful of games with torn
calf muscles. He is a skilled player but
unfortunately his years on the side line resulted
in injuries. A solid pre season 7’s would help
ease back into match fitness.
Rob Knyn
Rob is one of our skilful players and has had a
very good year playing in the forward line and
likes to run with the ball. He has scored goals
37
O40 Div 3 - Men
Another year passes for this exceptional team (the ex- scrubbers), exceptional in that it has
finally been proved that practise does not necessarily lead to perfection. We started the year
donating players to “short” teams and ended up in the finals on spare parts and broken bits.
Good to see all the boys again and hopefully we will be all back next year to concentrate on
lowering the standard of hockey around the place.
full time Dave but OPSM might be worth a
visit first.
Chris Avent
Disintegration is natures’ way of telling you
to slow down. Tutankhamen had a better
chance of playing 70mins of hockey without
injuring himself than Grandpa toward the
end of the year. Fortunately however,
relying on his steam powered watch usually
meant Gramps didn’t have to play 70mins.
Great last stand in the second half of the
first (and last) final Gramps.
Pat Hall
Fantastic club man but the big difference
between Pat and the rest of us is that Pat
really thinks he’s going to get to those long
passes down the wing. Great work on the
club front Pat, but its time you recognised
you’re tarred with the same brush as the
rest of us (the scrubbing brush).
Noel Backhouse
As usual Noel played half a season with his
working away commitments, strangely
though Noel’s hearing continues to
deteriorate at a greater rate than the rest of
his skills (which is quite an amazing
achievement). Noel rarely responds to his
own name anymore the exception being at
the bar after the game when his hearing
suddenly becomes acute.
Mike Jolliffe
With his partner in crime, Mike managed to
get to every game on time without the
special directions from team management.
He was so keen to play Harlies that they
decided to arrive 2 hours before the game
for an intense warm up. This was probably
due to the need for extra boxing practice in
case he had another warm and fuzzy
encounter with his friend Forest Gump.
Terry Brooks
Brooksie – Emergency spare number 27.
Seems to have gone away from the airborne
work and the one handed tackle whilst
horizontal 1m above the ground this year.
Great effort from Brooksie driving down from
Carnarvon for the odd game. Just goes to
show you can’t even move away from this
team.
Stephen Llanwarne
Steve’s form was harder to pick than a
broken nose during the year and the final
game of the season was proof of the
benefits of arriving early to the game. Two
goals in the last game on your birthday,
classic. Unfortunately for the kind of
improvement required Steve is going to
have to invest in a sleeping bag for next
season.
Graeme Coleman
A big come back from a mid season form
slump (over the last 20yrs) saw Graeme in
good form over the last few games.
Unfortunately as the only person wearing a
saddle on the team he was still singled out
for undue attention from the opposition on
many occasions.
Dennis Loffell
Dennis had his work cut out as we were
short staffed midfield, but as usual battled
on regardless. His never say die attitude
and habit of playing 1cm off the grass has
exposed him to quite a few injuries over the
season, so much so his wife was getting
suspicious if he didn’t come home without a
few bruises. On the odd occasion we had to
dig deep and give him a thump after the
game to keep domestic harmony.
Dave Graham
The whole team was glad to see Dave on
his rostered weeks on but of late Dave
seems to have become delusional in that he
believes the team standard of play has
improved. Hope to see you back next year
38
turned up on a regular basis to urge the
team on (or maybe it was just for a laugh).
Hope to see you back next season Billy.
John Maher
Rock solid as always Johnny deserves a big
pat on the back for rolling up from home to
save our bacon in the 8 man clash against
Uni. Always hard to find a nasty word to say
about John (except his choice of friends
leaves much to be desired) it’ll be good to
see him off nappy duty and back to full time
next year.
Norm (Gnome) Morrisson
A very versatile and skilful player who has
finally given up and sunk to the level of the
rest of the team. Normies found a home in
the scrubbers and fits in midfield or
anywhere else like he’s been there forever,
needs to eliminate those touches of
brilliance to consolidate his position.
Al Marshall
Typical year for Al, moments of brilliance
combined with missing the odd ball (or 6) on
the back post. More importantly, Al
continued his efforts to drive costs down
throughout the season and was last seen
being patched up by a veterinarian.
Greg Riley
What would persuade a man pack up and
leave trench warfare at Buzza and go to
Christmas Island? How about almost
anything. Another great clubman, Greg often
provided a spark to the in goal area that
usually was totally extinguished within
seconds but we missed him when he went.
He returned for a cameo appearance in a
mismatch of articles borrowed or stolen from
museums and small children.
John Matthews
John, you’ve got to stop relying on Grandpa
for advice on what time to arrive at the
game! Good year from John saw him make
some gritty back tackles that had the staff in
the emergency room at Murdoch on the
edge of their seat. On other occasions
Johns hearing loss can rival Noels, great
contribution this year John.
Gary Thomas
Clearly Gary left the motorbike at home this
year. Gary got very nervous late in the
second half of the last game of the regular
season when the police turned up to the
ground rumour was they were making
arrests for impersonating a hockey player.
Steve Metcalfe
For a guy with so much experience Steve
hasn’t really relaxed into the vet’s role and
continues to show an alarming amount of
skill, fortunately he doesn’t expect the same
from the rest of us. Has done a fair bit of
work shoring up the midfield and back line
and did a great job in our finals appearance.
Leo Welten
Not much you can say to eleven sweaty
hockey players to keep them out of the
showers after the game but Leo made it
strictly off limits as far as we were
concerned. Leo had a reasonable year and
finally got his eye in late in the season with a
blinding goal against Harlies. Can’t wait til
next year when he gets the hip and the knee
back in.
Bill Morrison
Bill was away having the bolt in his neck
tightened for the larger part of the season
and was sorely missed by the team. Having
said that he showed great team spirit and
39
O40 Div 4 - Men
The season got off to a terrible start. Serious injury to Roger Bell and less serious to Martin
Whitely, Michael Bide and Geoff Riley meant that we were not always able to field a full squad.
Many thanks to the army of players who filled in throughout the season. In spite of the obvious
difficulty every regular player improved significantly as the season progressed.
MICHAEL BIDE
Started off well. Unfortunately injury half way through the season ended his run. Hopefully will
be fit and ready to go for next season.
GARY BOWATER
Gary slotted straight into our injury – depleted team. Great to have someone with Gary’s skill
and leadership abilities.
COLIN COOPER
Colin was the mainstay of our forward line. Scored more goals than anyone else. Playing short
meant that Colin did not always get the scoring opportunities.
ROGER KENT
Another player who improved significantly as the season progressed. Played in a variety of
positions and always gave 100%.
MARK JOHNSON
Initially had some problems with fitness. Unfortunately as he was improving, decided to take his
long service leave and travel to the UK.
TONY PATTON
Solid all season. Had plenty of work to do in defence. Combined well with Kelvin and Peter
across the backline.
GEOFF RILEY
Started well but got injured. Following doctors advice to avoid physical contact he played in
goals! Showed a natural aptitude as a goalkeeper.
JASPAL SEMBI
Played all matches this season. Combined well with Colin up front. Good skills and ability to
score. One of the fittest guys in the team.
PETER SVENSSON
New to the team this year. Unorthodox left hander, but a solid defender. Complimented our
defence and also enjoys the opportunity to play up forward.
TREVOR WELSH
Joined us for the last couple of games. Possesses natural skill and ability. Looking forward to
next season.
MARTIN WHITELY
Played first few games but injury finished his season early. Hoping to return if fit next season.
KELVIN WOODWARD
What can you say about Kelvin except DUCK if he is about to hit the ball. Hardest hit and
longest serving member of the team. Is the heart of our team defence.

Over 50 Division 2 - Men
2005 has been a watershed year for the O50’s. At the end of 2004, we canvassed all the just 50
year old playing in the 40’s comp and most were keen to move up. As the current 50’s team all
qualified to move to 55’s, this seemed like a good move for the Club too.
We started the year in a blaze of glory, finishing the first round on top of the table and taking out
the Challenge Cup. The pace of 50’s hockey suited those with dodgy knees, backs and groin
muscles and we played a very good brand of short hockey. As the year wore on, some bodies
wore out and the second round proved to be a bit more of a struggle. Holidays and injuries
forced us to call on the services of Leo (who we call our own but lent him to the Div 3’s) and
others more often than not and we slipped (just a bit) down the ladder. We will be part of the
September finals action
.
Congratulations to player of the year, Peter Dawkins who polled best player votes in every
game he played, often best on ground. Congratulations also to our striker, Steve McEntee who
scored more than half of the team’s goals and scored in all but 2 games. Steve also filled in on
occasions for other sides and usually scored goals for them too.
Thanks to everyone who filled in on occasions, Tony Patton, Alene Ivey, Bruce Cadd, Tony
Illman, Pat Hall, Gary Bowater and anyone I’ve forgotten.
Hans Geers (Right Half)
The Prez had a great year almost
untroubled by injuries. He was part of the
team’s engine room at right half where most
of our attack started, constantly being fed by
the fullbacks and then feeding the wing and
inners. He even managed to get a couple of
overheads to work (we won’t mention how
many didn’t).
Dave Porter (Captain)
The captain, the tactician, the engineer.
Ports would have to be hockey’s ultimate
utility player. Backline, half-line or forward
line, he was always one of our best players.
Often seen still giving half time instructions
whilst not realising the rest of the team were
back on the field.. Dave also celebrated a
personal milestone of 500 games for the
Club during the season. Well done Dave.
Next season, work on the Executive
Summary of the pre game talk so Hans can
keep up.
Ian Halliday (Right wing & team strategist)
Ian returned from retirement to enjoy his
hockey and added spark to our forward line.
Several of his goal combinations with Steve
McEntee were spectacular to watch. Always
created opportunities and was a worry for
defending teams.
Neil Ashley (Fullback and Manager)
Neil had a stellar year and showed great
skill in defence. Neil provided a solid
foundation for our attack throughout the
year. He also did a great job as Team
Manager, getting a full team on the park
every week.
Steve McEntee (Striker)
Steve’s goal scoring prowess is legendary;
he runs all day and creates opportunities
whenever he gets near the ball. Steve was
the go-to-guy for the team and he just kept
putting them away all year. The stats speak
for themselves (as at round 17 with 1 game
to go): 35 goals which was 54% of the
team’s total, scored in all but 2 games,
scored more than 1 goal in 12 games
including 5 out of 10 in round 14.
Peter Dawkins
(Centre Half)
Ever reliable Peter had another outstanding
season only losing his cool once …or… er ..
twice … or …
Ever reliable at centre half back Peter rarely
puts in a bad game. He runs tirelessly all
game in a vain attempt to make the rest of
us look good and ultimately win. His strategy
worked for the better part of the season until
we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws
of victory on a couple of occasions late in
the season.
41
Johnno Orr (Halfback)
In his first year in Over 50s Johnno took a
few games to adjust to the pace, but then
played consistently for the remainder of the
season. When free of Goundrey Cup
commitments, he was a strong contributor
for the team, providing plenty of drive from
the half-back line. Always willing to offer
advice to others; unfortunately the umpires
usually didn’t appreciate it.
This year he has generally played of the left
wing where he has had many telling forays
around the goals (and scored a few goals)
John also has a prodigious memory for the
game of hockey, being able to recall
players, grounds and significant events that
goes way way back.
Once again it has been a pleasure to play in
the team with John, who never seems to
have a bad game.
Bruce Porter (everywhere)
Young Bruce officially joined the team late in
the second round and added an extra set of
legs. Bruce can run all day and has good
close stick skills. He slotted into an inner
position, then halfback and is capable of
playing in any position. Bruce’s only black
mark was choosing to go on holiday in
Singapore rather than play hockey in round
15.
Rod Wake (Fullback)
Rod is one of the quiet achievers of the
team, going about his business of deep
defense clinically and efficiently. Rod is one
of the hardest workers in the backline and
often saved us in the last line of defense
with his never say die approach. He has a
strong tackle and just keeps going and
going. Well done Rod.
Guy Hickey (Goalie)
Guy, previously undisputed as the
consummate club events photographer, has
accepted a new challenge as our goal
keeper this year. He debuted early in the
first round and has performed consistently
well with renewed confidence each week.
Having not played hockey previously, goal
keeping must now be considered a right of
passage by Guy [and Alene].
Tom Rushton (Goalsneak)
For three weeks Tom had an outstanding
season scoring goals in consecutive weeks
before returning to his former form of
“swishing and missing”. Ironically the team’s
form after being season leaders dropped
when Tom’s form dropped and when he
selfishly travelled overseas, disappointingly
putting personal pleasure ahead of his
team’s needs.
For a player who only started his hockey
late in life, it has not taken Tom long to learn
the key ingredient of the sport at Vets level,
sledging! Next year the team goal is to teach
Tom to sledge the opposition not us!
Another shortcoming in Tom is that, sadly
he doesn’t drink although I did hear him
swear (ok once!). A great season Tommy.
Leo Welten (Forward)
“Mr Fill in” – Leo has been amazing this year
with his efforts in helping our team in times
of need. He has many times completed his
own game and driven great distances to
provide us with that extra player we so badly
need in the mid field. On the field he is often
“dog tired” but with silky skills has been able
to still take on a number of defenders and
set up some good goal scoring
opportunities.
His team and club spirit is greatly
appreciated by all the guys in the 50’s.
Vick Rypp (Forward)
Victor is our left inner and when he and
Peter combine they are a formidable force.
Victor is one of our fittest team members
and works diligently in that position; he
transferred from another club this year and
has been a welcome and steady asset to
our team. Thanks for the season and best
wishes for next year.
Roger Bell (Team Advisor)
As we all know, our goalie, Roger had an
unfortunate accident on the first week of the
season and was unable to fulfill his duties
with the team. We forgave him eventually for
letting the side down when he braved the
elements on more than one occasion to
come and cheer for the team.
John Smith (Forward)
Ever reliable and a consistent team
member, John can capably hold down any
forward or half position.

Over 55 Division 1 - Men
This year saw the majority of the Over 50’s from last year progressing into the Over 55’s and once we
got there found it was still a very competitive grade with some hard work needed to achieve results. As I
write this it appears that we have made the four with a win in our last game. We started with 15 members
and with injuries etc it looks like we will finish with 10 players and someone commented that it must be
age catching up on us, but I find this hard to believe. Thanks to all who were involved this year and the
effort that was put in. Thanks also to those that helped us by filling in this year and they were Pat Hall,
Tony Patton, Alene Ivey, Stuart Meredith, Ian Halliday, Roger Kent, Dave Porter, Geoff Riley, Trevor
Welsh, Jaspal Sembi and Kelvin Woodward.
Rob Walker.
Our team captain and team manager for 2005. Rob has been a tower of strength throughout the hockey season. A
reliable and dependable full back for all our games. As a defender his interception skills have been the downfall of
many an attacking forward. Rob was reknown for his powerful clearances from the backline and "saved the day"
on numerous occasions. Thanks Rob for your leadership this year and your inspirational talks at half time.
Denis Bawden (Forward)
The team “seagull struck again this season with some great goals from close in. Has provided us with the run on
the wing and his tackling back skills are always appreciated by the backs. Has been heard complaining about the
legs and knees at times but we have yet to see any effects on his play of these ailments. Also one of the team
members who actually train on a Thursday night.
So in all another solid season put in by Denis and one appreciated by his fellow team members and can we all say
we hope you will be back in 2006 and then we don’t have to get a waiver for you to play next season.
Bruce Cadd (Half Back/Forward)
Bruce (Caddy) is Mr Versatility playing at half back (left and right), wing (left and right), centre forward (sometimes)
and full back (not so often). He is renowned for his uncompromising attitude, particularly in defence and
sometimes (not deliberately?) plays the man before the ball. We are not sure if it is his eyesight.
Bruce has played solidly during the year, particularly at right half and has ruffled a few feathers in the opposition
forwards (the feather duster?). His cleaning skills have come to the fore and he has cleaned up a few players
during the season. We lost him to Bali for a week and he arrived late for the early game one week, but he made up
for it by scoring a brilliant goal against North Coast Raiders. Playing at left wing he calmly slotted the ball past the
goalie, a goal the forwards would have been proud of.
Tony Illman (Forward)- Zimbabwe
One of our more fit players, and a good team member who seems to be able to run all day. Always puts his best
into a game and enjoys himself. Scores a few goals along the way and has an unusual style when attacking the
ball but never gives up. Not easily upset by opposition players, enjoys the after match socializing. A good clubman,
who has had a good year, but gets busy towards the end of the season due to his business commitments. Thanks
for another top effort Tony and hopefully a few more to come in the future.
Keith Jackaman (Half Back)
An injury to Skinta early in the season saw him miss a lot of games but when he returned at the end of the season
it was noticed that we definitely missed his skills early on whilst he was out. We hope that next season he will be
again one of the stalwarts in our back line.
Ian Knight (Goalie/Full Back)
When we could not find a goalie to play on a regular basis early in the season Ian stepped in and did a magnificent
job till the arrival of Alec Scott. We thank you for that Ian but know the shift back to Full Back was appreciated
where you could use your on field skills. Overseas travel stopped Ian playing a full season and also in his last
game Ian was injured and required hospital treatment. We hope all is well with Ian because we certainly missed
his skills in the last part of the season and look forward to seeing you again next season.
Ian “Mouse” Lyon (Forward)
To those who have not had the privilege of playing in a team with “mouse” let me tell you that you have missed an
opportunity to witness a player who gives it their all.
I am still confused as to where the “mouse” tag originated. My best hunch is that it is due to his ability to be as quiet
as a “ “. However that would not sit quite well for he is a player who has great communication skills on the field
as many of his fellow forwards would attest.
43
It can’t be because as a mouse he would have a small heart for that too would not fit with the person. Ian is always
giving 100%.
As well as providing our team with goal power mouse has also been a member of the recent state veterans team to
travel inter state. A trip which he found most enjoyable – though we have not had any war stories about his
escapades – such is Ian’s nature he would have others do that.
Perhaps that’s where the mouse comes from, quiet but effective.
Kingsley McGuire (Full Back)
Our stalwart full back who went overseas and missed a few games this season. When he was missing we certainly
noticed he wasn’t there. Kingsley has, like a lot of us, had his injuries this season both on the field or whilst on
holidays but has always been there each week. Again at half time his words have been absorbed by the team
members and often as not have helped us hold teams or even go on to beat them.
Thanks for the work done in the season and we hope to see you next year so that magic 700 game mark is
passed.
Neil McPhail (Half Back)
Who would want to play centre half back - you have nowhere to hide when you need a break and with no reserves
to call on this year Neil kept on running from one end of the field to the other.
Neil never plays a bad game and is equally effective in defence and attack with his sound ball control and solid hit.
Often carries the ball out of danger in defence, is available for short passes midfield and distributes the ball to
advantage.
A player who the team relies on each week and never lets us down. Apparently his idea of "warming up" is to go
surfing on Saturday mornings- it seems to work pretty well for him.
Keep up the good work Neil.
Terry Parker (Forward)
Terry is one of the more skillful players in the team. He covers a tremendous amount of ground during the game,
constantly chasing, presenting himself, setting up plays, encouraging all players and is deadly in front of goals.
Back problems this year have not stopped him giving 100% and running out the entire game. Another solid
year and look forward to you being there in 2006.
Alec Scott (Goalie)
The O/55 Vets started the year off without a regular goalkeeper so a rotation basis was put in place for all to share
goalkeeping duties during the year. Some of the Forwards, especially “The Mouse” and “Zimbarbweeee” were
looking a little concerned by week 3 but then “Along Came Alec”. What a find.
Alec who had been associated with the junior grades came out of self-exile and decided to fill the goal area and
place his huge shadow across the goal face. He did just that.
Alec has acquitted himself well with many fine saves. With his precise plays and tremendous understanding in
deep defence, his presence made such a difference to the back line this year.
Thanks Alec for being part of the team…. See you next year.
Colin Willis (Forward/Half Back)
Colin started late and we missed his skills. Along with injury woes and overseas recruiting duties robbed the team
of a versatile player who can virtually score goals from anywhere, has a real mean cross and switches in to the half
back position and performs magnificent work stopping players at will. Willie get that knee better we need you in the
team at the start of next season.
Ken Woollams (Forward/Half Back)
Again Ken’s season was curtailed by injury that put him out for the season. His presence was certainly missed.
We hope that in the 2006 season we will see him return to the team for a full season of games.

U17A Boys
Season Summary
This was a very challenging season, bringing the top junior team up to 17A level. Playing at this
grade of hockey meant commitment from the players and the coach and thanks to the efforts of
Keith Harper the team managed two training nights a week, one on turf. However, a
combination of evening jobs and other activities by the players plus the problems of getting
sufficient turf time and space meant that the training could never quite meet the requirements
needed for this level. However, the players were always ultra-keen to play the Friday night
matches and after the first few games, the team structure settled in. We had a few very close
losses during the season and only a couple of big defeats. More importantly Keith and the team
would always take the games as they came, not worrying about previous results and as such
they had some excellent wins. The good thing about the second half of the season was that we
always did much better against the teams that had beaten us in the first half and the players’
confidence grew with each game. Next year promises great things for the top junior side with a
new turf at Buzza allowing more turf time and several of the 15As coming through. During the
season it was rewarding to see some of the players such as Chris Morrison, Rhys Spedding
and Stuart Taylor move up to play a few games with some of the top senior teams.
Matthew Bell (left half)
“Bellie” has been terrific this season. He is the guy
who gets the team moving with his chat and
encouragement. Has slotted in well at left half and
sends out a distinct “they shall not pass” message to
the opposition right wing. He has really matured this
season and has made many gutsy performances.
Matt may lack some pace but his anticipation is first
rate and his endeavour is never in question. A great
team man – well done.
prevented him slotting away a couple of goals. Pete
is also highly versatile and can play anywhere in the
team – and will do it well and willingly. He is a perfect
team player and will do well in senior ranks next year.
Josh Harmon (full back)
Good to have Josh back in the team after a move to
“The Dark Side” (actually Wasps) last year. He is a
resilient defender and one who will not let the
opposition past. His reading of the game is excellent
– especially in the sweeper position and has a good
understanding with Tristan in goal. Great at the back
for controlling team positions and is always shouting
encouragement. Once he gets his hitting back on line
(superb at the beginning of the season but falling
away a little at the end) he’ll be ready for a great
season in the senior ranks.
David Beros (winger)
It was good to have “Berro” back this year after he’d
taken a year out to find his favourite scoring stick.
Dazzling runs down either wing would have
opponents floundering and when not leading the wing
attacks would quietly get himself next to the
goalposts to convert those passes and missed shots
into opportunist goals. “Berro” has some great
dribbling skills and with a bit more controlled
assertiveness will do very well in senior hockey. Best
wishes for the move to the senior ranks, Dave.
Chris Lees (full back)
“Sleazy” had a blinder of a season, teaming up well
with Josh at full-back. Chris is Mr Indestructible,
slightly built yet with timing and strength in the tackle.
Even if he’s beaten he’ll continue to get it and if
thrown off-balance will still try and engineer some
way of getting the ball out of defence. He’s one of the
quiet ones of the team but more than makes up for it
with calm and persistent tackling, often leading
opponents to yell out in frustration. Good luck with
the senior teams Sleazy.
Neil Ferguson (right/left half)
One of the original “3 Amigos” “Fergie” once again
demonstrated his resilience and strong tackling at
right half. His free hits now have “The Force” behind
them, setting up innumerable scoring opportunities
for the forwards. Often seen as the quiet member of
the team he has nevertheless been ready with the
quick jocular comment to relax the team when things
are getting fractious on the field. Good vision and the
ability to overlap up the wing has meant that Neil has
added good momentum to the team’s attacking
options.
Chris Morrison (Inner /Centre Forward)
Great to write up this year’s report without “Morri” (the
second Amigo) having used up all the medical kit!
One of the key members of the team Chris has
managed to put injuries aside and play some blinding
games, linking well with Stu and Rhys. His strength
and skill are a great combination and he has often
been carving up the opposition with some great runs
rewarded by fine goals or passes to his forwards.
With some more effort on his man-on-man tussles he
will mature into a very fine player.
Peter Gross (inner/centre forward)
Good to see Peter continuing with the club. Probably
one of the fitter members of the team Pete just keeps
running and hounds the opposition out of any
options, forcing countless errors from them. His skills
are building all the time and only bad luck has
45
William Remedios (Inner)
Another of the quieter members of the team Will has
tremendous skills and ability. He can ghost his way
into any situation and will pick up and dribble the ball
with excellent control and can lay off to team mates
with precision. He has a very good rapport with his
team mates but with more dedication and assertion in
his play he will improve markedly. When Will is
playing well he’s on fire – we just need to see that
more often. Keep it up Will!
many years coaching these guys. After a break last
year since guiding these same players to the U15B
South flag in 2003, Keith returned to steer the lads
into another season. It is a tough league, and Keith
has been the perfect guy to coach the team. He has
an excellent rapport with the guys, most of who were
there with him back in 1998/1999 in the Under-11As.
Keith’s calm exterior hides a deep passion for the
game and coaching of the team, only rarely has he
shown frustration and more often the calm has been
broken by a wide grin or cheer as the team snatches
victory or a draw from the jaws of defeat (or a
Dockers win!). Bloody marvelous!
Tristan Ryan (Goal Keeper)
Mr Cool. If Tris was more relaxed, he’d be horizontal!
One of the great goalies at the club Tris had one of
those seasons when either it all went well or it didn’t.
Sometimes when in a tough league the goalie is the
last line of defence and on many occasions Tris
showed why he is going to be excellent once he is in
senior ranks. As ever some of his saves were out of
this world – all he needs to do is get hungry for the
game and start shouting at his defence for cover.
This “Amigo” is going places!
Neil Taylor (Manager)
Took the job on as “Harps” looked around parents for
assistance and wasn’t quick enough to hide!
Managerial style very much in “remote”, swanning off
to places unknown every now and then leaving Tom
to pick up the pieces. Shouted encouragement from
the sidelines at games, moaned at the cold (despite
Scottish upbringing) wrote up the reports, umpired on
occasion and celebrated with a glass of wine after the
games. Not bad really!
Rhys Spedding (Centre half/full back/inner/centre
forward)
The introduction says it all – Rhys plays anywhere
where we are in strife and needing cover. One of the
great Melville Club members, Rhys has taken over
ownership of the team medical kit from Morri, often
needing several ice-packs just to get through the
games! This is because Rhys is totally committed to
his tackling and his runs through the middle – often
only being stopped by fouls from the opposition. Rhys
is a great team player and has tremendous rapport
with his team mates.
Tom Harmon (Assistant Manager)
Tom picked up the pieces as Taylor disappeared
from time to time. Great to have Tom to help out
because at least he knew the rules and what we were
really supposed to do with all the pieces of paper that
we had to fill in and all the information we had to
enter on the web. Tom, thanks for helping keep the
Manager to do the right things!
Norm Morrison (Umpire)
This is the most difficult of all jobs in the team – I
know it, I’ve done it! Norm used all his playing
knowledge to carry out a superb role as umpire for
the team. All you hear these days, whether AFL,
football (that’s fitba’) or hockey are complaints about
umpires. Melville City is lucky in that we have a large
number of dedicated and highly competent umpires
and Norm is no exception. Cool, calm and always
keeping up with play, Norm was the best umpire in
the competition. Thanks mate – well done!
Stuart Taylor (inner/centre half)
“Lion Tamer” (????). Has really matured this season
and has brought true leadership to add to his
undoubted skills. Stu has been in tremendous form
this season – either controlling a game from centre
half or carving up the opposition in the forward line
through amazing dribbles – and even more amazing
goals. One “Goal of the Season” would normally be
followed up the next week by one even better. Stu
has also hardened up this season and not so easily
knocked off the ball. Never stops running, never
stops trying.
Thanks Go To……….
Many thanks to the following players from our Under15A team who helped us out admirably several times
during the season:
Mitch Welten (winger/half back)
Great to see Mitch get stuck in this year. His
positioning as a winger is improving all the time and
he’s attacking the ball with his running, rather than
running off it as in the past. His confidence is growing
and he now looks to power past the opposition to set
up attacks. What’s even better is that his persistence
and anticipation is paying off in front of goals where
he’s scored a few off near-post deflections - perfect
for wingers. A perfect team player.
Patrick Welsh, Jordan Hunt, Jason Tate, Christian
Nettleton, Brendon Jojart
Finally where would we be without the endless
support of the parents coming down each evening
and taking the lads down to training mid-week terrific support from all. Keep up the cheering and the
good natured banter from the sidelines – it really
helps a lot during those games when things might not
be going quite as planned!
Keith Harper (Coach)
Where would the team (and Melville junior hockey)
be without him? “Harps” came back to coach
Melville’s top junior team this year after having spent
Neil Taylor, Manager

U17B Girls
The girls started off slowly and took a while to remember the game, but soon settled into it.
With a core of players from last year and a few new ones, we turned out to have quite a strong
team. We built upon the set plays for short corners that were introduced last year, and worked
on adding a few set plays from the field. Our strengths seemed to grow as the season
progressed, with a spot in finals looking certain. With only losing a few to seniors at the end of
this year, I’m hoping that the girls will keep together over summer and play some social hockey
on our new turf and keep their skills up ready for next season. An excellent year all round – well
done everyone!
Coach:
Manager:
Nicola Ogden
Charles Elliot
member with an infectious smile, Julia is a
great asset to the team.
Janke Arnold
A late starter to the season, but a very
welcome addition! Janke took a little while
to get used to the way we play in WA, but
once she had that sorted, proved to be a
very strong outside forward with a good
instinct for the ball. Set up some great
attacking play in the D. We’ll look forward to
seeing more of you next year!
Erin Hall
Solid in defence, Erin has excellent stick
skills, a great hit and is versatile enough to
play in almost any position. She has been a
strong presence in both attacking and
defensive short corners, and links well with
other players to switch the play when
needed. Her strengths have been
recognised with a regular berth in SL5’s,
and a few runs in SL3’s – keep up the good
work!
Kate Bawden
Kate is our little goal sneak, having a
favorite spot on either post to tuck the ball
into the goal. Kate missed the tail end of the
season due to a bout of glandular fever, but
we’re hoping that she’ll be fighting fit for the
start of next season. Hopefully we’ll see
more of you at training next year and can
work on that seagull shot!
Katherine Hall
Kat has a killer hit – low, hard and accurate,
and is very strong over the ball. Kat’s
reading of the play has improved greatly this
year and she’s maturing into a strong
outside half. A few runs in SL5’s towards
the end of the season have given Kat a
taste for bigger and better things, so we’ll be
looking forward to another great year from
Kat in 2006.
Amy Elder
Another outside forward, Amy has been
involved in the attacking line of the team.
Unfortunately other commitments stole her
away from the team for several games, but
we’re always happy to have her around.
Has a good idea where to be when the ball
is coming, and with regular attendance at
training, will develop stronger skills.
Whitney Lawson
Whitney is our quiet achiever. Parked in the
centre forward position, Whitney roves from
side to side, picking up the ball and driving
for goal. She stays high and controls the
forward drive and is a major asset to the
team. Same again next year, please!
Julia Elliott
Our tenacious inner/wing, Julia chases all
over the field in the pursuit of her target.
Invited up from U15’s, she is very strong
over the ball, getting low to the ground and
is very hard to stop! Julia has a good hit
and also does most of the pushes on
attacking short corners. A vivacious team
47
Erica Remedios
Erica shines as inner, running after the ball
and linking with other players to maintain the
forward drive. She has a natural instinct for
the attacking positions, and has worked
hard on keeper her stick down. Another one
we lose to seniors next year, but we wish
Erica all the best in her hockey career.
Caitlyn Ogden
The goalkeeper that strikes fear into the
hearts of the opposition (and half of the
team at training!). Caitlyn has had a great
season this year, taking more responsibility
for the defensive moves and calling players
into position. She has also been the regular
keeper for SL5’s for most of the season,
which has further improved her skills.
Yvette Rutherfoord
New to the team this year, Yvette has
slotted into the centre half position and
taken control. Her excellent stick skills,
reading of the play and strength over the
ball have also earned her a spot with the
SL5’s and regular runs with the SL3’s.
Working hard in the middle to drive the team
forward, Yvette has had a great year. Yet
another loss to seniors at the end of the
year, but she’ll have many great years
ahead of her. Good luck!
Caitlin Oosterbaan
Caitlin has proven to be a tower of strength
in the defensive line this year, teaming up
with Erin to provide a solid defensive barrier
to the opposition’s onslaughts. Another one
to be playing in the SL5’s, Caitlin’s great
vision for the ball and strong clearances
have saved our bacon on many occasions.
We’ll miss her when she goes to seniors
next year – best of luck!
Ellen Oosterbaan
Brought up from U15’s and the youngest on
the team, Ellen has also been the most
versatile. Plays well in all positions
allocated, she shines in left half, is strong as
a full back and when flung into wing on a
coach’s whim, even scored a goal! Ellen is
always full of encouragement for her team
and is a pleasure to have around. An
excellent year – keep it up!
Caitlyn Surman
Bumped up from U15’s, and out of her
favourite centre forward to the inner’s
position, Caitlyn has had a great year. She
is very strong over the ball, has good vision
and positions herself well. Caitlyn has
worked hard on her running and has shown
excellent drive in attack to link the play from
the half to the forward lines. A very good
year.
Special thanks to our regular umpires, Pat Hall and Mike Hall – without whom we would not
have had a game. Charles Elliot kept us posted with club news as our manager, custodian of
the first aid kit, weekly report writer and updated the internet results – much appreciated!
Thanks also to the U15 girls who stepped up and had a run with the “big girls” – take a bow
Jaime Greenacre, Vanessa Martin, Paige Growden and Sheridan Gore.

U15A Boys
Our Under 15A's found the going tough this year in what was a very strong year of 15s. To their
credit they stuck to the task and spent a lot of the season learning how to play a strong
structured game. The effort paid off because our losses were light compared to some of the
teams in the grade. The team's efforts were recognized by the opposition coaches praising the
boys for their improved style and structure of hockey that had developed in the latter half of the
season. What has been learnt this season will put the team in good stead for next year.
A special thank you must go to Daniel White who found time to coach and ‘run’ the kids and to
the manager of the decade Trevor Welsh who never missed a trick.
The 15A's are looking good for next year with a large number of the boys still eligible to play.
Enjoy the summer and see you around the club.
Happy hockey,
Greg Hunt
Karl Tulloch
Karl is a natural goal sneak who just found it a
little more difficult this year to show his true
talents. When in front of goals though, he is a
tenacious player always looking for the
opportunity to squeeze one past the goalie. He
listened to his coach and to his credit has shown
real improvement in the way he moves the ball
under control. He will be the dominant forward
we know he can be. A Jamie Dwyer in the
making.
Patrick Welsh
Patrick showed he had developed into a great
player this year. His dedication to his hockey
through his school and his desire to assist the
17s on many occasions added to his capacity to
dominate at full back. He applied what his
coaches told him and proved to be a valuable
player. Next year will see Patrick take the next
step up and be a truly classy player for the club.
Kyle Dolling
Kyle had a strong season mixing his skate
version of the sport with his field version. Kyle's
physical presence and strength was a great
asset to the team. His stick skills improved
markedly this year even though he can only use
one side of the stick in the field version of the
game. Congratulations on your state selection
for ice hockey, Kyle.
Jason Tate
Jason had many opportunities to show the great
stick skills he had honed over the last summer
playing indoor. He fooled many defenders with
his sleek skills and set up numerous
opportunities for our forwards. Jason's flicking
skills should have been used more but there will
be plenty of time next year to use them as he
gets stronger. Jase had a great year and is
ready now to take the next step up. Watch out
17s.
Mark Timmel
Mark showed that brains and not brawn is what
is needed to play good hockey. And good
hockey is what Mark played all year. At times
the opposition were overwhelming but Mark put
his body on the line numerous times to prove
that he was there to mix it with the biggest of
them. Mark's skills developed well throughout
the year and his passing was strong part of his
game. Next year as a `senior' player in the 15s
Mark will no doubt prove to be a leader in a what
will be a quality team.
Jordan Hunt
Jordan, one of our best trainers and hardest
runners, had a great year capped off with
selection in the state 15s. His presence in the
midfield was strong and he set up many forward
options. His tenacity and desire to win often
inspired his teammates to lift and perform at a
higher level. He proved to be a dominant player
in the grade and often was marked heavily but
he slipped the markers many times with speed
and sleek skills. Now if you could keep your
mouthguard in your mouth your mother would be
happy.
49
Steven Hall
Steven showed time and time again to be the
silent assassin. He regularly disposed the
opposition and turned defence into offence.
Steve showed great stamina to play out many
games in the difficult and tiring inner position.
Towards the end of the season when the
forwards really started to work well together,
Steven was instrumental in initiating many good
forward moves.
Matt Bowater
Matt had a great year in goals against real
quality opposition. He was keen always to `don'
the gear and have the practice and showed the
tenacity to defend his space that is characteristic
of great goalies. He learned many new skills this
year and will take these skills into next year and
prove to be one of the best goalies in the grade.
Hit your stick on the posts too much and you
may be playing with a piece of wood next year.
Sean Ranford
Sean played about half the season in the 15A's
and the other half in the B's. Sean oozes class
on the left wing with brilliant stick skills and next
year will no doubt be the dominant forward he
knows he can be. He was a great asset to the
B's scoring numerous times. The father/son
rivalry for highest goal scorer for the season
must have nearly been in Sean's favour.
Christian Nettleton
Willetton's loss was Melville's gain and Christian
showed the sleek skills that earned him the
reputation as a class player. Christian's laconic
style often frustrated the coaching staff and
confused the opposition who regularly got
beaten by well timed tackles and deft passes to
a team-mate. A brilliant solo-run at the end of
the season has ensured the ‘rumbling’ of the
juganaught for next year.
Sam Geers
Sam played some of the season in the B's but
earned his place in the A's. His composure
under pressure was outstanding given the size
and dominance of the opposition at times. He
has wonderful stick skills probably as a result of
many hours of lounge room hockey training.
Sam will be a real force as a `senior' player of
the 15s next year.
Brendan Jojart
BJ was an import from Fremantle and a great
one at that. He didn't find it as easy to score in
15's as he had the year before but he now
knows what is needed to make it in the grade.
He played the tough role as an inner and worked
hard at it. No doubt BJ will be a quality player for
the team next year stepping up into a leadership
role in the forward line. Time to get a new stick
BJ while the sales are on.
Nick Geers
Nick proved to be one of the most improved
players for the year. Playing left half and being
given one of the most difficult tasks of watching
the right wing of the opposition, Nick learned the
skills of tackling and put them into practice from
the outset. Nick is a smart player, using his head
to counteract for his lack of size and showed
many opposition forwards that it was not going
to be easy to get to goals through him. I wouldn't
be surprised if he sneaks under the fence for a
bit more practice over summer.
Nick Mathwin
Nick came into the side from the B's part way
through the year and worked hard to refine the
skills needed for 15A's. It was good to have
someone in the forward line with some size to
match it with some of the opposition we came
across. Nick was a tireless worker and gave
100% both at training and on the field. Pretty
hard to beat at `British Bulldog' as well.
Callum Bint
Callum again proved to be a consistent and
dominant player in the competition. His timing
when tackling is second to none and his
coolness under pressure was a delight to watch.
All who watched Callum felt confident in his
ability to `save the day'. Callum will no doubt
show his class in the 17s next year and will be a
dominant player in that league as well. I would
even trust him to make me a decent `Big Mac'.

U15B Girls
At the beginning of the season I was asked to take on the U15 girls and being a 27yr old male I
had to think long and hard about it, but I decided a challenge was needed. And it was a decision
I’m very glad I made. The 15 girls that I coached turned out to be a great group and many
laughs were had.
The season started slowly but we powered on as the season wore on and at the time of writing
we are sitting 1 point out of the four. We worked on what I saw were their strengths and we
managed to, on numerous occasions totally dominate sides with our passing and running game.
It has been a pleasure to coach the girls and I hope I managed to teach them something that
will help them in their hockey futures.
The U15 girls for 2005 are:
MAI BARNES- (Left Half)- The first of the bunch
of terriers in the side. She has an awesome
work ethic combined with a never say die
attitude and some great stick skills. She
combined with Paige and Ashley on many
occasions to dominate down the left side. Well
done on a great season Mai.
PAIGE GROWDEN- (Left Wing)- As the season
progressed Paige just got better and better. She
makes great position on the field and in the “D”
and that’s why she finished up being our top
goal scorer. Has great pace and the ability to
take on and beat the defence. Well done Paigey.
KYLIE HANKINSON- (Goalkeeper)- Ahh the
loudest goalie on the earth until the whistle goes
and she falls silent. Has great potential as a
goalie but is paranoid about kicking someone
too hard. But only conceding 16 goals so far
shows she has the talent. Well done Kyles.
ASHLEY BRICKHILL- (Left Inner)- Young
Brickie is one of the most hard working left
inners I have ever seen, she literally runs herself
into the ground cramping up numerous times.
She linked defence and attack together well and
her half time talks were always great. Well done
matey.
KATE HILL- (Forward)- One of our quieter
players who went about her hockey quietly but
did it well. If asked to do a job, she did it and in
the process scored some timely goals. Has a
good…….. on her when given a bit of space.
Well done Kate.
GEORGIA GIBSON- (Fullback)- Ahh the
fearless warrior one of the true characters of the
side. She has a bone crunching tackle that
mostly consists of a lot of shoulder. But an
absolute rock in defence and rarely lowered her
colours. Still maintains she can play forward
……. Not with those pink shoes. Well done
Georgia.
VANESSA MARTIN- (Half Back, Fullback)Nessy the smiling assassin. Combined with
Georgia at the back these two were brutal. Has
a lovely hit on her when she doesn’t think about
it too much and also a great flat stick tackle. Still
managed to let out a scream every now and
then when the ball was hit at her too hard. Well
done Nessy.
SHERIDAN GORE- (Centre Half, Fullback)- Our
solid centre half and towards the end of the
season fullback (much to her disgust). Was our
rock in the middle, linking brilliantly with Jamie
and Mai across the half back line. Her hitting can
be exceptional and you can always guarantee
someone is annoying her on the other team.
Well Done Sheri.
KATE MILLER- (Forward, Halfback)- Our
second member of the terrier squad. Our
English import gave 110% in whatever position
she played and if Kate was around the
opposition knew all about it. If you need to know
who’s going out with who at school Kate’s your
girl to see. Well done Kate and welcome to
Australia.
JAMIE GREENACRE- (Right Half, Centre Half)Our trusty right half. Jamie is so strong over the
ball even George can’t knock her over. Gave us
great drive down the right and possesses a hit
the seniors would be proud of. Has an awesome
hockey brain and reads the play very well. A
delight to coach and with her skills I hope she
stays with Melville as she has a bright future.
51
DAYNA OSBOURNE- (Right Inner)- Our third
member of the terrier squad. On her day Dayna
can take teams apart with her relentless attack
of the ball. Has a great flat stick trap and
controls the ball well. Dayna was one of the
characters of the team and her goal celebrations
were always entertaining. Well done Dayna.
JESSICA SPERNICK- (Forward)- The other
Spernick twin who played mainly on the right
wing to give us the width we needed and she did
it exceptionally well. Always making great
position and keeping the left half honest. Well
done Jess.
SOPHIE WILLIAMS- (Forward, Halfback)- Good
old reliable Soph. Always gave 110% on the
field where ever she played. Has got some very
good skills, but doesn’t give herself enough
credit. Soph was a joy to have on the team and
we hope to see her again …… someone has to
keep those u15 boy’s in order. Well done
Sophie.
ALEXANDRA PERVAN – (Forward)- The girl
that is never short of a word Alex goes about her
hockey well. Has a great hit on her, if only she
could get her feet out of the way? She works
hard in the forward line and is always attacking.
Well done Alex and keep up the good chatter.
ASHLEY SPERNICK- (Forward)- One half of
the Spernick twins. Ash gave 110% out on the
field and has some great strength over the ball.
If asked to do a job she did it without question.
Scoring a hat trick against Uni was one of the
season highlights. Well done Ashley.
So yesyou counted right 15 girls. I would like to say big thank you to all the parents, supporters and
especially the girls themselves for their patience and support during the season. Having four subs every
week was very testing but there were never any complaints. Our support every week was fantastic and
I’m sure the girls will agree.
Special thanks to Shani Spernick and Pat Hall for umpiring. Steve McEntee for giving me much needed
advice and of course Nicola Ogden. You have helped the team and myself enormously this year and I
can’t thank you enough.

U15B South Boys
2005 was a season of showing we could match it with all the teams, for most of the game!
There were many games we could have won and several we did. If only we could have scored
off corners!! All of the players showed development during the season and enjoyed playing as a
team. A lot of fun was had during the year and the coach’s burpees were a great motivator!
Thanks to Cactus for his leadership during the year.
criticize when he gets the job done…
Generally.
Alexander Wragg
AJ – “Cactus, can I go up front?” Repeat this
line several times in a desperate begging
voice and you have AJ. He rarely gets his
opportunity to play in the forward line
because of his use in the back line, despite
his size. Great eye for the ball and plays
well when angry!
Josh Kent
Josh – Regularly surprises with passages of
play. Seems to lay dormant and burst into
life on occasions. One of the quieter or more
accurately drowned out players by others in
the team, which makes my job exceedingly
difficult to produce humorous anecdotes.
Solid half back. (Odoyle Rules)
Laurence Rushton
Laurence - What can I say? He is a
Rushton. Need I say more? No, but to
humour him I will say a bit more. There is a
lot of these Rushtons running around.
Lawrence is not to be out done by his elder
brothers in the vocal department. AJ must
rub off on him a tad as he also constantly
questions his position on the field. Lawrence
also is a decent fullback hence his limited
opportunities in the forward line.
Chris Crosby
Chris – Son of Ian. Must be on a similar diet
to AJ. Dodge Dip Duck Dive and Dodge.
This little man puts to use the 5 D’s of
Dodge ball. Meanders around opponents
with ease and reads the play well. A bit of
size is needed, particularly if wanting to
hassle bigger opponents.
Cam Franklin
Cam – Cam, Cam he’s our boy, if he can’t
do it no one… will! A brave volunteer to put
on the pads and be our keeper for the
season. For all I know he could be a star
striker! He constantly improved throughout
the season and as his confidence in the
pads grew so did his aggressiveness, much
to my delight!
Gradyn Doak
Gradyn – Only took me 13 weeks to spell
your name right. I actually picked it up early
on but decided to annoy you all season. Yet
another who begs and begs to go in the
forward line. Loves the jink and run.
Delighted himself and everyone else when
he finally scored a goal after many near
misses.
Tim Deacon
Tim – Run Tim Run! And he does! All day
long! Unless he has been rowing half the
Swan River prior to playing. Even then he
still manages to turn the legs over. Still a
new kid to the game, a big improver over the
season and will be lethal when he fine tunes
his hit. Careful you don’t break that hockey
stick of yours too. It looks like an antique!
Blake Simms
Blake – The closet forward. Why didn’t you
tell me earlier! What else aren’t you telling
me? Could be a more vocal, but again could
be the case he just doesn’t get a chance to
speak due to others in the team. Promising
player with good skills and persistence.
Patrick Obiri-Boateng
Pat – “Sorry” “Stop saying sorry Pat” “Sorry”
He plays the game well. Takes advice well
and uses it on the field. Some more advice
for you, not all advice is good advice. Great
afro! Ladies he can dance! Ask to see his
moon walk!
Liam Woodward
Liam – Fair hit, fair skills and a fairly high
centre half on many occasions. At times
more of a defensive centre forward and
dazzles with his skills. Although you can’t
53
Ian – Team manager, my manager, my
saviour! Round one I was without use! No
manager and unfamiliar with the new card
system despite my father being a manager.
Needless to say I needed a manager and to
the rescue came Ian Crosby. Thanks mate,
a true life saver. Even organised for the old
oranges to be at the games!
Couldn’t have done it without you mate!
Jason Perring
Jason – Loves to let people know when he
is around one way or another. Good pace as
well. Also loves to jink and run. Blonde hair,
blonde stick and a big wind up to show off
his stick. Loves to take players on and
usually runs circles around them.
Special appearances from:Nic – Great presence in the mid field early in the season but unfortunately we lost him to the As
for most of the year.
Sean – A target forward who made AJ, Laurence and Gradyn very jealous of his high striker
position.
Sam – Played a more central centre half position when he played.
BJ – One game 2 goals. Thanks for coming!
Alex – Filled in very ably against Willetton.
David – Helped us out very well when we were caught short.
Steven – Showed true spirit and determination when called to fill in.

U15C South Boys
Through out the season the team all witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly.
We had some great highs with the six-nil win against teams like Kalamunda and then there
were the depressing lows like the five-two loses against teams like WASPS.
The team started playing the season like individuals but as the season went on they began to
play like team members and in their last few games they showed extraordinary talents as a
team passing the ball and receiving it with impeccable precision. It was a great year and I wish
all the best for all the boys who played in the 2005 U15C’s.
Special thanks to Mr Walsh (Manager), Erin Hall (assistant coach on Thursdays), Mat Bowater
for standing in in goals and all the others who assisted with the coaching, all the parents and
everyone else who assisted during the season.
scavenging in the “D” also made him a great
man to have in attack. Great season!
Ryan Angus: Ryan has made a great name for
himself as an incredibly reliable backman. His
hard hit outs and strong tackles have made him
the ultimate go-to guy for any troubling situation
we got stuck in.
Brendan Langlands: Apart from the times when
Brendan’s attention was… lacking, he played
well as a defender and towards the ends of the
season an attacker. His ability to fire the ball in
any directing made him useful for taking frees.
Well done Brendan.
Andrew Flett: Andy had a hesitant start to the
season. He was very ball-shy and held back a
lot from the play. However to his credit he
managed get over his misconceptions and
became a very useful attacker.
Alex Macphail: Alex likes his runs - in fact he
likes them so much that when ever he got the
ball he was out of sight! It was receive and go
for Alex and he forced these runs to pay off with
many of them turning into goals or goal setups.
Well done Alex.
Scott Geoghegan: Scotty is another reliable
backman, usually placed in the midfield Scotty
would receive the ball and BAM… he’d be hot to
trot flying up the field to set up another goal.
Great skills and high stamina made Scotty
priceless.
Daryl North: Daryl contributed well to the team
being able to sub into any attacking position and
hold his own. It was unfortunate that he left the
team to pursue a soccer career and I wish him
the best for his future.
Andrew Gleave: Gleavey is a very dependable
winger. Jumping at any chance to get the ball
and run down the line. Andrew made his
presence known and therefore assisted greatly
enhanced our attacking line-up. Done Gleavey.
Joseph Swan: Joe consistently played strongly
in the centre forward position. When Joe is
listening to the coach and not making up his own
plays he can be very responsive and do well on
the field. Great Season Swanny, good luck next
year.
Adam Goor: Adam is a keen midfieldsman who
is there for any one who needs him. A very
strong hit and an even stronger tackle made him
the man to mark for most opposition. A coach
couldn’t ask for anything more!
Blake Walsh: Blake is a very conscientious
halfback, always in the way, getting involved and
staying committed. Blake’s determination is his
best attribute and it will take him far. Good luck
Blake.
Brad Jones: Brad’s time in goals has had a lot
of extremes on the spectrum. Some
disappointing lows with some easy goals rolling
by and some amazing highs with some of his
great saves. With more attention to his game
and coaches Brad could make a great goalie.
Bryce Wilson: Bryce is most definitely the
powerhouse of the team, taking every
opportunity to fire the ball any which way. I
believe Bryce has great potential and with
further coaching he will go from strength to
strength. Great season Bryce.
Lachlan King: Lockies time on the field always
pleased me. He would often move out of his
position to assist a player in need. His relentless

Claims the most coaches in the team and the
benefits of this are truly showing. Incredible
improvement this year. Well done Tandia

U13B Girls
Results do not always indicate the success of a season. The team included a mix of players
playing their second year in U/13s, U/11s graduating to U/13s, U/11s and several first year
players. As the year progressed, the girls settled into the team format and improved through the
season. This improvement was also commented on by several of the opposition.
Even though the season had it’s challenges, the girls remained positive throughout and
maintained their commitment and enthusiasm. At stages, they even listened!
Wish you all well for the 2006 season.
Rebecca was keen to learn and always had
a question or query. Keep up the great work.
Emma Aylward
The team’s troubleshooter. Emma played
predominantly in the forward line, but filled
in at stages in defence. Was our goalie for a
couple of weeks where she played
extremely well. She’s keen to be a defender
– maybe next year.
Rachel Morey
Completed our fullback line. A busy year in
defence, but Rachel always remained
positive and committed. Was able to read
the play, which enabled her to get into
position to tackle strongly. Rachel’s hitting
improved towards the end of the season,
which assisted her game. Well done.
Rhianna Clay
Does not say a lot, but a very good listener
and quiet achiever. Even though playing
outside her age group, she performed
extremely well in the forward line and
followed the specific tasks assigned her
during the game. Well done Rhianna.
Sarah Morrison
A first year player. As with all first year
players, there was a lot to learn and
absorbed, but she remained positive and
committed. Worked hard and settled in at
right half and improved consistently through
the year. A good season.
Brianna Coleman
The center half of the team. Brianna had a
good season and covered a lot of ground to
provide drive and defensive cover. Set up a
lot of the play. Look forward to you settling
into the position.
Shailey Rushton
Shailey started the season with us and
played well. Finished the season in the
U/13A. Well done.
Jake Coleman
When numbers were light on, Jake came to
the rescue. Even though he had a second
game to play in the morning, he never held
back and gave 100%. Many thanks Jake.
Danielle Sims
Alternated between left and right wings
throughout the year. Followed instructions to
keep her position on the wing even though
at times we had difficulty getting the ball out
to her. Improved through the year and was
another who had a lot of questions and was
keen to learn. Keep it up.
Madelaine De-Iudicibus
Took awhile to figure out who was Peach
and who was Madelaine! Played well at
fullback where she read the play well. Her
strength over the ball improved, especially
towards the end of the season. Her
confidence grew through the season with
the hitting. Good work through the year.
Courtney Smyth
Our goalkeeper who saw quite a bit of
action! Kept going even though under quite
a bit of pressure at times. Started to yell
instructions to her defenders towards the
end. A good year – well done.
Rebecca Moore
Another playing outside her age group but
was never phased. A hard worker in the
forward line, covering a lot of ground.
57
improved as the season progressed. Keep
up the good work.
Kelly St-Clair
Kelly in her first year played mainly on a
wing but also had times at center forward.
Even though there was a lot to learn as a
first year, she kept her head down and
worked hard with her improvement obvious.
Keep it going.
Verity Swift
Completed the half back line at left half.
Another first year player who continued to
improve throughout the season. Gave us drive
from the left and worked hard at making
position. Well done for the year.
Caitlin Sweeting
Caitlin filled a variety of roles for us through
the year. Predominately playing as a
forward, she was able to also drop into the
defence when required. A hard worker with
a strong tackle. Another first year who
Amy Weston
Gave us drive and control playing as an inside
forward. Worked hard through the game and
dropped back in defence to assist when
necessary. A good solid year – well done
Thankyou’s:

U13B South Maroon Boys
Sam Dennis
A Great asset who joined us from down the road this year. Sam consistently
displayed strong hockey skills, together with a good knowledge of the game.
We are very pleased that you made the move Sam! Thanks to Dad for the sideline support!
Nick Emmett
Great assistance in getting the ball forward.A skilled player, and an asset in
the forward line.
Nick Fairfoul
A great team player. Reliable and always does as he is asked. Great work rate,
lots of thought and enthusiasm.
David Ogden
Solid as a rock in defence. showed no fear in tackling.David’s strong hitting
and great attitude makes for a great team member
Stephen Ranford
Very strong in defence. Stephen’s pleasant manner, combined with his skills,
makes him a real asset to the side. many thanks to Dad for umpiring
Steven Oosterbaan
Always in the action, looks cleverly for the pass, accurate and a great team
player.
Matthew Salinovich
Great defence. Matthew a natural in goals. A real solid defender. Needs to make
a lot more noise!
Benjamin Graham
Ben has an enormous work rate, combined with the drive and determination to
give his best each week. Thanks also to Dad for umpiring.
Michael Halliday
Michael’s skills with ball control, tackling, team play and never give up
attitude, makes Michael a valuable team player. Thanks to Dad,once again for giving up his time
to Coach.
Sam Hardinge
Sams stick work and solo runs leave many teams at a loss to cover him. Sam’s
strong hitting , hunger for the ball and love for hockey will thrive in future
years
James Jewson
James has put more thought into his game this year. Worked well with Stephen
and Matthew to provide a solid defence
Adam Riley
Adams skill ,pace and willingness to attack the ball assisted in setting up
many others in the team. Sadly too far to fly from Christmas island for the
last few games!

U13B South White Boys
This season was a tough one. New grade, New faces a new season awaited. It was a slow start
to the season with the player getting to know each other and the position they played. After
those first couple of weeks the boys moulded together to make it a true team. One of the many
factors most of the players from this team will stay in the grade next year and know how tough
this competition is.
I would just like to thank Flur Mason for all her efforts this year. Also like to thank the loyal
supports of the team. I want to see all of you here next year.
Coach Rhys Spedding
positioning and if know one mans up on
forwards they score! Next year he will be a
very good fullback if he remembers that
during a game talk is about the game not
the weekend, his stick or what the coaches
stick is like.
James Banford (Left Half/Left Wing)
James is a very talented player. I saw a lot
of good things in his game and some bad
things. But with some more experience in
outdoor and some confidents in his own
ability to carry the ball and pass with
strength and aggresses.
Josh Lucas (Goalkeeper)
At the start of the season Josh was thrown
into the deep end. But when saying that at
the start and then at the end of the year he
would have to be the best goalkeeper in that
grade. In the off season work on some skills
and you will be k or stay in goals and you’ll
be superb. Great season Josh
Rory Gibbs (Left/Right Half, Full Back)
Great defender for years to come. A great
hit on the boy “when he wants too” and text
book tackles. Rory had a great season with
all the pressure the defenders had this
season. Rory just has to work on staying
with he man. He will be a valid member of
any 13’s team next year.
Patrick Lawther (Centre Half/Centre
Forward /inner)
Patrick has a brilliant hit on him. He had a
great first year of hockey, a few suggestion
to Patrick would be to watch senior teams
such as Goundry Cup and watch how the
pass the ball to all players on the field and
how they can find players without hitting the
ball long. Hope to see you next year.
Cameron Harries (Right Half)
What can I say? The boys brilliant, text book
tackles great vision and runs himself into the
ground. Another thing with Cameron game
which is great is his second efforts to
retrieve a ball and going hard at 50/50 balls.
Good luck for next year.
Luke Jackaman (Fullback)
The tallest player in the team includes
coach. Him and Jake as fullback had a lot of
work this year. This boy can hit the ball
“When he wants too” and the long reach
helps him make great tackles on the
incoming forwards. A thing that will help
Luke’s is try and watch the senior fullback
and how they work together and read the
play, and work on your hitting over the
summer months.
Jesse Martin (Inner/Centre Half, Forward)
Jesse is a very skilful player with the
confidents to match. I think Jesse found it a
bit tough this year. Jesse has a good
understanding of the game of hockey and
that’s a great thing, so here a few things to
work on during the off season to become a
complete player, don’t bet everyone, stay in
position and the ball travels quicker than a
player does so use as many team mates as
you can to help score a goal. Well done this
year and good luck for Regionals.
Jake Lucas (Fullback)
A new grade for Jake this season and he
stepped up to the standard but can still
improve. Learnt a lot this season of
60
Inti Mason (Inner/Right Wing)
Inti is one of the quickest players in the team
and we saw glimpses of that this season.
Has some great skill on him and hit. In the
summer work on position, tackles and be
confident of running the ball into the D and
have a shot on goal. Well done to make it
into Como Hockey Academy.
Liam Smart (Inner/Wing /Halfback)
Liam is a very skilful player that can run all
day. His position on the field is great, can
read the play very well and listen to all
advice given to him. In the off season on
getting that hit right you’ll be a brilliant player
in years to come.
Great season champ!!
Jack Oliver (Left Wing)
A very skilful player and his confidents with
taking on defenders is great. We just didn’t
have anyone to work with him in the forward
line this year. Keep the skills up over the off
season and 2006 will be your year to score
heaps and heaps of goals
Denver Stove (Centre half/ Wing /Centre
Forward)
Denver has strength, intensity and
willingness to go and get the ball. First his
first season in hockey a lot of other players
can look at Denver’s work ethic and copy it.
Always at training when he could make it
and at games with a smile on his face. Love
to have Denver in another team of mine next
year.
Also some thanks to all the players that fill in over the season
-Rachel Harries
-Tim Geers
-Nick Tate
and also for Pat Hall, Mark Tate and Grant Martin for umpiring this year thanks a lot for your
help and support.
61
U13SW Boys
The 9 boys in this team had the chance of folding our team and spreading themselves out
among the three other under thirteen teams, but they voted to keep playing together, because
they enjoyed playing together. We had to rely on fill-ins from other teams to make up the
numbers each week, but it was terrific to be with group of guys who just had fun playing
Sam Bide
Great for strength and stability in the full back line. Sam tackled, stopped, and cleared many
attacking moves through the season. Sam developed well during the season, and gained more
and more confidence, especially with his new adult sized stick.
Alex Biggins
Alex is a very reliable half back and full back who fought and tackled back well. There were
many games where Alex was a very dominant player. Good at following his player and starting
many forward moves. Well played Alex.
Stephen Bunce
Stephen is an inside forward who can run and pass off well to the wings and other forwards. A
player who made position well to allow the passes through. A real team person who is always
willing to chase for the ball, and then go forward to help out.
Rhys Matthews
A very skilful player who could bamboozle most of the opposition players, and sometimes even
himself. Rhys played as an inner, but put in contributions all over the field. Great at coming back
to help the backs, and taking the ball on many spectacular solo runs. An essential player and
goal-getter for the team.
Tom Murray
Tom played very well as half back, full back, and also seemed to have a special talent when
playing as a goalie. Tom liked to keep us guessing and didn’t usually turn up at games until the
last minute, but always put in good contributions chasing down the other team.
Matthew Page
A great year put in by Matthew, playing like an experienced player in his first year at hockey.
Settled in well at right wing with many runs forward and also came back to help in defence when
needed. Showed real skill and maturity in his play.
Daniel Pervan
Daniel seems a real confidence player. He seems a very quiet person, who can really surprise
and play fantastically when the opportunity is there. Developed and improved dramatically
through the season. Well played Daniel.
James Pitcher
A good defender who played at full back, but demonstrated great skills as a goalie. A bit of a
funny dude who doesn’t mind putting his point of view. Don’t think much of his new hair colour
though. Great personality for the team.
Michael Wawryk
A good player at left wing. Some great runs down the wing throughout the season, but also
enthusiastic in doubling back to help in defence. Michael also changed to a larger hockey stick
during the season and found that he improved spectacularly. Good at thinking the game through
and getting into a good position on the field.
62
U13SE Boys
At the time of writing we still do not have a win this season – which has made some Saturdays a
bit glum. But we have improved and we are bunch of really great good looking guys.
With a team of 4 first time players and some weeks having to play short – we have struggled to
put our best plans in to action, but that has not stopped the boys from trying hard every game
and improving their skills throughout the year.
Here are the boys that did Melville proud 10am every Saturday at Ferndale.
game plan, and when we got it to Brendon
he would get it down the other end.
Alex Roberts – Our king hitter who could
play anywhere on the field and has a
preference for the one handed tackle.
Luke Giblett – Mr Effort. Luke gets the
award for best effort at training which he
continued every game day. Luke was our
right inner – and was one of our goal
scorers for the year – which is actually a
major achievement!
Ash Bartulovich – A solid defender. Ash is
a great half back in defence and attack.
Rowan Oliver – The coach’s daughter’s
favourite player! Rowan played centre
forward and inner and nearly scored before
being taken out by an opposition stick (or
was it his mum’s shoes?)
Julian Sorgiavanni – The Rock. Julian is
another first year player who I believe has a
natural talent for goal keeping. I think he will
remember one of his first saves – a raised
ball straight into his shoulder!
Conor Faulds – Mr Reliable. Conor’s work
at Full Back was sensational all year. He
stopped many enemy attacks.
James McNaught – Eager Beaver. James
had a delayed start to his first season
thanks to a broken arm. He has been an
keen learner this year and is showing a
preference for the forward line.
Aidan Faulds – The Apprentice. Aidan was
our No1 reserve player who played for us
most games after he played for his U11
team. Great stick work and worked well in
the forward line. Thank you sooooo much.
Nicholas Minuta – Our fourth first year
player who plays 110% every week and has
the killer instinct back in defence. A great full
back.
Tim Taylor – Motorhead. Tim could tell you
more about motor racing than anything else.
A first year player, Tim had a go at goalie
but felt better out on the field.
Peter Lewis – Marathon Man. Peter never
stops running. He has been a versatile
player in defence and his back tackling
saved us many times.
Brendon Butler – Right Wing. That’s right,
hit it to Brendan at right wing. That was our
A big thank you to the supportive parents, especially Graeme Roberts for umpiring. Also we had
some special help from some U11s who played for us just after they played their game – it was
greatly appreciated!
63
U11A Boys
Melville’s first time back in U11A’s after a few years, was a challenge, but one that the boys
took in their stride. They opted to train twice a week, with their skills improving out of sight
during the year. Even though we will finish around 5th place, we had games with the top teams
that we could have won, showing that the U11 Top Squad could mix it with the best.
The boys showed a professional attitude towards their training and pre-game drills on most
occasions. Well done guys, you can be proud of what you have achieved and the quality of
hockey you can now play.
Special thanks to Ben Meacock our Goundrey “Technical” Coach who inspired the boys to do
better and to work hard.
To our lovely manager “Major Jane” thankyou for your support and administrative efforts during
the season.
To our umpires, Pat Hall, Keith Baxter and Hans Geers, thanks heaps!!
To the parents who rocked up every week, provided fruit for the fruit roster and best player
selections, thankyou from all of us.
The U11 Top Squad members;
Callum Ashby
Whirlwind winger, Callum maintains his
position and is always committed to the ball.
Courageous in attack and defence. Great
season Callum.
Jake Gorman
Gallant goalie, Jake is a natural.
Courageous in defence of his goal, Jake
reads the play and reacts fearlessly.
Outstanding season Jake.
Graeme Baxter
Fantastic full back, providing a solid
defence. Graeme is always willing to take
advice and has shown consistent
improvement throughout the season. Good
one Graeme.
Ross Hall
Incredible inner, Ross has a genetically
acquired hockey brain. Ross works hard
every week, demonstrates advanced ball
skills and is a real team player. Good one
Ross.
Jeremy Everett
Wonderful winger, Jeremy is a reliable and
integral part of the team. His speed and ball
skills have contributed to a strong forward
line. Well done Jeremy.
Daniel Macphail
Reliable right half, Daniel has come on in
leaps and bounds since the Bunbury
carnival. New to under 11’s, Daniel always
gives 110% for the team. Well done Daniel.
Harry Mayer
Hard working half back, Harry has shown
skill and determination holding his own in
mid-field. Great effort Harry.
Mark Shelton
Dynamic defender, full back Mark has saved
the team on many occasions with solid
tackling and clearing the ball. His hard work
at training has paid off as we see him apply
those new skills to the game. Well done
Mark.
64
Nicholas Tate
Superb centre half, Nic covers so much
ground he appears to be in two places at
once! Hard working, with superb control of
the ball, Nic is the linchpin of both attack
and defence. Great season Nic.
Timothy Geers
Sensational centre forward, Tim blasted
through the opposition. His personal
commitment and hard work have lead to
increasing dominance of the play, making
Tim the most improved player. Huge effort
Tim.
Ryan Vickery
Roving Ryan, has played both inner and
wing. Ryan is a skilful player who has the
ability to create space and carry the ball
forward, setting up many of our goals. A
valuable member of the team. Good one
Ryan.
Brandon Coles
Heroic half back, Brandon turns his strong
defensive skills to the advantage of the
team, pushing the ball forward, creating
oppotunities and even scoring the odd goal.
Great season Brandon
All the best for U13’s in 2006 and may you dare to live your dream.
Mark Tate

U11A Girls
What a nice bunch of girls. They have blended together so well. They appear to enjoy each
others company by the amount of talking at training! The team as a whole has improved so
much this season, well done girls.
Grace Bowyer is a quiet achiever who fitted
into our forward line very well. She can play
a lot of positions and has greatly improved
over the season. We love having her in the
team.
Ashleigh McNess is a versatile player who
is focused and determined. A great asset to
the team with her courageous defensive
play. She can also have a shot on goal
even when playing left half!
Madeline Brockman definitely got stronger
as the season went on and really showed
promising signs. Has beautiful skills and
reads the play very well.
Holly Menegola has had another great year
scooting up the right wing. She uses her
strength and maturity to put the team in a
scoring position and works hard for every
minute she is on the field.
Aimee Clark in her first year in the 11s has
great potential as she is only year 4 but
plays with maturity. She seems to be happy
on the left side, particularly as inner.
Melville has a strong future with players like
Aimee in the club.
Abby Phillips was new to the team this
season and fitted in well. She tried many
different positions and always did her best.
She has great potential particularly on the
left side both as a forward and half back.
Briony Clark is a very strong player who
will go in and attack the ball. She is the
master of right half back
Ô and has
developed her skills, particularly the drag
this year.
Kirsten Silvey is ahead of her years as a
hockey player and we would be lost without
her classy stick work and hard hit at full
back. She is a real fighter and rarely lets
the opposition past her.
Rachel Clark has shown some great
hockey sense in many games this year.
She has had a great season. Well done
Rachel! Uses her strength to fight hard for
the ball. Plays her best at right inner.
Brittany Sims is our most improved player
of the season. She has blossomed and is
definitely in the thick of the play a lot more.
She has had a great season on the forward
line, playing wing and centre forward.
Nicola Cook has played in the back line
because of her reliability and ability to
intercept a pass. A very important player in
the team, who reads the opposition forwards
very well. Also, runs hard to cover for
teammates.
Louise Watson is always a focal point on
the forward line. She goes for amazing runs
dribbling the ball skillfully up the field and
tackles back relentlessly, often stealing the
ball from the opposition.
Thanks to Nick Menegola for doing a
stirling job as goalie for us when we were in
need!
Nakita Harmon is a wonderfully strong
center half back who we relied on heavily.
Every team wishes they had a Nakita but,
thank goodness sheÕs ours. She
distributes the ball beautifully, particularly for
our wings to run onto. A real thinker.
Sue Clark the coach who has brought it
altogether so well. Her patience with
chatting 11 year old girls is admired by all.
She has passed on a wealth of experience
to this lucky group of girls.
Rachel Harries was put in many different
positions and adapted to them so well,
including an impressive game as goalie.
She makes a coaches life easy. She is a
graceful and natural defensive player who
loves being in the backline.
THANKYOU SUE!

U11B Blue Girls
Coach :
Assistant Coach :
Team Manager :
Umpires :
Wayne Hudson & Nicola Ogden
Diane Nelson
Carol Eaton
Diane Nelson, Keith Harper
What a wonderful year it has been for our girls. With all of the team coming from either Grads
or Minkeys plus 3 players who had never played hockey before. They had never played on a
full size field & never played a short corner so their learning curve was steep. The consistency
of training by all of the team combined with a wonderful enthusiastic support from parents on
and off the field displayed what team and club spirit is all about.
The Team :
Cara Lawther (Fullback Wing)
Cara is another first year player and has
shown great improvement throughout the
season. She seems to have found a niche
for herself as a fullback. We look forward to
seeing you again next year.
Eleni Cregan (Fullback)
Eleni is a solid defender & a quiet achiever,
always keen to participate and performed
well. Eleni continued to improve throughout
the season.
Kate Eaton (Forward)
Kate started the year with great enthusiasm
and scored a few goals along the way. She
demonstrated a good understanding of the
game and played well in position.
Tayla Martin (Halfback)
Tayla consistently trains hard, plays hard &
always amongst the action on field. She is a
fast runner & moves easily from back to
front of field. Also the team training fashion
queen.
Maddy Harper (Halfback)
Maddy is a hard worker with heaps of
potential who gives everything she has to
the game. She follows the play well & easily
drops back to defend if needed.
India Nelson (Centre half)
India is the back bone of the team and plays
with wonderful enthusiasm and skill. She
consistently plays hard & well and is sure to
be a future champion.
Ella Hoppe ( Wing)
Ella is one of our first year players and in the
last few weeks has improved so much. Ella
is always keen to learn and loves training.
Meaghan Pritchard (Fullback)
Meaghan has become much more involved
& confident on the field as the year has
progressed. Keep up the good work.
Paige Hudson (Goalie)
Paige played the first 3 games with no pads
(ouch!) With some coaching (& special
training from coach Dad) she has become a
very solid keeper saving lots of goals. Well
done Paige – keep up the good work.
Ebony Stove (Inner)
Ebony is another star member of the team.
She never gives up and consistently plays
hard. Bonnie is a regular goal scorer & also
demonstrates great potential.
Sarah Ireland (Wing)
Sarah is another quiet achiever who has
come a long way with her hockey this year.
We look forward to seeing you again next
year.
Laura Weston (Inner)
Laura is a little champion and has a great
understanding of the game. She is always
close to the play. We hear she may replace
hockey with ballet next year. Don’t do it!
Your hockey team needs you.
67
U11B South Maroon Boys
We put together a team of mostly graduates from last year with a few new players. The team took a
while to settle into their positions and then started to play some patches of good team hockey with lots of
big hits, passing and great running. They managed to put together some great wins against tough
opposition and the top team. Our thanks go to Brianna Coleman, Andrew Hall and Connor Nagle for
filling in during the season.
Coaches: Greg Riley/Graeme Coleman/Kurt Gebauer
Umpires: Kurt Gebauer/Lisa Dymond
Manager: Sandra Vinci/Brett Vinci
Dion Batt
Dion played some great hockey at left half early
in the season but due to a knee injury he had to
retire. We hope to see him next season fit and
well.
Harry Love
Harry has huge potential as a fullback and a
huge hit to match. He saved the team many a
time in defence. Great effort, Harry.
Matthew Pashley
Matthew became our goalie after the first few
games and didn’t look back. He has a natural
ability to read the play and respond accordingly.
Congratulations on a great season, Matthew.
Jake Coleman
Jake is an enthusiastic player who shows great
hockey skills. He is always in the action at
centre forward, often with his head down in
some dangerous situations, much to the
spectators horrors. Jake will be a great player of
the future, well done.
Nick Riley
Up until Nick and his family moved to Christmas
Island mid way through the season, he was
having a great season at left inner, scoring some
well earned goals. We missed him in our
forward line and hope to see him back at the
club in the near future.
Lachlan Dymond
Lachlan has brought a lot of energy into the
team and did a great job. His skills at left inner
kept on improving over the season. Look
forward to seeing you next year Lachlan.
Joel Scott
Joel settled into fullback after a few games. He
became a very reliable defensive player who
was able to read the play well. Towards the end
of the season he was clearing the ball well deep
from defence.
Manon Gebauer
Manon came up from grads to help out one day
and stayed for the rest of the season. She was
a solid player at left half back and was not afraid
to get into the action and always played tight on
her opposition. She will be a great asset in
U11’s next year.
Matthew Taylor
A speedy little left winger who shows great
courage and determination. Matthew plays
great position hockey, scoring many of our goals
and has the potential to be a champion of the
future. Well done, Matthew.
Mathias Gebauer
Mathias played most of the season as right
inner. He was never afraid to tackle opposition
players and gave his best at all times. Most of
our attacking moves were a result of Mathias
chasing down the opposition and pushing us
forward.
Rhys Tucker
Rhys tried several positions at the beginning of
the season before slotting into right wing. He
played the position well, created some good
attacking moves and provided support in
defence.
Jack Hallam
Our ruck rover right half back, Jack was never
afraid to be in the action. He was a handy player
to have taking free hits in attack as they would
always reach their target. He was responsible
for setting up many of our attacking moves.
Zac Vinci
A fearless player who always gives 110% effort.
Zac has developed into a natural half back with
his “jack russell” attitude. He contributed to
many of the great goals we scored this season.
A great season, Zac.
68
U11B South White Boys
Although our position on the ladder may suggest otherwise, our team has had a successful and
enjoyable season. All the boys in the team should be extremely proud of the way they have developed
their individual and team skills as the season has progressed. At the start of the year, we were a team of
widely differing skill, experience and age levels. For several boys, this was only their first or second
season of hockey. We also had two team members who still qualified to play grads (and will not turn 9
until September!). Upon this foundation, the 2005 season was looking a little challenging. However, the
boys have applied themselves all season both at training and on the field. This has culminated in the
past few weeks with some very impressive game performances. At the time of writing, we have notched
up some very close draws (which could have easily been wins) against all but the top team and a win in
the “Melville Derby”. ALL opposition coaches have remarked to me at how well our team have improved
as the season has progressed. I think this is a credit to the boys and bodes well for next year.
Ali Ammar – Ali has played some solid games
at full-back and half-back, but saved his best
performances for when he played goalie. His
hitting has improved dramatically especially now
that he's losing the golf swing!
Richie Hughes – Richie has been a late but
welcome addition to our team. His efforts at
both left and right wings have been very
effective and added an extra dimension to our
forward line.
Aiden Bedford – Considering Aiden had never
played before this year, he has taken to hockey
really well. He has put in some great
performances at both half-back and full-back
and was very effective in covering the opposition
wings. His basic skills have improved
significantly as the season has progressed.
Travis Langlands – Our master right winger!
Travis showed the other members of the team
early on in the season of the importance of
playing in position. By staying out wide, Travis
provided us with many opportunities to use the
full width of the field which he was able to use
with great effect.
Aden Bocking – Although wanting to show his
qualities on the forward line, Aden has proved to
be a pillar of strength as a full-back. His worth in
defence was displayed numerous times and was
able to provide effective penetrating clearance
on many occassions.
Sam Mazzer – Sam started the season as
centre-forward, but quickly showed his worth as
centre-half. Sam has been extremely effective
at controlling the mid-field and feeding the ball to
our forward line and soon realised the
importance of using the full width of the ground.
Sam has become a key player and a very
competent centre-half.
Julian Bocking – Our second youngest player
proved to be a worthwhile contributor on the
forward line having come straight from minkey
and skipping grads. His tenaceous persistance
helped set up many moves into our attacking
zone. Julian was also willing to put the pads on
when required.
Jake Nelson – No-one wanted the ball more
than Jake! He was always prepared to go to the
ball and move it quickly into our attacking zone.
At centre-forward, Jake worked well with Jason
and Julian to give the forward line that extra
element of pace. Congratulations on being the
team's leading goal scorer!
Jason Broadbridge – Our youngest player and
a key part of our forward line. Jason has
developed a really good sense of the game and
the importance of his position and working with
other members of the forward line. Jason has
done really well to keep up and play competively
with much older players.
Raj Sembi – Raj put in some good efforts in
both the half-back and full-back lines during the
season. His sense of position play developed,
and was effective in covering opposition
wingers. Raj put in an absolute blinder during
one game when he kept goals. Well done Raj.
Ben Fosberry – To see Ben now compared to
the start of the season, you'd hardly think it was
the same boy! Ben's skills have improved
amazingly and his efforts on the left wing in the
latter part of the season have surprised
everyone. Well done!
Blake Thompson – Blake was our utility player.
He played almost everywhere from goalie to
wing! Blake has developed a sound
understanding and appreciation of the game and
his skills and ball control have improved
appreciably.
Many thanks to Jacqueline Mazzer who did a great job as manager, Noel Fosberry for his assistance at
training, Kevin Mazzer and Kim Langlands for umpiring and Sally Carbon for her assistance.

U11SE White Boys
The U11’s SE (White) also known as the “Black Knights” have really come a long way this
season. Each member of the team has contributed something special to all our games. A
special thanks to Alex (Manager), Andre and Garry who helped out every week umpiring and
training. The children’s development has been enormous – helped out by some specialist indoor
training (photo below)
only girl in our team who showed those boys
how it is done!
Paul Bajada
Energetic halfback who marked his wing as
well as overlapped with some exciting runs
down the wing. Paul is a very good tackler
and always seems to be in the thick of it.
Keep up the good work.
Brent Gauci
Another super effort. Brent has pulled off
some amazing tackles and traps at pivotal
times in the game. Brent really thinks about
his game and looks for the best pass. Well
done for a great year and always a happy
team member.
Clancy Brearley
Played one of his best games in goals
saving at least four certain goals. Clancy is
tenacious when the ball is in close and a
very good team player. Thanks Clancy for a
great year!
Shaun Gibbons
What a first year with the stick! Shaun has
an eye for the goals and a great feel for the
opposition around him. Shaun has scored
some amazing goals. Well done for all your
hard work.
Joshua Clements
Josh plays with the spirit of a Docker. Josh
is one of the only players in the team who
can keep the ball on the stick at all times
and never stops trying. Well done Josh
Cahill Hunt
I think we will call him the “drag man”. Cahill
has a left to right drag that will beat any
opposition defender. With a fantastic hit and
eye for the ball I see many goals in the
forward line next year. Great year, keep up
the hard work!
Georgia Everett
A little goal sneak who draws players out of
position. Georgia is a gutsy player often
surrounded by tall timber she never stops
going for the ball. Super year Georgia the

Ben Joseph
Ben enjoys it the most in forward line and
has a great eye. Ben has the ability to get
away from his player and make a great
through ball pass. Some great gaols too
Ben. Keep working hard and thanks for a
fantastic year.
Kieran Smyth
An absolute work horse who can play any
position and never stops running! Kieran
has developed one of the best in the “D”
goal saving tackles in the team. Well done
Kieran, you’re a valuable member of the
team. Great year!
David Oliver
David development has been huge. David
has the highest work ethic and can play all
over the field. David thrives on close in work
with excellent ball skills saving us deep in
defence many times. Well done for a great
year and being a great team member
Justin Coleman
Justin has got the tenacious tackle to a fine
art. Never giving up Justin gets the ball for
the team in difficult times. Justin is known
for his close marking and lays the ball off for
a quick cut-off pass. A Super year Justin!
Great effort!
Christopher Evans
Joined out team when we came up short
and fitted right in. Chris has developed his
hitting skills extremely well and now makes
some game wining 16 yard free’s. Chris
always works hard. Great work Chris.
Connor Noone
Connor has developed his hard running
game and for a first year player rates among
the best. Connor played one of the last
games of the season in goals with some of
the super winning saves. Well played

U11SE Maroon Boys
We had a pretty rocky start to the ’05 season with our original coach falling ill just before we
started. John stood up to take the reigns and has worked with the team, along with a handful of
parents to make the season fun and fruitful for the boys. The end of the ’05 hockey season has
seen the team coming together nicely. Effective passing through the forward line and a strong
solid defence has helped us win a few matches, and put up a good fight against the stronger
teams.
the goals makes him a strong forward and
budding champion in the future.
Daniel Mulcahy
Daniel has improved greatly this season. He
is a pleasure to have in the team as he
gives 100% at each game. He is a versatile
player that doesn’t mind moving around the
field, which makes him invaluable in the
team. Look forward to seeing you next
season Daniel!
Matthew Radalj
Matt is a strong player who has
determination and skill. He plays a great
defence player and has a good hard hit.
He’s quick thinking which allows him to
make passes to the forwards quickly and
effectively. Well done Matt!
Ryan Palmiero
Ryan is a team member who is a pleasure
to coach. He is courageous on the field and
continues to try even when the odds are
down. His skill, and direct hitting makes him
a fantastic defence player and I’ve no doubt
that he would be just as effective in the
forward line. Excellent effort Ryan
Daniel Pritchard
Daniel is never afraid of the action and
always backs his team mates up. He puts in
a huge amount of effort and is rewarded by
being known as a solid member of the team.
Looking forward to next season Daniel.
Michael Vass
Michael is another player that has improved
immensely in the ’05 season. He has been
put on the wing and holds his position well,
which in turn opens up the field of play. He
listens and responds to the coach and is a
great team member – see you next year
Michael!
Brock Nelson
Brock is solid and quick in the forward line.
He is a talented player that will only improve
as the years go by. You’re a great hockey
player Brock – keep it up!
Chris Biggins
Chris has impressed me with his direct and
effective passes to his forwards. He keeps
his eye on the ball, and where it’s heading.
This skill gives him a great strike rate of
getting the ball straight onto his team mates
stick!
Aiden Faulds
Aiden is a star in the forward line. He thinks
quickly and has fantastic ball skills. Both of
which are the key elements for a champion
player in the future – keep it up Aiden!
Hayden Ginbey
Hayden has played a very important role in
the forward line this season. He works
extremely well with his team mates and
passes freely and unselfishly to get the ball
through the defence. You’re a great team
player Hayden – well done!
Matthew Heuer
Matt is a skilful and solid hockey player. He
is as strong in defence as he is in a forward
position, which makes him a valuable team
member. Keep up the good work Matt!
Aaron Kabay
When Aaron plays in the position of full-back
you’re always confident that you’re defence
line will be solid! Your strength and courage
in the back line Aaron has played a major
influence in holding back the teams that
could have been stronger on the day.
Looking forward to seeing you next year!
Bryn Matthews
Bryn is a player that shows a huge amount
of courage and effort. He gives his best in
every game and puts in 100% at all times.
Through this determination he is showing
signs of becoming a great hockey player in
the future.
David Melling
David is a very skilful young player. He is
great in the forward line, and the
opposition’s defence always have a hard
time getting the ball off David. His hunger for
