Sunrise Bird Watching Experience Belize at daybreak with a bird
Coppola Resorts Presents...La Lancha Sunrise Bird Watching Experience Belize at daybreak with a bird watching adventure that will take you by canoe along the lakeshore and then onto the hiking trails. The birdlife along the shores and steep forest slopes above Lago Petén Itzá is excellent and your guide will help identify many species such as bluecrowned motmot, rufus-tailed jacamar, red-crowned ant tanager, and pale-billed woodpecker. Specialist Bird Watching We can arrange for a specialist birding guide to accompany you to a range of excellent birding habitats. Many of these are at Maya sites due to the diverse environment, well-maintained jungle trails and excellent elevated viewing atop pyramids. All tour pricing includes transport, expert birding guide, birding checklists, lunch and park fees. Swimming The second largest lake in Guatemala, Lago Petén Itzá is famous for its dramatic changes in color, shifting from cobalt blue to a green turquoise hue in an instant. Some in the local community believe the cool waters contain almost magical powers because of the powerful sense of rejuvenation experienced many people experience after swimming in the lake. Complimentary canoes are also available to our guests. La Lancha’s split-level pool is also a wonderful place to cool off after a trek to the Maya ruins of Tikal. Located just below the main lodge, the pool sits above the Casitas offering spectacular views over the lake. Canoeing Explore the beauty of Lago Petén Itzá at a leisurely pace by canoe. Two-person canoes are available complimentary to all our guests staying at La Lancha. Horseback Riding Beginning on a neighboring 70-acre farm adjacent to La Lancha, this guided horseback ride will take you through hilly pastoral land used for cattle ranching and into the lush tropical forests that hug the hillsides overlooking Lake Petén Itzá. Your guide will point out medicinal plants as you ride along and small overgrown Maya ruins bare witness of the region’s ancient inhabitants. Coppola Resorts Presents...La Lancha Lago Peten Itza and Flores Tour Explore the flora, fauna and culture of Lago Petén Itzá by boat. Departing from La Lancha’s private dock with captain and guide, stops en route to Flores include the lakeside communities of San Jose and Santa Barbara and a visit to a museum containing a number of ancient Maya artifacts. In the island town of Flores, you’ll be able to peruse the local arts and crafts shops along the narrow cobbled streets and visit the prominent Cathedral . Ixpanpajul Skyway by Boat Located across Lake Petén is the magnificent Ixpanpajul Skyway. The Skyway is a six suspension bridge complex that provides the opportunity to explore the different strata of the rainforest. The canopy walkway suspension bridges and trails require a moderate level of fitness as the trails are occasionally steep and humidity can be high under the forest canopy. There’s even a zip line for the adventurous. The return trip to La Lancha will include a short stop in Flores, allowing time to peruse the local arts and crafts shops along the narrow cobbled streets and visit the prominent Cathedral. Tour of Tikal Perhaps the most visually stunning and impressive of all Maya sites, Tikal’s five monolithic temples pierce the jungle canopy (Temple IV reaches a height of almost 230 feet) and ancient plazas, stelae and ball courts tell of a rich and powerful history when Tikal’s population reached almost 100,000. Today the site is recognized as one of the archeological wonders of the Americas. Its unspoiled jungle setting within the Tikal National Park makes it a paradise for birders, nature lovers and amateur archaeologists.
