Project Noel will Spread
Holiday Cheer on Dec.16th
Keystone’s Project Noel will
operate a ‘Toy Shop’ where preregistered parents will select gifts
for their children from birth to
age 14. The distribution will be
held in the West 7th Community
Center gym on Wednesday,
December 16th from 2:00-6:00 pm.
Families in need of holiday gifts
for their children should register
by calling Salvation Army Clearing
House at 651-746-3595 between
9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday
through Friday, beginning Nov. 9.
Please go to their website:
SalvationArmyNorth.org/toyshop
for specific dates and times. Be
prepared to provide birth dates and
Social Security numbers for each
person in your household when you
call. You must have a child aged
14 or younger living in your home
to register. Only those who have
registered with Salvation Army
Clearing House can receive toys
through Project Noel. Registered
participants will receive cards in
the mail telling you what time to
come on December 16th.
We welcome new toys, hats, mittens,
and scarves for children of all ages,
as well as monetary donations.
Many volunteers are needed for
Keystone’s Project Noel to provide
toys and gifts to approximately
700 children. Call Lois Tschida
at 651-699-1264 to find out how
you can be involved in a most
rewarding volunteer opportunity.
Chat over coffee and help a student!
A class of students at the University of St. Catherine needs your help for a class project.
This group of about 20 college students is studying good communication skills. As part of
their class, they would like to practice their conversational communication skills with you.
What’s involved?
First, enjoy coffee and cookies in one of two structured
large-group meetings at Merriam Park Community Center.
Friday, November 20, 11:05 – 11:55 a.m.
Second, be available for a follow-up meeting or two with an individual student or small
group of students, to be completed before Thanksgiving. You and your student(s) will
be free to choose any subjects of mutual interest to discuss, such as hobbies now or in
your earlier life, your experiences as a young person compared to theirs, your families,
educational experiences or any other topics that spark interest.
Your responsibility as a participant will be to attend one or both of the largegroup meetings and be willing to meet with and have additional conversations
with college-age students. Please note: you must be willing to share your contact
information – (either phone number or email address) so that the student
may contact you to set up the meetings.
Questions? To sign up or get more information,
call us at the Merriam Park Senior Center at 651-645-7424.

Americorps members “at bat” for Keystone’s Youth Program,
left to right, Kou Thao, Angelina Cantu and Paja Xiong.
National Service
Members in Action
We have three AmeriCorps members
dedicating a year of service with
Keystone Community Services.
Paja Xiong and Kou Thao are
AmeriCorps VISTAs, and Angelina
Cantu is an AmeriCorps Promise
Fellow.
Paja, the youth programs Evaluation
Specialist, is working on aligning
the three Keystone youth programs.
Her project includes improving
quality to ensure that program
goals are being met. This includes
integrating program evaluation tools
to ensure that outcomes are aligned
with logic models and youth goals,
and developing and implementing
a comprehensive evaluation plan.
Kou’s project involves growing
opportunities for youth to volunteer
with Keystone and supporting overall
volunteer opportunities within the
agency. Kou works together with
schools and community groups to
design service activities for youth
that are meaningful and engaging.
Angelina, as a Promise Fellow,
works with 6th-10th grade students
in the Community Kids after
school program to help them remain
connected to school and on track
to achieve high school graduation.
She collects and analyzes student
