What stories could those walls tell? A published history of Saint Margaret’s faith community at Eltham comprises three volumes. Dr Geoffrey Sandy has recently published Volume 3 covering the history from the end of WWII to 2015. He will discuss his research including the turbulent post-war period that witnessed the transformation of the Church of England at Eltham. Join local historian Lindsay Mann as he recounts the history of the Yan Yean Cemetery outside Whittlesea Township. Since its earliest burial in 1855, this historic and rural cemetery still serves the local community today. Jim Connor from the Eltham District Historical Society will talk about stories from these local papers – some funny, some sad, some informative and some…just about unbelievable! Researching Your House Melbourne Olympic Memories Ivanhoe Library Friday 21 October 1.30pm–2.30pm Ken Moses was a sports journalist and movie-maker who covered the 1956 Melbourne Olympics for The Argus newspaper. As we acknowledge the 60th anniversary, his daughter – family historian Vicki Court – will share his stories as well as her tips on keeping our family and local stories alive. Railway Hotels Watsonia Library Wednesday 19 October 2.00pm–3.00pm Scott Whitaker has compiled a history detailing all 185 Railway Hotels that have traded across Victoria since the 1850s. His book contains a wealth of local and family history information as well as the social and economic history of the state.
