The Fuzz Buzz Fall 2011 REGISTER NOW FOR ….. 2011 FALL JR TENNIS PROGRAMS and ADULT FALL/WINTER LEAGUES/DRILLS www.greenbaytenniscenter.com Call (920) 347-3080 SUMMER EVENTS Girls High School Pre Season Camp August 5-7th We kick started the girl’s high school tennis season by having a tennis camp to get them ready for practice. Pros Karen, Barry and Dan ran drills, talked strategies, and had a lot of fun. Junior Day Camp August 15th-19th Juniors enjoyed fine tuning their strokes as well as strength and agility drills mixed in. Afternoons were full of match play and competitive games each day. Greater Madison Open Trip On the weekend of July 15-17th, I took seven kids to compete in a USTA Sanctioned Tournament in Madison. The seven participants in the Greater Madison Junior Open were: Abby Gerbers, Holly Kuffel, Lauren Miketinac, Marissa Bieda, Brice Ruedinger, Diego Mendoza, and Will Schneider. During our stay in Madison, the kids and myself went to State Street (twice), played 36 holes of mini-golf, drove around Camp Randall Stadium, went swimming, and of course played lots of tennis. The kids played 20 matches altogether in Madison and performed quite well. The weekend was highlighted by Abby Gerbers winning the consolation bracket in the girls 16 and Under Singles Division. I was very impressed by the behavior of the children on and off the court. The eight of us shared many laughs, highlighted by Diego Mendoza’s Kung Fu Dance. It was a great weekend and I hope to travel with GBTC junior players to many more tournaments around the Midwest! We feel that trips like this one gives our kids exposure to tournament tennis, which is a huge benefit to their progression as players. I would like to thank the parents of the kids and the seven children that traveled with me. I look forward to more tournaments in the future! Thanks—Barry From Kim’s Desk….. We are so excited to get our 2nd indoor tennis season started! As you can see from this FuzzBuzz and our junior and adult tri-folds that are included with this mailing, GBTC has been very busy planning and organizing in preparation for this coming indoor season for both junior and adult players! We have a couple of changes for the 2011-2012 indoor season to share with you. EFFECTIVE September 6th, 2011 HOURS: Monday-Thursday 8am-10pm Friday-Sunday 8am-8pm RATES: NO membership price increase and 2011/2012 rates posted on adult flyer We are very excited to introduce the newest addition to our fulltime staff, Dan Gage. He will be the Director of our 10&Under Tennis Program. GBTC is excited to be offering this new teaching format which is a part of the USTA’s mission of developing and growing the sport of tennis in the U.S. This new philosophy of teaching is following the formula that the majority of youth sports have used for year-tailoring equipment and courts to a child’s size and age so that they develop skills and have fun right from the start. Youth baseball, soccer, basketball and other sports all offer modified gear, courts and fields to give kids confidence and enjoyment as they develop and mature. It has been decided by the USTA and ITA that tennis follow suit. 10&Under Tennis incorporates the QuickStart Tennis play format so that kids can learn, rally, play and compete in a way that is more fun. Patrick McEnroe was quoted, “Learning how to play tennis the right way, with the right strokes, and the proper technique, is beneficial for kids both now and into the future.” GBTC is very excited to be offering this teaching format and believes Dan will be perfect in his role here. For those of you that have not taken advantage of our air conditioned courts and stayed away this summer to play outside, we are anxious for your return. We have several new events, programs and leagues planned and can’t wait for the indoor season to begin. Hope you had a great summer and see you soon... Kim Meet Our New Pro!
