Marianne Cheesecake
A Slice of Heaven in High Heels
Traditional Burlesque Theatre with a Cinematic Twist
Marianne Cheesecake is an international burlesque performer with a name that
brings smiles and sudden cravings for dessert. A forbidden treat, she is not only
elegant eye candy but also the embodiment of provocation and humour. Born and
raised in Canada with origins from Hong Kong, Marianne Cheesecake is a special
delicacy that will delight the human senses.
Presenting the finest traditional burlesque theatre with a cinematic twist, Miss
Cheesecake creates memorable shows inspired by popular film characters from the
1920s-1950s. Starring as a Ziegfeld showgirl, Hollywood glamour puss, and Film
Noir detective, Marianne Cheesecake revives such iconic characters from the silver
screen, giving a nostalgic theatrical experience that instils excitement in the modern
day audience. Owing much of her work to the great legends themselves, she also
has a selection of specialty tribute acts dedicated to Josephine Baker, Charlie
Chaplin, and Anna May Wong.
Showcasing bite-sized recreations of silent films and old Hollywood classics, Miss
Cheesecake indulges the audience with her delectable style, glamorous vintage
wear, and entertaining storylines. A classically trained performer with over 15 years
of experience in theatre and creative movement, her choreography is both beautiful
and slick with moves that will tease, tantalise and most of all, entertain! With a fine
eye for detail, Miss Cheesecake collaborates with highly skilled costumiers and prop
makers world-wide to ensure all her shows stand alone as visual masterpieces.
Talented and skilled as a performer and theatre maker, Marianne Cheesecake has
collaborated with numerous clients on various projects, tailoring acts for themed
events and special occasions. For example, she re-created Josephine Baker's
scandalous banana dance and performed it at Wigmore Hall in honour of the late
Patrick O'Connor, the famous writer, critic and broadcaster who had also written a
biography on Josephine Baker. In 2011, Miss Cheesecake performed a special
1920s style show at a book launch to celebrate the English publication of the graphic
biography "Kiki de Montparnasse" by Catel & Bocquet. Also sought after as a
model, Miss Cheesecake acted as a muse for the Cat Woman inspired heroine "Hat
Woman", where she collaborated with illustrators from The Red Dress (Olivia
Chancellor and Ollie Bland) to create the character and B-movie style comic strip for
a designer hat shop in Hong Kong.
Starring in her own events, Marianne Cheesecake has produced a number of Asian
fusion cabaret shows including Shanghai Tea, an afternoon high tea event reviving
Shanghai's golden age of jazz and iniquity at CellarDoor, and a Chinese New Year
cabaret at Volupté Lounge, London's most decadent supper club. Her shows were
so well received in London that she went on to produce a monthly burlesque cabaret
evening at Café Coco, part of the Royal Oxford Hotel, in Oxford. The show runs
every last Saturday of the month but sells out quickly!
Based in London, the heart of live entertainment, Marianne Cheesecake performs
regularly in the UK and Europe. Gracing many well-known stages in London
including Bush Hall, Café de Paris, and Leicester Square Theatre, she has also
performed in prestigious private members clubs such as The Brompton Club, Crazy
Bear, and Home House. From celebrities to charities, Miss Cheesecake has been a
feature at GOK WAN'S LINGERIE LAUNCH PARTY and a distinguished performer
at a fundraising benefit for MIND.
In the UK, Marianne Cheesecake has entertained audiences at the HENLEY ROYAL
REGATTA, SOULWAX/2 MANY DJs TOUR, and MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
CHARITY BENEFIT. In addition, she has made several appearances in European
hot spots like Paris, Milan, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. Appearing at the most
exciting events, Miss Cheesecake has dazzled celebrities and media types at THE
KILLS AFTER-SHOW PARTY in Paris, and enchanted burlesque and cabaret
fanatics at the AMSTERDAM BURLESQUE FESTIVAL. Her reputation stretches
across the Atlantic and has brought her all the way to New York, Los Angeles, San
Francisco, Montreal, and back to her hometown, Toronto.
Marianne Cheesecake is listed regularly in Time Out and has been featured in the
UK press such as the Telegraph and Evening Standard. She has been published in
international magazines such as Playboy France and That's Shanghai, and has been
interviewed and published in MTV's Staying Alive Campaign.
Marianne Cheesecake is a full member of Equity and has her own public liability
insurance. She is also registered as self-employed. Details can be provided upon
request.

REVIEWS
Shanghai Tea:
"Her performances were utterly fantastic; influenced by Chinese theatre and cabaret,
her graceful movements were so tasteful I almost forgot I was watching a burlesque
show. … The concept of the afternoon was hers, a clear testament to her talent, wit
and ability to captivate two cultures and time eras in one fell swoop. "
- Hanna Randall, Remotegoat
One Life to Live - Patrick O'Connor Memorial Concert:
"The tassel wearer was performance artist Marianne Cheesecake, who specially
recreated Josephine Baker's scandalous Banana Dance for the occasion. With gold
stilettos and golden glitter on her legs and back, Cheesecake revived the exact
moves of Baker’s infamous piece d’ occasion, her banana waistband gently jiggling
to the sound of Sidney Bechet’s Jungle Drums. O’ Connor, who wrote a biography of
Baker, would have been thrilled with the authenticity, elegance, and slightly
subversive nature of the performance. "
- Petroc Trelawny, The Telegraph
TESTIMONIALS
"A delight to behold - Ms Cheesecake delivers exceptional performances which
dazzle the audience every time."
- Karen Farini, Co-Owner of Volupté Lounge
"It is always exhilarating to watch Marianne Cheesecake perform. With her many
acts, from the breathtakingly elegant to the cheeky and quirky. This is not the only
reason we love her so much at Dr. Sketchy - it is the beauty and stillness of her
poses that make her our dream life model.”
- Clare-Marie Willmer, Director of Dr. Sketchy London
"Marianne Cheesecake is a highly commendable person. Every lady who has
been taught by her, from the housewife to the aspiring burly dancer, has walked out
of her class with absolute belief in themselves."
- Sharon Kay, Director of Burlesque Baby
