Fossicker 09 June 2016 - Rotary Club of Bendigo
Happy as Larrie 7 June 2016
Tuesday’s meeting had everything! We had an inspiring guest speaker, money coming in, money going
out, laughter, seriousness, gratitude, a working microphone and a good crowd in.
It was wonderful to RECEIVE a cheque for $29,000 from the Easter Art Show Committee. What an amazing result this year. Congratulations
to Brian Figg and his wonderful committee and to all Rotarians who assisted over Easter It was also wonderful to GIVE a cheque for $10,000
to The Otis Foundation for furnishings for Kez’s Hideway, their newest retreat. We enjoyed hearing from Founder Andrew Barling about the
history and continual growth of Otis and we also welcomed General Manager of Otis, Rachel Mason. In making the presentation, I also
mentioned that I was presenting the cheque in honour of Bev Figg and Mary Fenton, two very special women to The Rotary Club of Bendigo.
These two inspiring women live with breast cancer every day. I visited Bev again today in rehab and she’s gradually getting stronger. It’s
fantastic to be able to enjoy such engaging conversations with her again. This weekend, I’m visiting Mary and Colin on their farm near
Kerang.
When I had to attend to a media photo on Tuesday, Erika took control of the
meeting when asked and did a superb job. Thanks Erika.
We also welcomed Peter Greaney who is a candidate for the Rotary International Peace &
Conflict Fellowship. We wish him well.
Our guest speaker was Gary Hardwick who was introduced by Andrew Hampton. Such an inspirational story about the meat industry.
Through his business and life experience, Gary articulated his approach to business and there were simple, yet profound, messages
sprinkled throughout his address to reinforce for all of us in business just how important are the areas of customer service, respect, quality
and people who believe in you.
“Bear” did a great job as Sergeant and we also had 3 perfect scores in football so Glen Muhlnickel had to go shopping for chocolates again.
Next week is my final meeting as President for the 2015/16 Rotary year with the Changeover Dinner taking place on Saturday 18th June. It
will be another great meeting on Tuesday with our Samoan Team making a presentation. We just may wear our tropical Samoan attire.
On Tuesday, Community Services Director, Rosalie Rogers is also organising for us to present another substantial cheque from our
fundraising this year.
This year, through our fundraising and sponsorships, we are distributing $85,000. The full details of all the recipients will be in the Annual
Report and I think it’s been great to be able to present a number of the cheques personally at meetings during the last few weeks.
Talking of the Annual Report, a huge thank you to Noel Hobley for the many hours put into the preparation of the report. It’s looking great
and, as I write this, is only a day or so away from the printer.
Enjoy your long weekend and good luck with your footy tipping.
Yours in Rotary

The Fossicker and a big thankyou to Tabitha
I would like to acknowledge the hard work that Tabitha does on putting together the Fossicker. It is not an easy task from my perspective. and from my previous attempts
the Fossicker has been sadly lacking in Tabitha's Absence. Having said that I think I might have improved this week. time will tell. I hope I haven't forgotten any article of
photo- I am a work in progress.
It really makes me appreciate Tabitha's input.
The Bendigo Youth Choir RCH Concert
