Integrity is following the example of Jesus, by
standing firm for what we believe, even when
it is hard. A person of integrity follows his or
her conscience, making choices which are
loving and life-giving.
Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable,
whatever is just,
Dear God,
whatever is pure,
I praise You for showing me what is right and wrong whatever is pleasing,

Give me courage to stand up for what I believe,

Another Successful Wes For Youth Hockey Tournament!!!!
Combined SHHS/WDCS Girls Team Captures Title
The Third annual “Wes For Youth” High School Hockey Tournament saw fourteen teams take part in
two days of competition on March 31 and April 1, 2015. Sacred Heart High School hosted the
tournament and the Wes For Youth Online volunteers provided information, food, photos, draws and
more to help spread the word for Youth Mental Health. Action took place in Walkerton, Teeswater and
Durham arenas after the January dates were snowed out.
In the girls division, Sacred Heart entered a Junior team comprised of grade nines and tens to give them
a taste of Varsity Hockey action and encourage them to try out next year. The girls represented
themselves very well through their four games. Four graduating students from Walkerton District
Community School joined the Sacred Heart Senior Crusaders to form the winning team in the girls
division. This team went undefeated, winning six games en route to the Gold Championship, including a
3-1 victory over Kincardine in the final. The SHHS Ladies also captured the title last year. Norwell won
the silver division over FE Madill and JDSS captured the Bronze division over the SHHS Juniors.

RELAY FOR LIFE
Sacred Hear High School is hosting Relay for Life on Friday May 29th., 2015.
Relay for Life is a 12-hour, non-competitive, fundraising walk to promote cancer awareness
and support cancer research. The event runs from 9am to 9pm. Sacred Heart is currently seeking
community volunteers to help throughout the day. Additionally, any cancer survivors or those battling
cancer are invited to attend, specifically for the survivors’ breakfast and the survivor lap.
Community members are welcome to participate in the event festivities after 4pm.
Interested volunteers and survivors should contact [email protected] for more details.
On Tuesday, April 21st, 43 SHHS students, accompanied by 11 Sacred
Heart Staff members, embarked on a trip to Muskoka Woods Resort in
Rosseau, Ontario for the second year in a row. We were later joined by
approximately 100 students from a number of our feeder elementary
schools for three days of activities, adventure and making connections.
Some of our Sacred Heart Students assisted Muskoka Woods’ staff in
running a variety of activities such as Zip Lining, Big Swinging and Rock
Climbing. Others were responsible for a group of elementary students,
supervising in their cabins at night and leading them between stations, meals and nightly large group
activities. Each morning was met with enthusiasm by our students and the last night of the trip
concluded with a large group dance party, a Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament, a team cheer
competition and a campfire sing-a-long. While this trip allowed our students many leadership
opportunities, staff also observed wonderful connections being made between staff, secondary and
elementary students alike. It is our hope that the transition into high school will be more comfortable
and welcoming for those incoming grade 8’s as a result of this excursion. Staff from Sacred Heart was
extremely impressed with the level of leadership, maturity and responsibility that our students
undertook while away over the 4 days. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Remers and Mr. Miller
for their excellent planning and coordination that made this such a success.
Crusader Productions at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton has been walking in the footsteps
of local Canadian history in preparation for their upcoming spring production of Innocence Lost: A Play
about Steven Truscott, by Beverly Cooper.
This fast paced drama follows the true story of Steven Truscott, a 14 year old boy from Clinton,
Ontario, who was wrongly accused and convicted of murdering and raping 12 year-old Lynne Harper.
Told through the perspective of a fictional schoolgirl, Sarah, the play explores the real opinions and divisions regarding the case that rocked Canada, and particularly Huron County in 1959. The action follows
Steven's fight for freedom from the time of his arrest and trial until his acquittal in 2007…a gripping, raw
and thought provoking show that is sure to leave audiences astounded.
Recently, our actors took their pursuit of authenticity to a new level when they visited key locations depicted in the play in the Clinton and Goderich area. Highlights of the day included Dyllan Mooser,
the actor playing Steven Truscott, being able to sit in the jail cell Truscott inhabited and the prisoner’s box
in the courtroom where the 14 year old had heard his death sentence proclaimed; a moving experience for
the young actor. Likewise, Kyle Vaughan, who plays the judge that condemned Truscott to death, said that
“standing at the judge’s bench and being able to look down into the prisoner’s box made the whole scene
vividly real”. For Steven Travale, a Grade 11 student at ‘The Heart’, the most impactful moment of the trip
was visiting the woods where Lynne was discovered. “I was overwhelmed by the thought that a young
girl, so young and innocent, could have experienced such a tragic death. It also brought a whole new
depth to the play for me with the realization that we have to bring the dual injustice to light in a powerful
and moving manner”. Director, Veronica Davidson, summed up the value of the trip by stating, that “our
students have grown in both their compassion and understanding of the social justice issues this play
exposes”. Of particular note is that actual footage, shot in the various locations of Goderich, Clinton and
the former RCAF base, will be used as part of the projected scenery for the play adding additional realism.
INNOCENCE LOST: A PLAY ABOUT STEVEN TRUSCOTT will hit the stage at Sacred Heart High School
on May 20th until May 23rd, 2015 with doors opening at 7:00pm and the production beginning at 7:30pm.
Admission prices are $15.00 for Adults and $10.00 for Students and Seniors. Tickets will go on sale at the
SHHS’s Main Office and Marlin Travel in Walkerton starting Monday, April 27th and can also be purchased
at the door. Seating is limited
