THE SPARTAN STAR http://images.chron.com/blogs/fanblogtexans/2010-nfl-draft-o.jpg May 2010, Volume 5, Issue 10 NFL Draft By Jalen Nichols The NFL draft is where NFL teams acquire new players from college. This year’s NFL draft took place on April 22, 2010, in the great Madison Square Garden in New York. The worst the team did the previous season, the better the pick they get in the draft. That is unless they happen to trade their pick for someone on another team. The draft was exiting. No one knew for sure who was going to pick whom. So it was very surprising to see what happened. I myself couldn’t wait for the draft. Football analysts were saying Sam Bradford was going to be first pick to the Rams; then Ndamukong Suh to the Lions, Gerald McCoy to the Buccaneers, Russell Okung to the Redskins, and Eric Berry to the Chiefs. Those predictions didn’t all come true. Gerald McCoy was third pick and went to the Bucs. If you didn’t watch this year’s draft, now that you know some stuff about it, you should watch it next year. It’s always really exciting and surprising. He is one of the best players in the NBA, and that is a fact. In the 08-09 basketball season, he was the leading scorer in the league. He is also my favorite basketball player. He is a 6’ 4’’ guard for the Miami Heat. He has one the skills challenge in all-star weekend two times in a row. He was drafted in the first round of the draft to the Detroit Pistons but got traded to Miami. In his college days he played for Marquette University. Marquette is a catholic school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was one of their best players ever. He is one of their leading scorers of all time. Growing up his favorite team was the Chicago Bulls. His favorite players growing up were Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. He was born and raised in Chicago. Growing up in Chicago was kind of rough. His mom was addicted to drugs growing up. Therefore, his grandma helped raise him. However, he grew up fine. He has had some hard times but thanks to his grandma, it was fine growing up in the rough town of Chicago. Now at the Miami Heat he is doing great. He has won a NBA championship already in his 2006 season with the future hall of famer Shaquille O’Neil. He plans on getting many more NBA championships in his basketball career. So I will continue to watch him become an awesome player. The Spartan Star is written by and for NMS students. Mahmoud Afifi led this archeological digging site. He doesn’t know when the mummy was dated, but it belonged to the Roman’s long rule in 31BC. It is unclear who them mummy is, but she looks like she is a wealthy and a member of high society. This mummy was covered with plaster and then decorated to resemble Roman dress and jewelry. It shows that she is wearing a tunic, headscarf, beaded necklace, bracelet, and shoes. The colored stones in the sarcophagus’s eyes look like she is awake. The archeologists are still trying to find out about who this woman was. Round 7 Overall pick: 251 Ht:6'0" Wt:197 lbs 40:4.39 secs Shuttle:4.31 Vertical:34 inches Is it just me or is it awesome that Brown is going to the NFL. I remember him playing at East and being the highlight of every game, whether he was playing WR, Safety, Linebacker, Cornerback or Running back he always showed the opposite team what was up. When Stevie went to Michigan they got him to play the safety position at that time he was ranked 7 in the nation as a safety and 2 in the state. Stevie and my step brother were good friends and I recall him coming over to the house and playing play station and him saying he was going to play in the NFL one day and look he is. Only 26 and still dominating everything, he is on the Subaru rally car team and killing it! He was only 15 when he graduated high school because he was home schooled and was the first person ever to do a double back flip on a dirt bike. DC, Red bull, Subaru, Smith optics, Ogio, Suzuki, alpine star, Nixon, Thor, and Pahr sponsor him. He is a cool person who’s always looking for the next biggest thrill. http://www.agoride.com/docs/img_contenu/000217/ travis_pastrana_Fmx_News_021677_g.jpg 6 Check it out: New Creatures Discovered! They could still detect it on radar. It was right in front of them. It had used an invisibility cloak. Their ship was much more powerful than the Death Star. Orange hit a random button and the Death Star’s invisibility cloak went down. Orange hit another button. The ship started charging the ultimate weapon. The Death Star could not hold that power hitting it. Orange fired the weapon. The Death Star exploded. Orange found the super computer after the explosion. It said the Earth was alive. It was in the Life Star. As they searched for the Life Star they, had a party. They celebrated with fireworks. They Found the Life Star and landed on it. The Life troopers explained they were on their side and saved the Earth. Everybody was ok. To be continued… Source explosion: http://blogs.sfweekly.com/ thesnitch/explosion.jpg 8 Back Then... Have You Noticed? By Emily Dial My friends and I were thinking the other day in resource about the old kid shows we watched when we were little. We believe that the shows have gone so downhill. We had Blues Clues with steve, now we have his cousin. And, there is the backyardigans, but back then we had power rangers. Things have changed since the late 90’s. Here is some of the shows that we watched. By Halie Mouser Have you noticed lately that people have gotten their haircut? Have you noticed people are really in to Air Jordan or Converse? What about skinny jeans and dark makeup. Or extremely baggy sweatpants? I watch people, not like a stalker but “people watch”. I see how some girls act when they are in a group then when they are by themselves. I don’t write anything down or follow them I just watch. Guys are the same way, different around friends but totally opposite alone. Its weird, the human mind. I believe that people think they can only be happy around friends but when they are by themselves its like they become depressed. I’m a person who is happy whenever mad or sad no matter who’s around. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Catdog Dexter’s lab Loony Toons Tom and Jerry Johny Bravo Sesame Street Roadrunner The Big Comfy Couch The Jetsons The Flinstone’s Max and Ruby Lazy Town Teletubbies Veggie Tales Zoboomafoo Dragon Tales Hey Arnold Rugrats Mighty Duck Barney and friends Arthur Land Before Time My Pet Protector By Player 1 and Player 2 My Pet Protector is the coolest adventure game to ever walk this earth. You start out by choosing what your character looks like, then, you can venture out into dungeons, rest at home, or do work. All of these have certain benefits, for example, is you go into a dungeon, you can loot cool weapons and armor, if you do work, you get money, but work and adventuring is hard work, so you can rest at home, just to lower your stress levels a bit. Every time you do something, a week passes, and with the new weeks, you age and with your birthdays, you get a birthday present. It just depends on how you live your life.
