Respectfully submitted by: Sheryl Caraway, Secretary Vette Chatter page 5 From the PREZ It seems like we were just saying Happy New Year and it is already March. The nice weather will be breaking around here very soon. In fact I snuck a ride this past weekend in the GS convertible on a very nice sunny Sunday afternoon. I could tell the car guys were also getting cabin fever as I saw a couple freshly polished Corvettes pull along side me at the red lights and give me the thumbs up. Which brings me to my next topic…..? Every time I go for a cruise it seems like I find something new I like about the Corvette. Could it be the Bluetooth voice activated phone response system, the covenant radio controls on the steering wheel, the electric top that you can retract into the trunk area in a matter of seconds? Maybe it is the performance of the LS3 engine boasting 436 HP @ 424 ft lb torque. Nope this time it was the launce control! I have had this Corvette for three years now and had never used the launch control….what is the matter with me? Well let me tell you it is AWSOME! If your Corvette is equipped with launce control you have got to use it. After a couple of hole shots and bonzi runs I had to head home. Got to the house backed into the shop took it out of competitive drive mode turned down the radio, put the top up and shut it down. Spent a little time cleaning it up while it cooled down, put the car cover on it so it is ready for the next sunny day or cool evening when the call of the cruise gypsy whispers again! Man if you notice I have started growing excessive hair and my ears start getting pointy call the Corvette exorcist I need help! Let’s get ready for a great Corvette season of cruises, dinners, weekend events, car shows and just plain fun! Russ Shepard This space was reserved for new Corvettes sold to TOGCC Members. It is my understanding that at least one members has a new car, Larry Meyers. I was not able to run Larry down for a photo. Check the April Newsletter for Larry and Debra’s new Corvette as well an any other. You might be able to tell I’m having trouble filling this space. Dennis Vette Chatter page 6 “Big Pine Lodge Dinner Run” You can tell there is a lot of pent up Cabin fever, when you can get 19 Corvette Fan/ members to get out in the pouring rain for a dinner run. That is just what happened on February 9. We met up at Peters Chevrolet, most in their pride and joy Corvettes and some in alternate vehicles. It was raining so hard that no one got out of their cars. About 4 PM we started out cross country via back roads staying in touch with walkie talkies. By about 5 PM we arrived at Big Pine Lodge near Karnack, TX. Herman called ahead to make reservations, and they were ready for us to all sit at one long table. If you are real hungry, can eat a lot, and take the over abundance home in a to go box, this is a great place to eat. When we came out of the restaurant, to our surprise there were six big piles of goo in the parking lot. It seems that these Corvettes do really melt in the rain. (Joke) Really, just a little soapy water and some loving care that we seem to like to do anyway the Corvettes were ready for the next event. I for one wouldn’t mind doing this again in the summer time, drop the top and get a little wind in the hair. Thanks John Pearce for setting this up trip. Great cars, great food, great friends, things sure could be worse. Thanks all for participating. Dennis Vette Chatter page 7 “Special Opportunity for TOGCC This is the second year that TOGCC had an invitation to participate in the CPS FOSTER YOUTH EVENT. The aging out Foster Youth group teamed up with DORS (Transition Center for any at risk youth) to make an event of interest to these young men. February 23 about 30 of these young men poured over our group of cars. Only the young men of age are included in these pictures. Of course you may recognize the old men. The hit of the Corvettes was the monster engine, cammed up, with open exhaust 1980 C3 of Wayne White. The organizers and the young men were very appreciative of the TOGCC members who took the time for this special occasion. Dennis Vette Chatter page 8 “Dinner Run to the Double C Steakhouse-Winnsboro” Saturday Feb. 23 was a full day for TOGCC. We started out with breakfast for those who could attend at the City Diner, followed by participation in the Foster Youth Event, and topping of the day with a dinner run to Double C Steakhouse at Winnsboro, TX. It was a beautiful day for a little road run cruise. We had 14 members able to make the trip to Winnsboro. I sure enjoy these diner runs. It combines a couple of things that bring pleasure to my life, taking a drive to anywhere in the Corvette and spending a little time with people that I enjoy being with.
