NEW! Surface and Bench Hold-Down Clamps! page 22 Leigh Super Jigs Great features — Exceptional Value! Leigh Super Jigs produce an extraordinary array of precision joinery — right out of the box! Like all Leigh jigs, with Super Jigs, you can easily rout many sizes of variably spaced Through and Half-blind dovetails as well as sliding dovetails. If fast production is what you need, for the first time on a Leigh jig, you can now rout the pins and tails of fixed spaced half-blind dovetails at the same time. And that’s not all. With the included Leigh e-Bush and the standard finger assembly, you can rout 5/16" and 5/8" box joints with precise adjustment for fit. Available in 12", 18" and 24" models, there is a Leigh Super Jig that’s just right for your shop and your budget. e-Bush Template Guidebush The amazing versatility of Leigh Super Jigs is due in part to the revolutionary new elliptical guidebush, the Leigh e-Bush (patent pending). This Leigh innovation makes easy work of finger joint fit adjustments in increments as small as .001". A simple twist of the e-Bush is all it takes for perfect fitting finger joints. The Leigh e-Bush is supplied as standard equipment with all Leigh Super Jigs. No other dovetail jig on the market today, or tomorrow, can match the incredible joint making capability of the Leigh D4R dovetail jig system. From the first ever fully adjustable dovetail jig in 1981 to today’s award winning D4R, Leigh has led the way in dovetail jig innovation. Variably spaced Through and Half-blind dovetails and Sliding dovetails are standard on all Leigh jigs. The split finger design of the D4R allows complete control of pin and tail sizing and spacing and the 1-1/2" board thickness allows that extra flexibility for larger projects. Add the F2 Finger Joint template and you can rout 9 sizes of perfectly fitted box joints. Multiple Mortise and Tenon joints are simple with the M2 attachment but there is more. Use the M2 to create massive half-blind joints in boards up to 1-1/2" thick and unique variably spaced jumbo box joints also in boards up to 1-1/2". And don’t forget Leigh’s unique Isoloc templates. Isoloc Templates produce some of the most extraordinary joinery available. Only the Leigh D4R does it all. The Leigh VRS Add the new VRS to a D4R and the package is simply unbeatable. The VRS provides full width router support and almost 100% dust and chip collection. No jig modifications are necessary. Just bolt it on and enjoy dust free routing and amazing router control. Through dovetail tails Through dovetail pins Infinitely Adjustable Guide Fingers 6 Half-blind dovetail tails Half-blind dovetail pins The heart of any Leigh Dovetail jig is the infinitely adjustable finger assembly. The unique split finger design of the D4R fingers gives you total control of pin width from tiny 1/4" through dovetail pins to huge pins for large case work. If you need a 2" wide pin, it’s no problem for the D4R, simply split the fingers to the desired width. Each half finger of the D4R slides easily along the finger bar and locks securely in the desired position. The infinitely adjustable fingers also ensure a half pin at each edge of the joint, regardless of board width. Since each pin guide and tail guide are on the same half finger, precise pin and tail alignment is guaranteed. Position each half finger or pairs of fingers in any position and tighten the finger locking screw. It’s simple and foolproof. The total flexibility of the D4R’s split fingers allows you to create a unique joint pattern that matches the design and scale of your project. Rugged One-Piece Jig Body Side Stop Front Side Stop Top Textured Clamping Surface The D4R jig body is machined from a massive one-piece extrusion of aircraft quality aluminum. Each jig body is CNC machined on the top and front to ensure perfectly square clamping surfaces. After machining, the jig body is anodized to prevent oxidation and provide a beautiful maintenance free finish. Perfect joint alignment is guaranteed with precisely machined in side stops. Accurate wood placement is automatic. Place the workpiece against the side stop, raise the workpiece up to the finger assembly and press the cam-action clamp. You are ready to rout. Like the front side stops, the top side stops are accurately machined in the one-piece extruded aluminum body. Each top side stop has an undercut that allows routing of rabbeted drawer fronts without the need to offset the tail board. The 24" top and front clamping surfaces have a machined in, textured, non marring finish. The textured pattern on the clamping surface allows work pieces to be held securely without excess pressure. Just place the work piece against the surface, secure it with the cam action clamp and rout with confidence. Cam Clamps Scales Cross Cut Fence Template Guidebush The Leigh D4R Jig comes with Cam-Action Speed-Clamps made from high tech glass-filled nylon, for years of trouble free service. These rugged easily adjustable clamps provide amazing holding power. Unlike blister producing torque knobs, thumb pressure is all you need. Simply set the graduated scales on the D4R finger assembly to the joint type and board thickness. Each scale is color coded and an icon on the scale clearly shows the part of the joint being routed. All scale settings for board thickness and fit are easily made and recorded. When required, the recorded settings can be quickly repeated. The ability to rout sliding dovetails is a standard feature on all Leigh dovetail jigs. The cross cut fence supplied with the D4R Jig allows the user to produce sliding dovetails in a variety of sizes. You can rout sliding dovetails with the dovetail bits and template guidebush included with every D4R Jig. Only two template guidebushes are required for all dovetail operations. The included 7/16" OD template guidebush is used for all half-blind joints and most through dovetail joints. Superior strength 8mm shank router bits are used with the 7/16" guidebush. A 5/8" OD template guidebush is required when routing large dovetails with 1/2" shank bits. Outstanding jig features like no other! Leigh Super Jigs Leigh Super Jigs are manufactured to the highest Leigh standards and incorporate a set of features not found on any other jig — at prices that represent exceptional value. Through dovetail tails Through dovetail pins Half-blind dovetail tails Half-blind dovetail pins One-Piece Adjustable Guide Fingers The unique one-piece guide fingers on all Super Jigs allow total freedom when designing every joint, regardless of board width. With total flexibility of pin spacing you are always assured of a half pin on each edge of the joint. Fixed template jigs simply don’t allow this. Pins and tails within the joint can be spaced and sized randomly or perfectly symmetrical to suit your project. Traditional good design calls for the smallest possible pin relative to board thickness and the one-piece fingers of Super jigs produce the smallest pin, every time. Each pin and tail are on the centre line of each finger. When a pin is positioned on one side of the finger assembly, the tail is always precisely positioned on the other side guaranteeing perfect joint alignment. It’s fast, its precise and it’s easy! Scales Clamping Front Side Stop and Spacer Top Side Stop Super Jig scales are simple to use. Each scale is clearly illustrated and the scales are color coded; green for half-blind dovetails and grey for through dovetails. Simply set the scale to the required joint type and board thickness. Very fine adjustments are easily made and all scale settings are recordable and repeatable. A 3M textured material is applied to the top and front clamping surfaces of all Super Jigs. Firm thumb pressure is all that is required to activate the strong glass-filled nylon speed clamps. Rout with confidence knowing work pieces are held firmly and will not move. Routing box joints and single pass halfblind dovetails requires one vertically clamped board to be offset. The unique front side stop and spacer (patent pending) allows the precise board offset for each joint. The spacer is also used to precisely space the guide fingers for 5/16" of 5/8" box joints. The bolt on top side stops on Super Jigs allow precise positioning of boards mounted on the top of the jig. The undercut on each top side stop means you can rout rabetted half-blind drawer fronts without the need to offset the tail board. The outside of each top side stop also acts as a dock for the Super Jig spacer. Cross Cut Fence Single Pass Dovetails Leigh e-Bush Finger (Box) Joints Sliding dovetails are easy on Super Jigs. Simply attach the included cross cut fence to the tail end of the guide fingers and you are ready to rout this very useful joint. The dovetail bits and template guidebush included with all Super jigs allow you to rout sliding dovetails right out of the box. If it’s fast production you want, with Super Jigs you can rout half-blind pin boards and tail boards at the same time! Use the included two-function spacer to offset the tail board and rout complete joints in one pass. And with Super Jigs, you are not limited to one bit. Select any of the five half-blind bits and rout joints in the depth that best suits your project. This Leigh invention (patent pending) is the secret to precisely fitted box joints. The barrel of the Leigh e-Bush is elliptical in shape, not round. Rotating the e-Bush in the router base actually changes the active “diameter” of the unique elliptical barrel allowing for very fine adjustments for fit (.001"). The e-Bush is included with all Super Jigs. With the standard dovetail finger assembly and the Leigh e-Bush, you can rout two sizes of finger joints (5/16" and 5/8") that actually fit. The Super Jig spacer is used to accurately position each guide finger of the joint and is also used to precisely offset the socket board. A simple twist of the Leigh e-Bush is all that is required for precise fit adjustment. Dust Free Leigh Jig routing is here! The revolutionary Leigh VRS Vacuum & Router Support (patent pending) provides almost 100% dust and chip collection as well as amazing full width router support. The VRS is a must for all Leigh dovetail jig owners. Here’s How It Works The VRS is mounted on brackets on the front of the jig and the router is supported by the finger assembly and the full width beam of the VRS. The vacuum chute rides under the router support beam. Control arms, attached to the vacuum chute, surround the router. These arms are adjustable to accommodate any router base. As the router moves across the joint, the vacuum chute glides effortlessly from side to side on nylon rollers. The chute is always in perfect position to catch the dust and chips thrown out by the router bit. Chips and sawdust are drawn into the vacuum chute and down through the vacuum hose. Each VRS comes complete with two adaptors to fit all popular vacuum hose sizes and the VRS can be used with a small shop vac or a large built in system. The VRS is easily attached without jig modification. Each VRS comes complete with all mounting hardware needed for any Leigh 24" D-Series jig, all Super Jigs or the Leigh D1600. The VRS is a full width router support. When the work piece has been routed on one side of the jig, the router can be effortlessly moved to the other side of the jig and parked while the work piece is being changed. There is no need to remove the router from the jig. Because the vacuum box is always in perfect position relative to the router bit, the dust and chips coming off of the router bit are automatically drawn into the chute and vacuum hose. • Control arms adjust to any router • No hoses to obstruct view • No jig modifications necessary • Models for all Leigh jigs • All mounting hardware included • Adapt to any hose size • Full width router support • Easy on Easy Off. Powerful rare earth magnets secure router support beam • Park the router when not in use • Vacuum box glides effortlessly under router support beam • Control arms position vacuum box The VRS will work with almost any shop vac or large vac system. Fixed base routers between 1-1/2 and 2-1/4 hp with 1/2" collets are recommended for most operations on Leigh dovetail jigs. Fixed base routers tend to be smaller and lighter and are easier to maneuver over the finger assembly. All dovetail and finger joint routing can be done with a fixed base router. Plunge routers are recommended for some Isoloc operations and are a must for routing mortises using the M2 Multiple Mortise and Tenon Attachment. Leigh adaptors and template guidebushes fit easily to most popular routers. Leigh e-Bush for Super Jigs Item e7 The revolutionary Leigh e-Bush puts absolute precision into every box joint routed on a Leigh Super Jig. What is so different? The barrel of the Leigh e-Bush is actually elliptical in shape, not round like conventional template guidebushes. How does the e-Bush work? A reference line on the e-Bush is indexed to a point scribed on the router base plate. As the e-Bush is rotated relative to the index mark, the active “diameter” of the barrel of the e-Bush increases or decreases. Each of the 10 increments on the e-Bush represents a .002" change in the width of a box joint pin or socket. Turning the e-Bush just half an increment changes the routed pin or tail by an incredible .001". The Leigh e-Bush is standard equipment with all Super Jigs. Selecting Template Guidebushes and Adaptors A template guidebush is required for all routing operations. An industry standard 7/16" OD guidebush (Leigh Item 711TP) is supplied with all D4R dovetail jigs and the Leigh e-Bush is included with all Super Jigs. If required, Leigh has a comprehensive assortment of guidebush adaptors to fit most common routers. Refer to the list below and the Template Guidebush System Selection Chart on the opposite page to select the correct parts for your router. The e-Bush is compatible with Leigh adaptors 702, 702R, 703, 704R, 705R, 706R and 710, and the Bosch RA1100 adaptor.
