TUESDAY 1 SEPTEMBER
Join local landscape photographer Paul Curtis for a photographic
discovery walk through the Tanks and Botanic Gardens and learn
how to better capture the natural environment through the lens
of your camera.
Brisbane-based, award-winning troupe CIRCA has been at the
frontier of new-circus since 2004, blurring the lines between
movement, dance and theatre. Now, in conjunction with the run
of CAIRNS FESTIVAL performances of their show “BEYOND” at
Cairns Civic Theatre the entire ensemble of circus artists will be
available at Tanks, for one day only, to share their skills with all.
The Cairns Botanic Gardens and Tanks
Arts Centre grounds offer such rich and
picturesque pickings for photographers,
especially in the morning light of
August and September. In these
sessions, you can explore the best-inbloom and the functional features of
your camera at the same time.
Paul Curtis has been photographing
FNQ landscapes and natural treasures
for over 30 years. Come and share
his enthusiasm for photographing the
tropical environment.

MONICA
TRAPAGA
JAZZ UP NORTH SERIES
SATURDAY 12 & SUNDAY 13 SEPTEMBER
FRIDAY 18 SEPTEMBER
Ten local artists have responded to a challenging brief by Cairns
Regional Council Water and Waste: take disused and discarded
objects and materials, and give them new meaning and new value
as sculptural works of art.
This accomplished jazz singer, actress, author and TV
celebrity brings her sassy brand of jazz to Tanks for a night
of sheer entertainment.
Coinciding with the 2015 Queensland
Waste Management Conference at
Tanks, this exhibition shows the talent
of local sculptors and challenges the
notion of waste.
Exhibiting artists include Lynette
Griffiths, Daniel Wallwork, Ian
Tunbridge, Pam Kusabs & Marcia Bird,
Hayley Gillespie, Caroline Mudge,
Ruby Bou, Lana McLean, Leonie Besley,
and Russell Geisel.
By the time Monica Trapaga became
a loveable face on ABC TV’s Play
School, she was already a veteran of
the glamorous world of jazz, cabaret
and swing. Having teamed up with
her brother, Ignatius Jones, for the
1940s-inspired show ‘Pardon Me Boys’,
Monica has shown that she knows all
about entertaining the grown-ups too!
