Brisbane-based, award-winning troupe CIRCA has been at the frontier of new-circus since 2004, blurring the lines between movement, dance and theatre. Now, in conjunction with the run of CAIRNS FESTIVAL performances of their show “BEYOND” at Cairns Civic Theatre the entire ensemble of circus artists will be available at Tanks, for one day only, to share their skills with all. The Cairns Botanic Gardens and Tanks Arts Centre grounds offer such rich and picturesque pickings for photographers, especially in the morning light of August and September. In these sessions, you can explore the best-inbloom and the functional features of your camera at the same time. Paul Curtis has been photographing FNQ landscapes and natural treasures for over 30 years. Come and share his enthusiasm for photographing the tropical environment. This particular crawl will run the gamut of the region’s art experience, from grass roots to established vendors – taking in student art at the Energy ENERGY is a showcase of visual art produced by school students from across Tropical North Queensland. Featuring works submitted to the state-wide, Qld Government 2015 Exhibition launch, Tanks Arts Centre, 14,600 Floating Dedications Exhibition at Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, Craig Walsh’s projection art at Cairns City Library, Kick Arts, Handmade Cans (local artists ware) + more surprises including a featured artist from Spotlight Cairns music development program. This accomplished jazz singer, actress, author and TV celebrity brings her sassy brand of jazz to Tanks for a night of sheer entertainment. Coinciding with the 2015 Queensland Waste Management Conference at Tanks, this exhibition shows the talent of local sculptors and challenges the notion of waste. Exhibiting artists include Lynette Griffiths, Daniel Wallwork, Ian Tunbridge, Pam Kusabs & Marcia Bird, Hayley Gillespie, Caroline Mudge, Ruby Bou, Lana McLean, Leonie Besley, and Russell Geisel. By the time Monica Trapaga became a loveable face on ABC TV’s Play School, she was already a veteran of the glamorous world of jazz, cabaret and swing. Having teamed up with her brother, Ignatius Jones, for the 1940s-inspired show ‘Pardon Me Boys’, Monica has shown that she knows all about entertaining the grown-ups too! Renowned for her brilliant and captivating live shows, Megan really brings her songs to life on stage and continues to impress her audiences with her performances. In 2014 Washington released her ARIA Top 5 album ´There There´ to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with accompanying international performances throughout Europe Everyone is invited to wander our leafy promenade, explore the site and take in the full complement of stallholders offering a blend of quality local art, craft, produce, vintage clothing, collectables and local natural health products.
