Si votre candidature est acceptée, votre festival figurera dans le Guide EFFE des Festivals et certaines des informations que vous aurez fournies seront publiées. Le bureau de l’EFFE peut demander la clarification de certaines informations fournies après la date de clôture des inscriptions. Détails de la candidature: Les candidatures doivent être déposées via le site de l’EFFE au plus tard minuit le 15 novembre 2014. Un droit d’inscription de 50 euros pour les festivals des Etats membres de l’UE sera demandé (règlement par carte bancaire) pour pouvoir finaliser le dépôt de candidature. Pour les festivals des Etats non membres de l’UE, un droit d’inscription de 100 euros sera demandé afin de couvrir en partie les besoins financiers des Hubs de festivals de l’EFFE dans ces Etats où les fonds du projet pilote ne peuvent être utilisés. The Pablo Casals Festival, founded in 1950 in Prades by the cellist Pablo Casals, is one of the oldest music festivals in Europe.

Communication: The Festival maintains a website with social networking sites, newsletters and magazines. It also produces bro chures featuring its activities (programmes, biographies of musicians and composers, etc.) and material designed to awaken the awareness
of the different sectors of the public: a strip cartoon book in 3 languages for children, a ‘Découverte Gallimard’ (a biography of Pablo Casals
in the range of popular culture books published by Gallimard) and a DVD about Casals, etc. plus a range of CDs of Festival concerts.
- Search for and cultivation of new audiences: for young people (3 scholastic tours a year, in collaboration with the teachers), lectures to various associations, among them Rotary-Clubs, wine appreciating societies, press (articles and advertisement), performances in
hospitals and specialized institutions.

2. Participation in the life of the region
The Association which manages the Festival is located in Prades at the foot of the Pyrenees in North Catalonia, an area which is part of the
Languedoc-Roussillon region. The world-famous Pablo Casals Festival is a significant element of the cultural and economic life of the area.
A potent symbol of the area, representative of its outstanding character
The pre-eminent Catalan cellist Pablo Casals, who came from El Vendrell in South Catalonia, took refuge in Prades in 1936. Here he founded in 1950 the Festival de Prades sharply illustrative of the bond between North and South Catalonia. As a further instance of strength of
this bond, the Pablo Casals Festival works in partnership with INELFE, the industrial giant responsible for the construction of underground
power lines between Spain and France.
Through its annual series of concerts at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and in many countries (in 2014: South Korea, USA, etc.),
the Festival carries the name of Prades, of Languedoc-Roussillon, of France and of Europe throughout the world.
A major factor in the local tourism
Every year 15 000 – 20 000 tourists, attracted by the some forty Festival events, pass through the area. Concerts given in the most beautiful buildings, as for example the Abbey of St-Michel de Cuxa, Serrabone, Marcevol, Villefranche – built by Vauban and registered on the
UNESCO World Heritage List - contribute to promote the architectural heritage of the Conflent area. The Festival’s annual communication
campaign and its frequently visited website enhance both its reputation and its visibility. The Festival cooperates closely with local cultural agencies in promoting the attractions of the Languedoc-Roussillon, as for example the Museums of Contemporary Art in Céret and Sérignan, as well as the Palais des Rois de Majorque in Perpignan and the top tourist attraction Saint-Guilhem le Désert (concerts organized
in partnership with the local government department).
An important contributor to the economy of the area
The income to the local economy of the Conflent area generated by tourists attending the annual Festival concerts (plus the summer
masterclasses, the composition competition, the ECMA session, the scholastic tours, the concerts in hospitals, etc.) amounts to 600 000
Euros annual. This sum is also generated through organization costs for the concerts, transport, rents and other accommodation charges.
Organizer, promoter and member of networks
The Association itself has 150 members but it maintains links to more than 10 000 supporters throughout Europe, who are kept aware
of the activities by emails and post. Many of them come regularly to the Festival. This network is in constant evolution and development.
The association has also constituted and devotes energetic management to a most dynamic endowment fund.
The Pablo Casals Festival is member of the Association France Festivals.
3. European and international commitment
Involvement of a large number of European musicians (other than French) in all the activities of the Festival:

All these meeting-points give rise to rich interchanges of repertoires and experiences with regard to standards of performance. In addition,
every year the Festival gives concerts in 2 or 3 countries outside Europe. In 2014 10 concerts were given in the USA and several in South
Korea.

A European and global masterclasses participation
Every year the 150 students who attend the masterclasses of the Pablo Casals Festival come from Europe and the entire world, as do the
trios and quartets coming to Prades for the sessions with ECMA, with which the Festival works in partnership.

Future projects of the Pablo Casals Festival
A European centre of excellence
It is the Association’s aim to create an internationally recognised centre of excellence for chamber music, based on the iconic figure of
Pablo Casals and on the existing Festival activities. As a point of national and international reference, the Pablo Casals Festival has the
potential to realise such a European beacon of excellence, creating not only a powerful cultural and economic engine but also maintaining
the values of musical creation and heritage, taking an active part in the further education of professional musicians and in awakening the
cultural awareness of new audiences. This ensemble of activities should be recognised among the pôles supérieurs (centres of excellence)
introduced by the Culture and Communication Ministry, in accordance with the European system came into effect following the ratification
of the Bologna Agreement.
A Pablo Casals House in Prades
This is a project set up by the Prades municipal council in tandem with the Festival. The aim is to create a visitor centre in the middle of
Prades. This building would contain:
- An exhibition space devoted to the Maestro Casals, great musician and humanist.
- A library with all the scores used by the Festival
- A research facility for sound archives. The Association has digitized 30 years of archives. This unique archive is in the process of
being developed in the form of DVDs and CDs, etc.
- An auditorium, the Festival offices, a shop and a hall for temporary exhibitions.
