SEASON PREVIEW
The Blue Darters are coming off of their deepest playoff run since 2008, making it all the way
to the Regional Championship game this past
February. Coach Wheeler hopes to continue the
turnaround this year: In spite of the loss of five
high-production graduates, Apopka benefits
from the leadership of seven returning players
and the addition of a talented group of underclassmen to make this team a playoff threat yet
again this season.

SEASON PREVIEW
After losing to Miami Senior at the buzzer in the
final four in 2013 and getting knocked off in regionals last year, the Grenadiers are as hungry as
ever for that state championship title. Returning
four of five starters in Jaylynn Harrison, Denise
Daniels, Dajsha Hall, and leading scorer Astaja
Tyghter, chemisty will drive this team. Adding to
that mix, Chelsea Johnson is coming back after
sitting out two seasons for two ACL tears and will
hopefully pick up where she left off on both ends
of the court. Freshman and sophomore substitutions will add depth as the season progresses.
The Grenadiers have a challenging schedule
throughout the season, hoping to prepare them
for those crucial games at the end of February.
This year’s team’s pressure defense and offensive
versatility will be fun and exciting to watch.

SEASON PREVIEW
After winning the school’s only basketball district
championship in 2013, the Titans fell short in 2014,
losing in the district semifinal and ending its threeyear streak of regional playoff appearances. Returning
four starters and three key contributors, this year’s
Titans are prepared to turn last year’s youth into this
year’s poise. First year head coach Robert Carmody is
hopeful about the team’s potential. As the season goes
on and the team gels together, Olympia looks to once
again compete for the district championship in hopes
of making the school’s longest playoff run to date.

SEASON PREVIEW
After posting a perfect district record during
last year’s regular season, the Wolves were upset
in the district semis by University to miss the
playoffs. But they have high hopes to return to
the Final Four under the leadership of seniors
Ashley Rodriguez (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Jessica
Font, bolstered by the front-court performance of
center Meagan Shanahan. These upperclassmen
are included in a total of six returning varsity
players who are joined by an unusually talented
freshman class, making a team that should sustain Coach Cross for the foreseeable future.

SEASON PREVIEW
After moving from Class 6A to 8A last year, West
Port missed the playoffs for the first time in 12
years. The Wolf Pack looks to get back into post
season play with seven returning players and seven newcomers. Sophomore point guard Tameria
Johnson and center Jalaysha Thomas will be the
driving force for the Wolf Pack along with senior
guard (and four-year starter) Kori Hanks and
freshmen guard India Lewis. The Wolf Pack is
well-balanced and will play a quick up-tempo
game all season.

The Wildcats, under new head coach Marimer
Varona and assistant coaches Waleska Abreu
and James Hampton, have high hopes for this
upcoming season. With 8 returning players and
the addition of young new talent, they are hoping to compete in a tough division, with the likes
of their returning starting backcourt along with
some veteran inside presence.

SEASON PREVIEW
Over the past two seasons, the Mustangs have
improved from a 7-19 record in 2013 to being
crowned 7A State Champions this past February.
Junior guard Kyla Allison lights up the scoreboard
with tremendous outside shooting, while senior
forwards Yolizma Cupidan and Ciara Cumbie
(Palm Beach Atlantic) keep the team’s uptempo
attack force balanced with clutch inside plays and
versatile athleticism. With just two seniors and a
host of talented underclassmen, Coach Butts has
built up a talent pool that should keep this program’s momentum strong for years to come.
