LINKING AGRICULTURE WITH Tagaytay City Manila Los Baños
Manila SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT Manila is the capital city of the Philippines. It is characterized by a wonderful array of Chinese, Spanish, American, and Japanese influences. More than just the center for trade, commerce, and banking, Manila is also filled with cultural and historical sites including Asian-influenced gardens located in Rizal Park and “Intramuros,” the 16th-century walled city built by Spanish conquistadors. International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS) The City of Tagaytay is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. It provides a scenic view of the Taal Volcano within Taal Lake (a huge caldera) and cool climate due to its high altitude, thus, earned its title as the second summer capital of the Philippines. Los Baños, Laguna The Nature and Science City of Los Baños lies on the northern slopes of the long dormant volcano Mount Makiling and is known among tourists for its hot spring resorts that dot the area. Mt. Makiling is a national forest reserve and a habitat to a huge floral and faunal diversity. Los Baños also hosts the University of the Philippines, along with other foreign and local and international research centers, such as the International Rice Research Institute, the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, the Philippine Rice Research Institute, and SEAMEO-SEARCA Printed Matter as 3rd Class Mail University of the Philippines Los Baños is dedicated to advancing knowledge and educating students in science, technology, agriculture, forestry, veterinary medicine and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the Filipinos and the humanity in the 21st century. After nineteen years of its existence, many remarkable scientific and technological progress and developments have widened each field of expertise that recognized the natural attributes of Southeast Asia. The developments in science and technology have been articulated in the yearly international congress held in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam. It is now timely that agricultural development in the region be maximized by linking with tourism. Hence the theme of the 2013 International ISSAAS Congress on LINKING AGRICULTURE WITH TOURISM: Meeting the Global Challenges of the Future is very appropriate in developing agriculture and related industries to improve the economy of the countries.
