Monsta pump is intended to be used with either a weather-proof cable connector or permanently connected to the fixed wiring in the main system by means of a plug and socket. The cores in the supply cable are coloured in accordance with the following code: Brown = Live, Blue = Neutral, Green/Yellow = Earth. The electric cable is permanently connected and sealed in the motor body. If the supply cable is damaged the pump must not be used. INSTALLATION For permanent installations to the mains supply, it is necessary to conform to the regulations of the local electricity authority and this would include the use of a metal or plastic conduit to protect the cable. Attention has been drawn to the fact that special rules may exist concerning the installation of your pond Monsta (i.e. local building regulations). Blagdon Pond Monsta must not be used in swimming pools, or areas where people are in contact with the water. Always disconnect the mains electricity supply whilst the equipment is being installed, repaired or maintained. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt about wiring this product to the main supply. Do not use the supply cable to lift the Monsta pump as this may cause damage. IMPORTANT: Please note all electrical work on garden lighting and power installations must comply with part P of the building regulations. Failure to comply is a criminal offence. If the installation of this product is not carried out by a competent electrician who is registered under the Part P self-certification scheme then you must notify the local building control department before work begins. For further information and guidance on this matter and other electrical installations in your home that might be covered by the relevant legislation, contact your local authorities building control department. WATERGARDEN CIRCUIT BREAKER We recommend use of a Blagdon Powersafe Water garden Circuit Breaker code 1040181, ask your retailer for details. ! Warning - The Monsta pump is provided with a thermal cut out that temporarily switches off the pump in case of overheating and the pump may automatically restart. ! Never run the Monsta out of water for prolonged periods as this may cause irreparable damage. RADIO FREQUENCY RECEIVER 1. NO LIGHTS - Mains plug is not switched on or plug fuse/RCD has activated. 2. RED LIGHT - Receiver is on stand-by. Power is received. Handle lever not compressed. 3. GREEN LIGHT - Power on. Monsta motor receiving power. Handle lever compressed. An RCD is a legal requirement for outdoor power supplies. WARNING: NOT TO BE USED BY CHILDREN WARNING - MONSTA PUMP MUST BE EARTHED A Residual Current Device (RCD), also know as the Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB), with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA must be installed in the supply circuit. A means of disconnection from the supply having a contact separation of at least 3mm in all poles must be incorporated in the fixed wiring. 6 SAFETY CAP SHOULD BE REPLACED WHEN PLUG CONNECTOR IS REMOVED POWER IN FROM PLUG PLUG IN TURN TO SEAL 2. (see diagram below) NOTE: Remove large objects over 32mm in size with a net to prevent excessive blocking of Pondmonsta during operation. It is normal for Pondmonsta to block and require clearing occasionally. Pond Monsta has been designed so that this requires a minimum of time and effort (see ‘Clearing Blockages’ page 10) 1 2 11 8 9 3 7 Plug in RCD (not supplied). 2. Plug in fitted three pin RF receiver plug. 3. Plug in RF receiver connecter plug. 4. Connect hose to outlet hosetail firmly (a hose clip may be used to secure not supplied) 5. Choose Collector recycling option / position for Collector outlet returns. (see page 10) 6. Place hose in Collector locater 7. Connect hose and cable to hose cable clips. Adjust so that the hose is level with the water surface when the Monsta is fully submerged. 8. Adjust pole by twisting and locking to a comfortable height. 9. Switch on mains supply, standby light will show red on the RF receiver. 10. Submerge Monsta fully until air stops releasing from air outlet (the Monsta will not pump effectively until all air is released) 6 14 12 1. 11. Compress safety button and squeeze lever to activate pumping 5 10 12. Waste will now start to flow into the Collector, it is recommended that the higher shelf areas are cleaned first. Always move the Pond Monsta in a slow back and forth action to prevent disturbing the sediment and waste. 13. Secondly clean the base of the pond, again in a slow back and forth motion using the clear hose as a visual guide to indicate which areas have been cleared. 4 14. When the Collector basket is full / overflowing, turn of the Pondmonsta by releasing the handle and remove the collected debris to waste or compost. 13 HANDLE ACTIVATION & BATTERY INSTALLATION HANDLE REMOTE CONTROL BATTERY LOCATION MINIMUM START DEPTH Water level MUST submerge the Air Outlet before starting Monsta. WATER OUT 10 3 1 11 Monsta_Instructions_AW.qxd 12/5/09 12:23 Page 15 MAINTENANCE REMOVING AND FITTING IMPELLER TROUBLESHOOTING POOR FLOW FROM THE POND MONSTA • Follow clearing blockages procedure page 10 Check the hose attachment, the motor housing and the brush head inlet for blockages like large clumps of blanket weed, large stones, sticks or any other large pond debris. • If the impeller has been changed, check it has been correctly fitted. (see page 12) • Ensure the outlet hose is not kinked or crushed. • Only use smooth bore hose as hose with edges on the inside will restrict flow massively. RELEASE • Check all air is released from air outlet. NO POWER TO THE MOTOR LOCK ! ALWAYS ENSURE THE MAINS PLUG IS DISCONNECTED BEFORE OPENING IMPELLER COVER. • The LED is glowing red on the RF receiver but there is no action when activating the handle lever? Check the batteries are correctly fitted in the remote control handle and the handle hasn’t got any water inside the casing. If so place inside a warm area to let the water evaporate. If the Monsta has been in used for prolonged periods, the battery will need replacing. • The Led’s on the receiver are not glowing when plugged into the mains. Also check your Plug in RCD and house fuse box RCD. Check fuse in three pin plug if so replace and test again. • The Led’s are glowing red on the receiver and turning green when the trigger on the handle is compressed but still no action from the motor? This may mean the motor has overheated, the motor will reset when cooled after 15 minutes. Step 1. Remove impeller cover. Step 2. Place flat-head screwdriver into centre of the impeller. Step 3. Using your other hand, twist the impeller anti-clockwise. Step 4. After twisting the impeller six times anti-clockwise, the impeller will be free from the shaft. Step 5. Select small, medium or large impeller. Step 6. Place impeller onto shaft with the grooves facing towards you. Step 7. Turn the impeller clockwise six times and it will be fitted correctly. IMPORTANT FAULTS - PROBLEMS PROCEDURE Before returning your Pond Monsta to your dealer or contacting our Consumer Advice Department, please carry out the following steps. This will solve most problems quickly and easily. 1. Ensure electrical procedure has been followed fully. Check fuse and any cable connectors/ switch boxes. NOTE: If the pump has overheated the thermal overload will temporarily switch off the pump. 2. (a) Follow ‘Clearing Blockages’ on page 10. (b) Follow ‘Troubleshooting’ guide above. 3. Return pump to point of purchase for inspection and advice (You may need proof of purchase).
