Study Plan
UNIVERSITY OF PARDUBICE
The University of Pardubice has been extending a more than sixty year long tradition of
higher education in the City of Pardubice. The Chemical College, later known for 40 years
as the Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in Pardubice in 1950 to answer the
needs of the East Bohemia region that had a highly developed chemical industry, yet lacked
profeSionally trained specialists in this field.
After the year 1990, the character of the Institute changed. New faculties were founded
offering a wide range of study programs, not only chemistry-related. Since 1994, the new
name – the University of Pardubice – has been used.
The University of Pardubice is now one of the 26 public higher education institutions in the
Czech Republic, and the only university in the Pardubice region. As far as the number of
students is concerned, the University, with its 10,5 thousand students, belongs to the
middle-sized universities in the Czech Republic.
The University consists of seven faculties:
Faculty of Chemical Technology,
Faculty of Economics and Administration,
Jan Perner Transport Faculty,
Faculty of Arts and Philosophy,
Faculty of Restoration,
Faculty of Health Studies,
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics

The University offers a Ing.
total Petr
of sixty
study programs with more than one hundred and
thirty study specializations. All are designed in accordance with the Bologna Declaration
and modern trends in higher education. Most 3-year Bachelor´s study courses offer 2-year
follow-up Master´s programs, and most succeSful graduates can continue their studies in
several Doctoral degree programs at six faculties. Some study programs are also offered as
part-time studies.
Apart from teaching, the University of Pardubice is also renowned for its numerous
scientific and research activities which contribute to an excellent national and international
reputation. The numerous of specialized departments and other organizations, institutions
and aSociations which have been operating at the university contribute to this fact.
The Miroslav Jureček Foundation and the Jan Perner Foundation play an important role
and support educational and research activities of the University.
Individual University departments participate in international programs, take part in
student and staff exchange programs, and share experience in many projects, organize
prestigious international seSions, workshops, conferences and seminars.
There is much more to university life than studying. Student Council activities and the
students themselves cover different areas of student life: culture, sports and club activities.
2
The modern facilities of the University campus, near the centre of a city with a population
of one hundred thousand, create ideal conditions for the all-around development of young
people. Pleasant surroundings and many sports and cultural life opportunities, in
combination with quality and demanding study programs, are comparable to those of
leading European universities at the dawn of the third millennium.
As a member of the European University ASociation, the University has become an active
part of the European and world higher education and research area.

Faculty of Economics and Administration
In 1991, the Faculty of Public Administration was established, later renamed the Faculty of
Economics and Administration. It reflected the need of profeSionally trained specialists for
local state and municipal authorities, and also managers of private companies operating in
busineS, industry and services. The students are trained in economics, finance,
management and marketing, focusing especially on public administration and economy.
They are introduced to informatics, information systems, information technologies and
statistics, with strong attention paid to foreign languages, regional administration and the
European Union iSues.
The Faculty of Economics and Administration combines education, practical training and
research activities. This system of education provides the students with the latest research
findings within their specialization. The academic staff integrates the latest research results
into lectures with the aim to prepare the students for their profeSional careers.

Study Plans
Standard study plans are represented in compliance with a granted accreditation, a course
of subjects complying with the sequences in which these subjects are supposed to be
taken. On its basis, students create their own study plans.
Credit system conformed to the Bologna declaration is being applied to the whole
University of Pardubice within Bachelor´s and Master´s study programs, rarely within some
Doctoral study programs.
Standard study requirement is 60 credit points per one academic year, generally 30 credit
points per one semester. It is the total of the credit points granted within the compulsory
courses, compulsory options, and optional courses.
ECTS credits represent the numerical value asigned to every subject and reflect the study
burden laid on a student. It represents an average time demand of all activities leading to a
succesful completion of the subject.
Further information is given in the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of
Pardubice.
Relevant study information is available at the internet addreS portal.upce.cz in the IS STAG
agenda (evidence of study programs, specializations, study plans, and subjects as well as
the evidence of timetables and rooms can be found at this addreS). Student use the IS
STAG to register his/her exams, he or she can also find his/her results of the claSification,
study materials, as well as further information published by lecturers.
Communication with students is further enabled by automatically created address for
e-mail correspondence in the form [email protected] or name.surname@
student.upce.cz.
