Havis is pleased to provide these set-up instructions to aid in the proper instillation of its
Universal Laptop Mount (UT-X-SD). Havis recommends that the UT-X-SD be installed with all
four of the Side Hold-down Lugs in place, spaced as far apart as practical to ensure the safest
laptop mount configuration.
Havis also recommends that the UT-X-SD be installed with its Front and Rear Fences in place
and that all torque settings be followed (see torque setting references inside Set-up Instructions).
Currently, all torque adjusted screws will utilize the T-25 pin-in torx bit and should be installed
with a calibrated torque wrench set to 22 inch-pounds of torque, +/- 10 %.

Reconfiguring the Universal Laptop Mount
Hardware Kit
NOTE
The hardware kit should include:
It is important that the UT-X-SD be set with the Side Trays and Rear Tray
fully extended before beginning installation. Follow the steps below
to reconfigure the UT-X-SD to its original settings.

Completely close the Side Trays
by pressing them inward until
a “click” is heard.

Pull both Side Trays outward
as far as they will go.

Preparing the Laptop
Retighten the screws to
22 inch-pounds of torque, +/- 10 %.
Make sure you:
• Turn the power OFF.
• Remove any cords or peripherals
that are connected to the laptop.

Make sure both of the Rear Tray
Adjustment Screws are as far
rearward as possible. See FIG. N.
You can adjust the screw by loosening
it and pulling on the Rear Tray.
Retighten the screws to
22 inch-pounds of torque, +/- 10 %.

Leaving devices such as USB flash drives, cords, or air cards connected to the
computer during installation may cause damage to the device and to the laptop.

Blocked CD/DVD Drive
If the laptop will need to run a CD/DVD you
simply unlatch the Side Trays by pulling the
latch forward until you hear a click and then
tilt the laptop on an angle until you have
access to the CD/DVD drive.
Return laptop to secure stowed position by
closing the Side Trays.

Step 3: Adjusting and Positioning Side Hold-down Lugs
Step 1 : Make Sure the Laptop Fits
Turn the laptop on its side to adjust
the Side Hold-down Lugs.
Place the laptop in the UT-X-SD.
Carefully open the laptop screen.
Loosen the screws and adjust the Lug
until it makes firm contact with the
Laptop deck and will hold the Laptop
in place (see FIG. I).
Close the Side Trays by pressing
inward (FIG. D).
Repeat this step for the remaining
Hold-down Lug.

Turn the entire unit right sideup
and test the Hold-down Lugs to
ensure that they are making contact
with the laptop deck.

Step 4: Custom Configurations
Check to see that the Side Hold-down
Lugs fit over the laptop as in FIG. E.
There should be a slight gap between
the top of the Side Hold-down Lugs
and the laptop deck, this will be
adjusted in Step 3.
If any of the Side Hold-down Lugs
or Rear Fences are covering ports,
loosen the screw and gently slide
the Lug or fence along its slot as
shown in FIG. J.
If adjustments are needed for either
of the Front Fences, loosen and tighten
the screws with a 3/8” wrench.

Retighten the screws to
22 inch-pounds, +/- 10%.
NOTE
If adjusting the Side Hold-down Lugs or Front/Rear Fences does not resolve the interference
with ports or switches DO NOT REMOVE THEM. Contact Havis at 1-800-524-9900

the Side Trays are fully closed (press Side Trays together until click is heard).

! CAUTION
Use extreme caution when placing the laptop upside-down to adjust the back.
Make sure that you do not damage the laptop screen.
With the laptop secured in the UT-X-SD open
the laptop screen. Carefully place the unit
upside-down on your lap as in FIG. F.
Make sure that the laptop is
completely forward and touching the
two Front Fences as in FIG. G.
Laptop should be flush
with Front Fences.

Loosen the screws (MARKED A in FIG. G) approximately one full turn.
With the laptop centered in the UT-X-SD, slide both Side Trays at the same time
inward until they touch the sides of the laptop as in FIG. G.
Retighten the screws (MARKED A in FIG. G). Torque to 22 inch-pounds, +/- 10%.
Loosen screws and push Rear Tray
in until flush against laptop.

Hold the laptop fully forward against the Front Fences,
loosen screws (MARKED B in FIG. H).
Slide the Rear Tray up against the back of the laptop.
Once snug, retighten both adjustment screws to 22 inch-pounds, +/- 10%.

the Side Hold-down Lugs.
Place the laptop in the UT-X-SD.
Carefully open the laptop screen.
Loosen the screws and adjust the Lug
until it makes firm contact with the
Laptop deck and will hold the Laptop
in place (see FIG. I).
Close the Side Trays by pressing
inward (FIG. D).
Repeat this step for the remaining
Hold-down Lug.
