At 5:59 p.m. Santa and Lite 98 will count down the seconds to light the downtown office buildings AND James Center’s Great Tree and Reindeer! Experience the magic of the holidays with two blocks of family entertainment. James Center is very excited to present The Kings of Swing as our featured performance. Shelly Perkins of Lite 98 is returning as Snow Queen! Our entertainment includes: The Greater Richmond Children’s Choir, The American Youth Harp Ensemble, Characters from the Nutcracker Cast, Characters from 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Snow Bear, the VCU Trombone Choir, Singer Patsy Butler, the Virginia Piedmont & Central HO Model Railroad Club and much more. Our Kids Stage in front of One James Center has a new band this year! We welcome Big Bang Boom! to perform for the entire hour! For a second year, James Center is bringing awareness to Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). SCAN will be at Grand Illumination collecting toys for over 300 Richmond area children. During the holiday season, these children will be coming to James Center so their parents or guardians can “shop” for gifts. From Grand Illumination night until December 16, please bring unwrapped gifts for kids ages 0-17 to the collection sleigh located in Three James Center Lobby. The Grand Illumination happens rain or shine. Come down and watch the season begin! The exhibit opens on the night of Grand Illumination, Friday, December 6 and will run through Friday, December 27 (closed on Christmas Day). The exhibit will be open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To ensure adequate staffing, tenants who plan to visit the Exhibit during their holiday parties should notify the Railroaders in advance. A highlight of the Richmond Philharmonic’s season will be the Family Holiday Concert in James Center Atrium. Holiday carols and songs as well as seasonal light classics are sure to entertain the entire family. SCAN’s Santa Shop allows parents to “shop” for their children at no cost for the holidays. We need help collecting gifts for children 0-17. Last year, we served over 200 children during this event and made the holidays special for at-risk children in Richmond. This is a great opportunity for individuals, offices, organizations or anyone to get involved! Gifts can be dropped off during the Grand Illumination in James Center Atrium on December 6 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. The toy drive will remain open through December 16.
