May 3, 1970 Administrator Message A wish for my fellow Muskego Moose members: My wish is that if you are a new member, you will be a member for life and invite your friends and family to join; if you have been a member for many years, you already know the core reason why we choose to pay our dues each year – our children at Mooseheart, our seniors at Moosehaven, our communities, our Moose home and our Moose friends. My wish is that after each visit to our Moose home, after each attendance of a conference or convention, after each visit to our twin cities, after each community service function that you leave more inspired; that you leave with cheeks that hurt from smiling and laughing; that you leave feeling warm and fuzzy from seeing old friends and making new ones; most of all, I wish that you leave knowing that you are a valued Moose member that makes a difference every day for a child, a senior, a moose home and a community. Thank you for choosing to become a member of one of the most wonderful fraternal organizations in the world! McPherson, Grand Chancellor CHAPTER MEETINGS 1ST & 3RD Thursdays 7:00 PM The May 7th Chapter meeting is in honor of the Membership/Retention Chair Karen Henkel and her committee. The annual pharmacy budget for our Moosehaven residents averages $300,000 per year, over and above the amounts covered by Medicare and private insurance. The cost of prescription drugs and over the counter medications and supplies necessary to our resident’s good health continues to escalate at an alarming rate. The Women of the Moose have pledged to help offset this expense. The Committee will be holding 50/50 raffles at the Sheepshead Tournament in September. This year, the Membership/Retention Committee is extremely pleased to be able to donate funds towards the annual Moosehaven budget and once again, assist our Moosehaven Residents and the WOTM Scholarship & Maintenance Fund. The main purpose of the Membership/Retention Committee is just what it implies, retaining the members that we have and those in arrears, as well as continuing to build WOTM/Chapter membership. All co-workers are encouraged to ‘talk Moose’ to friends and family to ensure the future of the children and senior Moose Members entrusted to our care. Community Service Committee Recognized at June meeting The June 4th Chapter meeting is in honor of the Community Service Chair Jean Swett and her committee. “Each committee is assigned a special project by International Headquarters and our committee is proud to be able to provide funds for the Clothing, Laundry and Dry Cleaning Program at Moosehaven,” said Melissa. At Moosehaven as with any normal household, residents want to look their best on a daily basis, which require clothing, laundry and dry cleaning. As the WOTM continue to assist our Moosehaven Campus to offset their annual budget, the committee is pleased to provide funds to ensure residents have the fashion clothing they like and want, as well as the means to properly care for those clothing items. At this time the committee has not finalized plans for their fund raising project. From the proceeds of their project, we will be able to make a generous donation for the Daily Needs Program as well as the WOTM Scholarship and Maintenance Fund. You have the opportunity to talk to your friends and family and let them know of the many ways they can be of service to our fraternity as well as in our communities: Food Pantry, Nursing Home, the Tommy Moose program and many, many more. What is Tommy Moose, you ask? Tommy Moose is a stuffed moose that the Chapter makes available to local fire and police departments for their use where there is a child in need of comfort. What better way to offer comfort – AND – let the public know about our commitment in our communities. Again, congratulations, and thanks to these sponsors for continuing to ‘talk Moose’! Karen Henkel Membership Retention Chairman MUSKEGO 1057 NEWS 8 MAY-JUN 2015 SENIOR REGENT MESSAGE . . . Greetings Co-workers, Spring is a time of new beginnings, as it is with the Chapter as new officer’s take on their new positions. My name is Rachel Oemig Klein and I am the new Senior Regent for the 2015-2016 year. You may have seen me at the Lodge volunteering at one of the many children’s activities that the Moose Family Center sponsors. I am married to Joe, and we have a six-year old son named Collin, who also loves the Moose Lodge. I am a small business owner, who runs two group homes for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Milwaukee area. Prior to that, I have held other management positions for other agencies in the same field. I have a Master’s degree in Business Management from Cardinal Stritch University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marquette University. My leadership style is a servant-leader style which aligns well with the Moose philosophy of helping others. I also volunteer at my son’s school and I am on the board of officers’ for Friends of the Mill Pond & Oak Creek Watercourse and I am the Treasurer on the board for Friends of Vernon Marsh. I enjoy being involved in my community, watching Wisconsin sports teams, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I would first of all like to recognize my sponsor, Lisa Nardi Williams, who is now the Junior Graduate Regent. Thank you for leading the Chapter over the last year. You took over when the Chapter needed someone, you jumped right in and you set a good example for me to follow. I appreciate your effort and support. Also, thank you to those who have stepped up to volunteer to be Chairwomen for this coming year as well. I look forward in seeing you having successful fundraising campaigns. The Chapter is still in need of a Junior Regent to serve for the year. If anyone is interested in this position, please contact one of the Chapter board members listed in this newsletter. I promise I will work by your side to help prepare you for your current role and in the future, give me a call! The Chapter leaders will look a little different this year with one less officer on the board, and less committee chairwomen, but still many opportunities to serve. I will be working with the Board to get every co-worker assigned to a committee. Keep your eyes open for further information in future newsletters or come to a chapter meeting to find out more. We meet the first and third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM. The month of May honors mothers, so I hope to see you at the Mother’s Day Breakfast Buffet on May 10th from 9 am to noon at the Lodge. I would like to honor and recognize our past Senior Regents who have gave of their time and efforts to keep the Chapter going and help make our community a great place to live and raise a family. I would also like to thank all of you co-workers in advance for your assistance in making this upcoming year great! Sincerely, Rachel Oemig Klein Senior Regent TOMMY MOOSE On Sunday April 19th at the Big Bend Fire Department Pancake Breakfast & Open House, the Muskego Moose Lodge represented by Mike Bellek the Lodge’s 2 Year Trustee, Colleen Jones the Chapter’s Chaplain and Cheryl Giesegh the Chapter’s Junior Graduate Regent, presented the Big Bend Fire Department and Big Bend Police Department with 3 dozen Tommy Moose. The straight-forward, simple idea behind Tommy Moose is the key to its success – to provide a plush doll to police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel, to use to soothe a child who has suffered through a traumatic situation. 2016 Graduates, - time’s a-wastin’ If you are a Junior this year and plan on graduating in 2016 and you haven’t applied for the R. Robert Dale Scholarship from Mooseheart yet, this is your last call. The deadline for submission of applications is June 30, 2015 and that date IS CARVED IN STONE! No applications will be accepted after that date. ACT NOW! Remember, members – it’s a $1,000 Scholarship for your son, daughter or grandchild! Last year we emphasized the children of Mooseheart, our seniors at Moosehaven, and the communities in which we serve during the “Moose – Back to Basics” campaign year.
