This ensures viewers are not duplicated while providing a true measure of event penetration. For the purposes of this report, audience reach has been based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes of coverage; however various other reach conditions have also been sourced and are quoted throughout as well as shown in the “Appendix” section. The projected global reach is based on collecting the audited reach data in major measured markets around the world, which account for a wide geographic spread as well as a significant proportion of the world’s population. • This report examines only Television audiences. The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 was available to audiences via other media forms, such as broadband and mobile however, this report does not detail consumption figures for these other forms of media as the data cannot as yet be aggregated. • Many markets around the world have developed accurate methodologies to measure “IN-HOME AUDIENCES” over recent years; therefore there is a higher level of available audited audiences in this report than in the previous event report. • Where estimated audiences have been applied, a more rigorous methodology has been employed than previously, taking into account multiple variables (see “In-Home Data sources and methodology” section). Audience estimates are used due to the fact that official audited audience measurement systems still do not exist in many markets around the world. For example, estimates continue to be necessary in much of Africa, the Middle East, Caribbean, Pacific Islands and smaller markets in the Asia subcontinent. In addition, many digital/subscription channels around the world either do not or are not able to measure their audiences. Audited audience data is available in 85 territories, which, although only representing around 40% of the territories where coverage was available, account for approximately 75% of the world population. 1 Please refer to Glossary for definition of all terms identified in “CAPITALS” FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 5 Top-line coverage and audience summary Total broadcast hours: 2,481 (+46%) Total in-home audience reach (20+ consecutive minutes): 23.8 million (+29%) Total in-home audience reach (3+ consecutive minutes): 52.7 million (+48%) Average global in-home audience per live match: 1.2 million (+39%) Highest global in-home audience (FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 Final; TAH v POR): 9.2 million (+67%) (all % in parenthesis are compared to FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tahiti 2013) Total broadcast hours: 2,481 (+62%) Total in-home audience reach (20+ consecutive minutes): 23.8 million (-39%) Total in-home audience reach (3+ consecutive minutes): 52.7 million (-33%) Average global in-home audience per live match: 1.2 million (-22%) Highest global in-home audience (FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 Final; TAH v POR): 9.2 million (+29%) (all % in parenthesis are compared to FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Ravenna/Italy 2011) FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 6 Executive summary The in-home television coverage of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 reached 52.7 million people across the world, based on viewers watching a minimum of three (3) consecutive minutes of coverage. Based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes of coverage, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 reached 23.8 million viewers. To establish the audience reach for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015, FIFA sourced audience reach from 10 key markets within this report. Globally, there was a rise across all key audience measures between FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 and FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tahiti 2013. A sizeable increase of over 1,000 hours of dedicated coverage was recorded across South America, mainly due to the increased coverage of DirecTV channels in the region. The host market of Portugal contributed 2.7 million to the 20 minute reach total in 2015 (there was no domestic coverage in Portugal in 2013). Audiences increased due to extensive live coverage on Fox Sports and NBC Universo / Telemundo in the USA in 2015, replacing delayed only coverage on UDN in 2013. Overall, USA coverage rose from 24 hours to 64 hours and the 20 minute reach total of 1.1 million in 2015 was an increase from just 0.03 million in 2013. In China CCTV5+ broadcast Live matches (they did not do this in 2013) plus they increased their output from 10 hours to 28 hours. When comparing to the previous European held event, FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Ravenna/Italy 2011, the majority of audience measures experienced a decline. The key regions that generated the decline were Africa & Middle East and South America. In South Africa, SABC aired their programming in 2015 late at night whilst in 2011 they opted for far more daytime coverage giving greater opportunity for audiences to view. The highest single SABC broadcast audience in 2015 was 0.4 million which compares to the highest SABC audience in 2011 of 1.8 million. This contributed to a resulting loss of audience reach in South Africa from 5.9 million in 2011 to 1.0 million in 2015. In South America, the majority of the decrease can be attributed to Brazilian coverage. In 2011 TV Bandeirantes aired 16 matches on free-to-air TV, compared to just 5 in 2015. This impacted the tournament reach in Brazil; a decrease from 10.6 million in 2011 to 4.4 million in 2015. Other highlights of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 included: o Each live match was watched by an average in-home global audience of 1.2 million. o The highest global in-home audience was for the Final match between Tahiti and the host country Portugal, with a total audience of 9.2 million viewers. This represents an increase of 67% compared to the 2013 edition hosted by Tahiti and 29% compared to the 2011 edition hosted by Ravenna/Italy. o The highest programme audiences were recorded in Brazil; 12 live matches were broadcast by EBC Group / TV Brasil3, SporTV4 and TV Bandeirantes3, across which an average live audience of 0.4 million was achieved. The last Group Stage match between Brazil and Spain attracted an average audience of nearly 1.5 million viewers across the three networks; TV Bandeirantes3 alone contributing 1.3 million viewers to this figure. o Audience reach2 was also highest in Brazil, where 4.4 million viewers were reached2 across the duration of the tournament. 2 Based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes Sub-licensee of the main Media Rights Licensee Globo Comunicação e Participações S/A 4 Channel of the Media Rights Licensee Globo Comunicação e Participações S/A 3 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 7 1 5 o Host market Portugal attained the second highest reach2 figure; a total of 2.7 million people tuning in for a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes of dedicated coverage from the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015. o A total of 2,481 hours of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 “DEDICATED COVERAGE” were broadcast globally. A rise of 47% compared to the 2013 edition, and 62% compared to the 2011 edition. o The highest audited live match TVR (“TVR%”) during the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 was achieved, not surprisingly, on RTP 15 in Portugal for the Tahiti v Portugal Final (10.8%). The same channel also generated high TVR figures for the Semi Final matches; 9.0% for POR v RUS and 6.6% for ITA v TAH. o The Final match on RTP15 also achieved the highest audited live match “MARKET SHARE” during the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015, a figure of 34.2%. FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 9 In-home data sources and methodology The majority of schedules and programming were sourced from the official television auditing agencies in markets, or in some cases directly from the FIFA “MEDIA RIGHTS LICENSEES (MRLs)”. In addition, the current household penetration figures were confirmed via the same source for the majority of MRLs, or if this was not forthcoming, from either published data or via the Kantar Media and WPP network of offices. Furthermore, audience data, where available, has been gathered for each programme directly from MRLs. However, in some cases this has also been ordered from official television auditing agencies in the market. It is worth noting that several territories have audience measurement panels which do not cover the entire territory. In such cases, the audiences are upweighted using the officially measured data in conjunction with population and television penetration information to account for the entire territory. Where markets are able to split live coverage into pre-match, match and post-match and such coverage is of reasonable duration (more than three minutes), this has been displayed and analysed as separate highlights programming. 1 Please refer to Glossary for definition of all terms identified in “CAPITALS” FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 10 Global FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 analysis Key Market Analysis When based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes, the total audience reach of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 was 23.8 million. For the purposes of this report, 20 consecutive minutes has been used, as a recognised industry standard for engagement with football, however three minute reach has also been quoted throughout. Average audience: in audited markets, an audience is measured each minute throughout the day. The average audience is the sum of each audience for each minute during a broadcast, divided by the duration of coverage in minutes. Channel(s): the television station which the Media Rights Licensee used to show the event in-home. Dedicated coverage: the television time the event is aired for, based on specific devoted event coverage including live games, repeats, event highlights and magazine shows. Dedicated coverage therefore excludes clips shown in news bulletins and in non-dedicated magazine coverage such as FIFA Futbol Mundial or World Sport. Estimated audience: as many markets remain unaudited around the globe, estimated audiences are employed to predict the audience for coverage. For this event, the methodology outlined in the “In-home data sources and methodology” section was used. In-home viewing: the audience measurement based on all viewers from within the home, including guests. Market Share %: the audience expressed as a percentage of the total viewing audience watching television during a particular time period Media Rights Licensee (MRL): an organisation which has been granted certain media rights to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 in relation to the live and continuous transmission of the international TV signal of each match in a particular territory or territories. Peak average audience: the highest average audience of any single programme from all broadcasts. Peak match audience: the highest match audience, where all programmes for a match are considered (i.e. all live, delayed and repeat programmes). TVR%: the audience expressed as a share of the total possible television viewers in a particular market. Unique Visitors: the number of different people who access the video content. It is based upon one or more of the following types of information garnered from visitors: their IP address, their member name (if the particular site uses membership or if the visitor is part of a commercial service’s panel), or their “cookies” (personal identification information).
