DRAWING I
If you are new to drawing, we recommend that you start with
Drawing I (p. 10) or FastTrack Drawing (p. 11). These are beginnerlevel courses of different lengths to offer you a choice that
best suits you. Drawing I, because of its length, contains more
extensive content.

become comfortable with the course content), you can advance
to Drawing II or go straight into any other course in the drawing
section. The other courses below, all intermediate level, roughly
fall into observational drawing or expressive drawing camps as
follows:
Gain confidence and skills in drawing as you work through a
number of projects aimed at increasing your perceptive abilities
and eye-hand coordination. Focus will be on the elements of
drawing, observation, and composition as you explore a variety
of drawing media and techniques. Increase your understanding
through individual and group critiques. Please see your course

FOLD FORMING
INSTRUCTOR Charles
Lewton-Brain
Charles Lewton-Brain invented fold forming, which is now
internationally recognized as a completely new way to work
metal. Forms are derived from the natural plasticity and ductility
of the metal. Shaping is extremely efficient and rapid – many
forms are complete in 3-7 minutes. Tools are simple: fingers,
hammer, anvil, and mill. Complex relief forms are made from
sheets of metal often in one annealing. Forms made with this
method resemble chased constructed and soldered forms and
can be made with most metals, including steel. Please see your
course supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for the first
class.

ART TRAVEL | OCTOBER, 2014
We are planning a travel program to the ancient sacred cities of
Uzbekistan for October, 2014. At the cultural crossroads of
Central Asia, Uzbekistan is rich in UNESCO sites that
have long been symbols of oriental beauty
and mystery. Visit the cities that were trade and
intellectual hubs on the Silk Road: Samarkand, Khiva,
Bukhara and Tashkent.

TRAVEL PROGRAM - UZBEKISTAN
TRIP ESCORT: GERALD FORSETH
The cities of Uzbekistan have been cultural crossroads where East meets West for over a thousand years. Invaded, conquered and
ruled by a shifting mélange of Persian, Ottoman, Muslim and Christian warriors, Uzbekistan is rich in archeological treasures: palaces,
mosques, and sepulchers immortalizing emperors, tyrants, and caliphs; ancient cities and markets. The sweeping scale of the scenery
is a perfect counterpoint to the elaborate turquoise mosaics that cover many structures.
Come with ACAD off the beaten track to see the splendor, vastness and exotic markets of the rich Fergana Valley and its Silk Road
cities: Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara and Tashkent. We will travel by private van with a local guide and our Trip Escort, Architect Gerald
Forseth, jumping on a plane when the distance is great.
This Travel Program brings a small group to Uzbekistan when harvest is underway and the local food is diverse, fresh and plentiful. We
will stay in hotels and visit the architectural highlights of each city as well as visit the markets with their silks, carpets, brasswork and
other artisans. Expect to eat well, see fabulous structures and scenery, walk ancient streets with people in local dress and participate
in timeless customs like shopping from camel caravans. An interpreter will travel with us to increase your understanding of the sights
and activities. Every day is full with activities and different destinations, which you are free to join or to venture off on your own.
Please join us for Travel Talks on Uzbekistan by our Trip Escort, Architect Gerald Forseth, who will provide some history of the area,
images from his travels in Uzbekistan, and explain details of the program. Travel Talks are free and open to everyone.
Uzbekistan Travel Talks are scheduled for:
Tuesday, February 25, 7:00-9:00pm and
Tuesday, April 29, 7:00-9:00pm
