CONGRATULATIONS
2016-2017 Pacific West Province Executive Board
Satrap | Yuri Kang

Saturday night banquet of Fall Province hosted by Epsilon Gamma was
my favorite KY memory. It was really rewarding to see all of our hard
work come together and all of the Brothers enjoying their weekend at
province.

My favorite KY memory was Fall 2014 conclave hosted by Epsilon Gamma. It was great to be able to see all of our hard work and planning
come to fruition and seeing all the Brothers having such a good time.

Going to GCC in Denver was an amazing experience. To meet so many
brothers from across the nation and bond with them for the week was
awesome!

Going to GCC was my favorite KY memory. Words cannot express the
brotherhood and history you learn at GCC and it’s an experience that
every brother should have.

This past Spring Province hosted by Gamma Nu in Sacramento was
most notable because I had the opportunity to not only meet, but feel the
support of Brothers from other chapters. That’s what Province should
feel like.

The amount of outreach, support, and consideration I received from KY
during my toughest, most challenging time was my favorite memory. My
Brothers were there selflessly, ensuring my well-being and demonstrating just how close of a true family our Fraternity really is.

There is no better feeling than spending time with my brothers right after
completing a project that we have been working tirelessly on. You’re
filled with feelings of accomplishment and exhilaration that are second to
none.

My favorite memory in Kappa Psi was when I crossed in March of 2012.
I still remember the pride, ambition, and drive that was instilled on that
day when I put on those letters for the first time--it still inspires me to this
day to continue pursuing excellence as a Brother.

Two of my favorite memories have been the past Big & Little reveals
when I officially got my two Littles. They motivate and inspire me and
help fuel my passion for Kappa Psi. They are two of the reasons I try to
be the best brother I can be.

I have so many wonderful memories with Kappa Psi it’s difficult to
choose which is my favorite, but I enjoy “the firsts” and seeing small gestures of kindness/guidance transform Brothers into strong individuals
and leaders.

My fondest memory was me being able to marry my Kappa Psi Sweetheart Leah Marcelin and having so many of my close Kappa Psi Brothers be a part of the happiest day of my life. Kappa Psi is for life and is
my life, and I am blessed to see this more and more every day.

My favorite Kappa Psi memory was my first GCC. Getting the opportunity to meet brothers from every chapter changed my perspective about
Kappa Psi forever.

RISK MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
Pac West Province Supervisor,
Harry Marcelin, hosted an engaging
and productive workshop on risk
management. It gave brothers from
across the Pac West the opportunity
to discuss the importance of risk
management, collaborate on how to
mitigate risk during events and review the role of a risk management
committee. The importance of this
workshop can not be understated.
Risk management scenarios for
rushing events, pledging events, and
celebrations gave brothers practical
ideas on how to handle potential
risks. This will enable brothers to implement what was discussed into
their chapter operations and continue
to uphold the high ideals of Kappa
Psi. The Province Board is excited to
see how this will positively impact the
future of Pac West Chapters.
PLEDGE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
4
The Pac West Province would
like to thank Leah Marcelin for hosting an awesome Pledge Development Workshop. Leah, along with
many other graduate Brothers from
around the country, tackled the difficult topic of what to look for when recruiting outstanding future brothers.
The Province looked at what qualities
make up a great Brother and what
qualities make up a model pledge.
Not surprisingly, many of these traits
overlapped.Traits like loyal, hard
working, dedicated and selfless
where common on many of the posters around the room. The biggest
key to these traits was how do we
identify them in potential Brothers
during the rush process. Overall, the
Province worked together to brainstorm successful recruitment strategies and how to identify exceptional
future Brothers!

Sunday social:
BBQ Hosted By gamma nu
and epsilon iota
All of the Brothers had a great
time mingling with fellow chapters
over freshly grilled burgers and hot
dogs at Elk Grove Regional Park on
Sunday. Brothers found this the opportune event to represent Kappa Psi
in their new gear from Saturday’s
Chapter Sales. Thank you to Gamma
Nu and Epsilon Iota for hosting another great Sunday Social!
Legislative Changes
6
One of the most important things
that takes place during Province is
the legislative review and changes.
The Legislative Committee recommended three legislative changes for
adoption by the Province.
Several of these changes were
in accordance with other adopted
changes in an effort to stay consistent throughout the Province ByLaws. Of the changes that were
brought up for adoption, the most
significant one involved the election
of the GCC Delegate and Alternative
GCC Delegate.
Prior to the meeting the delegates were elected at the Spring
Province before a Grand Council
Convention and held a 2 year term.
The change, that was voted into
adoption, was to now elect the GCC
Delegate and Alternative GCC Delegate at the Fall Province prior to
Grand Council Convention. Thank
you to all the delegates that participated in the legislative discussions
and voting.
Continuing education
by Brother Corey Edwards
What is left after serving the
most glorious position of Grand Regent for Kappa Psi? Going back to
your day job of talking about the effects of an all Mastro's diet, of
course. Immediate Past Grand Regent Eric Gupta generously lent a
helping hand in updating the graduate Brothers on one of the many new
lipid guidelines. The 2013 ACC/AHA
guidelines (AKA "statins for dummies" as Brother Gupta calls it) claim
to have the most evidence-based
recommendations for the treatment
of dyslipidemias.
Whether you have an LDL-c of
200mg/dL or an ASCVD risk of
0.0001%, ACC/AHA has the statin for
you! Also, thanks to Brother Gupta,
the attendees are now more than familiar with the surrogate effects of
ezetimibe and gemfibrozil. Much like
the current US Presidential race, this
is a battle of the idealistic versus the
establishment. No need to extrapolate your data, like that other guideline, ACC/AHA is the way to be!

Pac west Philantrophy:
Sacramento Loaves & Fishes
Our Province Chaplain, Chris
Lin, lead the province in a philanthropy drive to help benefit the local Sacramento community. Chris worked
closely with Loaves and Fishes, a local Sacramento charity that works to
feed and shelter the homeless in the
area, to set up this event. Brothers
and chapters from across the province came together to collect a variety of items, including towels, tissue
packets, hand sanitizers and wipes,
and disposable rain ponchos. With
so many Brothers coming together in
one place, it was great to leave a
positive impact on the hosting Chapter’s community. This concluded this
year’s Support Your Neighbor philanthropy theme. The Pacific West Province is excited to announce next
year’s theme Working Together.
Thank you gamma nu
Hosting province is no easy task
and Gamma Nu did a tremendous
job of hosting a successful one this
Spring. With the guidance of their
Province Planning Chair, Jason Kim,
the weekend went by smoothly and
all of the Brothers in attendance had
a wonderful time. On behalf of the
Pacific West Province, we would like
to thank Gamma Nu for all of their
hard work.
