SUMMER Programs 2016 Academic Enrichment Athletics PreK-12 Experiences Integrating Christian Faith and Learning since 1913 Welcome to Minnehaha Academy! Dear Families, Welcome to summer at Minnehaha Academy! I had the pleasure of meeting many of you during Summer 2015, and I look forward to meeting many more new faces in 2016. I’m honored to be a part of this wonderful community. At Minnehaha Academy, you’ll find classes that are age-appropriate, creative, academically challenging and fun! Plus you will benefit from the flexibility of our schedule at competitive prices in a safe environment. Like our classes during the school year, you will experience high-quality education integrating Christian faith and learning. We had an incredible time last summer building friendships, learning together and making memories. We made jewelry boxes and trucks in woodworking, created movies, went fishing in area lakes, improved our swimming skills, played sports, were exposed to the Spanish language, developed various creations in Lego Robotics, cooked food from around the world, learned how to fence, solved mysteries, studied birds and more! We were busy. We had fun. We made memories that will last a lifetime. I can’t wait for Summer 2016—come join us! Sincerely, Kristin Kishaba Summer Programs Director 612.728.7745 [email protected] Helpful Hints! 1) Register early. students entering PreK through Grade 8. This class is designed for continuation and general support of academic skills in a group setting, rather than remediation of significant academic need which requires 1-to-1 skilled intervention. Teachers will help students build upon their strengths, while also addressing areas needing improvement. Each experienced, licensed teacher will work with a group of five or fewer students in the areas of reading, writing, and math. A variety of methods and activities will be utilized, including practice drills, projects, games, and discussions. Summer Academy Summer Academy provides a summer academic boost in a small-group tutoring format. Since the groups are small, the teachers are able to tailor the instruction to the needs of the students in the group. The course is appropriate for: • Students who are performing below grade level and need some help to meet expectations in the upcoming school year. • Students who are performing at grade level and would like to maintain their skills over the summer. • Students who are performing above grade level and would enjoy enriching their skills over the summer. The morning will be divided into three sections, focusing on one subject during each section, with a short break between sections.
