Algíss started out as a new commercial brand in 2005 offering an image that conveyed the
innovation, quality, and competitiveness that characterised the gypsum plaster powder and
moulding plaster division at Uralita, the Spanish construction materials group with a history going
back more than 100 years.
The consolidation of Algíss in the Spanish domestic market began in 1998 (still under the name of
Uralita Yesos at that time) when it opened its fourth industrial plant in Valdemoro, Madrid, to
supply the markets in the Central Spain and Portugal area, and peaked in 2009 when it opened
a new factory in Martos, Jaén, with a view to supplying the entire South Spain area. Algíss now
has six factories and two logistical centres that cover the entire Iberian Peninsula and operate in
a highly competitive manner.
We currently offer a wide range of products and services starting with our traditional offer of
Gypsum Hand Plaster (GHP) and complementing with other more profitable and higher quality
offers such as Gypsum Machine Plaster (GMP), the silo system, and other products with high
added value.
At Algíss, we are committed to a business strategy with continuous investment in R&D&I with the
aim of optimising the production processes and developing new products and services in line with
the most demanding construction needs, while facilitating the work of professionals who use
gypsum plaster.
Algíss' long and successful history has been possible thanks to the high level of personal attention
that we give to our clients, who provide us with the feedback essential to the continuous
improvement of the Algíss product and service range.

A little about our history
Uralita Yesos started up in 1989 when Cogysa, the leading
company in the Catalan market for more than a century, was
incorporated into Uralita Group. From the very beginning,
Uralita Yesos maintained a philosophy of expansion within the
gypsum plaster powder market which led to the absorption of
companies as large as Levantina de Yesos and Yesos Pamplona.
02
In 1998, Uralita Yesos opened its most modern
industrial gypsum plaster powder production
plant in Valdemoro, which led to its consolidation
in the market and its takeover in the same year by
Yesos Ibéricos, S.A., the largest industrial and
commercial actor in the Iberian market.

from nature to the home
Expanded perlite, comfort,
and profitability
Gypsum is a mineral composed of calcium sulphate dihydrate. It is a crystalline
structure containing two water molecules for each calcium sulphate molecule.
When it is dehydrated, it releases some of the crystallisation water, giving us
construction plaster, which re-solidifies and sets when prepared with water, restoring
the original stone to its natural state on the substrate where it is applied.
Because of its porous structure, the plaster in its set form provides exceptional
bioclimatic properties. Its excellent insulation and moisture regulation properties make
it an irreplaceable material in modern construction techniques, and is therefore used
directly on plastering, rendering and set work, prefabricated partitions and Pladur®
plasterboard.
Its excellent plasticity and malleability provide an infinite range of possibilities in
decoration work. The technological evolution of the production process enables us to
offer a wide range so that you can find the solution best adapted to all of your
construction needs.
Compared to similar materials, plasters using
Algíss perlite offer many advantages during
the working process: in addition to its high
performance during application (greater
surface area covered with an equal weight of
gypsum plaster), they are more economical,
dry quicker, and can even be applied in
winter. Trust Algíss whenever you need
advanced solutions for profitability and
quality plaster finishes.

characteristics and properties
Natural and ecological product
Gypsum plaster is obtained from calcium sulphate, a mineral that is abundant in nature, non-toxic
and environmentally friendly as its waste is biodegradable.
Heat insulation
Algíss,
the Rose of the Desert
A natural symbol of
distinction and
commitment to our
clients. The essence of
our firm commitment to
their needs.
The Rose of the Desert
is the most beautiful
and exclusive way in
which nature gives us
gypsum, one of its most
prized jewels.
Its high thermal inertia and low conductivity coefficient reduce the thermal bridges and eliminate
the cold wall phenomenon.
Regulating ambient humidity
Plaster coats breathe like skin, regulating the temperature and promoting aeration. This helps to
balance moisture content, rapidly absorbing excess humidity and returning it to the environment
when the air is drier.
Fire protection
Plaster coats are incombustible and therefore prolong fire resistance and do not give off toxic fumes
or smoke. In the event of a fire, the gypsum plaster plays an active role through its crystallisation
water, which not only acts as a fire break but also absorbs a considerable amount of heat.
Good sound absorption
The gypsum plaster has a certain amount of elasticity which, combined with its finely porous
internal structure, enables it to act as a good sound-absorbing material, reducing reverberation and
damping sound waves.
Fulfilling the needs of end users
The bioclimatic and natural properties of the plaster coat contribute to comfort by creating a healthy
and balanced ambient climate in houses and other internal spaces. Because of its white colour,
gypsum plaster is the ideal substrate for applying any other type of finish.
03
Algíss offers a wide range of plasters especially developed to meet the most demanding construction
needs both in new works and rehabilitation and refurbishment works in accordance with all the
requirements of the Technical Building Code. It is a complete range from basic plaster to high value
added plaster, all benefitting from a modern production process providing a high standard of quality
and reliability for our products.

conditions prior to
application
Before starting the application of the
coat, it is essential to complete the
outside walls, including their coating,
and the roof of the building, or at least
have completed three slabs on the floor
to be coated. The window frames and
doors must have been received and all
metal objects must be protected.
treatment of
the substrates
For a perfect coating result, dust and
adhered particles, rough patches, oil
stains, and residue from release
agents must be cleaned off the
substrate. When the plaster is to be
applied on very absorbent substrates,
it is recommended to dampen them
with water. If this is not sufficient, it is
recommended to apply a primer to
regulate absorption. In order to
reduce the risk of cracks, it is
recommended to use fibreglass on
surfaces such as polystyrene,
polyethylene, and so on. On smooth
substrates, the surface must be
treated to create a certain roughness
to promote adhesion. If this is not
sufficient, it is recommended to apply
a bonding bridge.
favourable
atmospheric conditions
The coating must not be exposed to
draughts of air or very dry temperatures
as this will quickly evaporate the
preparation water during the application
phase. The recommended application
temperature is 5-40º C.
Dampness may damage the substrates. It
is therefore necessary to ensure that the
walls, partitions, and ceilings are dry
before applying the coats. In addition, it
is important that surfaces that have only
just been applied do not become damp
due to rain. The relative humidity must
be less than 70%.
The recommended temperature
range for application is:
5º C
16
40º C
cleaning
the materials
The preparation containers and tools
must be clean and free of material left
over from previous applications before
each use.
The use of recycled water and wells
must be avoided. The water used for
preparation of the product must be
clean and no less than 5º C.
using
the product
The instructions recommended by
Algíss for each product must always be
followed. No additives must be
introduced and different types of plaster
must not be mixed together, as this may
alter the characteristics of the product
and the final result. Water must not be
added once the product has been
prepared. Impacts or vibrations that
may alter the product setting phase
must be avoided.
thicknesses
The thicknesses shall range between
1.2 cm and a maximum of 2 cm. The
thicknesses must not exceed 2 cm as
this may give rise to different types of
pathologies of the work, with the
exception of products specially
formulated for use in thicker layers.
Range of thicknesses:
1,2 cm
2 cm

coat
drying
paintwork
The coating must dry naturally with
adequate ventilation so that it will dry
correctly. It is not recommended to dry
the coating artificially using air cannons
as this may prevent the product from
setting correctly and cause it to come
away from the substrate due to lack of
adhesion. The drying time may vary
from 30 to 45 days depending on
atmospheric conditions, air circulation,
and exposure to sunlight.
Before painting, it is recommended to
apply a coat of primer that will regulate
the wall's absorption. Primers are products
designed for the aforementioned purpose.
If primer is not used, or it is substituted for
a coat of lower quality paint, this may lead
to problems with the paintwork. The
subsequent paintwork must be carried out
in line with the manufacturer's instructions
on special paint for application on plaster
coats.
Do not use thicknesses
exceeding:
2 cm
as this may give rise to different
types of pathologies of the work.
general recommendations
storage
The plaster must always be stored in a
covered, dry, and adequately ventilated
area, as the ambient humidity may alter
its characteristics and behaviour and may
even make the product unusable.
If stored on pallets, it is recommended
that once these have been opened, they
are covered with their own plastic
wrapping to protect the product from
damp.

certain amount of variation as well as the
normal differences in manufacturing
