In 2013 Tomsk Polytechnic University was among 15 Russian
universities that won the competition to be awarded the subsidy for the promotion into world ranking systems.

The strategic goal of Tomsk Polytechnic University is to become one of the world-leading research universities in the
area of resource-efficient technologies solving global societal,
economic and environmental problems for the benefit of the
mankind sustainable development.
TPU competitiveness enhancement programme envisages university development as a network Centre of Excellence in

In 2010–2011 the university was among the leaders in Russia to start Bachelor’s training in a number of educational
programmes developed on the basis of Federal State Educational Standards of the third generation. To guarantee
regulatory and methodological support during university
transition to the tier system of education in compliance with
the Federal State Educational Standard the university developed Standards and Guidelines to Ensure Quality of Basic
Educational Programmes of Bachelor, Master and Specialists

TPU BEP Standard of 2012 (third edition) implements the

TPU is a leader in R&D and has the greatest number of international contracts among all universities and institutions of the
RF Ministry of Education and Science. In 2013 the total number
of R&D projects amounted to over 1.6 billion rubles, including
off-budget funds that comprised over 1.3 billion rubles.

IMPLEMENTED AT TPU:
– NEVZ-Soyuz Holding Company – production of goods made
of functional and nanostructural ceramics for high tech industries;
– Information Satellite Systems named after academician
M. F. Reshetnev together with Tomsk State University (TSU) and
Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) – development of electronic modules based on the
system-on-crystal technology that are used in space communication equipment, navigation systems and ERS sensors;
– Research Institute of Semiconductor Devices together
with TSU and TUSUR – development of high efficient and reliable light sources and light devices and their batch production.
Since 2013 together with Energy Aerospace Corporation
and Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science
of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPMS SB RAS) TPU is involved in development and
implementation of high-efficient technology to produce casing
elements of aerospace equipment of a new generation. Together with KORMZ TPU carries out a megaproject on the development and manufacturing of geokhod – a mining machine
for subsurface construction.
TPU is one of the founders of Siberian Ceramics, a nonprofit
partnership for research and innovation (coordinated by SB
RAS), Tomsk Atomic Centre and Tomsknanotekh, a multiagency nanotechnology centre.

RESEARCH
Annually, TPU executes about one hundred international
contracts and grants that worth more than $5 million, which
allows the university to take a leading position among other
universities of the Russian Federation.

– TPU has the only educational and research nuclear reactor in the Asian part of Russia.
60 million rubles is allocated to youth science where over 70%
comes from programmes and grants. More than 90 TPU students and young researchers implement their innovative projects in the framework of the U.M.N.I.K. programme. Traditional
areas of research are information technology, mechanical engineering, instrument engineering and electronics, chemistry,
chemical technology and new materials.
TPU students annually receive over 80 medals, including the
Medal of the RAS, for research projects and final qualification
papers in international, national and local competitions.
Tomsk Consortium of Scientific and Educational Organisations was
founded in November 2011. The Consortium Council is headed by TPU
Rector Petr Chubik.

In 2010 TPU won the competition among Russian universities to
become a centre of attraction of volunteers at the 22nd Winter
Olympic Games and the 11th Winter Paralympic Games of
2014 in Sochi. IT training center for volunteers organised at TPU
is one of the first effective sites in the country providing real opportunities for self-fulfillment and acquiring experience in largescale organisational work for creative youth.

pipeline systems with the diameter of 1020 and 1200 mm.
• Tomsk Open Laboratory for Material Inspection
(ТOLMI) strives for integration into research and educational projects of the Institute, improves cooperation with
leading companies of Russia as well as world renowned
educational and scientific organisations.
• Intersectoral Centre for Irradiation Testing of Materials
enables modern infrastructure and methodology for standard
and acceptance irradiation testing of electronic components
of aboard equipment for the effects of total ionizing dose, as
well as for electrification testing of structural dielectric elements of 15-year-old or older spacecrafts (as defined in ESA/
SCC 22900).
