Since both have a strong Irish ancestry it was decided to have a traditional Irish wedding. (You are probably asking how is he Irish with a last name like Lipetzky. Both Neil and Terri are half Irish with each having a parent coming from strong Irish families.) All the groomsmen and father of the groom decked out traditional Irish kilts. Scott and Neil’s kilts were in the design of the family clan. Corn beef and cabbage were the main course at the reception. Bag Pipes played for the grand entrance of the wedding party at the reception. Fun was had by all. The remodeling of the new Jackson studio is coming along nicely. In the picture Steve Heaton points out where the new counters will be placed. Lisa Johnston is finally back at work after having her baby girl in April. Shortly after having Adeline, Lisa had major surgery to remove a large cyst weighing 6 lbs. She is grateful to be back at her desk. “I’m so appreciative that I had Short Term Disability and family to help me get through the 12 weeks of recovery. I certainly enjoyed the extra time with my girls, despite the recovery restrictions. It’s nice having things back to normal!” 2nd 22nd 27th 30th Terry Lowry Sarah Evelo Mark Zalme Jason Jacobs 7th 16th 27th 28th 19th Amanda Veit Rebecca Thorson Marty Spies Doug Broek Doug Pitts This year's Ag Women's Day was held June 1st in Faulkton. Women from all over South Dakota gathered to listen to a variety of speakers and shop! The highlight of the day was the keynote speaker, Greg Peterson of the Peterson Farm Bros. He discussed how the parody music videos he has made with his brothers have helped them advocate for agriculture, and how anyone can utilize social media to do so. Northern Plains Livestock Day is an annual youth livestock show, organized by the Aberdeen Chamber Ag Committee. Erin Drew, Kate Von Brook, Sarah Evelo, and Kristina Maddocks all assisted with registration and weigh in of the animals. Once again this year, Dakota Broadcasting was in attendance at Ipswich Trail Days. Commemorative t-shirts were a hit as usual! Staff fired the crowd up before the concert with the t-shirt cannon on stage, and even decked the bull fighters out in the special shirts! Dakota Broadcasting KABD/KMOM 426 N. Hwy 281 Ste 4 Aberdeen, SD 57401 605-725-5551 www.dakotabroadcasting.com On June 6th we participated in the annual Aberdeen Area Chamber Golf Tournament at Moccasin Creek Country Club. We also hosted a putting contest on the putting green and had a team in the tournament. This year’s theme for the tournament was “Caddy Shack”. During the putting contest participants got the chance to sink a put with our gofer stick. (putter with a stuffed gopher taped to it). Each put they made got them entered in a drawing for a weekend stay at the Deadwood Gulch Resort. The winner of the contest was Casey Weismantel from the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Our golf team did unusually well for it being a very hot and windy day. Our team took 2nd place in the 1st flight and shot a 56 on 18 holes. The team is pictured and consisted of Devin Reints, Tom Kaiser from North Central Farmers Elevator, Brent Neys from North Central Farmers Elevator and Josh Bowen from Ameriprise Financial. Time to order new business cards! Kristina Maddocks is now Kristina Sigaty. Kristina and Brandon were married June 18th in a ceremony held on their property, heading to the Brown County Fairgrounds for a reception afterwards. The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce presented checks totaling $10,000 to representatives of four lakes area protective associations, with each receiving $2,500. The money is a cut of the proceeds from this year’s Walleye Weekend. Jeff Thee, Executive Director of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, says the chamber board felt it was important proceeds from Walleye Weekend be kept locally. In the past a portion of proceeds from the event went to Easter Seals Society of Iowa. Three morning show hosts walk into a golf course... Jeff, Ed, and Chuck participated in the Noon Kiwanis Golf Outing on Thursday, May 19th. The event was held at Brook National Golf Course and raised nearly $7,000 for the children of our community. The tournament was a "best ball" or "Chuck ball" as was decided was a better term for the team. A great time was had by all and all for a great cause! Spirit Lake KUQQ/KUOO On June 1st, Chief Engineer Steve Heaton conducted training at the Spirit Lake tower. Steve went over Emergency plans and the back up generator. P.O. We had 21 Vendors there selling products from Golf Carts to Scentsy products. Over 1,500 people came to check out all the great vendors. On Saturday we had Art at Full Throttle carving two great chain saw pieces that were given away. For the second year, The Moose 92.9 was a promotional partner for the Tree Town Music Festival held on May 26-29 in Forest City, IA. This year not only did we give our listeners a chance to attend the show through the VIP Summer Pass, or different on location remote broadcasts that generated good revenue for our station, but we expanded our onsite exposure. The Moose 92.9 logo was a part of the show each night on the jumbotron, showing our logo and website to tens of thousands in attendance. We hit the mud running with social media coverage with photos and video from each night, a backstage video interview with Friday artist Tucker Beathard, and backstage audio interviews with Kelsea Ballerini, Jana Kramer and Chris Janson! Our mission to bring great access to our listeners and to be where they are was accomplished. Next year’s headliner was already announced as Jason Aldean, and we look forward to being there again next year! Buzz donated to a great cause by purchasing the entire staff red noses for Red Nose Day, which took place on May 26th. Red Nose Day is all about having fun, raising money and changing lives. Money raised through this cause will help transform the lives of children living in poverty in the U.S. and internationally. $31.5 million dollars was raised this year to help kids in need. Storm Lake St. Mary’s had a record-setting year for their food-packing event, which was held at the school on April 20th. They were able to pack 100,224 meals this year. The meals get shipped to needy people in Honduras and other third-world countries. One box of food packaged, feeds 216 people and costs $34. Buzz donated his time on behalf of Storm Lake Radio. Storm Lake KAYL FM/KAYL AM/ KKIA 910 Findt Dr Storm Lake, IA 50588 (712) 732-3520 www.stormlakeradio.com Storm Lake Rotary Club members took over the KAYL-FM airwaves on the afternoon of April 19th for the annual Rotary Radio Days. Rotary members had a good time promoting some events they had going on, conducting interviews, and giving away prizes. Our DJ's, including Sandy, helped keep them in line! The first weekend in June Storm Lake Radio sports director Chris Boeckman found himself in Des Moines broadcasting Storm Lake state tournament soccer. The Storm Lake boys soccer team lost to Norwalk in the 2A title match 2-1 in overtime, finishing runner-up for the 2nd time in four seasons. Pictured holding the runner up trophy is Storm Lake J-V soccer coach and Storm Lake Radio part-timer Tanner Hoops. Memorial Day at Sioux County Radio brings a special on air memoriam for service members who have passed and their families left to cherish their memory. Each year, we broadcast a memorial service live from Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. It is a beloved tradition sponsored by some of our broadcast partners and a moving tribute to our area patrons, and our country. We are honored to be a part of bringing this Memorial Day tradition to our listeners each year. Dutch tradition comes alive on the air! The 76th Annual Orange City Tulip Festival, held each year in May, brings thousands of tourists to our listening area. Each year, the first of six parades to be held throughout the festival is broadcast live on our airwaves. Being an afternoon parade, many of our listeners who are still at the office tune in for a “mind’s eye view” of the floats passing by. We get many comments about the fun broadcast and get everyone in the area ready for “tulip time”! Craig Aukes and Cami Jo were at the broadcast booth this year, and were rewarded for their broadcast prowess with… what else? FUNNEL CAKE! Sioux County Radio partnered with the Iowa Cattleman’s Association to give away $700 worth of free beef certificates during the month of May. Listeners registered at our sponsor locations during beef month and winners were selected to each receive a $100 gift certificate for fresh beef at local markets & retailers. Iowa is one of the top nine beef producing states in the United States, we were proud to bring some recognition to our area cattle operations and some fresh Iowa beef to our listener’s tables! Sioux Center KSOU FM/KSOU AM/ KIHK P.O. Box 298 128 20th St SE Sioux Center, IA 51250 (712) 722-1090 www.siouxcountyradio.com We are busy this summer broadcasting live from all sorts of fun places! Recently Scott hosted a remote from the new Bomgaars location in Sioux Center for their grand opening. This is the BIGGEST store in the area and Scott had some fun with representatives from Bomgaars corporate companies and vendors. As you can see, he even had some time to shop for his own bargains. We’ll be on the road a LOT this summer with many fun stops ahead! Mark Buss and Doug Broek represented Sioux County Radio in the second annual golf outing for Center Financial Education’s “Swing For the Green” golf fundraiser! After a little morning rain, the guys had a good day for a good cause. Sources are unclear on “final scores”… apparently there is a “code on the course” of silence. Great news! In our first effort to load up the bus to Ballard's Resort on Lake of the Woods we were successful. We got word that the bus filled up just a few days before the price jumped. We promoted this trip on all 5 of our stations and announced the winner of a free trip on the Schwally and Ed Show on KUOO. Chuck Harmer from Xtreme Country will be traveling with the group this upcoming September. KKOJ Radio took part in the Jackson County Central elementary school Career days this year. For the second year, we took part in Career Day at Pleasantview Elementary in Lakefield. The students coming through our booth got to record themselves and we put that over a commercial bed. This was our first year at Riverside Elementary in Jackson. We held three break out classes with around 20 kids in each session. The students got to ask questions about radio and what it’s like to “talk all day”. Then we recorded the students for some summer safety PSA’s which we are airing during June on both Jackson stations! Jackson KKOJ AM/KRAQ FM 71991 US Hwy 71 South Jackson, MN 56143 (507) 847-5400 For over two years now, KKOJ Radio starts the 7am information block with the Pledge of Allegience. Each fall, we record the Jackson County Central elementary classes reciting the pledge, and we play those back each morning, Monday-Saturday, to start off our morning news. This is a great way to get the students interested in radio, and their parents and grandparents love it. Thanks to our friends at Storm Lake Radio, Xtreme Country 105.7 was able to hold our largest contest yet. Listeners registered to win Tree Town Music Festival tickets online and then waited for their name to be called on the air. If there name was called they had 105 seconds to call and claim their prize. This contest was a huge success as the Xtreme Country Morning Show had a bunch of excited listeners who won tickets, shirts and koozies and were able to enjoy Tree Town. Although the weekend was a tad wet we received numerous thank you's and many of the winners posted pics from the festival wearing their Xtreme Country shirts. www.kkoj.com
