El Karubah’s (Shreveport, LA) Potentate’s ball was held at the El Dorado Casino, Alcazar’s (Montgomery, AL) Potentate’s ball had a belly dancer who danced with a lit candelabra on her head, Joppa’s (Biloxi, MS) Potentate’s ball was decorated with all kinds of plumbers’ supplies, Dixie Shrine Convention (Panama City Beach, FL) had plenty of anything you could expect to experience, and we rode in a golf cart at the golf tournament to verify play for a hole-in-one. Imperial Shrine Convention will be held in Tampa, FL, July 2-7. Our very own Illustrious Sir Chris Smith is to be elected and installed as Imperial Potentate. He will be the first Imperial Potentate from Wahabi and the state of Mississippi. Units are very important in a Shrine Temple. If you haven’t done so, find one that fits your personality and get active. I enjoy “clowning around”, thus I am a member of the Clown Unit. We have lots of fun, and the children laugh with our antics. If you are interested in our group, contact me or any Clown Unit member. May God bless each of you and the precious children we work for, so that their lives will be better. Lloyd “Yogi” McGowan Assistant Rabban Recorder Nobles, We are past the halfway point in the year and we still have a number of our nobles who have not paid their dues. In the April-June issue of Desert Sands I published a list of those delinquent nobles and asked that you contact any of them that you could and ask them to pay their dues or let the temple office know of any who were not financially able to pay them so that other arrangements could be made. I am once again going to ask for your help on this. We don’t need to lose even one Shriner and I believe that a personal call from you will keep us from losing them. On another note, I want to thank each and every one of you for the kindness and support which you have shown to me for the past almost 2 years that I have had the pleasure of serving as your Recorder. Your help and patience have made doing the job enjoyable. May God bless you and God bless the Shrine, Charlie Tillman, P.P. Recorder Oriental Guide Nobles, It's been a busy first half of the year and there're more activities scheduled. Congratulations to the winners of the cash bash and golf tournament. Welcome to all new and existing leaders of the clubs throughout our region who were installed this year. I've enjoined traveling to the different clubs in north Mississippi and meeting the great members of our fraternity. It's hard to pass up a smoked pork chop dinner prepared by PP Bill Lee. My hats off to the motor club from Grenada for their efforts to rebuild their Motor Club and get more involved in their community. The national TV advertising is paying off, I've had several family members and friends comment on our organization and the great service we provide as Shriners. Let's not forget we are all volunteers of our fraternity and the membership fee and fund raising we do to support our facility is a small investment in comparison to the service we provide to help fund the children's hospital and transportation. Whether you joined for fun or fellowship or both, we are asking for your continued support and involvement. If you have ideas for fund-raising or want to post your event on our web page (wahabishriners.com) please contact the office and we will assist in getting it posted. Let's continue to support the great job James Teeters has done and keep Lady Shelah in our prayers. Looking forward to attending the 142nd Imperial Session in Tampa Florida July 2-7th where our own Chris Smith will be installed as Imperial Potentate. Hope to see you all there. Welcome new members and get involved in a club, we need you! Tim Pickering Oriental Guide Treasurer Dear Nobles and Ladies. The year is half gone and we are still having so much fun. Thanks to all of the people who made our Ceremonial a success. We gathered three new nobles. Get behind the Divan with the remaining fund-raisers and sell some tickets. Imperial is here and as we welcome our own Chris Smith as our new leader for the next year. We would like to see lots of shriners from our temple in Tampa to see him go through this endeavor. It is always a pleasure to serve as your Treasurer and if there is anything I can do for you don't hesitate to call. May God bless you and God bless the Shrine Fraternally Yours, William Sistrunk, P.P. WAHABI TEMPLE A.A.O.N.M.S P.O. BOX 2750 Jackson, MS 39207 (601) 371-7116 * 1-877-370-7116 NON PROFIT ORG.
