Biplab Kumar Kuila Assistant Professor, Center for Applied Chemistry Central University of Jharkhand Brambe, Ranchi-835205, Jharkhand [email protected] Profile Biplab Kumar Kuila obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc (Chemistry) from Calcutta University and his Ph.D (on polymer science) from Jadavpur University, Calcutta (Research work carried out at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science). He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Liming Dai’s group at University of Dayton, USA and as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Prof. Manfred Stamm’s group at Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany. After postdoctoral work he has joined as Assistant Professor in Center for Applied Chemistry, Central University of Jharkhand in 2011. Research Description Our research mainly focuses on two major areas. (a) Block copolymer/their supramolecules One research area is on the self-assembly study of block copolymer or their supramolecules with small molecule in bulk and thin film for preparation of functional nanostructured materials having wide range of potential applications. Some of the systems and strategies include Bio-inspired block copolymer (DNA-block copolymers) and their supramolecular assembly for nanofabrication and bio-sensing applications Block copolymer supramolecular assembly with organometallic compounds for fabrication of magnetic nanomaterials/or their arrays Nanoporous membranes from block copolymer startegies for waste water purification Reproducible Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) active substrates using block copolymer template Block copolymer strategies for photovoltaic devices with structure close to ideal solar cell (b) Macromolecules and their hybrid materials for optoelectronic applications Another important area of research focuses on design and synthesis of conjugated block copolymers and their hybrid materials with controlled and well defined optical and electronic properties for different electronic and optoelectronic device applications like photovoltaics, FET, LED etc Complete List of Publications as a Ramanujan Fellow 1. “Multilayer polymer thin film for fabrication of ordered multifunctional polymer nanocomposites”, Kuila, B.
