Traveling across the United States 15 times, I saw slums, Indian reservations,
ghettos, people young and old who need the same help. I witnessed if you don’t
have a proper education or the right appearance or the drive to not give up, you
will turn to self-destruction. To see our government spending money on war and
weapons and not helping these people gave me the momentum to do something
to make a difference in our country, would you like to help?
We have one more trip to deliver 8 tons of donated items to New Orleans; we
need help from people like you who care.

THE HEALING
CONNECTION
Thank you for your
amazing article about
Ed, his birthday, me and
the Healing Connection.
We so appreciate ALL
of your amazing efforts,
time and gifts you give
from The Connection
Magazine. The very
first day of the Healing
Connection, Serrita
Coleman attended
and saw clearly that
Ed and I needed help
in organizing. I am so
grateful that Serrita
offered to help. Ed and
I both agree that we
could not have done
the Healing Connection
without Serrita. Anyone
who knows Serrita, knows
how remarkable and
dedicated to kindness
and excellence she is.
After Serrita’s husband,
Duncan
Coleman
retired, Duncan would
generously come and
help on an ‘as-needed
basis’. Also, Vanessa
Lillie was a faithful and
excellent help at the
Healing Connection. We
had a wonderful team.

FORECLOSURE COLLABORATIVE
Local Govt, Non-Profits Respond to Crisis
T
HERE IS A FORECLOSURE Event on
Saturday, November 12, 2011 from
1pm to 5pm at the Resurrection Catholic
Church Hall, on 7600 Soquel Drive, Aptos.
The Central Coast Foreclosure Collaborative,
a working group of city and county agencies,
community-based organizations, and community
groups, will be hosting an event that will help
embattled local homeowners at risk of foreclosure.

foreclosure who want to know what to expect

As many residents who are facing
foreclosure know, foreclosure is a very
complicated and emotionally devastating
process. It is difficult to know what is best for a
family in the long-run and people need specific
information and useful advice.
This event will provide information about:
! Options for Homeowners Facing Foreclosure
! Free and Low-Cost Resources for Homeowners
! Reporting Fraud and Avoiding “Rescue” Scams
! Finding Resources for HUD-Certified
Housing Counseling, Debt Counseling,
Bankruptcy and Credit Counseling
! Obtaining Emotional Support in the Face of
Harsh Realities
Spanish translation will be provided.
This is a free event. CCFC members
are: Congressman Sam Farr, California State
Assemblymember Bill Monning and Luis Alejo,
Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s OfÞce,

What Do You Think About This Idea??
A
Congressional
Reform Act of 2011
(which could
be as follows. If you like it,
it has been suggested that
we each get this out to 20+
people and, then, it could
get to many people very
quickly. See what you think.).
1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a
salary while in office and receives
no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present &
future) participates in Social
Security. All funds in the
Congressional Retirement Fund
move to the Social Security System
immediately. All future funds flow
into the Social Security system, and
Congress participates with the
American people. It may not be
used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their
own retirement plan, just as
all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote
‘themselves
a
pay
raise’.
Congressional pay will rise by the
lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current
health care system and participates
in the same health care system as
the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide
by all laws they impose on the
American people.
7. All contracts with past and
present Congresspeople are void
effectively, 1/1/12. The American
people did not make this contract
with Congress.
Congress made all these
contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned
citizen legislators, so ours should
serve their term(s), then go home
and back to work.
This was possibly suggested
by Warren Buffet. We could not
substantiate that, however, we at
The Connection Magazine, like the
aforementioned ideas.

N
LES CONFESSIONS,
Rousseau wrote, “Finally I
recalled the stopgap solution of a
great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread, and who
responded: ‘Let them eat cake.’” This
1782 quote has become the iconic
slogan of class oppression by the
ruling elite.
While the right cries class war
at the proposal of taxing millionaires
at a slightly higher rate, the richest
1% continue to wage war against
the other 99% of us with powerful
corporate, financial and lobbying
connections. Their methods are
fraudulent, wanton oil speculation,
a student-loan bubble which is fit to
burst, etc., etc. The same corporate
moguls who have bankrolled the
campaigns of Tea Party candidates
promising deregulation and lower
taxes have been recently highlighted
for illegally trading with hostile
nations, falsifying documents, and
knowingly operating equipment
that has killed children. A trader
nonchalantly mentioned on BBC
that he dreams every night of
another recession, so he can profit
more from a market crash. The
evidence of class warfare is
everywhere. Our current system has
been carefully designed so the 1%
will benefit from the efforts and toil
of the 99%.

ost people have heard of
the need for high quality
alkaline water. At a cost of
2,000 to 4,000 per unit, the filtration
systems have been economically out
of reach for many people. This is because of the commission structure for
distributors. There is nothing wrong
with distributors getting a commission on products they feel they want
to help bring to the marketplace, but
sometimes that commission is just
too high.
M
Now there is a company bringing comparable high quality water
filtration for a fraction of the cost of
these other filters, $380.00 to be exact. What this means is more people
can have access to this health giving
water. Distributors make less, but can
feel good about getting great alkaline
into the bodies of more people. It is a
feel good trade-off.
Alkaline, small cluster water
can permeate each cell, cleaning it of
toxins. Alkaline water is considered
good protocol for cancer patients
who are often battling not just the
cancer but also the western medicine
cure. In today’s world, it is absolutely
important to have good filtered water
that can do the job of not only filtering
out environmental toxins, and creates optimal body pH, but also micro
clustered water for greater hydration
and permeability. If you can also magnetize and spin the water, it mimics
nature and creates water anew, like
out of a clear mountain spring. This is
what you want in a good filter.

ather than put your health in
the hands of cancer researchers
willing to do just about anything
to discover the next cancer drug breakthrough, take control of your health by
following the cancer-preventive lifestyle
changes below.
1. Avoid Fructose & Sugar: It’s
quite clear that if you want to avoid cancer, or are currently undergoing cancer
treatment, you absolutely MUST avoid
all forms of sugar—especially, fructose,
and this is largely due to its relation to
insulin resistance. According to Lewis
Cantley, director of the Cancer Center at
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
at Harvard Medical School, as much as
80% of all cancers are “driven by either
mutations or environmental factors that
work to enhance or mimic the effect of
insulin on the incipient tumor cells,” Gary
Taubes reports. Some cancer centers,
such as the Cancer Centers of America,
have fully embraced this knowledge and
place their patients on strict low-sugar,
low-grain diets. But, conventional medicine, in general, has been woefully lax
when it comes to highlighting the health
dangers of this additive. As a standard
recommendation, I strongly advise keeping your TOTAL fructose consumption
below 25 grams per day including fruits.
For most people, it would also be wise to
limit your fructose from fruit to 15 grams
or less, as you’re virtually guaranteed to
consume “hidden” sources of fructose if
you drink beverages other than water and
eat processed food.
2. Optimize Your Vitamin D
Level: There’s overwhelming evidence
pointing to the fact that vitamin D deficiency plays a crucial role in cancer development. Researchers within this field
have estimated that about 30% of cancer
deaths—which amounts to 2 million
worldwide and 200,000 in the USA—
could be prevented each year simply
by optimizing the vitamin D levels in
R
the general population. On
a personal level, you can
decrease your risk of cancer
by MORE THAN HALF
simply by optimizing your
vitamin D levels with sun
exposure. If you are being
treated for cancer, it is likely that higher
blood levels—probably around 80-90
ng/ml—would be beneficial. If the notion that sun exposure actually prevents
cancer is still new to you, I highly recommend you watch my one-hour vitamin
D lecture to clear up any confusion. It’s
important to understand that the risk of
skin cancer from the sun comes only from
excessive exposure.
3. Exercise: If you are like most
people, when you think of reducing
your risk of cancer, exercise doesn’t immediately come to mind. However, there
is some fairly compelling evidence that
exercise can slash your risk of cancer.
One of the primary ways exercise lowers your risk for cancer is by reducing
elevated insulin levels, which creates a
low sugar environment that discourages
the growth and spread of cancer cells. For
example, physically active adults experience about half the incidence of colon
cancer as their sedentary counterparts,
and women who exercise regularly may
reduce their breast cancer risk by 20% to
30% compared to those who are inactive.
It’s important to include a large variety
of techniques in your exercise routine,
such as strength training, aerobics, corebuilding activities and stretching. Most
importantly, however, is to make sure
you include high-intensity, burst-type
exercise, such as those described in my
Peak Fitness Program. These exercises
activate your super-fast twitch muscle
fibers, which can increase your body’s
natural production of human growth
hormone. For detailed instructions, in a
previous article on my website.
4. Get appropriate amounts of
high quality animal-based omega-3
5. Eat according to your nutritional type. The potent anti-cancer
effects of this principle are very much
under appreciated. When we treat cancer
patients in our clinic, this is one of the
most powerful anti-cancer strategies
we have.
6. Engage in activities that help
you reduce your stress levels, such as
exercise, meditation, journaling, music,
gardening, etc. Even the CDC states that
85% of disease is caused by emotions.
It is likely that this factor may be more
important than all the other physical
ones listed here, so make sure this is
addressed.
7. Only 25% of people eat enough
vegetables, so by all means eat as many
vegetables as are comfortable for you.
Ideally, they should be fresh and organic.
Cruciferous vegetables in particular have
been identified as having potent anticancer properties. Remember, that carb
nutritional types may need up to 300%
more vegetables than protein nutritional
types.
8. Maintain an ideal body
weight.
9. Get appropriate amounts of
high-quality sleep.
10. Reduce your exposure to
environmental toxins like pesticides,
household chemical cleaners, synthetic
air fresheners and air pollution.
11. Reduce your use of cell phones
and other wireless technologies, and
implement as many safety strategies
as possible if/when you cannot avoid
their use.
12. Boil, poach or steam your
foods, rather than frying or charbroiling them. Better yet, eat as many
of your foods raw (and well-cleaned)
as you can!!

To the Face, Part Two
by David L. Biles, D.D.S., M.A.
(Readers take a copy of this to
your dentist and insist that he read
it in your presence or withdraw
it from him/her. Don’t leave it for
later. Sorry guys/ladies. This is really
important.)
“In the fields of observation
chance favors only the prepared
mind.” —Louis Pasteur
n last month’s column, I presented
George’s case history revealing
how his face began to “shrink”
symmetrically as the total amount of
bacteria was reduced in his mouth via
thorough gum therapy, extraction of
four periodontally involved wisdom
teeth and five root canalled teeth, two
with visible active lesions at their root
bases. Then, remarkably, unilateral
replacement of 6 mercury laden silver
colored amalgam fillings with tooth
colored restorations two months later
resulted in an asymmetrical facial presentation. George’s face was split right
down the midline, swollen on the right
side of his face where his mercury
amalgams remained, relatively “tight”
on the left side, where only composite
fillings and clean tooth surfaces existed.
Ultimately, his face normalized on
his right side with a further reduction
of inflammation after removal of the
final 5 amalgams. I estimated that his
face became 25-30% “slimmer” from
his original appearance, “the round
cherubic pumpkin”. George’s face now
appeared lean, with a strikingly fairer
complexion.
My first thought after seeing the
asymmetry in George? Had I inadvertently performed this same or similar
protocol with anyone else? Science
demands reliability for new beliefs to
be accepted and directions for research
to travel. Easy recognition and repetition of the same phenomenon with
other patients and dentists would give
more credence to dentistry’s effect on
the rest of the human body, and would
lead to other questions. Answer: yes, I
had inadvertently performed the same
restorative protocol on another patient.
And… that patient was coming in for
treatment after a 6-month hiatus, having moved from Santa Cruz to Arroyo
Grande. What would he look like?
I didn’t have to wait long as that
gentleman, John, scheduled shortly
afterwards for a visit to complete his
silver colored mercury dental amalgam
removal. On the day of his treatment,
I performed a visual examination, and
concluded that he, too, had a facial
asymmetry with puffiness on the right
side of his face where his silver colored
mercury dental amalgams remained.
Upon questioning him about the asymmetry, he responded that he agreed
and also that his wife had thought he
might have had a stroke several weeks
ago when she noticed the discrepancy
between the left and right sides of his
face—edematous on only one side,
I
split right down the midline of his
face. Wow.
In this particular case, however,
John had less dentistry and better oral
health than George. John had fewer
teeth, healthier gums, less inflammation. No root canals. He only had eight
small silver amalgams, four on each
side, one small one for each molar, and
each one on the chewing or “occlusal”
surface, so none in direct contact with
gum tissue. Regardless, unilateral
removal of the amalgams created the
same effect on John as it had on George,
with obvious visible facial asymmetry
noted right down the midline of the
face. Wherever the mercury remained,
edema followed.
Could I find further proof? Or was
this just mere coincidence? Just when I
thought I would have to wait longer for
another interesting scenario to occur,
in walked Diana, a woman determined
to have all of the metals removed from
her mouth because she had been chronically ill, and now, as an acupuncturist,
she had determined that her medical
issues were related to the metals in
her teeth. She was unable to wear any
jewelry without reacting to it, and she
had concluded that if that were, indeed,
the case, then it was highly likely that
the metals that had been placed in her
teeth were having an effect on her
health also. She wanted them out, and
she wanted them out safely and as soon
as possible. I agreed.
Diana had an interesting nuance,
however. She had four silver colored
mercury amalgam fillings on the right
side of her face and she had an equal
number of gold restorations on the mirror image teeth on the left side of her
face. No other dentistry existed in her
mouth, no root canals, no composite
fillings, no nothing. No wisdom teeth.
Hygiene was fair, no gum disease. Just
a mirror image presentation of gold on
one side of her face/head/mouth and
mercury on the other. Interesting.
Our treatment plan? Logically, it
seemed that the removal of the amalgams should be the first removal candidate, but we decided to remove the gold
first, leaving the more toxic mercury
fillings there a few weeks longer. Why
did we do such a protocol? Because it
was an ideal opportunity not likely to
present itself again for a long time. A
patient with gold only restorations on
one side of the face, with the other side
equally mirrored in mercury-laden fillings? This was a rare opportunity. How
come; why?
As elements on the periodic table,
gold and mercury are known to have
a very high affinity to one another,
Chem 1A, UCD. Gold miners know
this and use this knowledge to extract
more gold from its sources. Many gold
miners in Africa, however, are afflicted
with neurological issues due to their
exposure to the mercury they use in
their mining protocols.
What physical effect, I wondered,
were the gold and mercury having on
one another—cross arch, if anything
at all? Would we find facial changes
and/or anything else different? Now
that I had seen a pattern, I was anxious
to see if it could be deliberately replicated with a defined treatment protocol.
So was Diana.
We proceeded to remove the four
gold inlays/onlays on the left side of
her mouth, one in each maxillary and
mandibular first and second molar. We
waited. A month later, Diana demonstrated a facial asymmetry right down
her midline, relatively swollen and
edematous over the right side where
her mercury fillings remained, tight
where the porcelain inlays and onlays
resided in place of the golden restorations. Wow, again.
We removed the remaining amalgams a week later. At her one-week post
op, with a video camera poised, I asked
Diana what, if anything had changed.
She excitedly told me that her face had
become warm again, flush with more
circulation and she no longer had to
wear a hat or muffler to stay warm,
common practice for her for most every
season for too many years to remember.
She was ecstatic. Her face was nearly
back to symmetry, too.
Anecdotal? Yes, but that is where
research begins, from serendipitous
sightings that appear meaningful to
the trained eye, and not just occasionally but… oftentimes… as I learned in
my research design classes in graduate
school. For those further interested,
I refer you to The Art of Scientific
Investigation by William I. Beverage,
required reading in my graduate program, pre-dentistry.
So now the task of any dentist
reading this little expose’ is to replicate what I have reported, and begin
to see for yourself the effects that
dentistry can obviously have on facial
presentation. This is a very simple
“laboratory” experiment. Take some
family members or patients who are
interested and willing to participate
and safely remove their amalgam fillings unilaterally using the IAOMT.org
protocol—rubber dam, supplemental
O2, water and chunking removal,
enhanced high speed suction and
filtration. Keep it simple at first—select patients with amalgams only-no
crowns/root canals. Photograph them
pre and post. Wait 4-8 weeks between
the removal of one side versus the
other. What do you see? Report back
to me through this magazine. Carpe
diem.

ometimes, it seems
that there is much in
this hectic, busy world
that is difficult on our bodies
and spirits. There is the stress
of everyday living in a fast
paced society, social messages that
promote body-level hatred, fast food,
pollution, environmental toxins, etc.
Not to mention the weight of various
emotional disappointments, hurts and
traumas, that we each encounter. As
we each make our way through this
world, winding through our own singular narrative of our life’s creations
unfolding, the history of our experiences become recorded within our
physical bodies, sometimes leading to
pain, disease, imbalance….
Life can be an amazing learning process, with our experiences as
our teachers. But along our personal
journeys, challenging as they can be,
we often find that we long for relaxation, restoration, for rejuvenation and
healing. For somewhere, there is the
remembrance within our bodies, that
we hold great possibility for healing,
perhaps beyond what we currently can
imagine….
S
Massage is a wonderful way to take a break
from the everyday “rat
race,” to move back into
the remembrance of honoring the body, the remembrance of the need
to love oneself. The remembrance
of the body’s truth of living, thriving
and creating.
As a massage practitioner, I find
that during a massage session, a beautiful sense of sacred space naturally
emerges. It is a space of nurturing and
nourishing. A space of hope. There is
the time to go within, reconnect with
oneself, or allow sensation to take
over and the mind to rest. There is
also the possibility for transformation
to occur. Old patterns of holding and
tension may begin to release; pain
and discomfort may begin to ease,
new ideas or movement may begin
to surface….
In my massage practice, I start
each massage like a sacred ritual,
with my intention made to be present
and to bless. I attune to the soothing
music wafting through the room, begin
to drop into my inner world. I start
by placing my hands on the back of
my client, who is covered by a warm
blanket. One hand is at the sacrum,
the other rests between the shoulder
blades, for our moment of first gentle
contact. Then as I apply oil and glide
my hands across my client’s skin,
pressing and warming the tissues of
the client’s body, reverence takes hold
and my intention to facilitate healing
plays inside of me like a clear inner
song, a melody that leads my dance
throughout the duration of the massage. This is not forced. It just pours
forth naturally, like a wave, with it’s
own inherent rhythmic flow.
We are each so unique, each will
experience sensations in their own
way. Clients have told me that their
massages are “very relaxing” and
“very helpful.” Sometimes people
fall asleep during a massage. This is a
natural response to the soothing of the
nervous system. Healing is personal to
each, and so can come to each however
they may create it.

JUST A BAIT-AND-SWITCH — AND
TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO STOP IT!
ONLY UNTIL DECEMBER 2, 2011!
Only a few more days (by Dec.
2 nd) [1] to tell FDA and Congress
that the proposed rules for supplements could lead to the elimination
of thousands of supplements and
make the surviving ones much more
expensive.
hen FDA issued their
draft guidance for New
Dietary Ingredients (that
is, supplements), the agency was
perverting congressional intent—the
congressmen who wrote the original
legislation even told the FDA commissioner before the guidance was
issued that it needed to be fully
consistent with DSHEA [2]! FDA
was also attempting to circumvent the
notification system Congress intended
by instituting a scheme that mirrors
the Waxman supplement pre-approval
system, introduced in 1993, which
DSHEA was intended to stop.
Here’s some important background
for you:
Supplement and integrative
medicine champion Sen. Orrin Hatch
made this statement when he introduced the bill for DSHEA [3] , the
Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994:
In our free market society, consumers should be able to purchase
W
dietary supplements; and companies
should be able to sell these products
so long as the labeling and advertising
are truthful, non-misleading, and there
exists a reasonable scientific basis for
product claims.
Unfortunately, not everyone in
our federal government shares these
views. For more than three decades,
FDA has tried to restrict severely
the ability of the dietary supplement industry to sell and market
its products, and consequently, the
ability of consumers to buy them.
The agency has repeatedly attempted
to impose unnecessarily stringent
standards that would leave many,
if not most, supplement companies
with no practical choice but to close
their doors.
In sharp contrast, Rep. Henry
Waxman wanted dietary ingredients
and nutritional supplements to be
considered food additives and there-

fore subject to FDA approval—not
unlike the system that is used for
drugs. So, Waxman introduced the
Dietary Supplement Access and
Claims Moratorium Act of 1993. This
bill would have amended the food
additive definition to include dietary
ingredients (supplements)—thereby,
making supplements subject to the
food additive approval process.
Happily, cooler heads in Congress prevailed. Sen. Hatch explicitly
stated:
“As you know, [DSHEA] makes
clear that dietary supplements are
not food additives or drugs, and
that the burden of proof shall be
on the FDA to prove that a product
is unsafe.”
Consequently, when DSHEA
was passed, dietary ingredients were
specifically exempted [4] from the
definition of “food additives,” making
supplements not subject to FDA preapproval. All that was needed was a
simple notification.
Now, FDA has offered its draft
guidance—which attempts to circumvent DSHEA as it was passed and
create a new pre-approval system.
Everything about this proposal is a
perversion of congressional intent,
and will (as Sen. Hatch told the
world eighteen years ago) severely

here is a new modality for treating strains,
sprains and sports injuries: It is called
Kinesio Tape (officially, Kinesio Tex®
Tape). Lance Armstrong calls this wonderful aid
to healing “my miracle tape”! Olympic athletes
are now relying on the supportive, flexible tape,
and you may recall seeing the female volleyball
players with the colored tape applied to their
bodies. Many other top sports figures, such as
Rory McIlroy (winner of the US Open golf tour)
have experienced Kinesio Tape in times of crisis,
enabling them to continue on with the game,
though injured.
Kinesio Tape was developed in Japan 25
years ago by Dr. Kenzo Kase. It took some time
for him to get his tape perfected and available in
America, but now it has taken off like wildfire.
Other knock-off brands have surged. These
knock-offs are mostly inferior and do not work
as well as Kinesio Tex Tape, with the exception
of SpiderTech Kinesiotape which still does not
work quite as well, but comes in pre-cut, easy to
apply shapes. SpiderTech also has modules on
the internet that help the consumer learn to apply
the tape to themselves.
So what is this
stuff after all?.... It
is a stretchy, latexfree, relatively thin
tape that is completely breathable. It lasts up to 5 days after
application. The tape has no medicine or chemicals in it. It’s healing properties come from the
stretchy consistency. You can apply the tape to a
large bruise (like from a terrible fall to the hip),
and when you pull the tape off in a day or two,
there is no bruise under the tape, but the bruise
remains in any spots that were missed. The
tape actually pulls up the skin slightly, and then
your motion throughout the day moves the tape
in waves. These micro-motions circulate your
lymphatic fluid and move out the toxins caused
by healing. The micro-motions also stimulate the
nervous system which accomplishes a speedier
healing time and reduced pain.
I have been using the tape in my office for
about three years. Most recently I used it on a
young woman with a “separated shoulder.” She
came back for her second appointment and said
she could not believe how much better she felt
(I had also used the laser on her shoulder). I’ve
applied Kinesio Tex tape to the back of a woman
who had hurt her low back badly while moving
a couch, and she reported that she was almost
“100%” better later that day. I’ve seen the tape
stabilize tendons that had healed improperly.
Kenisio Tex taping method is good for

“Youth is wasted on the young,” my Mom
used to say. “You’re blessed with all the energy
in the world, and don’t know how to appreciate it.
And, by the time you have acquired the wisdom
to make good use of all that energy, it’s not there
any more!”
hile that slightly jaded view of life was
characteristic of my mother, I seem to
see more and more evidence of it’s truth
as I approach the mid-point of my life.
Mid-point is, of course, a conceptual construct, since we don’t know in advance how long
we are going to live. As I am now in my 55th year,
I am almost half way to 120 (which seems like a
reasonable target to aim for). And, the healing work
that I do has been my path for more than half of my
lifetime at this point. It all began with a dream in
which I healed someone with my hands, and when
I woke up, I knew that that was what I needed to
learn to do. But, that is a story for another time.
What I’m thinking about today is how, after
years of observing and experiencing the processes
of injury and healing, illness and recovery, the
whole can be expressed in simplest terms as the
interplay of just three things. This should be of
no small surprise to those in the conventional
health care field, since their manual of diagnostic
entities (ICD-10) identifies 70,000 (that’s seventy
thousand) different conditions, or things that can go
wrong with one. And, their procedure manual lists
85,000 different responses that might be made and
reimbursed for by insurance companies.
By comparison, my own primary field of
chiropractic must appear simplistic, but that would
belie the simple truths embodied in its practice.
It turns out that simple is natural, and the
simplest, most stable structure in nature is the
triangle. And, a triangle is simply three points of
action, location, or expression that are connected
by three real or imaginary lines. Three points of
view, if you will, that give us a
frame of reference.
Having these three points to
locate our attention gives us maximum adaptability to the environment we are in. Like a tripod that
accommodates any terrain, having
three functional points to base our
ideas, opinions, and actions upon will give us
the flexibility to cope with the inevitable ups and
downs of a life that moves in cycles.
And so, while every aspect of our life, from
career to finances to relationship, can be subdivided
into three fundamentals, I believe that there is one
set of three that supersedes them all; those that
are related to our health and well-being. For what
is wealth, or even a great job, if one cannot enjoy
good health while we’re at it?
So, what are these “essential fundamentals”
I’ve referred to? Simply this: the way we move;
the way we eat; the we think. That’s it. These three
things are the only things that I believe we need to
give our attention to, and in doing so, we will find
that they encompass every aspect of our health.
And so, if we are not experiencing the kind of
health we would wish for, and since we are not the
victims of malevolent spirits or an unkind universe,
we now have a set of three behaviors from which
to choose as we investigate the source of our unwellness and develop our strategy of change.

“You’re not crazy.”
hen I Àrst read those words on a Fibromyalgia website, I cried. At last,
someone understood.
Fibromyalgia is a commonly misunderstood
disease. Since the symptoms are varied and can’t
be trace to any clearly identiÀable source, most
doctors feel the illness is more psychological than
physical, and therefore dismiss it as a truly serious ailment. Further compounding the diagnostic
difÀculties was the fact that I always worked
to project a positive attitude and therefore did
not Àt the proÀle of most Àbromyalgia patients.
Examples of symptoms are; fatigue, “fog brain,”
insomnia, muscle aches, constipation, bloating,
inability to make decisions, numbness, burning
or tingling, depression, and headaches. Most
patients report that their symptoms came on “suddenly,” and often occurred during an emotional
or physical crisis. Although the medical community told me that there is currently no cure,
my question remained, “How did I get it? What
caused it and is there a cure?”
In order to accurately share my story of
healing, it is important to start at the beginning.
I grew up in a middle class neighborhood in
Southern California. My father was a Chiropractor, and my mother was the consummate “Betty
Crocker” homemaker. As a child, I always had
digestive issues. We grew up with lots of store
bought wheat bread, cookies, ice cream, milk and
meat with almost every meal. (I thought all vegetables came from a can or from the freezer). Our
mainstay was Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom
soup poured over ground beef for dinner, ending
with a can of chilled Fruit Cocktail. Once I left
the “nest,” I indulged
in liters of Pepsi, Haagen Dazs ice cream,
and cheap red wine. I
married, had two boys
and moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains.
It was during the collapse of my marriage
and the stress of raising two boys alone, that I
began to notice my health rapidly decline. Sharp
pain appeared Àrst on my left outer thigh and
then my right. Stress, depression and many other
symptoms ensued. During the next seven years,
I looked for answers. What was wrong with me?
I sought help from self-help books, nutritionists,
guaifenesin therapy, physical therapy, yoga,
meditation, chiropractors, acupuncturists, homeopathy and medical doctors. (I want to emphasize that a natural approach would have always
been my preference, and I honor each of these
specialists). In my case, however, their treatment
protocols were like putting a few drops of bleach
on a huge pile of dirty laundry. It did a little bit
of good, but did not solve the problem. I was
Ànally technically diagnosed with Fibromyalgia
from a series of tests taken at a pharmaceutical
research facility. After Àghting severe depression, I resorted to the drug Cimbalta, which I
took for several years. After gaining 20 lbs. and
enduring constant constipation, I discovered the
Ivy Wellness Center in Santa Cruz for colon
hydrotheraphy. Little did I know, that it was the
pathway to freedom from Fibromyalgia. To be
continued in the next issue of this magazine....

eaders of Connection Magazine know full
well how nutritious HEMP seeds are, that
it is the most complete protein found in
nature. Yet, we do not farm INDUSTRIAL HEMP
in the United States. Why would anyone want to
keep such an important plant from us?
Once upon a time, INDUSTRIAL HEMP was
one of the most prevalent crops in the New World.
The crown required colonists to grow HEMP, to
send back to the weavers in London. HEMP was
used for cloth such as Betsy Ross’s famous Áags
(such as the Àrst Áags for the colonies and for the
USA Áag!!) and paper; even for the Declaration of
Independence—among many other uses.
HEMP continued its prominence in this country for hundreds of years and was the Àrst crop mentioned in a billion dollar conversation (by Popular
Mechanics Magazine in February 1938) at the same
time that it was being systematically eliminated
from competition by paper and textile giants.
While Henry Ford was using HEMP in panels
for prototype cars and promoting biofuels, the vast
lobbying efforts of those deep pockets convinced
the government to effectively outlaw INDUSTRIAL HEMP in the United States and most of the
developed world followed. That same government
made an exception for itself when it wanted INDUSTRIAL HEMP for the war effort in the 40’s, even
distributing seeds and producing Hemp for Victory,
its propaganda Àlm. When the war ended, the same
soldiers that depended on HEMP products were put
to work destroying the crops, and HEMP became
marginalized for over 50 years.
Today, the US is virtually alone amongst
developed nations in its continued resistance to INDUSTRIAL HEMP. We basically subsidize farmers
in Canada, China and other countries who supplied
over $400 million of HEMP imports last year, and
that number will only grow as
HEMP becomes more and more
ubiquitous. Around the world,
people are realizing that HEMP
is beneÀcial for the health of the people, the planet
AND the economy—which are at all-time lows.
Not only are the seeds an amazing protein
source containing all known amino acids, including Edestin, a very special protein, and the
recommended ratio of Omega 3’s and Omega
6’s; the plant itself can be used to make over
30,000 products eco-friendly. HEMP yields 4X
as much paper per acre than trees, uses less water
than cotton and doesn’t require pesticides. HEMP
was planted at Chernobyl to help draw toxins out
of the soil. HEMP can be used for food, personal
care products, clothing, paper goods, plastics,
building materials, biofuel— all in a sustainable
way!
HEMP is perhaps the most versatile plant
on Earth and could now very well be a trillion
dollar crop. Using the power of word of mouth
marketing to join this movement on the street
(and internet), an 8-yr old publicly traded direct
sales company recently launched a new division,
Versativa, sprouting an emerging—yet, passionate crew to carry this compelling message
of health, kindness and opportunity. As long as
we keep voting with our dollars and demanding
HEMP, we can win victory over many of the
troubles that plague our world.

Then we have
stagnant chi,
and just like with our patient in the example
above, this can create problems in your life.
The solution is to create some sort of movement. You don’t need perfect order. In fact this
expectation usually inhibits people from doing
anything at all about their piles of stuff. It should
be like sticking an acupuncture needle in—just
place it and get some movement. For instance,
you could start by putting things in neat piles,
and on a different table. Go ahead, get your
hands into the stuff. Move it around. Now you
have some chi Áow. You might be amazed at how
much difference this can make.
And please know that it’s also possible to
have stagnation in the midst of complete order,
with everything neat as a pin. To avoid this problem, I encourage my clients to move the art and
decorations in their house at least every change
of seasons. This keeps the chi Áowing.

ou see it all the time in
feng shui books—move
your stuff, get rid of
your clutter, empty out your closets! The weight of all our unused
stuff, we are told, is ruining our
love lives and wrecking our Ànances. Most of
us have carried the burden of clutter at one time
or another, and some of us feel positively buried,
if not by the stuff at least by the guilt it brings
on. So I’d like to give you a slightly different
perspective—it’s not about the clutter, it’s the
lack of movement. There is a Àne distinction.
Chi (energy) needs to move. If it’s not
moving, it can cause pathology. We see this all
the time in Chinese medicine. In medicine, it’s
called stagnant chi; and it can be the source of all
sorts of problems from pain to tumors. When an
acupuncturist uses needles, they’re encouraging
the chi to Áow again in a nice regular pattern.
Good chi Áow creates good health.
It’s the same in feng shui. There should
be a balance between stability and Áow in your
house. Typically every house has a little of both.
For instance, large pieces of furniture tend to
stay in one place (stability), while lightweight
things like decorative items and plants tend to
get moved around (Áow). The problem comes

answer was a reminder to live my life
more fully in gratitude. The simple act of
gratitude in our daily lives has the power
to transform any situation, relationship
or personal challenge.
Last year, Barry and I were having
a difficult time financially. The economic
situation of our country suddenly affected us in a big way. We wondered
if we could hold onto our home and
continue to pay college payments for
our son. At the same time all three of
our dogs and our elderly cat had major
veterinary expenses, our car broke
down and needed a lot of repairs, and
Barry found out that he needed a very
expensive dental procedure. It was not
a happy time for us.
During the biggest crisis, we sat
on our couch one Sunday morning and
pledged to not do anything else until we
had spoken everything for which we
were grateful. We stayed there for over
an hour. Once we started the gratitude
process, we could hardly stop. At the
end of that time, we saw and felt how
truly abundant we really were. True,
the money was not coming in, but we
were rich in other ways that were important to us. We held onto this feeling
of abundance, even when our financial
situation worsened. The gratitude saw
us through a very difficult time and
eventually things turned around for us
financially as well.
A practice we do as a couple every
day is to notice and thank each other.
Sometimes, it is in the area of simple
things like doing the wash or computer
work. And then, there is also the deeper
gratitude and appreciation of being able
to be each other’s partner. We have a
friend whose husband was injured when
his private plane crashed thirteen years
ago. He suffered brain damage among
other injuries. He is confined to a wheel
chair, cannot talk, and communicates
very little through a special device. His
THE VALUE
OF
DEEP SELF-CONNECTION
by Maghi Thurlow RMT
s I was having an intimate
conversation with myself the
other day, I appreciated the
calming effect of quality alone time
and encouraged myself to take more
opportunities for deep self-connection.
Dr. Gabor Mate, in his book,
When the Body Says No, Exploring
the Stress-Disease Connection, states
“Health rests on three pillars: the body,
the psyche, and the spiritual connection. To ignore anyone of them is to
invite imbalance and dis-ease.”
Most of us stay busy with external concerns and often forget to get
in touch with our inner experience. I
suggest the following self-connecting
practices to help support all of these
three pillars.
Grounding: Our bodies are part
of the earth and thrive when given the
opportunity to contact the ground and
other natural elements. Go barefoot on
grass or sand. Sit or lie on the earth.
Garden. Spend time in nature. Receive
nurturing human touch, massage, or
other bodywork. Pet animals. Take hot
baths. Stop and smell the roses.
A
wife cares for him on a daily basis. She
could understandably feel like a victim
of circumstances or even want to leave
the relationship for a more exciting life.
Instead, she has transformed the situation through gratitude. She is grateful
that he is still alive and grateful for each
tiny communication that comes from
him. She is grateful they can continue
their love in a silent way communicated
through eye contact. Her sense of gratitude has transformed the tragedy into a
sacred place of love. We recommend the
practice of gratitude to all couples who
come to see us in counseling or in our
workshops. Those that have taken up
this practice notice a beautiful change
in their relationship.
We have also used gratitude in
raising our three children. Throughout
their childhoods, we have thanked them
for the amazing gifts they have given us.
I never wanted them to feel a sense of
guilt for all we have given them through
our time and money, which is sizeable if
you consider private school and college
costs. But I wanted them to know that the
gifts they have given us just by being our
children have transformed our lives. We
have a male friend whose mother is never
happy with the amount of times he calls
her. When he calls his mother, she typically remarks, “After all I have done for
you, the least you could do is to call me
more often.” Imagine if this man called
his mom and instead she said something
like, “I am so happy to hear your voice. I
feel so blessed to have had the privilege
to be your mother, for you have brought
me so much joy.” He would probably
call her every day. It is never too late to
thank your child for the wonderful gift
of their presence in your life.
Barry and I have a very old hot tub
that we go in every night before going
to sleep. Lately we have been using that
time together to discuss business concerns. In my time in Assisi, I received
Creativity/expressive movement:
This may include dancing, painting,
writing, or any other creative activity.
Creativity can activate inner movement. As we express through creation,
we encourage internal freedom from
stagnant patterns of thought and feeling. We can know ourselves better
when we allow the flow of creativity
to move through us.
Listening/self-inquiry: Taking the
time and quiet space to explore our
interior landscape can be very helpful
in re-establishing our inner equilibrium
and sense of self-empowerment.
Holistic therapist, Dr. Joann
Peterson, said, “Boundaries and autonomy are essential for health.” She
explained, “Boundaries are invisible,
the result of a conscious, internal felt
sense defining who I am. Asking ourselves, ‘in my life and relationships,
what do I desire, want more of, or less
of, or what I don’t want, what are my
stated limits?’ begins the process…. In
this self-definition, we define what we
value and want in life at this particular
time from a place of internal self-reference; the locus of control is from inside
our selves.”
the message to bring just one more part
of my life into gratitude, and I would be
making a major step in my spiritual and
emotional well being. I chose that hot
tub time. Those 15-30 minutes in the
hot tub are no longer used as a business
meeting. Now we are spending the time
in gratitude, reflecting on all the gifts of
the day, so that when we fall asleep, we
will sleep with this feeling of gratitude.
It is a simple practice and doesn’t require
any more time, yet I truly believe it is
blessing us.
In what way can you add this
quality of gratitude on a daily basis? Is
there something you do every day that
could be turned into a gratitude time? St
Francis always greeted people with the
phrase, “Pace e Bene,” which means
peace and goodwill. I truly believe that
gratitude has the power to bring about
Pace e Bene within our hearts.

Presence: Is especially valuable
when focused on self-connecting. In an
environment that is peaceful, without
distractions or demands, you can allow
your inner voice to communicate deeply.
If strong feelings need to come through,
I recommend being present with them.
Letting them flow out will likely be a
cleansing experience.
I believe these types of self-connecting practices are some of the most
powerful preventative medicine we can
use. When we become grounded and
get in touch with these often seldom
seen parts of ourselves, we can release
blockages allowing our innate health
to manifest.
Using approaches like these we can
progressively acquire the healthy boundaries, autonomy, and self-empowerment
that allow us to successfully strengthen
our three pillars of body, psyche, and
spiritual connection.

GOVERNOR BROWN SIGNS LAW TO ALLOW
CHILDREN TO CONSENT TO GARDASIL VACCINE
C
alifornia Governor Jerry Brown
has signed into law a bill that
removes parental consent for
vaccinating children 12 and older against
sexually transmitted diseases. Although
state law already allows children 12 and
older to consent to treatment for sexually
transmitted diseases without parental
involvement, the new law expands that
right to immunizations. If it is marketed
like the Flu Shot, children will probably be rewarded with an iPod, if they
consent.
The new law is strongly opposed
by many organizations that believe that
minors do not have adequate judgment to
make a decision about vaccinations and
that the children would put themselves
at risk of many long-term, serious sideeffects that include death and paralysis
for a possibly useless vaccine. Nothing
that a little slick marketing would not
overcome.
There are many questions about
the effectiveness of the vaccine and
how much the drug companies worked
to influence the introduction and passage of this bill. Many members of the
state senate and assembly who voted
to approve the legislation also received
money last year from Merck. This group
included representative Toni Adkins,
who introduced the bill and earlier this
summer denied that she ever received
money from the drug maker. http://www.

Uncovered FDA Documents Reveal
26 More Gardasil Deaths—Anthony
Gucciardi Infowars.com
Judicial Watch, a public-interest
group that has leaked countless government reports, has recently uncovered
FDA documents that reveal an additional
26 deaths associated with Merck’s HPV
vaccine Gardasil.
In addition to the 26 deaths occurring between Sept. 1, 2010, and Sept. 15,
2011, the adverse-reaction reports also
detail a number of severe side effects
including seizures, paralysis, blindness,
pancreatitis, speech problems, shortterm memory loss and Guillain-Barré
Syndrome.
The documents add to the mountain
of evidence that Gardasil is one of the
most deadly vaccinations ever pushed
on young children. Gardasil has already
been linked to more than 49 deaths and
thousands of negative reactions. http://
naturalsociety.com/3-girls-dead-othershospitalized-after-gardasil-hpv-vaccine/.
These FDA documents simply add more
reason to discontinue the Gardasil vac-
cine, however even in the face of compelling evidence, it is actually being more
widely distributed than ever. This is due
to the corrupt nature of Gardasil manufacturer Merck, who utilized financial
incentives to help pass a popular California law that allows children as young
as 12 to receive the Gardasil shot without
parental consent. http://naturalsociety.
com/merck-paid-legislators-to-passmandatory-gardasil-vaccine-bill/.
Even beyond the large-scale political deception, Merck is actively deceiving consumers as well. By omitting the
death link and serious side effects from
their Gardasil advertisements, Merck is
tricking consumers into thinking that the
popular HPV shot is virtually harmless.
http://naturalsociety.com/deceptivegardasil-ad-campaign-omits-deathlink-facts/.
In fact, on the official Merck website, there is no mention of death, seizures, or even Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
Instead, Merck lists the most common
symptoms as the only symptoms outside
of allergic reaction. According to Merck,
these symptoms include: pain, swelling,
itching, bruising, and redness at the
injection site, headache, fever, nausea,
dizziness, vomiting, and fainting.
Of course, this is absolutely false,
and more severe symptoms were identified long before these recently uncovered FDA documents. www.bmj.
com/content/334/7605/1182.1.extract.
Between May 2009 and September
2010 alone, Gardasil was linked to 3,589
harmful reactions and 16 deaths. Of the
3,589 adverse reactions, many were
debilitating. Permanent disability was
the result of 213 cases; 25 resulted in the
diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome;
and there were 789 other “serious”
reports according to FDA documents.
None of these are discussed on Merck’s
website, or even in their widely-distributed print ads.
It seems that Merck is deceiving
consumers into thinking Gardasil is safe
through the intentional omission of vital
facts. These leaked FDA documents
reveal even more deaths caused by
Gardasil, yet medical professionals still
recommend the shot to their patients.
Even more unbelievable is the fact
that HPV is only responsible for 1% of
cancer deaths, while 70% of all HPV
infections resolve themselves within
a year. That number increases to 90%
after two years. http://naturalsociety.
com/3-girls-dead-others-hospitalizedafter-gardasil-hpv-vaccine/.
The Gardasil shot is simply not
worth the risk of paralysis, death, or
countless other side effects.

As it was only
intended as a preliminary investigation, the
questionnaire did not ask what kind of
sodas the teens drank, he said.
“This is one of the very first
studies to examine” the question, said
Hemenway.
“We don’t know why (there is
this strong association). There may
be some causal effect, but it’s also
certainly plausible that this is just a
marker for other problems—that kids
who are violent for whatever reason,
they tend to smoke more, they tend
to drink more alcohol and they tend
to maybe drink more soft drinks. We
just don’t know.
“We want to look at it more carefully in following studies.”
The study, published in a British
journal, Injury Prevention, will revive
memories of the “Twinkie Defense,”
a US legal landmark in which a killer
successfully argued that his behavior had been swayed by eating junk
food.
The defendant in this case, Dan
White, had been charged with homicide. His lawyer’s successful pleading
led to conviction of a lesser charge, of
voluntary manslaughter.
Several studies elsewhere have
established a link between very high
sugar consumption and lack of social
bonding or irritable and anti-social
behavior.
Some diet research has also
pointed the finger at the lack of micronutrients as a source of aggression, but
this work is still in its early stages.

TEEN VIOLENCE LINKED TO HEAVY SODA DIET: STUDY
by Richard Ingham
esearchers in the USA said
on Tuesday they had found a
“shocking” association if only
a statistical one—between violence
by teenagers and the amount of soda
they drank.
High-school students in innercity Boston who consumed more than
five cans of non-diet, fizzy soft drinks
every week were between nine and
15% likelier to engage in an aggressive act compared with counterparts
who drank less.
“What we found was that there
was a strong relationship between how
many soft drinks that these inner-city
kids consumed and how violent they
were, not only in violence against peers
but also violence in dating relationships, against siblings,” said David
Hemenway, a professor at the Harvard
School of Public Health.
“It was shocking to us when we
saw how clear the relationship was,”
he told AFP in an interview.
But, he stressed that only further
work would confirm—or disprove—
the key question whether higher
consumption of sweet sodas caused
violent behavior.
The new study was based on
answers to questionnaires filled out by
1,878 public-school students aged 14
to 18 in the inner Boston area, where
Hemenway said crime rates were much
higher than in the wealthier suburbs.
The overwhelming majority of
respondents were Hispanic, AfricanAmerican or mixed; few were Asian
or Caucasian.
R
Among the questions were how
much carbonated non-diet soft drink,
measured in 12-ounce (355-millilitre)
cans, the teens had drunk in the previous seven days.
They were also asked whether
they drank alcohol or smoked, carried
a weapon or showed violence towards
peers, family members and partner.
What emerged, said Hemenway,
was evidence of “dose response,”
in other words, the more soda was
consumed, the likelier the tendency
towards violence.
Among those who drank one or
no cans of soft drink a week, 23% carried a gun or a knife; 15% perpetrated
violence towards a partner; and 35%
had been violent towards peers.
At the other end of the scale,
among those who drank 14 cans a
week, 43% carried a gun or a knife;
27% had been violent towards a
partner; and more than 58% had been
violent towards peers.
Overall, teens who were heavy
consumers of sugary fizz were between
nine and 15 percentage points likelier
to show aggressive behavior compared
with low consumers, even when ethnicity and other confounding factors
were taken into account.
This is a magnitude similar to the
link found, in previously researched,
with alcohol or tobacco.
Hemenway said the study had
included a couple of questions aimed
at taking a child’s home background
into account, including whether the
teen had taken a meal with his family
in the previous days.

HERE IS NO greater force in
the world. The most divine
vibrations that one can
experience are GRATITUDE and
LOVE.
Be it love for self or love for
another—to give and share
unconditionally with gratitude—as well as
receive with an open heart, is indeed, the
most precious gift. Study of most myths
and religions will find a foundation rock
of belief—in love for self and all life
while living in a state of gratitude.
While the spectrum of Love is a vast
array— it is the loving care of the body
and mind that will accelerate one into a
state of wholeness and an optimal feeling
of Oneness. Mainstream society
encourages the “follow the herd” mentality.
Air, water and food is chemically
saturated or pasteurized. Mindless
distractions and propaganda bombard the
senses via the TV, Internet and airwaves.
With the misguided educational system
and monotonous revolving door 9-5
jobs—it’s not surprising that the majority
would rather play a video game—watch
American Idol or send text messages—
rather than go for a walk in nature or
dance in the moon-light !!
When it comes to truly claiming
one’s birthright...it is only through the
internal journey of Raw, Living, Lovegiving foods—that, a Divine alchemy
will occur. With a heightened awareness
of gratitude for one’s sacred body
Gospel of Peace, is the wisdom of the
Communions. Honor and praises of
gratitude to the Angelic Elements of
Nature...and, the Cosmic Spirit of Life
were a daily philosophy and exercise
for the mind. They knew that there was
no love for others without the love for
self. As the Angel of Love Communion
says ,“For without love—a man’s heart
is parched and cracked as the bottom
of a dry well and his words are empty
as a hollow gourd...but, loving words
are as a honeycomb, sweet to the
soul”.
In the book, The Gift of Life in
the Humble Grass, Jesus says, “And, I
did moisten a handful of wheat, that the
angel of Water entered into it. The angel
of Air did also embrace it, and the angel
of Sun, and the power of the three angels
awakened also the angel of Life within the
wheat, and sprout and root were born in
each grain.” “Then, I put the awakened
wheat into the soil of the angel of Earth,
and the power of the Earthly Mother and
all her angels entered into the wheat, and
when the sun had risen four times the
grains had become grass. I tell you truly,
there is no greater miracle than this.”
The Essene were known as Master
Healers and were fueled by the Biogenic
Lifestyle Wisdom Jesus returned from
India with. They lived in the desert, yet
thrived with bountiful gardens. On a diet
of raw foods, sprouted grains and
grasses—they knew the key to optimal
longevity and lived four times longer
than the average life expectancy of their
era. Every meal they ate was one of
giving thanks. To learn more of the

Can Unforgivable Violence Ever Be Forgiven?
by John Robbins
I
T WAS ALMOST exactly five
years ago that one of the most
brutal, senseless, and
unforgivable acts of violence in U.S.
history took place.
The schoolchildren had just
returned to their classroom from
recess on the morning of October 2,
2006, when a 32-year-old milk-truck
driver named Charles Carl Roberts
backed his pickup truck up to the
front of an Amish schoolhouse in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
We may never be able to understand
what possessed Roberts that day, but
we do know, to our horror, what he
did.
He walked into the classroom
holding a 9mm handgun. He then
ordered the male students to carry
items from the back of his pickup
truck into the classroom. These
items included a shotgun, a stungun,
wires, chains, nails, tools, and a bag
which included sexual lubricant and
flexible plastic ties. There was also
a wood board with many sets of
metal eyehooks intended to be used
for securing his victims.
Roberts ordered the female
children to line up against the
chalkboard. He then released the
male students, a pregnant woman,
and three parents with infants. One
female student managed to escape,
leaving behind ten hostage, all of
them girls.
The teacher, who had somehow
also managed to escape in the
confusion, immediately raced to a
nearby farm and called 911. Within
a few minutes, police and
emergency medical personnel began
to arrive. As they did, Roberts was
using plastic ties to bind the arms
and legs of the schoolgirls he held
hostage. A group of state troopers
approached the schoolhouse, but
Roberts threatened to shoot the girls
if they did not leave immediately.
The police backed off.
A police negotiator, using the
bullhorn on his cruiser, spoke to
Roberts, asking him repeatedly to
put down his weapons and come out
of the school house. He refused.

had elapsed since Charles Carl
Roberts had first driven up to the
schoolhouse when the shooting
their sorrow and pain. One Amish
man held Roberts’ sobbing father in
his arms for nearly an hour,

began. He shot all ten of the
schoolgirls execution style, in the
back of the head. When the shots
rang out, the police immediately
rushed the building, but the shooting
stopped just as they broke through
the windows and began to force
their way inside. Roberts had killed
himself.
Three girls died at the scene, and
two others died in the next sixteen
hours. Five others were left in critical
condition, struggling for their lives.
The victims ranged in age from six to
thirteen.
Janice Ballenger, deputy coroner
in Lancaster County, told the
Washington Post that she counted two
dozen bullet wounds in one child
alone. “There was not one desk, not
one chair, in the whole schoolroom
that was not splattered with either
blood or glass,” she said. “There were
bullet holes everywhere, everywhere.”
There is probably no way most
of us could comprehend the grief and
horror that this unspeakable brutality
caused the Amish community and the
families of these innocent victims.
There are no words that can even
begin to express the violence and its
devastating toll.
But somehow, these people did
not respond with hate. They did not
cry out for revenge. Their hearts were
filled with unimaginable grief, but
they sought and found ways,
miraculously, to turn their misery
toward compassion.
Impossibly, the Amish actually
reached out to the family of the
gunman. The afternoon of the
shooting, the Amish grandfather of
one of the girls who had been
murdered publicly expressed
forgiveness toward the killer. That
same day, Amish neighbors visited the
Roberts family to comfort them in
comforting him.
The Amish didn’t hold a press
conference. They didn’t cast blame or
prepare to file lawsuits. Instead,
though their hearts were filled with
grief and shock, they reached out with
compassion to the killers’ family.
Marie Roberts, the widow of the
killer, was one of the few outsiders
invited to the funeral of one of the
Amish girls. Amish mourners were
the majority of those gathered at the
funeral of Charles Carl Roberts. And
the Amish later set up a charitable
fund for the family of the killer.
The story became the subject of
national attention. Many reporters
asked, “How could these people
forgive such a terrible, unprovoked act
of violence against innocent
children?”
It’s a good question. Part of the
answer stems from how deeply
devoted the Amish are to the teachings
of Jesus, who taught his followers to
forgive others, to place the needs of
others before themselves, and to find
peace in the reality that God can bring
good out of any situation.
This is who the Amish are. This
what they do. They try to meet evil
with good. When they are harmed,
they seek to forgive. They do their
best to embody Martin Luther King’s
recognition that “forgiveness is not an
occasional act; it is a permanent
attitude.”
The Amish are a people of few
material possessions. I’ve heard it
said, by someone obviously not drawn
to these people, that they have made
self-denial into a lifestyle. But could
they have an inner power that is
beyond the comprehension of those of
us caught up in the rat race of the
modern world?
Which brings up another
question. We live in a world where
forgiveness is often seen as a sign of
weakness, a world where revenge and
retaliation are taken for granted as an
appropriate response to evil. Could
the Amish be showing us another
possibility?
Their capacity to forgive may
seem superhuman to the rest of us.
But is it possible that Amish
forgiveness and grace have something
to teach us?
I think it’s something that Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. would have
understood, and Gandhi, too. They
taught that the most effective way to
counter violence was not to condone
it, nor to react in kind, but to respond
to it with creative nonviolence. They
knew that an eye for an eye only
makes the whole world blind. They
taught that you can hate the sin, but
you must try to love the sinner.
Becoming merciful rather than
hateful is difficult work, and can seem
all but impossible for those who have
been taught to nurse fantasies of
revenge against those who have
harmed us. We do not live in a culture
where forgiveness is given much
value. We identify justice with
payback. We have highly developed
capacities for blame.
I don’t want to sound too high
and mighty here. I can get as angry
as the next person, and I think that a
capacity for healthy and constructive
anger is a necessary part of our
emotional wholeness. Sometimes
injustice needs to be corrected, and
there are people in the world from
whom we, and our children, need
protection. Forgiveness is a process,
and shouldn’t be entered into lightly
or too soon.
But might there be something
in the Amish example that can be an
antidote to the brutality and
meanness of the world? If we are
moved by their example, could it be
because they remind us of our own
capacities to create a world where
compassion prevails, where our pain
becomes a path to greater caring?

Preventive care includes brushing
to remove plaque and any safe chew
toy which will produce an increase in
saliva in order to help eliminate the
formation of plaque. Dog biscuits and
dry pet food formulated to clean teeth
is another thing to try.
Toothpastes are available in flavors. They differ from human toothpaste because they can be safely swallowed. They also contain enzymes
that prevent mineralization of plaque
into tartar. Daily brushing is necessary
to prevent gingivitis in dogs.
As a rule, cat owners won’t look
for dental care products until kitty has
lost some teeth. That is beginning to
change. Cat owners are starting to
become as aware as dog owners about
the need for good oral hygiene.
Five Tips to Better Dental Hygiene
1. Be realistic. If you don’t plan
to brush your dog or cat’s teeth on
a daily basis, consider using other
products such as chews and specialty
dry foods.
2. Take it slow. Introduce brushing gradually. Keep sessions short and
offer praise and reassurance.
3. Fingers first, brushes later. Dip
your finger in beef bullion for dogs or
tuna water for cats and then rub the
soaked finger gently over the pet’s
mouth and teeth. Introduce the brush
later or use a finger toothbrush.
4. Learn to look for yellow or
brown buildup of tartar along the
gum line, red inflamed gums and
persistent bad breath. If you see any
of these you’ll need to get a professional cleaning before beginning
home care.
5. Use the right tools. Avoid using human toothpaste which can be
harmful to pets.

notice how you feel. You can always

DENTAL HYGIENE
by Anne Singer
et owners are learning that
healthy teeth and gums are as
much a part of wellness as are
healthy eyes, ears, etc.
Unhealthy teeth and gums can
cause many medical problems, the
most frequent are loose or broken
teeth. Loose teeth are usually a result
of plaque and calculus buildup causing the tooth to edge away from the
gum and bone. Teeth will also loosen
if a dog is fed a meat-only diet containing little calcium.
The most common problem resulting from unhealthy teeth and gums
is lack of appetite because of pain.
Part of a dog’s bad mouth odor
comes from the accumulation of
bacteria. An abscess can form causing fever, pain or swelling around
the face.
Some dogs love to chew rocks,
which of course can cause broken
teeth. Make sure your dog has toys
or chews that are strong enough but
will not break the teeth. Nylabones,
Rope Tugs, the rubber KONG are
good examples.
The removal of tartar is essential
to a healthy mouth and should be
started when the dog is still a puppy.

Then more discoveries were made of other
anomalies at the 19.5 latitude on other planets,
as well as points on Earth. At 19.5, Jupiter has
its red spot, Neptune its dark spot, Venus has its
major volcano, Alpha Regio, Sun has its peak
temperatures and sun spot activity. On Earth,
the 19.5 latitude is at the Mayan ruins in the

T
HE NEXT LEVEL of awakening of the
hearts of humanity is happening, and the
digital codes of 11-11-11 activate this
awakening on a cellular DNA level, that turns
on a sequence that will create a shift in
consciousness. These shifts will filter into our
consciousness as the energies integrate after the
alignment. This global awakening will be
taking place on all levels of consciousness, and
as there is a reformation of global consciousness,
actions towards greater unity, responsibility and
service will arise. It’s a grand time to be on
Earth, as we unite in love, truth, light, joy, and
freedom.
The 11-11-11 gateway is upon us. Many
are speaking about it and many are beginning to
feel on an energetic level the deeper awakening
that is about to occur. As we continue to move
towards 2012 and beyond, the hearts of
humanity are going through an energetic shift
from separation to an inner knowing of oneness
and a sense of unity consciousness that will
raise the vibration of this planet into its next
evolution.
This evolution is occurring on a planetary
level as well as on human level. The biology of
planet Earth and our own human biology is in a
transformation. The human DNA has stored
within it all the codes and information for this
next evolution. Awakening this dormant
information is what is happening on planet
Earth at this time. With this awakening, new
consciousness is being birthed, and with this
new consciousness comes a new era, a new way
of being that is connected with the environment
and with all life.
The Importance of 19.5

Earth in perfect harmony.
The new higher frequencies of light will
assist us in evolving into the next phase of
consciousness and light on planet Earth.
Through this gateway of light, we will be
opening into more of a timeless sequence so
that we may be more connected to our multidimensional nature, where we are in alignment
with our soul essence and creation occurs
through this connection in a sequential rhythm
that transcends the duality and illusion of time.
These digital codes, 11-11-11 will imprint
our DNA structure turning on a blueprint for a
higher state of consciousness to emerge.
Because these codes are activated within the
cellular memory of our DNA, they awaken us
to the truth of who we are, our divine purpose
as a “conscious vibrational embodied
experience.”
11-11-11 - Mars, Giza Pyramids & Sphinx
The Sphinx point and Giza Pyramids at the
29th degree will be activated by Mars during
this 11-11-11 gateway. The 29th degree of Leo,
is the Royal Gate of the Heart and is the same
degree as the Sphinx and Giza Pyramids in
Egypt. This 29th degree point on Earth is
reflected in the 29th degree within our galaxy
and connects us with the Royal Star Regulus.
Mars will be at 29 degrees Leo during the
11-11-11 gateway, holding the gateway of our
heart open to be in communion with our
celestial origins. Mars at 29 degrees, the
pyramid and sphinx point, has an even deeper
significance.
Richard Hoagland, former NASA scientist,
discovered in the early 1990’s in NASA
photographs a number of Pyramids and a face
on the surface of Mars in a region called
Cydonia. As Hoagland looked deeper into his
findings, he realized that the pyramidal
structures and the face that resembled the

Big Island of Hawaii - 19.5
The big island of Hawaii, being at 19.5
degrees within the Star Tetrahedron, is a major
portal for light codes to enter the energetic
matrix field of the Earth. Big Island Hawaii has
the most active volcano on Earth. The ancient
Hawaiian spiritual traditions is very connected
and aware of the placement of the island within
our solar system and galaxy and it’s connection
to the stars, particularly the Pleiadian star
stystem. Big island being a key access point
into the galaxy and receiving the mana of the
Lemurian energies.
Mauna Kea the volcano located at the

mountain on Earth, from the sea floor to the
top. This is where the most advanced telescopes
on the planet reside, with scientists coming
from all over the world to do their astronomy
research.

Human DNA is triggered by digital codes,
awakening genetic sequences which release
information (light) into our consciousness. This
genetic memory that is being turned on, begins
to release us from the constructs of time as we
have known it. 11-11-11 is one of the codes of
this activation process. It is part of the binary
code that is part of the matrix of this reality and
plays a role in the next phase of planetary
awakening.
This master number, digital code, is part
of the process of turning on our original
blueprint and genetic memory held within the
spiraling strands of our human DNA. These
numeric codes awaken the mind to change and
experience new levels of consciousness and
more of our infinite hu-man potential.
The 11-11-11 gateway is opening us to
receive our divine purpose as a crystalization
into the matrix of this Earth. During the 11-1111 gateway, the elemental structure of Gaia,
will be activating through 2 planetary grand
trines, one of Earth and one of Air. These grand
trines will overlay and create the perfect
harmonious structure for the new energies of
light to enter the Earth and enter our human
form, through the cellular matrix of our DNA.
Through the geometry of the 2 grand trines,
equilateral triangles, energy comes into the
The Star Tetrahedron Geometry pattern
comprised of 2 interlocking 4-sided tetrahedrons
when placed in the sphere of the Earth with one
of the apexes at the North pole, and one at the
South pole, the other apexes will touch the
sphere at 19.47 latitude (19.5) above and below
the equator.
With the Earth rotating at tremendous
speed, there has been observed a great force
occurring at the 19.47 (19.5) degrees North and
South. Volcanic activity on Earth, and on Venus
and other anomalies on Mars, Jupiter, and more
are linked to this degree of latitude and is being
considered as hyper-dimensional.
This perspective in physics links to the
knowledge of the Star Tetrahedron being a
vehicle of light moving between other
dimensions and the Earth dimension. Drunvalo
Melchizedek has brought information forward
regarding this geometry pattern as being a
vehicle of light, that our light bodies can travel
in and to actually assist us in raising our
frequency to be more vibrationally connected
with our light body.
We can consider the Star Tetrahedron, as
being part of a star gateway into and out of this
dimensional reality. Among other ancient
cultures, the Egyptian civilization considered
the tetrahedron to be a Star Gate, an interdimensional portal. The hyper-dimensional
field that is being made aware of at the 19.5
degrees latitude North & South, can be
considered a key entry point into this
dimensional reality.

ego resistance may increase as we
consciously dissolve polarity in our

Friday’s astrological alignment

with a Scorpio Full Moon is
suggesting we now learn how to live
fully as whole beings within a greater
collective—be it in a relationship, or
a family, or a member of the
community of Light! There lays the
conundrum...how to maintain our
wholeness within our greater interconnection at the same time!

19.5, Big Island Hawaii can be
considered an inter-dimensional
star gate portal and is a key access
point that receives the new light
codes of energies into the Earth.
Energies enter into the matrix field
of the Earth through certain points,
such as the 19.5, and get distributed
throughout the energetic field of the
Earth. Through the 19.5 degree
connection, the big island is linked
to the Pyramids of Mars, Venus,
Jupiter, Neptune and other sacred
portal sites on Earth and in the
Galaxy.
On 11-11-11 when Mars is at

The sacred event
11:11:11 ushers in
the reunification
of the Divine
Masculine, the
Divine Feminine with Divine Source
- forming the Trinity of Sacred
Union!
The emergence of the Threefold Flame of the Divine Trinity into
human bio-circuitry ignites the
crystalline Light of Sacred Union
into the heart chakra. Not only does
this begin to dissolve all remaining
darkness of polarity between the
male/female connection, but it raises
the vibration of the Twin Flame Love
into the highest level of Source
Presence. As the Divine Feminine
(pink flame) unites with the Divine
Masculine (blue flame) in the center
with the gold flame of Source Light,
the Trinity forges the eternal union in
our Core Pillar—igniting the upward

The Core of Competition
by Chris Smith
W
ITH THE ADVENT of
competitive martial arts has
come a resurgence of an elite
level of martial arts warriors. Warriors
are highly trained combatants who base
their existence around preparing
themselves for victory. A warrior’s time
is spent honing their skills within the
framework of a highly disciplined
lifestyle. Daily training, skills practiced
and positive imagery are all part of their
existence. Experience, gained through
conflict, sharpens the fighter’s arsenal
and makes them keenly aware of how to
better prepare for their next engagement.
Competitive games have always
played a part in keeping warriors
attuned. In ancient Hawaii, there was a
three month period each year where all
fighting ceased.
Known as the
“Makahiki”, this time was devoted
entirely to games, primarily of a martial
nature. Wrestling, boxing, and running
races were all vigorously played.
Through everyday competitive
activities, Indian children of the Great
Plains become expert warriors at a
young age. Many cultures have similar
circumstances. Professor Jigoro Kano,
who was a master of Jiu Jitsu as well as
the head of physical education in Japan
developed the sport of Judo. One of his
intentions was to devise a sport that
would allow people of all walks of life,
in particular school age children/teens,
a safe outlet for martial arts practice.
His concepts, by most standards, was a
great success. Judo went on to become
the basis of physical education in Japan
and later gained recognition as an
Olympic sport.
In this article I’d like to
address how these competitive
attributes can be of immense benefit in
our daily lives. Many martial arts offer
competitive opportunities for all ages
and skill levels. Let’s start with the
concept of preparing for victory. By
setting his/her sites on involvement in a
competitive event, the student begins
daily preparation towards victory.
With the end in mind, the athlete can
work diligently towards success. In
transferring these skills out of the dojo,
the student athlete is better able to
set, and more importantly attain, long
and short term goals. Completion of
tasks and momentum towards the
fulfillment of objectives becomes
almost guaranteed. Competitive
athletes develop the very valuable skill
of getting things done. They are not the
type to wait around for success to come
to them. Competitors learn that life is
sometimes a series of goals to be
attained. It does not matter if their goals
are mental, spiritual, physical, financial
etc, the same theory applies.
Just look around. In these current
times of great change, leaders who
have the ability to foresee victory are
greatly needed. I’m not talking about
military victory. I’m referring to
human rights victories, technological
innovations, and an end to suffering.
Visionaries will be asked to come
forth and lead many different segments
of our population into the next phase of
our existence. Think about it, we need
change on all levels. Leaders who have
the courage and foresight to make the
tough decisions in finance, health care
reform, education, nutrition...the list
goes on. I feel very confident that the
leaders and competitors we are
producing in our dojo will be well
equipped to face the challenges of the
future—Big fights that will require
skilled warriors.

My reviews of shows I saw last month.
Remember this is only my opinion.
At The Mountain Winery: My birthday
celebration began listening to Billy Idol‘s
sound check while dining on The Chateau
Deck. The bright orange harvest moon came
up over an amazing view of Silicon Valley
then we got to rock out to Billy Idol (who by
the way looks awesome). Hearing “White
Wedding”, “Rebel Yell”, and “Dancing With
Myself” live was incredible. Billy got a standing ovation the moment he walked onto the
stage, hardly anyone ever sat, and I danced
the whole concert, but not by myself!
At Michael’s on Main: Martini Unplugged is Billy Martini and Steve Allison
performing memorable and danceable but
uncommon covers, including The Beatles’
“Back In The USSR” and Steve Miller
Band’s “The Joker”, among many others.
This show is much different from The Billy
Martini 70’s Tribute or The Originals Show.
So much talent and you can experience it
in so many different renderings. Be sure to
see this version.
At Vino Locale (Palo Alto): Greg
Smith, a talented guitar instrumentalist
performed a blend of bebop, blues, and
sometimes rock solo pieces at this popular
wine bar’s re-opening weekend (new owners). I danced in my seat, sipping Santa
Cruz Mountain wines and sampling the tasty
gourmet victuals.
At The Windjammer: It’s a true testament to a band when the friendly competition comes out to see you play. No names,
but even dressed as the White Rabbit from
“Alice in Wonderland”, Vinny Johnson is
clearly a highly respected local musician,
and The Vinny Johnson Band just plain
sounds awesome! Catch one of VJB’s shows
mentioned above. You need the funk! Gotta

Notes: pervasive alcohol and drug use
hat is it with Johnny
Depp and rum…?
In Pirates of the Caribbean he wonders why the
rum is “always gone,” and
here he almost drowns in
it. The story is based on
the debut novel by legendary “Gonzo” journalist
Hunter S. Thompson, his
first book (though not
published until 1998),
set in the early 1960s in
Puerto Rico, when he was
a cub reporter. This period
piece rambles along like
some low-key, forgotten,
Caribbean escape, ultimately going nowhere,
with plenty of gruesome
scenes and alcoholic
characters (just partying
in those days). But the director also highlights messages of righteousness
and taking on “the good
fight” despite the need
to appease incumbent
interests. Thompson’s
anti-authoritarian streak
is present in Depp’s portrayal, as “Ugly American”
business interests attempt
to corrupt what remains of
our hero’s ethical backbone. Wildly talented
Johnny Depp delivers
Thompson intact in this
semi-autobiographical
tribute, it otherwise gets
lost in the haze of booze
and drugs (2 hrs).

Radiation, Cancer, & Emotional Trauma

3. A) The Emotional or
Physical
Trauma
that
disordered the nervous
system? Yes, the nervous
system can be rebalanced
through holistic healing
techniques. More below.
Is it possible to change
any of these factors?
1.
Genetic
Predisposition?
Radiation alters our genes and
gene expressions. That is why
protection is so important.
Currently,
available
technologies cannot reverse
altered genes. In addition we
all
have
predisposing
information in our cells.
2.
The Tumor itself? We can
use many substances that can
reduce or even kill tumor
cells. We can use vaccines,
chemotherapy,
hormone
inhibitors, radiation (as if we
need more), and plant
substances. But, in reality, the
true way to health is to reduce
B) Diet, thinking habits? Yes!
Nutraceuticals quickly alter
body chemistry and aid liver,
intestinal and kidney function,
as well as changing the pH of
the tissues. Use of antioxidants
such as Turmeric and
Resveratrol to restrain the
system from metastasis or
threat of spread and recurrence
is also highly recommended.
Negative thought patterns can
be unlearned.
In short, see a specialized

scientific
adjunct-diagnostic
equipment such as those that can

findings, and work with and around

Geiger Readings taken from

California show a 25% increase in
average counts per minute in the
past 2 months. My Geiger readings
(see www.fortifyhealth.com) show
from July/August of 35 CPM to 45

Cancer is Connected to
Nervous System Function
Many studies have established
the vulnerability of the regulation of
the nervous system based on past
emotional and physical trauma. A
decrease in our nervous system’s
ability to control the health of our
organs may lead to an increase in
internal toxic chemicals that trigger
cancers. Since nervous system
function is directly related to
trauma, cancer and trauma are often
intricately linked. Radiation can
also affect nervous system function
by destroying brain cells.
A simple chart of the
mechanisms involved is…

Smart Meter Hazards
EMF/ RF Radiation
by Devin J. Werhman & Boyd L. Benson
re you worried about Smart Meter
radiation? Many of us, in our community, are very concerned and for
some very good reasons. PG&E has stated
that Smart Meters emit microwave radiation
that is about one hundred times less than your
average cell phone.
The truth is very different according
to Daniel Hirsch, Senior Lecturer on Nuclear
Policy at UCSC. It is his contention that
flawed means of testing were used by PG&E
as well as the “independent study” called for
by California Legislators who requested an
independent, science-based study on this matter. Their concern was that they were hearing
from PG&E that there was nothing to worry
about and they wanted a disinterested party to
look at this matter. The problem was that they
simply reproduced the same results found by
the Electric Power Research Institute who
were the same people used by PG&E for
their own study.
Secondly, these test results by comparing cell phone radiation to the ear with Smart
Meter radiation to the whole body—failed to
consider the accumulative exposure, as well
as the flawed, assumed duty-cycles with use
of these devices. His conclusion is that if
you correct the testing data, the results are
that Smart Meters emit 100 times more than
a cell phone does of this kind of (non-ionizing) radiation. If you Google Daniel Hirsch
UCSC and look at Daniel Hirsch on CCST’s
‘Fuzzy Math’, you can see an interview and
look at the chart produced by the California
Council on Science and Technology and
Daniel’s corrected chart. You may become
alarmingly surprised by his findings. Daniel
is not saying there may be a link to cancer,
but what he is saying is that this is an issue
of the body’s accumulation of this type of
radiation and has called for a correction of
CCST’s final report.
So, what can anyone do about this
problem? Even if you do not have a Smart
Meter on your property, your neighbor’s

homes might and that meter may be aimed directly into your bedroom. In fact, if you live in a
condo or in an apartment building, you may have
seven, eight, or more of these devices radiating
powerfully (usually mounted head high) as far
as 30 feet into your home. This type of pulsed
non-ionizing radiation is not the same as nuclear
radiation which is ionizing energy. Many people
have noticed symptoms such as headaches, nausea, insomnia, fatigue, low energy, joint pain,
inability to concentrate as well as many others.
Some highly sensitive people are very much more
affected, as well as small children and they are
at a much elevated risk.
The good news is that we may protect
ourselves from harmful radiation. There are now
a variety of materials and technologies available
to mitigate these potentially harmful situations
in our environment.
Devin J. Werhman and Boyd L. Benson
are the owners of Werhman-Benson EMF/RF
Shielding and are long time residents of Santa
Cruz County. They have done extensive practical
testing of EMF/RF radiation and shielding. Both
have decades of experience dealing with hazardous materials, and issues concerning both the
EPA and OSHA compliance. Devin is currently
enrolled in a Bachelor of Science Degree in
computer engineering sciences. Through many
years of self-study, they both have an extensive
understanding of EMF/RF non-ionizing/ionizing
radiation and many other health and environmental issues. Their company is located in Soquel.
They are now equipped to assess your residential
and commercial shielding needs and to implement cutting edge strategies for non-ionizing
radiation mitigation. Some of the products they
use, have the added benefit of being powerfully
efficient sound barriers as well. Their mission
statement is to protect family, friends and community from EMF/RF radiation. Please see their

California 2012 GMO Labeling Campaign
Keeping the message cohesive. It is important to focus on 4 things:
Call for New Classes
1). GMOs have not been exhaustively
studied or proven safe, they contaminate an
estimated 70% of the food supply; and since
they are unlabeled there is no way to track
negative health effects. The few studies that
have been done have demonstrated systemwide damage to lab animals fed GMOs, with
many of the negative effects appearing after
just 10 days. Damages include: immune
system impairment, abnormal cell growth,
measurable changes in brain, liver, testicles,
intestines, and pancreas. Longer term feeding
studies found infertility, stunted growth, and
high infant mortality in lab animals.
2). Labeling of GMO foods will allow
the informed consumer to avoid those foods if
they choose to do so. Without labeling, there
is no way to opt out of what is essentially a
large scale feeding experiment on US citizens.
By labeling GMOs, consumers will be able to
vote with their wallets. No matter your belief,
whether pro or anti-GMO, we should all be
able to agree on labeling.
3). The EU and many other countries
require labeling of GMO foods. Due to
consumer rejection of these foods, about 5%
of the food sold in the EU is GMO. Why
should we be denied the same level of knowledge
that our European counterparts have access to.
Aren’t we supposed to be the free-est country
in the world?
4). State ballot initiatives offer a powerful
and deceptively simple response to the problem
of corporate power. The California 2012 Mandatory GMO Labeling Initiative is how we WILL
make GMO labeling a reality. California represents 10% of the nation, and other states follow
us. We are at the crest of a wave—let’s ride it!

Methyl Iodide NOT OUR
Environmental Fate
Attend the Nov. 8th w/the Board of Supervisors!
by Karen Lacey
n California’s - Department of Pesticide
Regulation website there is a page titled
Environmental Fate. I wonder if the Federal Government has considered—that although
most of the people who control our Earth’s commerce think of themselves as untouched by the
decisions they make—realize that they too are
SUBJECT to the same Environmental Fate they
are creating for us.
I have been following the progress Arysta
LifeScience Corp. has made regarding the pesticide Methyl Iodide since 2009.
It has been interesting to see how a chemical comes to market—until 2009 I never cared.
The product name for Methyl Iodide is
MIDAS® (Like the Greek tragedy of the king
who killed his daughter and everything he
touches. It is a good name, MIDAS® —at least
they are letting us know how deadly it is.)
I had no idea why it needed so many
names or why it was so important to so many
people. It just killed bugs didn’t it? Nobody likes
bugs anyway so what was the big deal?
But then, I heard a young scientist say that
in the lab where they worked Methyl Iodide is a
0 release toxin. Under NO circumstances is it to
be released into the environment in measurable
quantities. I thought OMG!
The pesticide distributor Arysta LifeScience Corp., is telling our farmers and our state
government that Methyl Iodide will be safe if the
farmers apply it in a way that is just not humanly
possible. The last Governor allowed MeI to be
registered in our state and last week, North Santa
O
Barbara County granted a permit to spray Methyl
Iodide on a strawberry field, we’re next!
We who advocate for public health need to
be active in this, the permit has been put on hold
because the public is aware and will not willingly
be poisoned. The permit for initial injection of the
pesticide was issued before Oct.18th for: G&S
Farms near the town of Guadalupe, CA.
The date had to be rescheduled and is
now on hold pending additional permit review
by County Ag. Commissioner, Cathy Fisher. The
law firm, Earthjustice, stopped the application of
this deadly pesticide. Californians for Pesticide
Reform believe the permit violates California
Environmental Quality Act.
I began attending the Food and Agriculture
Hearings in June 2010. I heard testimony from
five prominent scientists. The first,
Theodore Slotkin, Ph.D. Professor of
Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, ... at Duke
University Medical Center. He’s amazing, he
wasn’t opposed to all pesticides. But, he said
Methyl Iodide “alarms me”. and “There’s no
question that Methyl Iodide is neurotoxic. ...” I
also found testimony that Methyl Iodide becomes
methanol and iodide anion when it mixes with
groundwater. Methanol is a Greenhouse gas,
right? We don’t want it on our groundwater?

ASTROLOGY
FOR
NOVEMBER 2011
N
ovember brings us into the deep
waters of Scorpio. Feelings intensify, power struggles increase as
people position themselves in relation to
each other. Values are challenged. This
is an excellent time to expose what has
been hidden, to the light of day. Time to
let go of tightly held identities, so that
change and transformation can take
place. With the Uranus Pluto lineup still
in place, accentuating revolution and
breakdown, the Scorpio energy can
intensify the needs and demands of
polarized sides. As Venus and Mercury
enter Sagittarius on November 2nd, discussion of philosophy and belief systems
increase. The full moon takes place on
November 10th, in earthy Taurus. Issues
dealing with financial security and values
are in the forefront, along with environmental concerns.
Mars enters earthy and practical
Virgo on the 10th, leaving the leadership
fire sign, Leo. We can see that this Leo
Mars fueled Obama’s ability to take leadership, as it also did for Herman Cain,
who has much fire in his natal chart.
As Mars settles into hardworking, detail
orientated Virgo, it will be interesting to
watch what evolves. Mars’ sojourn in
Virgo cultivates a lengthy period of down
to earth productive work. This is because
Mars will stay in Virgo until the beginning of July, 2012. Usually Mars travels
through a sign in 2 months. The long stay
in Virgo maps out a period of devotion to
the work that needs to be accomplished.
Our need for recognition fades, as service to the greater good, and devotion
to our goal, is emphasized. This sets the
stage for the 11/11/11 global meditation
event. (See www.crystalinks.com, the
event, Fire the Grid). The unique numerology of this day marks a collective
visioning point for humanity to link up and
HOROSCOPES

visualize a healthy, regenerated earth
and global community. The number 1
holds the energy for the emergence of
an enlightened consciousness of which
we can all share.
On November 16th, active Mars
aligns with Jupiter in Taurus, the sign of
money, banking and the earth. Mars then
begins its lineup with Pluto on the 23rd.
This marks one of two powerful turning
point times in transforming the banking
systems or financial outlooks. This lineup
also brings forward visionary thinkers
and doers in the green movement. On a
personal level, there can be great devotion and perseverance to a task, goal or
project at this time. This is the time as the
I Ching says, “Perseverance furthers”.
Be patient and take things one day at a
time with your goal and intention in sight.
Next June will bring the first rewards of
your persistence.
On November 22nd, the Sun enters fiery and philosophical Sagittarius,
NOVEMBER 2011: 12 OPPORTUNITIES
by Melanie Gendron
Aries: Mar. 21—Apr. 19: This will be
an interesting month for you. Use the
time for discovering facets of yourself
that you have forgotten or overlooked
recently. Though there are challenges,
overall, you seem to be in control of
your destiny and feeling pretty good
about the path that you are on.
Taurus: Apr. 20—May 20: Close relationships are intensified. Either you
or your partner shall demand a deeper
unification. What you have to say may
be too honest for the ears that hear it.
Not saying what’s on your mind could
result in you reacting with an illness, like
a sore throat, so remember to be as diplomatic as possible.
Gemini: May 21—June 20: Your task
is not to seek for love, but merely to seek
and find all the barriers within yourself
that you have built against it. Discussions may turn into arguments. If latter
is the case, it’s likely that you are taking
things very personally right now, or perhaps you are deliberately imposing your
beliefs and ideas. Best to lighten up.
Cancer: June 21—July 22: You
could feel greatly inspired this month, as
you discover a deeper side to yourself.
You are able to negotiate some lucrative commercial agreements and business partnerships—and you might even
start a new job or launch a major new
project.
FOR
GROWTH
Leo: July 23—Aug. 22: Despite the
holiday feasting about to enter our lives,
you are in a great place emotionally to
begin working on a fitness routine. Your
powers of magnetism and attraction
shall see new heights this month. At this
time, you intuitively know how to position yourself in the best light in order to
make a good impression on others.
Virgo: Aug. 23—Sept. 22: You are
meant to have fun, get creative, fall in
love, laugh, play, dance, sing, and share
your joyful heart with your favorite people. However, vital correspondence and
contacts must not be neglected. Uranus
in your Seventh House of Marriage and
Partnerships could upset the apple cart.
Libra: Sept. 23—Oct. 22: Avoid allowing the ego to challenge or dictate
others. You lead rather than follow, and
there are ways to do so without stepping
on others’ toes. The friends you choose
now might prove to your advantage in
the long run.
Scorpio: Oct. 23—Nov. 21: It is a
lovely time for social, commercial, and
networking opportunities. So, whatever
it is that was challenging your work and
finances seems to be resolving pretty
quickly. Financial security and enjoyment of the good things in life are important to you, although you also value
simple pleasures. The ability to relate
well with others might enhance your own
personal finances during this period.

Everywhere we look on the political landscape, we are faced with laughthreatening seriousness ... terrorism and

to do is set a new precedent—and a new
President will follow. Because if we only do
what we’ve always done, we’ll only get what
we’ve always gotten. So here are some
new precedents to vote for:
Sagittarius: Nov. 22—Dec. 21:
This year’s Sagittarius New Moon not
only encourages a “new you” presentation, but also brings more joy and happiness into your life as well. Your mind
will be uplifted to higher knowledge and
the wisdom that comes with it. You are
more willing to listen, to be patient and
understanding. Changes initiated now
may prove beneficial in the long run, both
materially and otherwise.
Capricorn: Dec. 22—Jan. 19: With
Mars in your First House of Self, you
could be brimming with energy. Avoid
secret dealings and behind the door activities, especially the ones that are not
clearly legitimate and justifiable. It can be
better to be motionless and still, so you
can feel the wind changing, than to row
in the wrong direction.
Aquarius: Jan. 20—Feb. 18: Your vision is practical right now, and you want
to see tangible results for your efforts.
More contact with authority figures is
likely. Recognition may come your way
whether you ask for it or not, and the responsibility that comes right along with it!
Do what you feel is right.
Pisces: Feb. 19—Mar. 20: Your love

NOV. TAROT CARD: XI JUSTICE
MEANING: EQUITY, FAIRNESS
rue Justice abides in purity of spirit.
Maintain equanimity as you weigh
issues impartially to arrive at a fair
decision or compromise. Action geared
toward the balance of life invites right,
just action. Physics states that every
action has an opposite and equal reaction. Karmicly, we do sow what we reap.
Internal urges seek evolutionary change
to obtain balance and develop personal
goals. This is an opportunity to stabilize
one’s energy by consciously balancing
rest and activity, heart and mind, or
spirituality and materialism.
The patterns of victim, abuser and
savior perpetuate suffering. Ignoring or
resisting proactive growth and change
cultivates negativity and inertia. An imbalance between feeling and thinking,
followed by its alignment with revolutionary, visionary Uranus, on the 23rd.
Expect demonstrations, and rebellions
to increase, with the demands now being clarified and communicated. On the
24th, a Solar Eclipse, new moon, takes
place. It is called a Supermoon because
it is closest to the earth and in perfect
alignment with both earth and sun. The
lunar effect will increase. People can feel
more emotional, more inspired, more
tired or energized. On the 26th, Venus
enters Capricorn, joining the planets in
the earth signs, continuing the focus on
achieving our goals.

FEDS ANNOUNCE CRACKDOWN
by John Hoeffel, Los Angeles Times
alifornia’s US attorneys say they
are going after for-profit marijuana
sellers. Advocates of the sales say
they are concerned about buyers with
health needs.
The Obama administration’s crackdown on California’s highly profitable
medical marijuana industry represents
a dramatic departure from the low-key
approach it has long pursued.
California’s four US attorneys said
Friday that they are taking aim at largescale growers and dispensary owners
who are raking in millions of dollars while
falsely claiming that their medical marijuana operations comply with state law,
which does not allow for-profit sales.
In the early days of President
Obama’s tenure, Atty. Gen. Eric Holder
announced that prosecutors would not
target medical marijuana users and
caregivers, as long as they followed
state laws. But as the risk of prosecution
diminished, storefront dispensaries and
enormous growing operations proliferated in California, often in brazen defiance
of zoning laws and local bans....
The step comes as the Obama
administration has been steadily ratcheting up enforcement efforts. Last month,
a federal firearms official sent a letter to
gun dealers warning them against selling
to medical marijuana users. The last bank
in Colorado willing to handle money from
dispensaries closed those accounts last
week, concerned about federal prosecution. And the Internal Revenue Service
has begun to order some dispensaries
to pay millions of dollars in back taxes
and penalties, ruling that they can’t deduct expenses because their business
is illegal.
The prosecutors, who held a news
conference in Sacramento to underscore
their commitment to the campaign, said
they are trying to enforce federal laws
while respecting the intent of the state’s
voters, who passed the nation’s first
initiative to allow marijuana for medical
purposes.
Andre Birotte Jr., the Los Angelesbased US attorney for the Central District,
noted that his Southern California region
is home to the highest concentration of
dispensaries in the nation. “We have yet
to find a single instance in which a marijuana store was able to prove that it was a
not-for-profit organization,” he said.
ON
CALIFORNIA POT SALES
Medical marijuana advocates,
including state Sen. Mark Leno (D-San
Francisco), decried the intensified enforcement effort. “The concern here is
that the intimidation factor will directly
impact safe and affordable access for
patients,” he said.
The sudden escalation has baffled
advocates who note that the use of medical marijuana now has broad popular
support, as shown in nationwide polls.
“From a political perspective, it’s hard to
see how this serves Obama’s interest,”
said Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “It feels
like it’s being driven by law enforcement
and anti-drug folks.”
The threat of stepped-up federal
prosecutions could accomplish what city
and district attorneys have so far struggled to achieve. The prosecutors are
targeting landlords who rent to marijuana
operations and could lose their property
through civil forfeiture. “That hits right
in the sweet spot because it deals with
money,” Birotte said.
The tactic was employed by the
Bush administration in 2007.... To underscore that, he announced that he has filed
lawsuits to seize buildings in Wildomar,
an unincorporated part of Montclair and
Lake Forest. The Lake Forest strip mall
has eight dispensaries.
The state’s four federal prosecutors
have each also sent dozens of warning
letters. Birotte has focused on 38 dispensaries in 13 cities where dispensaries
are not allowed and where local officials
have pleaded for help. He gave them
two weeks to start ending pot sales. In
Northern California, the prosecutor is
focusing on pot stores within 1,000 feet
of schools and playgrounds, an approach
that could threaten many dispensaries in
dense Bay Area cities.
The prosecutors also announced
some indictments. Birotte said an indictment unsealed this week seeks the forfeiture of $14.7 million, accusing six people
linked with NoHo Caregivers in North Hollywood of dealing in up to 700 pounds of
marijuana a month and selling to affiliates
in New York and Pennsylvania.
“They’re showing their muscle:
‘Here we are, we’re here, we’re coordinated, you guys better watch out,’” said
Matt Kumin, a lawyer who specializes in
medical marijuana. “The total amount of
cannabis that is cultivated in California is
not going to go down. It just goes back
underground.”
Birotte said the new strategy was
not triggered by any specific event but
was inspired by a stream of complaints
from California law enforcement officials.
The crackdown announced Friday came
after months of consultation between the
US attorneys and Justice Department
officials in Washington. The prosecutors
acknowledged that they are not getting
more money or prosecutors.
Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles
County district attorney, predicted that
intense coordination with federal prosecutors would make a huge difference.
“It’s advancing in the right direction from
our perspective,” he said. In Los Angeles,
Jane Usher, a special assistant city attorney, said her office intended to work
closely with Birotte’s. “We’re gratified that
they see what we see, which is what began as an opportunity to help seriously ill
patients has evolved into storefront drug
sales and trafficking,” she said.
California’s attorney general, Kamala Harris, declined to discuss the
announcement. Her office is revising the
medical marijuana guidelines that Jerry
Brown issued in 2008 when he was attorney general. Those guidelines note
that state law does not allow “collectives,
cooperatives or individuals to profit from
the sale or distribution of marijuana” and
advises that storefront dispensaries “may
be legal.”
Medical marijuana advocates were
also perplexed that a federal department
reporting to Obama is launching a crackdown that promises to be more fearsome
than any under former President Bush.
They believe that Obama betrayed a
commitment he made as a candidate who
casually joked about smoking marijuana
and has strayed from the issues he was
elected to address.
“They’re wasting money they don’t
have,” Leno said. “This is not the issue
of the day. This doesn’t create jobs.
This does not keep the security of the
nation intact. It doesn’t clean the environment.”
Leno said he believed the Obama
administration has missed an opportunity
to end the 15 years of legal chaos that
began in 1996 when California voters
passed Proposition 215. “If anything,
they should be demonstrating leadership
in resolving the conflict between federal
50% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT LEGALIZING MARIJUANA: POLL
(NORML) said: “Marijuana legalization is
becoming more popular with just about
everyone.” But it said more political
pressure is needed before change can
come about.
Last June, several US members of
Congress introduced legislation in Washington to legalize marijuana nationwide
but allow each state to regulate, tax and
control the drug itself. It was the first-ever
effort to legalize the production and consumption of marijuana at a national level,
although its sponsors acknowledged that
it had little chance of becoming law.

n unprecedented 50% of Americans think it’s high time that marijuana should become legal in the
United States, according to a Gallup poll
released Monday.
That’s up from 46% from a year
ago—and way up from a mere 12% in
1969, when Gallup first asked the question and 84% of respondents opposed
legalization.
“If this current trend on legalizing
marijuana continues, pressure may build
to bring the nation’s laws into compliance
with the people’s wishes,” the pollsters
said in a statement.
Support for legalization was strongest among liberals (69%), those aged
18 to 29 (62%), and those living in the
western United States (55%).
Least likely to support legalization
were those over 65 (31%), conservatives
(34%) and southerners (44%).
Gallup based its findings on telephone interviews on October 6-9 with
adults in all 50 states. Samples were
weighted by gender, age, race, education
and region, with a maximum margin of
error of plus or minus four percent.
