Chairman’s Address
May I take this opportunity to extend a big “Cead Mile Failte” to you all to this year’s
production : CALAMITY JANE .
The opening scene takes place in The Golden Garter Saloon , in Deadwood City, which
lies in the shadow of the Black Hills of Dakota.
The owner and his rowdy clientele are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the stage coach,
which has lots of fancy goods on board, and an Actress by the name of Francis Fryer. To
protect the stage coach from Indians, Calamity Jane is on board, with her rifle close at
hand. Calamity acts and dresses more like a cowboy than a woman and is prone to
exaggeration due to her many encounters with Indians that cross her path! There is one
man that she fancies, but will the course of her “secret love” run smoothly ?
Sit back, relax and enjoy your journey through “The Black Hills” via “The Windy City” !
Producer: Carmel O’Brien is a retired School
Teacher who taught for many years in the Presentation Secondary School, Ballingarry. During that time,
she produced several shows. This is her first time
working as our Producer and Choreographer. We are
very grateful to her for her dedication, patience, and
good humour throughout rehearsals over the past few
months.
Music Director: Kevin Hickey who is from
Drangan, has been our Musical Director since the
foundation of the Society. We thank him once again
for his continued support, encouragement, expertise
and dedication.
I would like to thank all the members of the cast, who come from near and far, for their
perseverance, sense of fun and for once again making this show a success.
I would also like to thank Michael Kennedy for his help this year, Larry O’Keeffe for the
supply of all the stage furniture and Clancy Construction for the supply of the generator.
Finally, I would like to say a special “Thank You’’ to the hard working committee members for their inspiration, co-operation and hard work throughout the year.
