NITEKO lamps can be equipped with a self adjusting flow , integrated in the luminaire, suitable for the control and reduction of the luminous
flux of the lamp by 20% up to 100% of the maximum value, without using dedicated cables. The device is equipped with a fully programmable
microcontroller, able to manage the power supply section of the unit, of any load of LED light sources (on, off, testing of correct operation,
adjustment of the luminous flux), the operation is based on possibility to define, by preprogramming 5 levels of brightness, on a time basis, set
by configuration software.
The system calibrates the "Midnight point" during the period of time the unit is powered, allowing , through the settings selected by the software, a reduced capacity.

Through the use of dedicated cables , with the DIM module it is possible to manage and adjust the light intensity of Niteko lamps by a 1-10V
analog signal . Using instead, the DALI interface module, it is possible an intelligent management of the light according to the specific needs of
the environment to be illuminated.
DALI is a digital communication protocol of the dimmable electronic ballasts . This new interface standard represents a system with distributed
intelligence . This means that the values of light emission of different lighting scenarios and the grouping of different light sources are stored
within the electronic power supplies . The control system has only the function to invoke a given scenario and electronic power supply, who
knows his level of light output and acts accordingly. It is possible also to call each single power supply . To ensure interchangeability between
DALI components from different manufacturers, the DALI interface has been included as Appendix E of IEC 929 rules , becoming in this way a
non-owner standard , able to meet all the requirements of modern light control.

OVERVOLTAGE
MANAGEMENT OF OVERVOLTAGEFOR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
The problem of overvoltage due to direct and indirect current
discharge is present very clearly in electronic equipments.
Are affected by this issue, all appliances powered with electronic
devices , from cameras to lighting fittings . The issue can affect any
type of installation, but it is also true that in the case of plants in
urban center or in specially protected areas , the percentage of the
problem is practically not existing. A lighting fixture installed in a
standard electrical system is often subjected to over voltage and
external interferences due to various causes: insertion of discontinuous loads on the line, fault lines in upstream or downstream ,
atmospheric discharges (lightning ) . The capacity to be protected
against overvoltage is therefore fundamental to the reliability and
proper functionality of the product, that owing to these disorders
may be damaged or malfunction . In the LED fixture , where the
electronic components are predominant , resistance to overvoltage
becomes even more necessary .
- type of system ( overhead wire or Ground)
- type of support ( metallic or not )
- supply line lengh
- insulation class ( presence of PE earth wire or of a foudation earth
for each pole , etc.).
MINIMUM PRODUCTS REQUIREMENTS
The feature of overvoltage protection is regulated by a specific
standard (EN 61547 ), which establishes the minimum levels of
product , ensuring compliance with the essential requirements of
the Directive on Electromagnetic Compatibility , mandatory for CE
marking of the product.
Based on the experience , Niteko proposes the steps that can be
taken into consideration to protect the LED products .
The LED fixtures NITEKO are equipped as standard with a surge
protection device , it is a varistor which is activated when the fitting
is subjected to a high voltage . In the case of products in insulation
class II ( no earth wire ), the device is always present, but its proper
functioning is related primarily to the type of system it is installed on
the device . The plants can be of various types, they differ mainly in
design philosophy . The issues to be considered are:
the system is in insulation class II ?
The poles are equipped with a ground connection ?
The electrical panel is equipped with a ground connection ?
The system is completely underground or has overhead wire ?
Case 1. Plant completely in insulation class II ( panel and poles
without earthing systems, generally more recent ) . In this case the
solution that better protects the equipment, is to mount on the
electrical panel an arrester voltage for each phase and provide the
electrical panel for a ground connection. Alternatively equip each
connecting pole to the ground with an appropriate voltage discharger and fuse.
SYSTEM PROTECTION
The atmosfepheric discharge are events highly uncertain .
It is not possible to foreseen:
- the location
- the intensity
- the moment when such an event will occur.
Case 2. Plant in class II , but the poles are provided with earth
connection.
In this case we propose to mount the discharger voltage directly on
in the terminal of the pole or lamp by connecting it to ground .
The protection provided on NITEKO appliances is an important
protection , but it can be in some cases not enough when the
weather events, to which the appliances are subjecte, exceed the
levels tested in the laboratory, by the surge tests above described.
In both cases, the disgarcher protects the product from surges
arriving from upstream with respect to the device.
Obviously if the over voltage comes in a direct way or from area
located downstream of the SPD device, the device is much more
vulnerable.
In final analysis , given the various types of cases and according to
the its experiance, Niteko suggests where possible, to install
equipment in insulation class I or insulation class II with a ground
pole or to a SPD.
It is important, that the system designer can choose ( coordinate )
the appropriate protection of plant taking into account:
- the characteristics of the device
- installation location , and its susceptibility to lightning (checking
for example maps of density of lightning that classify the area
accordingly to the frequency of lightning as show in the picture
below)

1.2 - Regional rules against lighting pollution
The Italian regulatory system has recently had a radical transformation due to the publication of the new European Standards on
lighting .
Moreover, in recent years many regions have issued laws against
light pollution , which content is more or less restrictive , but
tend to be similar . In general, these laws want to limit the
dispersion of light flow upward , due to the lighting fixtures
installed in areas external . Many standards, recommendations
and laws, are available today, in particular :
When a man enters light during the night in the external environment, outside of the space that is necessary to illuminate, and so
alters the amount of natural light present in this space, produces a
form of pollution called light pollution: a pollution of the natural
light product by artificial light.
Rules to limit light pollution in an effective manner:
1) The first indispensable criteria for effective limitation of light
pollution is to not overlighting. This means to limit the luminance
and illuminance level of the illuminated surfaces to what is actually necessary.
It also means not to apply more than the minimum levels required
by the rules of safety, when present, in order to ensure safety
without producing excessive light pollution.
When there are no specific rules, luminance levels should be
commensurate with those of the surrounding areas (in the best
laws and the best regulations, the limit of one candle per square
meter).
authority ;
tions of Comité Internationale de l' Eclairage ), often based on
national regulations or those of CEN .
Here below the main Rules and Legislative Requirements:
Provisions concerning the production of materials, equipment ,
Machinery , installations and electrical and electronic installations .
UNI 12665:2011 - Terms and fundamental criteria for lighting
requirements.
UNI EN 1332-1:2005 - Measurement and presentation of
photometric data of lamps and luminaires (Part 1: Measurement
and file format).
2) Foreseen the possibility of decreasing of the luminance and
illuminance levels in those hours in which the characteristics of
area use is permited. The lighting levels necessary for safety or for
the proper use of a certain type of area, indeed depend on the type
of use of the surface. If at certain hours changes the use of a
surface, lighting can be reduced (exp. When the trucks unloading
of goods is terminated in an industrial area or decreases the road
traffic ). If then, after a certain time the light is no longer used, it
would avoid unnecessary light pollution and energy waste by
turning off the system.

Requirements for the limitation of the dispersions upward of
luminous flux .
3) Minimize the direct dispersion of light by the lighting equipment
outside the areas to be illuminated. In an effective law against
light pollution is fundamental and indispensable the obligation to
use fully shielded luminaires in all plants , public and private
(ie.having an emission of 0 cd / klm at 90 degrees and beyond
compared to the vertical downward ) . In fact, even when the
luminous flux emitted upward by luminaires seems negligible
compared to that reflected from surface , in reality it is the fundamental part of the flow pollutant at a certain distance from the
source . The effects of light pollution depend on the direction of
emission. Lighting equipment and surfaces distribute their light
differently in different directions. Usually just the lighting fixtures
are the ones producing more emissions in the most polluting
directions, whose where light pollution spreads in a wider area
and adds more effectively to emissions of other plants. Therefore to
reduce the effect of lighting entries in the atmosphere is essential
to minimize, as much as possible the upward release of the equipment. This is actually achievable through a careful design and
careful selection of lighting fixtures based on their characteristics
and performance.
In addition to compliance with laws and regulations , design can
be subject to other requiremets:
UNEL and UNI Standards with respect to the materials already
unified , systems and their components , the project crieria,
execution and testing modality, etc. .

direction from any other entities (Culture, Fine Arts, the Supervisory Authorities, Municipal Technical Office), issued and

1.3 - Determination of road type
According to the current legislation, a road classification is made for the purposes of determining the applicable lighting category .
This classification applies to fixed lighting systems designed to provide users of the road , for vehicles and pedestrians, good visibility conditions
during periods of darkness , with the intent to guarantee an adequate level of safety .
Here below are reported the descriptions of the various lighting categories:
Reference Lighting category :
this category is derived directly from laws and industry standards , the classification is not normally responsibility of the designer, but the same
can help in identifying the correct classification ;
Design lighting category :
depends on the application of parameters of influence and specifies the lighting requirements to be considered in the plant design.
Operating lighting categories:
in relation to the analysis of the parameters of influence ( risk analysis) and reducing energy consumption , are those categories that take into
account the change during the time of the parameters of influence, such as in road environment, and the modification of the traffic flow during
the day.

2. TUNNEL LIGHTING
2.1 - Principles to be adopted for the lighting of
tunnels
1.4 - Risk Analysis
The risk analysis is the evaluation of the influence of parameters
in order to identify the lighting category that ensures the
maximum effectiveness of the lighting fitting contribution, to
the safety of road users in night conditions, and minimizing, at
the same time, energy consumption, installation costs and
environmental impact management . In relation to a detailed
preliminary study of the risk, it is detected the lighting project
category (concerning a traffic flow maximum of 100%), and
subsequently , considering an effective traffic flow, it is individuated lighting category of exercise.
A parameter that can change the lighting category and the color
of light: with color rendering index greater than or equal to 60
you can reduce the lighting while with color index less than 30,
you must increase the lighting category.
The principles that should be adopted in dealing with the
problem of illumination of a tunnel can be summarized as
follows:
both day and night;
change in driving conditions without developing a sense of
uncertainty, or still worse , of fear,
reflected glare, and a good level of vertical illumination to enable
the presence of obstacles.
The parameters that must be taken into consideration for the
project development of the tunnel lighting are the following:
1.5 - Lighting of roundabouts and intersections
the portal of entry;
The roundabout intersections and access roads ( access and exit
arms ) to the lighted roundabouts , due to their geometric and
functional characteristics, can be illuminated by applying the
categories of lighting series CE , supplemented by the requirements of debilitating dazzling. The selected lighting category
should be grater of one level, than the largest ones referred to
maximum speed expected by the intersection distance.
In order to adapt the vision from the external value of the
luminance, in daylight, to the internal value, and to ensure that
this passage takes place smoothly, you must divide the length of
the gallery in different areas where the value of the ratio of
luminance between two neighboring zones decreases appropriately.
class ME3 , the intersection should be applied in the lighting
roundabouts not illuminated , however, it is recommended to
take the lighting category CE1 . If one or more of the access roads
are not illuminated , the reference is provided for the lighting
class for these roads . It should adopt a descending lighting in the
transition zone between the dark zone and the illuminated one .
The length of this zone, on every access road not illuminated, it
should not be less than distance traveled in 5 seconds at the
maximum speed expected by the intersection distance.
The zones are :
Access zone: section of road just before the entrance to the
tunnel. Its length is equal to the stopping distance . In this area,
the driver of the vehicle must be able to recognize possible
obstacles present inside the itinerary.
Entry zone: this is the section of road immediately sub-sequent
the entrance to the tunnel . Its length must at least respect the
stopping distance . The lighting of this section , with respect to
the external light , must ensure the lowest possible overhang
and allow the driver to identify a possible obstacle from the
stopping distance .
Transition zone: section of road immediately after the entry
zone and previous to the inner one . In this area the luminance
levels are reduced compared to the values of entry , so to allow
the driver of the vehicle to adapt himself slowly to the lowest
levels of luminance of the inner zone .
Inner Zone: this area extends from the end of the transition
zone to the beginning of the exit zone. The levels of luminance
must ensure the driver, a drivie in complete safety.
Exit Zone : the last part of the tunnel where the driver's visibility
is affected by external light.
An "adaptive" Lighting, in some cases, may be necessary.

3. LIGHTING OF LARGE
OUTDOOR AREAS
4. LIGHTING
OF SPORTS AREAS
3.1 - Large areas lighting - tower Light
4.1 - Determination of the type of sports activity
The lighting of large outdoor areas include parking lots, marshalling and industrial storage areas, large squares and junctions,
service areas, port areas and all the places where you need a
proper level of illumination for the safety of persons and activities.
The lighting of the sports areas , whether indoors or outdoors,
requires today a specific expertise in the lighting design .
A first analysis we can say that the sporting environments are
very different one from another , from areas dedicated to
amateur sports to the one dedicated to agonistic activities .
In fact , depending on the type of activity and the degree of
competitiveness , are required different illuminance levels
(horizontal and vertical ) and uniformity.
In general the lighting design of these spaces must meet some
basic parameters such as:
safer, the passing and stop places areas and areas with activities
of public interest;
The lighting requirements must take into account many details :
the type of sport, speed and movements of the players, the size
and the speed of the ball, the position of the spectators.
As a result , the lighting must presuppose the knowledge of the
relevant legislation , the type of sport and the context in which
the sport takes place . Not to be forgotten are also the galleries,
stands, and sites devoted to the location of the cameras for
shoot, if foreseen .
creating glare dispersion or harassing dazzle;
directions;
illumination used must be adapted to ensure greater efficiency
of the plant in relation to the levels of illuminance and energy
saving
When performing the lighting calculation, in the first place it
should be considered what kind of sport is dedicated to the
studied area, in order to establish the necessary lighting
parameters. Afterword it is necessary to understand where to
place the devices in order to establish, through the calculation of
lighting, lens and power:
it must increase with the degree of difficulty of the task within
the area.
