Highlights of 2015... 2015 has been a challenging year for Bonnie’s Bus. We served WV women and continued to travel to all regions of the state. We faced mechanical problems with our generator that put a halt to operations for nearly a month. After much brainstorming and teamwork we put together a plan to pull a portable generator along with the Bus until we could find a more permanent solution. Our Bus staff has had to put in long and hard hours to make this solution work and they deserve special recognition for the work they have done this year. The 2015 Pink Party at Bartini August 3 was held to benefit Bonnie’s Bus. The special evening included excellent jazz music provided by a jazz band made up of University High School Students and dance music by the Soul Miners, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a commemorative Pink Party glass, complementary pink champagne, tours of Bonnie’s Bus, and an opportunity to participate in silent and live auctions. WVU Basketball Head Coach Bob Huggins auctioned two basketballs, one signed by his team and another by him, that sold for nearly $3,000 and two tickets to a basketball game of the bidder’s choice. Two other popular items in the auction were a bow tie donated by WVU President Gordon Gee and two pinkw golf bags. In total over $36,000 was raised at the Pink Party, a new record for the event. “When I see the Bus, I still get emotional,” said Jo Statler, who donated funds for the Bus in honor of her mother, Bonnie. “Without fundraisers like this, we can’t keep the Bus on the road to continue the phenomenal work that it does.” Statler also encouraged women at the event to get their mammogram annually. Bonnie Wells Wilson... Bonnie’s Bus was created in honor of Bonnie Wells Wilson, the mother of Jo Statler, who succumbed to breast cancer in 1992. Bonnie lived in a remote area of the state with no access to screening mammography. Bonnie’s Bus has a mission to provide breast cancer screening services to women in West Virginia, especially those in rural parts of the state with limited access to screening mammography. Bonnie has been an inspiration for the Bonnie’s Bus staff in the work they do for women every day in communities across West Virginia. See you in 2016!
