January 2010
UpComing Events
From the President’s Desk:
∗
Let me open by wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. I would like to thank Dean
Kerhulas and the 2009 Board of Directors for the current status of DGSC. It is an honor to
have been elected President during the 60th Anniversary Year of DGSC. In 2009 DGSC
was one of the top clubs in the Midwest based upon number of targets thrown. The
DGSC facility remains one of the finest clay target facilities anywhere. The membership, old
and young make DGSC a great Organization. Sporting Clays has been added to Trap, Skeet
and Five Stand for our members to enjoy. DGSC is strong financially with plans to continue
our expansion and enhancement programs during 2010. Old Stage Road is scheduled to be
upgraded this year. With the road improvement the club entrance gates and road will also
get a makeover. 2010 plans include installation of new lighting (delivered last week), ATA
registration improvement to speed up the registration process, and many more. Long range
plans will be presented by the expansion committee for consideration as the year progresses. I am at the club on the average of 3 days a week year round and your ideas or concerns are always welcome. If you want to address the Board of Directors or the General
Membership formally please contact Don Fredrick, our Secretary to be included in
the meeting agenda. In closing I would like everyone to maintain a high level of SAFETY
awareness at home, on the road and while at the club. Every member is important to our
future. Thank you for your support during 2010 Jim Olin

ViceVice-President Remarks: Thanks to all members for their renewals. With the kind help of
Debra Fredrick, the new badges should be available at the counter around the end of January. Good shooting in this cold weather, or just come to the club for some good old fashioned
camaraderie with fellow members. Dan Lucsay
Shotgun Sports Director Review:
Happy New Year! I hope that you and your families had a

Merry Christmas, and wonderful Holiday Season! I would like to thank everyone for having the confiinformation
dence to have me serve in the position of Shotgun Sports Director for another year. It at times can be a
very trying position, but the position is really helped by the corps of volunteers that make up this Club! We can ALWAYS use help on the
Shotgun Sports Committee so if you would like to volunteer your efforts please contact me! All of the other Directors could use help so don’t
be afraid to approach one of us whenever.
Shooting sports have pretty much slowed down for the year due to the weather, but the club WILL TRY to remain open through out the
year, weather permitting. It is hard to put out a concrete policy because even on the days with bad weather someone might want to shoot.
Sporting Clays due to the area that it is in will probably be closed the most. However, we will try to keep 5-Stand, Trap, and Skeet open during regular club hours. If weather is extremely bad please call the club beforehand to make sure that it is open. I wouldn’t expect anyone
that is supposed to work the counter have a wreck, or be injured trying to get to the club during a storm. Calling first will save you a trip to
the club when it isn’t able to open.
At the Dec Meeting in addition to the 50/50 split the pot the club gave away 2 turkeys, and 2 hams that were left over from the Turkey
Shoot along with some 12 and 20 gauge shells. We are going to continue this practice at the Senior Member Meetings as an incentive to get
more people to attend! If you would have something that may be “gently used” and want to donate to this grab bag please get a hold of myself or one of the other Directors.
In the near future we will be having an AIM Youth Shooting Program Fundraiser to raise money for the Program. Also, there will be a meat
shoot before Easter as well as another Level One Shotgun Coach Clinic that we will be hosting thru the club. If you know of any youths that
might be interested in the Youth Program see me, or one of the other Coaches Keith Uffelman, Deb Fredrick, Dean Merkle, or Dan Bellus.
The first organizational meeting for the AIM Program will be Sat, February 20th at 2PM. It will be at the club. Get in touch with Dean Merkle
if you know anyone interested in the program. We are always looking for young shooters to expand the program with. They are the future
of the sport.
Stay warm, stay safe, and come out to the club when you can. Even if just to have a cup of coffee or have lunch. We will be open, weather
permitting. See you on the firing line! Rick Gibbs

lish the club Bylaws, Rules, and Job Descriptions. In view of the fact that there are
already two Bylaw changes to be considered at the next Senior Member’s meeting,
the Board agreed to hold publication until those motions were considered. The Board
has agreed that the best way to have timely updated Bylaws is to publish them on the
DGSC web site. Members can then download or print the information on their computers. For those members who are not able to access the DGSC web site, copies of
the Bylaws will be printed and provided to you. Please contact Mike Gucciard by
phone at 708-254-2614, or by e-mail at [email protected]. Once I have a count
I will have copies mailed to you. Printed copies of the Bylaws, Rules, and Job Descriptions are being provided to the club by Karen Vander Veen. We appreciate your efforts Karen! Mike Gucciard

Hunting/Fishing News: With the New Year we are looking for ways to increase
participation in club events by the members. If you have any ideas for an event or
would like to see an activity offered at the club ,get in touch with one of us on the
board and we will see what we can do setting something up. One idea that has been
suggested is to hold a tournament style bird hunt. This is where a hunter and his dog
are given 15 minutes to harvest 4 birds within a specified course. Fastest time wins.
There will be an organizational meeting on Jan 30th, 10:00 at the club for anyone interested in participating. We will go over the rules, judging and field set up. I would
like to start a committee to plan and set up a 3-D archery course. If you’re interested,
let me know. When the State upland season closes pheasant hunting is on a release
only basis. Please mark on the sign in sheet how many birds you are releasing and
remember to pay for them at the trap counter. Chuck Feuillan
Youth & Community Relations:
A big Hello and Welcome to all the existing, and
new members of DGSC. The Youth and Community Relations Committee had a great year

will he having a tower shoot at Erienna Hunt Club on Sunday, February 28th, that will
benefit the AIM youth shooting program. It's a great hunt club run by Barry Narvick. If you
get a chance check it out. Also on February 20th we will be holding our registration for the
AIM youth shooters. This will be held at our club on February 20th, starting at 2:00. Anyone interested in getting a young shooter involved in the team, and shooting sports, is
more than welcome to attend. Once again this year the AIM team, and youth Committee
will have a lot of things going on, Leo Harrison is coming back for some clinics. The Boy
Scouts will be using our facility again. Our own youth team will be participating in many
ATA shoot. I could go on and on, but there's too much too list. If anyone has any suggestions or questions, please feel free to contact me through my email, or at 708-935-0800. I
thank you for the opportunity to serve this committee, and our club. Dean Merkle
