Safety Section 1-1
SAFETY
A safe and careful operator is the best operator. Safety is of primary importance to the manufacturer and should be to the owner/operator. Most accidents can be avoided by being aware of
your equipment, your surroundings, and observing certain precautions. The first section of this
manual includes a list of Safety Messages that, if followed, will help protect the operator and
bystanders from injury or death. Read and understand these Safety Messages before assembling, operating or servicing this implement. This equipment should only be operated by those
persons who have read the Manual, who are responsible and trained, and who know how to do
so safely and responsibly.
The Safety Alert Symbol combined with a Signal Word, as seen below, is used throughout this
manual and on decals which are attached to the equipment. The Safety Alert Symbol means:
“ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED!” The Symbol and Signal
Word are intended to warn the owner/operator of impending hazards and the degree of possible
injury faced when operating this equipment..
Practice all usual and customary safe working precautions and
above all---remember safety is up to YOU. Only YOU can prevent
serious injury or death from unsafe practices.
CAUTION!
The lowest level of Safety Message; warns of possible injury. Decals
located on the Equipment with this Signal Word are Black and Yellow.
WARNING!
Serious injury or possible death! Decals are Black and Orange.
DANGER!
Imminent death/critical injury. Decals are Red and White. (SG-1)
READ, UNDERSTAND, and FOLLOW the following Safety
Messages. Serious injury or death may occur unless care is
taken to follow the warnings and instructions stated in the Safety
Messages. Always use good common sense to avoid hazards.

SAFETY
CAUTION!
PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO LOUD NOISE MAY CAUSE
PERMANENT HEARING LOSS! Tractors with or without an
Implement attached can often be noisy enough to cause permanent
hearing loss. We recommend that you always wear hearing protection
if the noise in the Operator’s position exceeds 80db. Noise over 85db
over an extended period of time will cause severe hearing loss. Noise
over 90db adjacent to the Operator over an extended period of time will
cause permanent or total hearing loss. Note: Hearing loss from loud
noise [from tractors, chain saws, radios, and other such sources close
to the ear] is cumulative over a lifetime without hope of natural
recovery. (SG-I7)
WARNING!
Transport only at safe speeds. Serious accidents and injuries can result
from operating this equipment at unsafe speeds. Understand the Tractor
and Implement and how it handles before transporting on streets and
highways. Make sure the Tractor steering and brakes are in good condition
and operate properly.
Before transporting the Tractor and Implement, determine the safe
transport speeds for you and the equipment. Make sure you abide by
the following rules:
1. Test the tractor at a slow speed and increase the speed slowly.
Apply the Brakes smoothly to determine the stopping
characteristics of the Tractor and Implement.
As you increase the speed of the Tractor the stopping distance
increases. Determine the maximum safe transport speed for
you and this Equipment.
2. Test the equipment at a slow speed in turns. Increase the speed
through the turn only after you determine that it is safe to operate
at a higher speed. Use extreme care and reduce your speed when
turning sharply to prevent the tractor and implement from turning
over. Determine the maximum safe turning speed for you and this
equipment before operating on roads or uneven ground.
Only
transport the Tractor and Implement at the speeds that you
3.
have determined are safe and which allow you to properly control the
equipment.
Be aware of the operating conditions. Do not operate the Tractor with
weak or faulty brakes. When operating down a hill or on wet or rain slick
roads, the braking distance increases: use extreme care and reduce your
speed. When operating in traffic always use the Tractor’s flashing warning
lights and reduce your speed. Be aware of traffic around you andwatch
out for the other guy. (SG-19)
WARNING!
Never attempt to lubricate, adjust, or remove material from the Implement
while it is in motion or while tractor engine is running. Make sure the
tractor engine is off before working on the Implement.
(SG-20)
WARNING!
Periodically inspect all moving parts for wear and replace when necessary
with authorized service parts. Look for loose fasteners, worn or broken
parts, and leaky or loose fittings. Make sure all pins have cotter pins
and washers. Serious injury may occur from not maintaining this
machine in good working order. (SG-21)

Do not exceed the rated PTO speed for the Implement. Excessive PTO
speeds can cause Implement driveline or blade failures resulting in serious
injury or death. (SG-26)
DANGER!
NEVER use drugs or alcohol immediately before or while operating the
Tractor and Implement. Drugs and alcohol will affect an operator’s
alertness and coordination and therefore affect the operator’s ability to
operate the equipment safely.
Before operating the Tractor or
Implement, an operator on prescription or over-the-counter medication
must consult a medical professional regarding any side effects of the
medication that would hinder their ability to operate the Equipment
safely. NEVER knowingly allow anyone to operate this equipment
when their alertness or coordination is impaired. Serious injury or
death to the operator or others could result if the operator is under the
influence of drugs or alcohol. (SG-27)
DANGER!

INTRODUCTION
This Backhoe is designed with care and built with quality materials by skilled workers. Proper assembly,
maintenance, and operating practices, as described in this manual, will help the owner/operator get years of
satisfactory service from the machine.
The purpose of this manual is to familiarize, instruct, and train. The Assembly Section instructs the owner/operator
in the correct assembly of the Backhoe using standard and optional equipment. The Parts Manual is designed
to familiarize the owner/operator with replaceable parts on the Backhoe. This manual provides exploded
assembly drawings of each Backhoe component illustrating each piece and the corresponding part number.
Careful use and timely service saves extensive repairs and costly downtime losses. The Operations and
Maintenance sections of this manual trains the owner/operator how to work the Backhoe correctly and attend to
appropriate maintenance.
Safety is of primary importance to the owner/operator and to the manufacturer. The first section of this manual
includes a list of Safety Messages, that, if followed, will help protect the operator and bystanders from injury or
death. Many of the Safety Messages will be repeated throughout the manual. The owner/operator/dealer should
know these Safety Messages before assembly and be aware of the hazards of operating this backhoe during
assembly, use, and maintenance. The Safety Alert Symbol combined with a Signal Word, as seen below, is
intended to warn the owner/operator of impending hazards and the degree of possible injury faced when operating
this machine.
CAUTION!
The lowest level of Safety Message; warns of possible minor injury. Decals located on the
Backhoe with this Signal Word are Black and Yellow.
WARNING!
Serious injury or possible death! Decals are Black and Orange.
DANGER!
Imminent death/critical injury. Red and White Decals.
ATTENTION OWNER/OPERATOR
BEFORE OPERATING THIS MACHINE:
1. Carefully read the Operator’s Manual, completely understand the Safety Messages and instructions, and know
how to operate correctly both the tractor and Backhoe.
2. Fill out the Warranty Card in full, and mail promptly. Be sure to answer all questions, including the Serial Number
of the Backhoe.
NOTE: Warranties are honored only if completed “Owner Registration and Warranty” cards are received by
Alamo Group within thirty days of delivery of the Backhoe.

ASSEMBLY
TRACTOR SELECTION
Subframe-mounted models
The wider base of the M 190’s folding legs give stability which allow the backhoe to be operated on tractors with
a minimum weight of 1100 lbs. In addition, a minimum of 14 HP is required.
Linkage-mounted models.
A tractor with a minimum of 40 HP is required.
Linkage isolation:
Although it may be possible to operate model using tractor hydraulics without linkage isolation, a severe strain
would be put upon the attachment yoke and pins. Most modern tractors are equipped with a ready means of
providing linkage isolation through a conveniently-operated valve. For tractors without this facility a linkage
isolation valve is necessary and is available from Rhino.
Check Chains/Stabilizer Bars:
Check chain and/or stabilizer bars must be fitted and in good condition.
Models with Tractor-Supplied Hydraulics Power
On both models, the relief valve setting in the control valve is 2250 PSI. Therefore, if operating from the tractor
oil supply, the tractors relief valve setting must be at least a little above this figure to give satisfactory operation.
The best digger operation requires 5.2 GPM. The tractor selected should be capable of producing this oil flow
rate without excessive engine speed.
TRACTOR PREPARATION
All models.
For increased stability, wheels should be spaced out as far as is practical. Additional front end weight should be
added to the tractor as needed.
Linkage mounted models
Draft Control:
Wherever possible, the top link should be attached to a fixed or “dead pin” position of the tractor. The draft control
lever should be locked and/or the tractor hydraulic controls should be positioned to zero draft/minimum response
to prevent as far as possible the operation of the draft control mechanism while working.

For other tractors without a ‘dead pin’ top link position and which work on top link sensing for draft control, a bracket
will have to be fabricated which either locks the draft control lever or provides an alternative mounting on the tractor
for the implements top link.
Draft control mechanisms which rely on bottom link sensing do not affect the fitting or operation of a backhoe;
therefore, no special tractor modifications are required.
TRACTOR LIFT ARMS
Adjust the tractor drop arms so that the ball ends are both the same height from the ground. Because of the great
variation in makes and models of tractors, no figures can be given, but the draft links should be adjusted as low
as possible while still maintaining adequate thread engagement.
SUBFRAME MODELS.
The backhoe subframe must be attached to the tractor in accordance with the instructions or information provided
by your tractor dealer.

ASSEMBLY
FIGURE 1
FITTING SUBFRAME TO KUBOTA L1550 AND 1750 TRACTORS (Figure 1)
Remove the tractor linkage
Fitting the axle brackets and beams should be completed one side at a time and is carried out as follows.
Remove the bolts that secure the ROPS frame to the axle.
The axle bracket can now be fitted around the rear of the axle over the loader frame mounting plate and secured
in position using the setscrews and lock washers provided. The shorter setscrews fit in the underside of the axle.
The axle brackets are handed components. Study the drawing carefully and ensure that the mounting plates
project towards the centerline of the tractor.
Lift the beam into the jaws of the axle bracket and pin in position.
Repeat the procedure for the other side.
The anchor blocks must be welded to the loader mounting crossbeam. They are positioned equidistant from
center line with a distance between the hole centers of (17 inches). This can be carried out and alignment

FIGURE 2
FITTING SUBFRAME TO KUBOTA B8200, B8200 HST AND L2150 TRACTORS (Figure 2)
Remove the tractor linkage.
Fitting the axle brackets and beams should be completed one side at a time and is carried out as follows.
Remove the four nuts that secure the bottom of the fender and the check chain anchor bracket. Loosen the
remaining fender mounting bolts until there is sufficient movement to allow the bottom of the fender to be moved
clear of its mounting stud. Remove the fender spacer and the check chain anchor brackets. Utilizing the existing
studs, fit the axle bracket in position with the jaws facing forward. Refit the fender, replace the nuts and tighten.
Remember to tighten the fender bolts previously loosened to allow fitting.
The anchor blocks must be welded to the underside of the loader mounting crossbeam. They are positioned an
equal distance from the center line with the chamfer forward and upward and with a distance between the hole
center of (23 7/16 inches). This can be carried out and alignment confirmed by placing the anchor blocks on the
beams and using the beams as a jig. Clamp them in place and weld the anchor blocks in the position described.
Position the nose of the subframe beam into the socket in the
anchor block; lift the beam until the jaws are located either side
of the axle bracket and pin in position. See Figure 3.
Repeat the procedure for the other side.
Fit the stays outboard of the beams and pin in position.
The tractor is now ready for the digger to be attached.

BACKHOE PREPARATION (Figure 5)
All models.
The backhoes will be delivered in a partially dismantled condition fixed to a transport pallet.
Select a firm, level site, and using overhead lifting equipment, position the machine so that the arms and bucket
are at half reach directly behind the frame. It will be necessary to release the lift ram tap.
Linkage-mounted models.
Pin the linkage yoke between the lugs on the backhoe frame lower cross member.
FIGURE 5
Attach one of the bottlescrews to the linkage yoke cross member lugs and bolt the other end to the inboard face
of the lugs or plate on the backhoe frame top cross member. Do not attach the second bottlescrew at this stage.
Adjust the bottle screw until the yoke lies a roughly 45 degrees to the ground.
Check the top hitch fitting. In Cat I-Cat II double-ended yoke swivel plate, it may be necessary to reverse it. Note
- it is turned around and not turned over.
Independent hydraulic models
The hydraulic tank is bolted to the front of the control console utilizing the holes below the seat mounting bracket.
The filter projects upwards into the space between the seat mounting bracket and the console.
Connect the supply hose to the valve inlet connection and the pressure connection on the pump. The elbow end
is at the pump connection.
Connect the return hose to the valve outlet connection and the tank filter block connection. The elbow end is at
the valve connection.
Connect the suction hose to both tank and pump use two jubilee clips at each end.

ASSEMBLY
CONNECTING HYDRAULICS (FIGURE 6)
Reverse the tractor squarely up to the backhoe and check that the swing lock is engaged.
Hydraulic installation for backhoes when powered by tractor oil supply.
For tractors with a front end loader, fitted both implements are operated in series with the digger being first in the
line as shown. The loader supply line is broken at the self seal coupling and the hoses from the tractors hydraulic
block outlet is then connected to the digger supply hose at ‘A’ and the 7/8 J.I.C. digger return hose is then coupled
to the loader control valve supply hose at ‘B’.
FIGURE 6
These connections at ‘A’ and ‘B’ can either be made by completing the circuit with a matching quick-attach
coupling or by discarding the loader supply hose quick-attach coupling and connection with a suitable union. For
a long term installation, it is recommended that the latter alternative is adopted.
Because the backhoe control valve and return hose is capable of accepting full pressure, it is possible to use the
return line to feed another service such as the loader as detailed above or the three-point linkage.
For instances where loaders are not fitted, the tractor’s normal hydraulic supply and return points can be used.
Hydraulic installation for backhoes with independent
hydraulics.
Check that the PTO gearbox contains oil. Its capacity is 1/4
pint (150 mls) of E.P. 90 gear oil. Fit the gearbox/pump unit
onto the tractor’s PTO shaft in the vertical position as shown
ensuring that the spring-loaded locking collar is fully engaged. Secure the torque chain so that the angle is approximately 90 degrees to the torque arm and is in lateral alignment. A suitable anchoring point is around the subframe
beam or the draft link. See Figure 7.
Fill the hydraulic tank with 6 gallons of hydraulic oil.

ASSEMBLY
MOUNTING BACKHOE ONTO TRACTOR
Subframe models
For Independent, start tractor and engage the PTO drive and allow the pump to work under a no-load condition
for several minutes with the operating controls in neutral with the tractor engine speed at high idle.
For Tractor supply, start tractor and switch on external oil supply and allow to circulate for a few minutes.
Select ‘leg down’ and operate both equally to raise the digger frame sufficiently to allow the subframe hooks to
be reversed under the hitch bars.
Raise the legs and allow the hitch bars to lower into position in the carrying hooks. On M190 backhoes, the
subframe carrying hooks engage the inboard hitch bars when fitted to Kubota B6200, B7100HST, L1550 and
L1750 tractors and the outboard hitch bars when fitted to Kubota B8200, B8200HST, L275, and L1750 tractors
and the outboard hitch bars when fitted to Kubota B8200, B8200HST, L275, L2150, L2550 and L2850 tractors.
Other tractors, ---Remove the packing stays, unscrew the lift ram tap, and, by use of the ‘lift down’ and ‘reach out’ services maneuver
the main frame into a vertical position.
Fit the diagonal stays to the top mounting lugs on the digger main frame. For M190 only, use the following location
for the diagonal stay when fitted on Kubota:B7100HST Use lower holes inboard of the lugs
B6200, B7200, L1550 and L1750 Use upper holes onboard of the lugs
B8200, B8200HST, L275, L1250, L2550 and L2850 Use upper holes outboard of the lugs
Fit the bottom hitch locking pins in position.
Release the swing lock and operate the machine throughout its work cycle to purge all air from the system. Check
that no hoses are being trapped, frayed, kinked, or stretched in any way.
Ensure that all transport locks are engaged before proceeding to the work site.
Linkage models.
For Independent, start tractor and engage PTO drive and allow the pump to work under a no-load condition with
operating controls in neutral for several minutes with tractor engine at high idle.
For Tractor supply, start tractor and switch on external oil supply and allow to circulate for a few minutes.
The draft link pins are positioned in the one of the two holes available that allows the backhoe to be mounted as
close to the tractor as possible without the operator’s seat coming into contact with any part of the tractor.
Operate both stabilizer legs simultaneously and lower the feet until the draft link pins are raised level with the link
ball ends.
Reverse tractor and connect the draft links.
Unscrew the lift cylinder valve. Select ‘Lift-down’ and by pushing down with the main arm, pivot the main frame

until it is upright.
Using the leg controls simultaneously, select down. In this manner, raise the main frame until the under side is
approximately 15" clear of the ground.
Adjust the turnbuckle to allow the yoke swivel plate to be connected into the tractor’s top hitch. Further, adjust
the turnbuckle until the swivel plate locking pin can be inserted.
If necessary, adjust the turnbuckle to bring the machine upright and assemble the remaining into position.
Raise the legs, and with the tractor standing on level ground, center the machine by check chains or stabilizer bar
adjustment. Tighten up to prevent side sway.
Operate machine throughout its work cycle to purge all air from the system. Check that hoses are not trapped,
frayed, kinked, or stretched in any way.
Ensure that all transport locks are in place before proceeding to the work site.

Assembly Section 3-10
OPERATION
SECTION
Operation Section 4-1
OPERATION
MACHINE CONTROLS (Figure 1)
The main controls of the backhoe for lift, bucket, reach, and swing are operated by two joystick control levers each
controlling a pair of functions either individually or in unison. When moved on a ‘+’ axis, the levers will activate
a single service, but if operated with an ‘x’ axis, two services will be simultaneously selected. Lever sensing is
such that moving the lever away from the operator or to the right will cause the arm to move away or, in the case
of the swing service, to the right. Moving a lever away or to right will result in Main arm down, Reach out, Bucket
open, and Swing right. The lever knobs are color-coded according to function: green and red control the reach
and bucket operation; black and yellow control the swing and lift.
The secondary controls which are situated between the two main joystick levers consist of two levers each of which
individually controls its respective hydraulic leg. Moving the levers away from the operator will cause the legs to
lower.
Before commencing work select a clear unobstructed site and operate the digger without load until the controls
and the 'feel' of the machine are familiar. This is a wise precaution for all operators and a must for the
inexperienced.
Figure 1
TRACTOR ENGINE SPEED
Tractor powered models.
Do not run the tractor engine any faster than is necessary to achieve a 5 second swing cycle through 180 degrees.
Independent models
To provide the backhoe with 5.2 GPM of hydraulic flow sufficient for operation, a PTO speed of 400 rpm is required.
All models
Increasing the flow does not increase the power of the machine but merely causes the oil to overheat and decrease
the working life of the machine.

Operation Section 4-2
OPERATION
OPERATING STABILITY
Subframe models with loaders
These models are designed to be used in conjunction with a front end loader and when operated in this mode,
the weight of the tractor/backhoe unit is supported by the front end loader bucket and the backhoe feet with the
tractor wheels clear of the ground.
For maximum stability, extend the bucket rams until the loader bucket is fully dumped, then lower the bucket to
the ground and power down until the weight of the tractor is lifted. In this way, the edges of the bucket in contact
with the ground will give improved grip and any fore and aft movement caused by the digging action will be
minimized.
Side-to-side levelling is by independent use of the hydraulic legs.
There is no facility for fore and aft levelling for these machines.
Linkage-mounted models
Remarks regarding additional front weights made in the "subframe models without loaders" section apply equally
here.
SIDEWAYS LEVELLING
At all times, keep all four wheels of the tractor on the ground for maximum stability and keep loads on the linkage
to a minimum. Levelling is limited by the amount of free movement in the tractors linkage and is achieved by use
of the hydraulic legs. It may be necessary to first loosen and then re-tighten the check chains to carry out this
adjustment.
On some tractors, facility is provided for the lift links to operate in a floating position. If available, the backhoe
should be operated in this mode. Where this facility is not available, it must be the tractor lift links are not normally
expected to cope with compression loads and , therefore, for tractors fitted with lighter, rod-type lift links, it is a
wise precaution, to prevent possible damage, to operate the backhoe with one link removed completely. When
operating with either floating links or with one link removed, it can be expected that the machine will lean to one
side during transport.
Fore and aft levelling is achieved by adjusting the turnbuckle.
For linkage-mounted models where the tractor is fitted with a front end loader, it is permissible to use the loader
bucket to raise the tractor's front wheels clear of the ground. Under no circumstances must an attempt be made
to raise the rear wheels clear of the ground using the backhoe legs.
REMOVAL FROM TRACTOR
Subframe models
Select a firm, level site for parking machine.
Lower the feet tot he ground and take the weight off the machine to remove tension form the hitch locking pins.
Extend the bucket firmly on the ground with the dipper in a vertical position.
Engage the swing lock pin and fully close the lift ram tap.

Operation Section 4-3
OPERATION
Remove the locking pins from the lower hitch plate and disconnect the diagonal stays from the digger.
Simultaneously lower the legs sufficiently to allow the hitch pins to be lifted clear of the subframe beam hooks.
Remove the pump from the PTO shaft and loop conveniently over the digger to keep it clear of the ground.
Alternatively, for tractor-powered models the supply and return hose should be disconnected and slowed with their
ends clear of the ground.
The tractor can now be driven forward from the digger.
For normal three-point linkage operation, the beams and diagonal stays must be removed. The axle brackets,
which also provide check chain anchor points, can remain in position.
Linkage-mounted models
Select a firm level site for parking the machine.
Lower the feet to the ground to take the weight off the linkage support at this height with chocks under the frame
to prevent any sinkage.
With the arms directly to the rear, extend the reach arm about half way and lower the bucket to the ground.
Check that the swing lock pin is engaged and the lift ram tap is screwed in.
For independent hydraulics, disengage the tractors PTO and remove the pump and gearbox. For tractor supply
models, de-select the tractor's external hydraulic supply and disconnect the supply and return hoses and blank.
Disconnect stabilizer bars or loosen check chains as applicable.
Disconnect the yoke swivel plate from the tractor's top hitch point. Remove the tractor draft links and drive forward.
STORAGE
If the machine is to be left standing for an extended period of time, lightly coat the exposed portions of the ram rods
with grease. This grease which becomes contaminated with dust and grit should be wiped off before the rams are
next moved.
CAUTION
If the machine has to be stored outside, tie a piece of canvas or tarpaulin over the control assembly
Do not use a plastic bag - this could lead to rapid corrosion.
In addition, the seat can be pivoted forward to cover the operating levers.
Use hoses to suspend pump and gearbox clear of the ground.
DIGGING DEPTH
Extra digging depth can be achieved on machines that are mounted on subframes by tilting the machine

Operation Section 4-4
OPERATION
backwards. This is done by pushing down with the loader bucket and raising the feet. When operating in this tilted
back mode, some deterioration in the performance of the swing circuit is inevitable as the system is always
swinging uphill with a laden bucket.
SEAT ADJUSTMENT
The seat pan with the seat is bolted through any one of four holes in the seat carrier bracket to give 4" of fore and
aft adjustment.
The seat carrier bracket can be inverted to raise or lower the seat 3".
Note. The foot rests, although provided with extra holes, are not adjustable for position.
TRANSPORTATION
The 190 is transported with the arms folded up in line to the rear of the tractor.
In both cases, three separate transport locks are provided which will, when engaged prevent any movement of
the arms caused by 'creep' or by inadvertent operation of the control levers.
The locks should be engaged at all times during machine transport,
particularly on the highway, and also when the machine has been parked
and removed from the tractor.
LIFT CYLINDER VALVE (Figure 2)
Located on the gland connection of the lift lylinder, the valve, when fully
closed, will prevent the arm from creeping or falling to the ground if the
control lever is accidentally operated.
FIGURE 2
SWING LOCK (Figure 3)
Consists of a captive vertical pin located on the top of the swing
column, which, when engaged, locates in one of three mating slots in
the quadrant on the top plate of the sliding frame and locks the swing
column in the transport position chosen, thus preventing accidental
swinging or 'creeping' of the column.
FIGURE 3
To engage, position the swing column as required, remove the 'R' clip,
and allow the locking pin to locate in the slot in the sliding frame
quadrant. Replace the 'R' clip to prevent the pin's jumping out during
transport. To disengage, the pin is held up and the 'R' clip repositioned through its hole above its mounting bracket.
SEAT LOCK (Figure 4)
During transport, the digger seat is folded rearward over the control
handles. To prevent the seat's falling back onto the tractor driver, a
spring-loaded locking plunger is provided. Situated just below the seat
pivot, it will, when the seat is folded, locate into a mating hole and
secure the seat in the transport position.

FIGURE 4
OPERATION
BUCKETS
Four buckets are currently available for use with the 190.
BUCKET ATTACHMENT
All buckets use the same two pivot pins to attach to the dipper arm and the slave link. To fit, place the bucket on
the ground and lower the dipper arm end into position between the pivot plates and fit the bucket pivot pin. Note
that the pin heads butt against a triangular stop to prevent the pins from turning. Lift the bucket clear of the ground
and adjust the strake of the bucket ram to enable the slave link to be positioned and pinned into place.
EXCAVATING BUCKETS (Figure 5)
FIGURE 5
Available in 13", 16" or 22" width, the buckets, which are equipped with hard-faced reinforced teeth, have
alternative mounting pivots to give a 'square hole' digging action. Offered as optional extras, the side cheek plates
will give an extra 2" of digging width.
SQUARE HOLE GEOMETRY (Figure 6)
Where it is desired to form a vertical face, as in the digging of a straight-sided pit, the bucket may be hinged in
the upper pivot position will also result in 4-1/2" of greater working depth though some loss of power must be
expected from this geometry as well as a limitation to the fully-closed position of the bucket.

MAINTENANCE
HOSES
The condition of all hoses should be carefully checked during routine service of the machine. Hoses that have
been chafed or damaged on their outer casing should be securely wrapped with waterproof adhesive tape to stop
the metal braid fron rusting. Hoses that have suffered damage to the metal braid should be changed at the earliest
opportunity.
WARNING
Make certain that hoses in the backhoe are not damaged or leaking.
HOSE REPLACEMENT
a) Replace one hose at a time to avoid the risk of wrong connections.
b) When the hose is screwed to an additional fitting or union, use a second wrench on the union to avoid breaking
both seals.
c) Do not use joint compound on the threads.
d) Avoid twisting the hose. Adjust the hose line to ensure freedom from rubbing or trapping before tightening hose
end connections.
HOSE WARRANTY
Warranty is limited to replacement of hoses which have failed due to faulty materials or manufacture. Warranty
will not be considered on hoses that have suffered damage by abrasion, cuts, or being pinched or trapped while
in work. Neither will a claim be considered where a hose end has been damaged by a blow or where the threads
or union have been damaged by overtightening.
HOSE ROUTING
The layout and the routes of the hoses have been carefully worked out to ensure that the hoses are not trapped,
kinked, chafed, or pinched during the diggers operation. If replacing a hose, take care to fit the replacement in
exactly the same way as its predecessor.
TANK RETURN HYDRAULIC FILTER
A return line canister-type filter is directly attached to the top of the reservoir. It is recommended that this filter
be changed after the first fifty hours use and annually thereafter.
GEARBOX
Routine maintenance of the gearbox will primarily consist of making a check on the oil level which should be visible
through the transparent plug. The complete assembly should be kept clean especially in the input shaft area. An
accumulation of dust and grit can have an abrasive effect on the shaft seal and cause leaks. The oil should be
changed annually. Shaft seal part number is 86 29 134 and the overhaul seal kit part number is 86 99 178.

1. LIMITED WARRANTIES
1.01.Servis-Rhino warrants for one year from the purchase date to the original non-commercial, governmental, or municipal
purchaser (“Purchaser”) and warrants for six months to the original commercial or industrial purchaser (“Purchaser”)
that the goods purchased are free from defects in material or workmanship.
1.02.Manufacturer will replace for the Purchaser any part or parts found, upon examination at one of its factories, to be
defective under normal use and service due to defects in material or workmanship.
1.03.This limited warranty does not apply to any part of the goods which has been subjected to improper or abnormal use,
negligence, alteration, modification, or accident, damaged due to lack of maintenance or use of wrong fuel, oil, or
lubricants, or which has served its normal life. This limited warranty does not apply to any part of any internal
combustion engine, or expendable items such as blades, shields, guards, or pneumatic tires except as specifically found
in your Operator’s Manual.
1.04.Except as provided herein, no employee, agent, Dealer, or other person is authorized to give any warranties of any

2. REMEDIES AND PROCEDURES.
2.01.This limited warranty is not effective unless the Purchaser returns the Registration and Warranty Form to Manufacturer
within 30 days of purchase.
2.02.Purchaser claims must be made in writing to the Authorized Dealer (“Dealer”) from whom Purchaser purchased the
goods or an approved Authorized Dealer (“Dealer”) within 30 days after Purchaser learns of the facts on which the
claim is based.
2.03.Purchaser is responsible for returning the goods in question to the Dealer.
2.04.If after examining the goods and/or parts in question, Manufacturer finds them to be defective under normal use and
service due to defects in material or workmanship, Manufacturer will:
(a) Repair or replace the defective goods or part(s) or
(b) Reimburse Purchaser for the cost of the part(s) and reasonable labor charges (as determined by Manufacturer)
if Purchaser paid for the repair and/or replacement prior to the final determination of applicability of the warranty
by Manufacturer.
The choice of remedy shall belong to Manufacturer.
2.05.Purchaser is responsible for any labor charges exceeding a reasonable amount as determined by Manufacturer and
for returning the goods to the Dealer, whether or not the claim is approved. Purchaser is responsible for the transportation cost for the goods or part(s) from the Dealer to the designated factory.

USE OF THE GOODS.
3.03.EXCEPT AS PROVIDED HEREIN, MANUFACTURER SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY TO
PURCHASER OR ANY OTHER PERSON OR ENTITY WITH RESPECT TO ANY LIABILITY, LOSS, OR DAMAGE
CAUSED OR ALLEGED TO BE CAUSED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY BY THE GOODS INCLUDING, BUT NOT
LIMITED TO, ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM
THE USE OR OPERATION OF THE GOODS OR ANY BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY. NOT WITHSTANDING THE
ABOVE LIMITATIONS AND WARRANTIES, MANUFACTURER’S LIABILITY HEREUNDER FOR DAMAGES
INCURRED BY PURCHASER OR OTHERS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE PRICE OF THE GOODS.

R
TO THE OWNER/OPERATOR/DEALER
To keep your implement running efficiently and safely, read your manual thoroughly and follow these directions and the Safety
Messages in this Manual. The Table of Contents clearly identifies each section where you can easily find the information you need.
The OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (1928.51 Subpart C) makes these minimum safety requirements of tractor
operators:
REQUIRED OF THE OWNER:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Provide a Roll-Over-Protective Structure that meets the requirements of this Standard; and
Provide Seatbelts that meet the requirements of this paragraph of this Standard and SAE J4C; and
Ensure that each employee uses such Seatbelt while the tractor is moving; and
Ensure that each employee tightens the Seatbelt sufficiently to confine the employee to the protected area
provided by the ROPS.
REQUIRED OF THE OPERATOR
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
Securely fasten seatbelt if the tractor has a ROPS.
Where possible, avoid operating the tractor near ditches, embankments, and holes.
Reduce speed when turning, crossing slopes, and on rough, slick, or muddy surfaces.
Stay off slopes too steep for safe operation.
Watch where you are going - especially at row ends, on roads, and around trees.
Do not permit others to ride.
Operate the tractor smoothly - no jerky turns, starts, or stops.
Hitch only to the drawbar and hitch points recommended by the tractor manufacturer.
When the tractor is stopped, set brakes securely and use park lock, if available.
Keep children away from danger all day,
every day...
Equip tractors with rollover protection (ROPS)
and keep all machinery guards in place...
Please work, drive, play and live each day with
care and concern for your safety and that of
your family and fellow citizens.
