in Guyana with Youth with a Mission. This was a
project in which the students could actively and
passionately participate.
For the past three years, Mrs. Saia’s
class has sent several large barrels filled
with basic school supplies, first-aid kits,
clothing, flip-flops, and gently used toys
and games to Guyana, which is on the
northern coast of South America. Every
item is either donated or purchased by
the students with money they earn on
their own. The items are distributed to
families, schools, and villages in
Guyana. The barrels are just as valuable
as the contents because they are large

this major. The recipient must demonstrate a willingness to help
others, be a good citizen, and succeed academically. Mr. Collette is
the second consecutive HTS graduate to receive this award; Jason
Me n ar d, HT S 20 0 6, w as
recognized with the same award
in 2014.
Jason Menard, HTS 2006,
Clarkson University 2014, 2015

Data Analytics candidate, earned
The Dr. Charles T. Mosier ’72
Memorial Scholarship Award.

the Charles T. Mosier ’72 Scholar.
Sister Christine Cosgrove, O.P, HTS 1966, feels as though she
never left high school. Sister Christine’s experience at Mercy High
School, Middletown, CT, was wonderful and the best choice she
made. She graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a BA in
English Literature and worked in a Fortune 500 company in marketing
for three years. Sister Christine joined the Dominican Order, became
a Dominican Sister, and is now a Dominican Sister of Our Lady of the
Springs of Bridgeport, CT. She earned a Master’s in English
Literature from Fordham University, a Ph.D. in Educational
Administration from Fordham University, a Master’s in Sacred
Scripture from St. Joseph Seminary, and a Master’s in Christian
Spirituality from Fordham in May 2014. All of Sister Christine’s
ministry has been in Catholic secondary schools, primarily girls’
schools, and the majority of it in New York City at Dominican high
schools. She has taught English, Religion, and Latin. She is
currently the Vice Principal for Advancement at St. Vincent Ferrer
High School and teaches two Latin classes. Her nephew, Andrew,
carries the family legacy through his attendance at HTS.

Xavier. This award is named
after Theodore James Ryken, a
Dutch-born layman, who founded
the Xaverian Brothers in Bruges,
Belgium, in 1839. The Ryken

Mr. Applegate said HTS helped
lay the foundation leading to both
the Dalton and Ryken awards.

WPAA-TV Sponsored a Summer Program
During the school year, Mrs. Saia,
Mrs. Smith, and the students make
first aid kits and children’s activity
bags.
The first aid kits are
resealable plastic bags filled with a
simple first aid book made by the
students, gauze, antibiotic cream,
and bandages. The activity bags
are handmade from multi-colored
duct tape, filled with a small
coloring book, crayons, and small
toys, and distributed to children in
the hospital.
A
group of 13 Holy Trinity School students spent their summer
learning about writing, directing, and producing for television, and
are proud of their public service announcement about Internet safety
called Dead Giveaway.
Under the guidance of WPAA-TV and Community Media Center, the
students met twice a week to brainstorm then write the script, rehearse,
direct the filming, tape, and help produce the final PSA. Mark T. Sheehan
High School students interning at WPAA-TV offered production expertise.
Dead Giveaway is one of the first productions from the new WPAA-TV
studio. It shows two middle school girls discussing a “cool guy on
Instagram” who asks for one of the girls’ phone number. She gives it to him
before her friend can warn her that her phone could be hacked. Shortly
after, the girl’s cell phone carrier calls with information they have detected
suspicious activity from her cell phone and shut it off. The PSA ends with a
warning to everyone they
should not give any personal
information to anyone they

announcement about Internet safety called Dead Giveaway.
The barrels cost $45 to purchase.
A Bridgeport company picks up
the full barrels and delivers them to
the docks in New York City where
they are loaded onto a ship. It
costs about $130 to ship the barrels
and it takes six to eight weeks for
them to arrive in Georgetown,
Guyana. The barrels are picked up
by Ms. Cook, who distributes the
items.
“The students get so much out of
it. Kim sends us emails, notes, and
pictures,” Mrs. Saia said. “At one
time, the students were packing
items into a barrel, and a picture
arrived later from Guyana of a
little girl who had received one of
the stuffed animals. Her wide
smile told the story.”
Robert Larese (HTS 2013) is an
Eagle Scout candidate. Currently a
junior at Xavier, he proposed power
washing and painting the retaining
wall along the play area at HTS for his
Eagle Scout project. After months of
research, planning and organizing the
project, soliciting donations of time,
materials and money, and receiving
approval from the Boy Scouts of
America, Mr. Larese gathered a crew
of 22, including scouts from Troop 1,
Boy Scout leaders, former HTS
classma tes, and parents and
teachers. Over a period of five days,
the wall was power washed and
painted.
Mr. Larese is currently
waiting for his completed project to be
reviewed and accepted by the BSA.

Three Students from the Class of 2015 Awarded Xavier High School Scholarships
Holy Trinity School is proud to announce that three students in the Class of 2015 were awarded Xavier
High School (Middletown, CT) scholarships. Anthony Caruso, Julen Lujambio, and Christian Wade, who
entered Xavier in September as freshmen, each scored in the 98 th percentile on the High School
Placement Test, Xavier’s entrance exam. They were awarded the Thomas Pierce Honors Memorial
Academic Scholarship at a spring ceremony at Xavier. The award is given in honor of Thomas Pierce, a
Xavier science teacher who served as department chairperson at the school. Pictured (from left) are:

Hey Mom & Dad!
A
re you still getting your son's or daughter's mail at home? We've had several people mention they receive two or more copies of mailings (The Trinity
Tattler included). In most cases, we find an alumnus has moved from home and not updated his or her mailing address. If you prefer to receive their
mail (as they are temporarily away at college, etc.), that's fine. But if they are out on their own, please help us update their contact information by
using the "What's New" form below or by giving us a call at 203-269-4476. If there appear to be other reasons for the duplicate copies, let us know and we'll
do our best to correct the matter. Thank you for your help.
What's New in 2015?
Have you moved, changed jobs, married, earned a degree, had a baby? Well, we'd like to hear from you. Please take a
minute to fill out the form below so we may update our records and let your fellow alumni know how (and where) you are. You
may also include photographs, but let us know if we may use them in future publications and/or online media.
