Thank you for attending and for helping support the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). We host this annual Sale to help meet human needs through MCC’s relief efforts, service, and peacemaking in more than 50 countries around the world. Volunteers from Mennonite and other Anabaptist churches in Iowa plan and carry out this Sale annually. As a result of last year’s Sale, $145,000 was given to the work of MCC. We hope you will find enjoyment in the many offerings at this year’s Sale as you invest in the lives of people around the world. We hope you’ll return to next year’s Sale on June 23, 2017 . Susan Gingerich and Jim Yoder Executive Committee Cochairs Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches, shares God’s love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. MCC envisions communities worldwide in right relationship with God, one another and creation. MCC focuses its work in five strategic areas of service. 1) Caring for the lives and futures of uprooted and other vulnerable people. 2) Providing water, food and shelter first in times of hunger, disaster and conflict, then education and ways to earn income. 3) Working with churches and communities to prevent violence and promote peace and justice. 4) Investing in opportunities for young people to serve in Canada, the U.S. and around the world. 5) Serving with humility and in partnership to meet local needs with local solutions. 3 Table of Contents Schedule

Ethiopia experiencing worst drought in 30 years More than 10 million people – including six million children – need immediate food assistance in Ethiopia. It’s estimated that 2.1 million children are malnourished. The country is experiencing its worst drought in 30 years. El Nino weather patterns have resulted in below average rainy seasons: conditions are most severe in northeastern and central areas of Ethiopia. Communities are dealing with a shortage of water, crop failures, lower livestock production and higher livestock mortality . T o address the current situation, MCC and its partners are enhancing existing projects: ● In Afar region, working with Afar Pastoralist Development Association, we provided goats to 400 households.Through our account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank, we have added feed supplies for these goats to ensure they survive the current drought. ● In Adama, also known as Nazret, we will provide a hot noon meal to students at our Global Family project operated by our partner, Remember the Poorest. ● Drawing from our account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank and working with current partners, MCC will scale up some of our existing conservation agriculture projects in Ethiopia. This initiative is being done in collaboration with other Foodgrains Bank members and will also include projects in Kenya. Bawoke Mengisit is a farmer in the Debre Markos area of Ethiopia, where MCC works with partner Migbare Senay Child and Family Support Organization on rehabilitation of the Shegeza watershed. MCC Photo/Vurayayi Pugeni 42 MCC has been working in droughtaffected communities in Ethiopia for more than a decade. We know that the impact is most significant in the months between planting and harvesting of crops, when little food is produced and supplies are low. To address that period of scarcity, MCC and its partners have been working with subsistence farmers to improve soil fertility and diversify sources of income. We provide food assistance to some households during those critical months. We also work with communities on conservation agriculture activities to help prevent soil degradation and limit the impact of climatic changes. Here are some of our ongoing projects: ● In the Amhara region, MCC supports a cashforwork program and rehabilitation of degraded land. MCC’s partner is the Ethiopian Mulu Wongel Amagnoch Church Development Organization. ● In Debre Markos, also in the Amhara region, MCC works with partner Migbare Senay Child and Family Support Organization, on a cashforwork program and the rehabilitation of a watershed. ● MCC has worked in the Boricha area with partner Meserete Kristos Church Relief and Development Organization for more than a decade. We have provided food and cashforwork during the hunger season. 2016 Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale Sponsors Relief $100249 Anonymous Chris Schlabach Construction Kalona Mennonite Church WMSC CBI Bank & Trust Ramsey Creek Woodworks, Inc Wally and Millie Brenneman Justice $250499 The Water Shop Graber Heating & Air Conditioning Yoder Family Farms, Dave and Luke Yoder Everence Hope $500+ Kalona Mennonite Church Lamplighters Class Anonymous Helmuth Repair 43 Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale Map Barn 1 : Amish Buggy Rides Barn 2 : Children’s Activities, School Kits, My Coins Count, Barrel Train Barn 3 : Music Stage, Children’s Auction Barn 4 : Bedding Plants and Vegetables, Kettle Corn, Apple Butter Barn 5 : General Auction, Farmer’s Market Food Booth : Fresh Bread, Ice Cream, Pie Building A : Food Court, Massage Therapist Building B : Quilter’s Corner, Quilt Auction, Book Sale, Silent Auction, Crafts, Restrooms Building C : Friday Evening Meal, Saturday Morning Breakfast, Auction Cashier, Photography, Ten Thousand Villages, Restrooms Gazebo : Credit Card Station, Information 44 Thanks to the following businesses and individuals for their donations of auction items, services, or gifts in kind.
