New W100 Series Windrowers
Introducing the all-new
W100 Series Windrowers
The 110-hp W110 and the 148-hp W150
Windrowers offer you versatile and efficient
cutting. With interchangeable draper heads
from 15 to 40 feet (4.6 to 12.2 m) and
auger heads from 14 to 18 feet (4.3 to 5.5
m), you get a draper machine that can be
used in hay applications as well. You can
match the speed of reels and belts to your
ground speed with the header index. And
more than 45 inches (114 cm) of underframe
clearance keeps you going through tall crop.
4
New W100 Series Windrowers
Attaching and detaching platforms is easy, giving you the ability to
quickly change from hay to grain harvest. If you grow diverse crops, this
allows you use the machine for more hours annually and get a better
return on your investment.
5
New W100 Series Windrowers
Spend less time in transport
Transport wide draper platforms with ease and
control using the ballast box and 400D with an
integrated transport system. The optional ballast box
enables the power unit to safely transport without a
platform. It also has a hitch for attaching and towing
the 400D Platform.
Transport mode in 10 seconds. The W150 Windrower
transports with engine forward for full 23-mph (37km/h) transport speed. The reversible operator station
and controls allows engine forward transport. High
travel speeds are possible due to the increased stability
of having the drive wheels push the caster wheels.
6
New W100 Series Windrowers
An optional platform reverser
is available on the W150. Located
in front of the header drive switch, it is
easily activated from the operator’s station
to clear the platform of plugs that may occur.
On the 400D Platforms, the optional reverser (W150 only)
slowly reverses the optional conditioner and knife drive to
clear plugs. The reverser is recommended when using the optional hay
conditioner with the 400D Draper Platform. On the 100A Auger Platform
the reverser slowly reverses the conditioning rolls, auger, and reel.
7
400 Series Windrowers
400 Series Windrowers
The 400 Series Windrowers are designed to meet the
demands and productivity requirements of hay and small
grain growers with operations of all sizes and commercial
haying operations.
Built around a 200-hp, 6 cylinder, 6.8L John Deere
PowerTech E engine, the R450 and D450 Windrowers
have the power to get through the toughest crops.
Heavy-duty planetary drives and final drives give these
windrowers extra durability in the most challenging
conditions, but the ride stays smooth, thanks to the
IntelliAxle and larger front tires.
8
400 Series Windrowers
The D450 is compatible
with the same 600D
Draper Platforms that are
available for John Deere
combines, including
the 40-foot (12.2-m)
640D Platform.
The R450 is compatible
with the 994 and 995
Rotary Platforms.
9
400 Series Windrowers
All-day comfort, intuitive control
The 400 Series Windrowers offer user-friendly displays
and a comfortable operating experience for long days in
the field. A cab and controls similar to other John Deere
harvesting equipment makes it easy for operators to
move from one machine to the other.
A tilt-and-telescope steering column and
ComfortCommand™ air-suspension seat adjust to fit any
operator. The CommandARM™ keeps frequently used
controls within easy reach. The soft-touch control panel
lets you easily set ground speed range, access diagnostic
and calibration information and adjust climate control
temperature and fan speed.
The easy-to-read Primary Display Unit (PDU) makes it
easy to monitor machine functions as you run. The fullcolor display on the right-hand cornerpost shows
essential machine information, like fuel level, engine
temperature and platform or reel speed. In addition,
error messages and warning lights alert you to anything
out of the ordinary.
10
400 Series Windrowers
The ergonomic hydro-lever gives you
fingertip control of the most-often
used functions, including direction and
ground speed. Raise lower and adjust
platform tilt with one convenient 4-way
rocker switch. Move between high idle,
low idle and a variable idle by pushing
a single button. And, the parking
brake is automatically engaged when
the hydro-lever is moved to the park
position and the engine is not running.
Just like the controls in our combines,
the CommandCenter™ display (D450
only) gives you advanced control of the
draper settings, including belt speed,
float pressure and sensitivity, and tilt
position. Mounted on the armrest, the
CommandCenter display offers full
visibility to the display and allows an
unobstructed view of the platform head.
11
400D Draper Platforms
400D Draper Platforms
The new 400D Draper Platforms
can handle heavy and bulky
canola, wheat, barley, heavy silage,
and down tangled crops.
Compatible with the W110 and W150
Windrowers, the 400D drapers are
available in sizes from 15 feet (4.6
m) to 40 feet (12.2 m) and give you a
true-width cut. Even in wet,
tough, high-yielding crop
conditions, you’ll get even
crop feeding through the
full width of the draper.
The 430D, 435D, and 440D Draper models can be
equipped with an integral, slow-speed transport
system. One person can easily convert the draper
from field to transport in minutes without
the use of tools. Dual front-dolly wheel tires
and two gauge-wheel tires carry the complete
weight of the draper when in transport.
12
600D Draper Platforms
600D Draper Platforms
The 600D Draper Platforms are engineered
for high-performance reliability. Available
in widths from 25 feet (7.6 m) to 40 feet
(12.2 m), 600D Draper Platforms are
compatible with 400 Series Windrowers
as well as John Deere combines.
A dual-knife system gives you faster,
cleaner and smoother cutting.
The reel sweeps material onto the
draper for smooth feeding.
A redesigned cutterbar profile allows you
to cut as low as 1.5 inches (35 mm) from
the ground. Tall belt cleats, wide belts and
an optional top crop conveying auger keep
bushy crops moving across the platform.
The 630D, 635D, and the 640D Draper
models can be equipped with an integral,
slow-speed transport system. One person
can convert the draper from Ɵeld to
transport in a few minutes without the use
of tools.
No more cutterbar bulldozing in soft soil.
This exclusive electro-hydraulic system lets
you adjust the float pressure from the cab.
This keeps your cutterbar floating level
with the ground for off-ground cutting. It
also works well in on-ground cutting.
You’ll get smooth, vibration-free cutting with
a shaft-driven, in-line dual knife drive system.
A center-mounted hydraulic cylinder lets you
tilt the cutterbar from the convenience of the
cab, so you’ll get the optimum cutting angle
and the lowest possible cutting height.
13
994 and 995 Rotary Platforms
Smart design. Field-proven.
Make your R450 Windrower even more productive
with a 994 or 995 rotary platform. The lowprofile, modular cutterbar works at a flat angle,
reducing the chance of damage to the cutterbar,
especially in uneven or rocky fields.
And these platforms come with shearhub protection
to safeguard the cutterbar’s internal gears. Each
cutting disk is attached to a specially designed
driver on the splined pinion gear. The driver has
part of its splines removed so that it shears when
the disk hits a solid object. This shearing protects
the internal cutterbar components. Replacing
a shear hub is considerably easier (and far less
costly) than repairing or replacing a cutterbar.
The 994 Platform is available in 13-foot (4-m)
and 14-foot, 6-inch (4.4-m) working widths,
and the 995 Platform offers a 16-foot (4.9m) working width. Adjustable forming shields
on both platforms allow you to adjust windrow
formation to meet crop and field conditions.
1
1
A smarter way to protect. Replaceable wear caps
protect the knife hardware. They’re open on the
end so debris can’t pack in tight around the nut.
Hardware and knife changes are easier and faster.
2
Smooth and smart. Each module has two larger idler
gears and one drive gear that run in oil. The large oil
reservoir allows the disks to run quiet and cool, even
with a knife tip speed of 191 miles per hour (307 km/h).
3
Brawn to go with the brains. The patented,
diagonal-cut modules are made of nodular iron.
Eighty-five percent stronger than gray iron, nodular
iron is more impact resistant.
4
A cut above the rest. The thin, low-profile, modular
cutterbar lets you cut low with a flatter cutterbar
angle. A flatter angle reduces wear on components
and limits the chance of damage in rocky fields.
5
A smarter way to safeguard. Gears in each disk
are protected by a patented John Deere shear hub.
If you hit an obstruction tough enough to stop
the disk, splines on the hub will shear,
safeguarding the gear drive.
Repairs take minutes
rather than hours.

Easy cutterbar removal
The John Deere cutterbar features individual modules with a patented
diagonal design. Each module slips in and out individually. Just remove
seven bolts. The other modules remain attached to the cutterbar frame
when the single unit is removed. The cutterbar also can stay on the
machine during module removal. The diagonal-cut profile makes
alignment easy; reattach the bolts and you’re done.
100A Auger Platforms
Better durability with
heavy-duty components
The 100A Series Auger Platforms are available
in 14-ft (4.3 m), 16-ft (4.8 m), and 18-ft (5.5 m)
widths and are designed for use with the W110
and W150 Self-Propelled Windrowers.
The 100A Auger Platforms have a dual-knife
design for faster, cleaner and smoother cutting.
The reel teeth are designed to lift lodged and
tangled material, then draw it against the cutterbar
for close, clean cutting in any direction.
The header index adjusts the reel speed to the ground speed, letting you
focus on the platform position instead of adjusting the reel speed as the
windrower speed changes due to field conditions. The index maintains a
preselected speed based on the ground speed plus an easily adjusted
index number. This ensures that when you set the index, the reel will
turn fast enough to ensure proper crop flow.
The reel cam is easily adjusted to match crop release
to varying crop conditions, such as light to heavy crop.
You can easily control the reel speed from 15 rpm to 85
rpm. A simple, no-tool adjustment of the forming shields
gives you more control over the windrow formation. The
windrow width is adjustable from a narrow, 36-in. (91.4cm) swath to a wide, fast-drying 92-in. (234-cm) swath,
depending on crop conditions. The steel conditioning
rolls are powered by a hydraulic motor with an adjustable
speed from 601 rpm to 790 rpm and offer improved wear
life, particularly in adverse soil and crop conditions.
15
Conditioning Systems
Choose the system that’s right for you
More traction units, more platforms and more conditioning
options. No matter the crop or field conditions, John Deere has
a condition system designed for your needs. Your dealer can tell
you more about which system would be the best fit for you.
Impeller conditioners, available only on rotary platforms,
work well in crops that are under four feet tall when cut,
such as fine-stem grasses. They can be adjusted easily for
top conditioning in a variety of crops and field conditions.
Urethane rolls stay straight across the entire width
of the machine for even conditioning. Intermittent
recessed cleats provide extra crushing pressure.
Tri-Lobe steel rolls have three intermeshing chevron lobes that
crush the length of the stem for improved conditioning and
faster dry down, as well as durable and serviceable end shafts.
V-10 rolls bring the benefits of roll conditioning to
extra-tough crops, like sudan, sudex and cane, without
overpowering other crops like alfalfa or grass. Perfect for
high-use and abrasive crops, they’re extremely durable.
Steel rolls, available on the 100A Series, are a full 102-in.
(259-cm) wide to ensure thorough conditioning of the plant
stem. The steel-on-steel intermeshing roll design ensures
that leaves are retained for high protein value, providing
high-quality hay, forage, and alfalfa crops. The straight
design of these conditioner rolls makes them easy to repair,
as damaged sections can easily be cut out and replaced.

Conditioning Systems
Adjusted properly, impeller
conditioning can significantly reduce
drydown time. Evenly spaced V-shaped
tines are mounted on a rotating tube.
As soon as the hay is cut by the disks,
the tines carry it through the machine.
The hay rubs against itself and against
a specially designed, adjustable
conditioning hood. This removes the
waxy layer from the stems, allowing
moisture to evaporate faster.
Exclusive 105.5-inch (2.68-m) urethane
conditioning rolls on the 995 and 994
platforms feature intermittent recessed
cleats. Urethane is molded at a cool
temperature, so the steel core won’t
warp. Rolls stay straight to help hay dry
evenly.
No matter the crop or field conditions, John Deere has a conditioning system designed for your needs, your operation.
Your dealer can tell you more about which system would be the best fit for you.
John Deere exclusive Tri-Lobe rolls
crush the entire stem of the plant,
reducing curing and bleaching in
alfalfa, while speeding drydown in
heavy, thick-stemmed crop. Their
intermeshing chevron-patterned,
high-strength steel design cuts down
on wear. And replaceable end shafts
make for easier, less costly repairs .
Intermeshing steel-flutes on the
V-10 rolls put the rush on drydown.
Designed for thick-stemmed crops and
high-hour operations, these rolls
provide consistent conditioning that
maintains crop nutrients, even in the
most demanding conditions.
17
AMS Guidance
Better productivity in each pass
Better productivity starts with precision guidance. With
a complete line of receivers, monitors, and information
management software, John Deere offers a precise
guidance solution to fit any operation. Plus, easy-toinstall components can be moved between machines.

18
IntelliAxle™ Rear Steering-Assist System
You’ll work smarter with the GreenStar™ 3 2630 Display
and a StarFire 3000 Receiver. And you can easily
move them to your other equipment as needed.
Better handling
at any speed
It takes more than speed
to improve productivity. It
takes control to a cut a full
header-width on each pass.
It takes heavy-duty wheel
motors to deliver the torque
you need for rough terrain.
The key is the IntelliAxle™, a
speed-sensing rear steeringassist system available on
the 400 Series Windrowers.
The IntelliAxle responds to speed to
deliver control in three modes:
Mode 1: At speeds up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h), rear wheels rotate freely
to accommodate sharp turns and other low-speed maneuvers.
Mode 2: Between 4 (6.4 km/h) and 8 mph (12.9 km/h),
hydraulic cylinders attached to the rear steering arms
begin to apply pressure, steadying the wheels.
Mode 3: The system is fully engaged to provide stability
and control at speeds up to 21 mph (33.8 km/h).
19
Engines
Engines
The W100 windrowers
feature Tier 3-compliant
Cummins* 4.5 L, four-cylinder
