From the Presid ent of the Board
Dear Peace Family,
As Peace’s newly elected Board President, I thought
I would take this opportunity to address you
personally and offer my thanks for your continuing
support. I am excited and humbled to take on this
role of stewardship of such a terrific organization.
While Peace primarily offers services to those most
in need throughout our community, at its heart,
it is about more than that. It is about a diverse
group of people coming together across traditional
economic, racial, geographical and social dividing lines to embrace
one another.
To paraphrase the words of Mahatma Ghandi, it
is about all of us being the change we want to see in the world.
Having been on the board for the past four years, I have been struck by
the overwhelming generosity of spirit of the Peace Family. As we look
ahead, we will need to rely on that spirit to guide us through the economic
turbulence and trying times of our current situation so that we can continue
to build for the future. This year, Peace will be celebrating 40 years since
a group of community members got together to create a unique place for
people of all backgrounds to share commonalities for the greater good.
Over the course of that forty year history, Peace Neighborhood Center
has evolved and expanded to meet the needs of the families we serve.
From the humble beginnings of Peace’s Youth Programs and Summer Day
Camp, through the recent addition of the Peace House Transitional Housing
Center, Peace has been at the forefront of helping individuals strive for
their goals, rise to meet challenges and exceed expectations. As we step
into the future, Peace’s new Family Enrichment Program and a renewed
focus on College and Career Prep continues this legacy as we seek the
most effective and dynamic methods we can to break the cycle of poverty.
This work is not easy, and unfortunately, it is not cheap. We need your
help in order to make it happen. With that in mind, I urge you once
again to think about leaving a legacy gift in your will or insurance policy
that will insure that Peace can celebrate many more anniversaries to
come. Most of all, however, I ask that you keep Peace in your heart. It
is because of all of you that we are able to celebrate this milestone. On
behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank you. Let’s turn 40 in style!

Making Our Community Better... One Person At A Time

From th e Exe c ut ive Di recto r
Dea r Fa m ily Me m be r,
I would like to take a moment and “Thank You”. What we have accomplished this year has been amazing and inspiring. Overall, your effort in digging even deeper this year by
providing not only financial resources, but volunteer time and professional resources has been exceptional. However, it is your attention to the special needs of our community
that is truly awe striking. Several times this year, you have answered special calls when we have asked. When six youth in our programs lost their mother, you stepped up. When
Ryan needed help getting to college in Arizona, you stepped up. When a mother and her three children were in danger of losing their home, you stepped up. When Summer Day
Camp was in danger of being cut, you stepped up!
You have provided transportation, cooked for our youth programs, volunteered to run gardening programs, and helped to distribute toys. You’ve done landscaping, attended the
annual dinner, helped to paint our building, and provided so many gifts, blessings and outpourings from your heart. Many of you who gave this year are yourselves struggling to
maintain within this turbulent economy. Yet, you stepped up!
Together we are bringing change to the lives of those in need. These changes make our community better, and in so doing, make
all of us better. I am able to see these changes on an up close and personal basis as I interact with the families and children who
come through our doors. These changes break cycles and create a positive effect on generations to come.
As you step up to support us, we ask those we serve to step up and do their part to make positive life choices as they work
toward their goals. Whether the person we are serving is a recovering substance abuser, a young mother struggling to gain her
feet in this society or a young man or woman facing the pressures of adolescence, we ask only that they honestly put forth their
best effort to succeed. If they are fighting to stay in school while working two jobs to get by, they deserve our help. That is
stepping up, and we support them in their efforts.
We, the staff of Peace Neighborhood Center, are honored to do this work and to have your support. Without your continuing
commitment and willingness to help, we would be unable to touch the lives of so many. It is you
who make this possible and it is to you we give our thanks. May we all continue to be a service
to humanity.
Thank you for making all we did in 2010 possible!
In Service,
