5 WAYS TO REGISTER
ONLINE
Registration for Park District programs and classes is available online at www.darienparks.com. First-time users
must come in to the park district office at 7301 Fairview Ave. to establish an on-line account. To establish an
account, each resident (2 years & older) is required to prove residency. Proof of residency for adults can be a
current driver’s license, state ID, a current tax bill or recent utility bill. For minors, proof may be a copy of a
birth certificate, library card or school ID. Once an account has been established, simply log-in for secure access
to programs and classes.
WHAT IS RANDOM DRAW?

unless the class is filled. All registrations must

Confirmation of Registration
Written confirmation for classes will be sent for all registrations received.
If you have not received a confirmation, please call (630) 968-6400 to
check the status of your registration. Random Draw confirmation is mailed
or e-mailed within 10 days of processing registration. The Darien Park
District is not responsible for undelivered confirmations.
Discrimination
The Darien Park District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color,
sex, age, national origin, religion or disability in employment, treatment
of visitors and users, use of parks and facilities, or admission to and
participation in programs and activities of the District in compliance
with the Illinois Human Rights Act, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans
With Disabilities Act and the State of Illinois and U.S. Constitution.
We invite any resident with a special need to contact our staff upon
registration so that a smooth inclusion may occur.
Min/Max - What is it?
For each program at the Darien Park District, there is a minimum number
of registrations needed before a class can be offered and also a maximum
number of registrations that can be accepted. Meeting the minimum and
not exceeding the maximum helps to ensure that you and your family
will enjoy a cost-effective, positive recreation opportunity that includes
an appropriate instructor/student ratio.
Registration Deadlines
There is a point when the decision must be made to stop taking registration
for a class because it is filled, or to cancel a class due to low enrollment.
We reserve the right to change program content and/or schedules as
needed. Please don’t wait until the day a class begins to register.
Unless otherwise noted, the registration deadline for all programs is one
week prior to the start of the first class session. Registrations are still
accepted after this deadline, however, the class may be cancelled due to
low enrollment. Please register early to avoid being disappointed.
Program Changes
Due to the large amount of information available in the Darien Park
District brochure, errors before or after publication may occur. Errors
in code numbers, days, times or fees may occur. We apologize for any
errors in this brochure, and we will advise you of any changes as quickly
as possible. We thank you for your understanding when these types of
situations arise.
Residents/Non-Residents
Even though you are a resident of the City of Darien, you may not be
considered a resident when registering for Darien Park District programs.
Why? It is because the Darien Park District is a separate, tax supported
agency apart from the City of Darien. This means that even though you
may have a Darien address, you do not pay taxes to the Darien Park
District. The Park District tries to maintain the same boundaries as the
City, however it is not always possible. The quickest way to determine
your Park District resident status is to check your tax bill. The park
district you pay taxes to will be listed.
Returned Checks
Any check returned by the bank to the Darien Park District for any reason
will incur a $25 fee. Additional program registration will not be accepted
until all outstanding balances have been cleared.
Refunds
If insufficient enrollment causes an activity to be cancelled, participants
will receive a full refund in the mail. Please allow 2-3 weeks for the
processing of the refund.
Refunds will not be issued after the first class meeting unless the participant
has a medical condition that prohibits participation in the program. A doctor’s note will be required. The refund will be pro-rated based on the number of classes attended. A $5 service charge will be assessed to all refunds.
• Trips
Refunds are given only if your place can be sold or if the
Park District cancels the trip.
• All Other Refunds (unless otherwise noted)
Refunds will be issued if a request is received prior to the start of
a program minus a $5 service charge.
Accident Insurance
The Darien Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for
the participants of its programs. The cost of doing so would be so high
that fees charged for programs would become prohibitive. We suggest that
you review your family’s personal health insurance plan to be sure that it
provides you with sufficient coverage. At the time of registration, please
read the waiver and release of liability form included on the registration
form. It must be signed by an adult, or a parent/legal guardian for all
children under 18.
At your first program session you may be presented with an additional
sheet describing some of the risks involved in the particular activity you
have signed up for. If so, that additional form will become a part of your
Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement.
We also suggest that you check with your family physician before participating in any Park District programs that require physical exertion. If your
physician should discover some factor that could limit you physically,
please consider them when registering for programs.
We want the registrants in our programs to be aware in advance that when
they participate in certain activities, there is a natural element of risk of
injury which each participant must assume. The park district is covered
by liability insurance and will strictly enforce all rules.
Photography
Photos and videos are periodically taken by our staff of people participating
in Park District programs and activities. All persons registering for Park
District programs/activities, or using Park District property thereby agrees
that any photograph or videotape taken by the Park District may be used
by the Park District for promotional purposes including its electronic media,
videotapes, brochures, flyers and other publications without additional, prior
notice or permission and without compensation to the participant unless
the registrant or participant expressly files with the Park District a written
objection as to photos or videos of themselves and/or their children.

Two’s Day at School
An introduction to socialization is the primary focus of this program.
Children who have had limited opportunity to play and interact with
other children will benefit the most from this class. If your child is ready
for school but just isn’t potty trained yet, this class is for you. We will
accept children in diapers or pull-ups, but should your child have an
accident and require changing, we will contact you and you’ll need to
come and change them. Crafts, circle time & snack will be mixed in
with a morning of FUN activities!! The first day of class is a parent’s
meeting so please plan on attending. A copy of the child’s birth certificate
is required at the time of registration.

Just learning to play and share with other children can be challenging for
a toddler. Our parent-tot “open play” class is a perfect opportunity for
your toddler to learn to share and interact with other children, and still
have mom or dad close by. After exploring our toys and art experience
for the day, we will visit our indoor motor room! No siblings please.

Science of Magic
Science of Magic introduces children to a wide variety of scientific topics,
challenging them to think logically and scientifically. Natural curiosity
leads the way to the ultimate in inquiry-based learning as children ask,
“How did they do that?” Scientific concepts ranging from optics to
optical illusions and the importance of observation, to the chemistry
of hydrophilic polymers are investigated. Building an illusion box with
a hidden mirror teaches about the science of optics. There are many
illusions for children to see and try as they unlock the secrets of the
science of magic.

Learn Soccer From Professional Trainers!
Come join the only option for a quality recreational soccer program in Darien! The Darien Park District and Eclipse Select Soccer Club have put
together a tremendous, year round, recreational youth soccer program that your child will love. By signing up with us your child will receive training
sessions and small sided soccer games. Small sided soccer games will decrease the numbers on the field and, enhance the game quality and experience
for all participants. Your player will learn better ball control, balance, agility, and decision making skills while in our 8-week program.
All teams will require a parent volunteer coach who will need to be present at all trainings and games. Practices will be run by Eclipse coaches who
will guide volunteer coaches towards learning the techniques needed to develop their coaching skills.
Fall Outdoor 2016 Session
At the start of the session players will be placed on teams that train once a
week; Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The day of practice will be based on
which division and team your child is placed on; all games will be played
on Sunday. We will play at Westwood Park and the Sportsplex in case of
inclement weather. Included in the fee is a SRL t-shirt to wear throughout
the session.

DARIEN PARK DISTRICT- SPORTSPLEX SOCCER PROGRAM WAIVER & RELEASE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Darien Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Darien Park
District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of
minors registering for this program must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities.
You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or adequately skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the
participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.
WARNING OF RISK: Soccer is intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice,
conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury. All hazards and dangers cannot be foreseen. Because soccer is a contact sport played with little or no equipment and because it puts great
demands on stamina, the very nature of the game of soccer is hazardous and risky. Such risks and dangers include, but are not limited to, acts of kicking, heading and fielding the ball, colliding with other players
or stationary objects, being struck by errant balls, running, jumping, stretching, sliding, diving, acts of God, inclement weather, poor officiating, inadequate or defective equipment, failure in supervision or instruction,
poor officiating, unsportsmanlike conduct, dangerous or defective playing conditions such as rocks or holes on or off the playing field, incorrect footwear in poor weather conditions, horseplay, carelessness, and all
other circumstances inherent to sport of soccer. In this regard, it is impossible of the Darien Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK: Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in this program/activity, you will be
expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities
connected with and associated with this program/activity (including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided).
I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in this program/activity, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of
severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a
result of participating in this program/activity against the Darien Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees.
I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning or risk, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or
via fax, my on-line or facsimile signature shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as an original form signature.
Permission to photograph participants is authorized by your signature on this waive By signing this waiver, I understand that my child or I may be photographed at any Darien Park District
program, even or facility. I give permission for photographs of my child or me to be used to promote the park district through press releases, brochures, and other promotional materials. Such photographs will remain
the property of the Darien Park District. Please tell the instructor & photographer if you do not want to be photographed.

Bandy League
Come try out our exciting new program we will begin
offering this fall. The Darien Park District is working with
the United States Bandy League to run our inaugural season
of bandy leagues. American Bandy is based on floorball
played all over Europe, the sport is like hockey but played
on a non-ice surface.
Our plan is to not have teams preset but rather break the
players into teams each night so that each player gets the
opportunity to play, to learn, and to have fun every time
they arrive. We will offer four division; U8, U10, U12,
and U14. More information will be available in September
as we finalize the program.
Expected Options
Session I: October through Mid-November
Session II: Mid-November through December
Session III: January through Mid-February
Cost: $80 per player
League will play games Monday-Thursday and more info
will be available as we approach the start date.
Registration will begin in September

Classical Pilates
Every move we make in our daily life - sitting, standing,
walking, and lifting - is supported by the core muscles
of the stomach, back and pelvis. Pilates, developed
nearly a century ago by Joseph Pilates, is the most
evolved system for strengthening these important core
muscles which help keep the body balanced and which support the spine.
The central aim of Pilates is to create a fusion of mind and body so that
movement is efficient, balanced and graceful. You will learn how to
engage and stabilize the muscles of the core to initiate movement, rather
than using movement to activate the muscles. Pilates is beneficial to young
and old, men and women, athletes and the physically challenged. The
exercises can be tailored to the beginner, intermediate, and advanced
student. Have fun learning these controlled, precise movements designed
to stretch and strengthen muscle without adding bulk. Please bring a mat
and water bottle.

Restorative “Yin” Yoga
Restorative or “Yin” yoga is a restful, calming practice
that helps promote deep relaxation of the body and
mind. This class will focus on seated yoga sequences
of typically only 6-8 poses that may include light twists,
forward folds and gentle backbends; using props (blocks
and straps), allowing the student to completely relax. The poses are held
for 3-5 minutes, which stretches the deeper, connective tissue in the body
and improves overall joint flexibility. Pair this class with your weekly
yoga practice as the perfect complement to a vigorous (vinyasa or flow)
yoga schedule or try this class as a great way to introduce yoga into your
wellness regiment. Please bring a yoga mat and water.

Victorian Holiday at Jacob
Henry Mansion
Enjoy the ambiance and tradition of Marshall Field’s “Walnut Room”
at Joliet’s own Gathering Room on The Jacob Henry Mansion Estate.
The Mansion’s very own 26-foot fully-decorated Christmas tree and live
music are sure to set the perfect atmosphere for a new holiday tradition.
After the luncheon festivities, we will be visiting the Old Central Church
on the Estate. The beautifully decorated exterior and interior is a classic
example of grand churches in the late 1800’s. The chapel, completely
remodeled, was painstakingly kept in much of its original condition, from
the hand-carved pillars to the massive domed ceiling and the working pipe
organ. We welcome you to take some time to stroll through this historic
church where Marshall Field IV was married on May 12, 1950. When

You will be inspired with patriotism as you take in the majesty of our nation’s capital on our bus tour to Washington, DC! The iconic National
Memorials on the National Mall are the centerpiece of the city’s landscape. Our tour includes the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the new
World War II Memorial, and much more. You will also see the White House, the Capital Building, Embassy Row, and more. This vacation package
also includes a visit to the famous Smithsonian Institute. We’ll also visits Arlington National Cemetery, site of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the
Kennedy graves, the Iwo Jima memorial, and more. We will return from Washington, DC inspired with a reminder of what makes America great!
The Smithsonian - Founded in 1846, the Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum and research complex, consisting of 19 museums and galleries,
the National Zoological Park and nine research facilities.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial - The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is conceived of as an engaging landscape experience
tied to other landscapes and monuments, not as a single object or memorial dominating the site. The composition of the memorial utilizes landscape
elements to powerfully convey four fundamental and recurring themes throughout Dr. King’s message: justice, democracy, hope and love. The
semicircular geometry of the memorial, juxtaposed within the triangular configuration of the site, engages the Tidal Basin and views to the water.
The Lincoln Memorial - The Lincoln Memorial stands at the west end of the National Mall as a neoclassical monument to the 16th President.
The memorial, designed by Henry Bacon, after ancient Greek temples, stands 190 feet long, 119 feet wide, and almost 100 feet high. It is surrounded
by a peristyle of 36 fluted Doric columns, one for each of the thirty six states in the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death.
The Washington Monument - The Washington Monument is the most prominent structure in Washington, D.C. and one of the city’s early
attractions. It was built in honor of George Washington, who led the country to independence and then became its first President. The Monument
is shaped like an Egyptian obelisk, stands 555’ 5 1/8” tall, and offers views in excess of thirty miles. It was finished on December 6, 1884.
The Washington National Cathedral - Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church. It is the sixth-largest cathedral
in the world, the second-largest in the United States, and the fourth-tallest structure in Washington, D.C. In 2009, nearly 400,000 visitors toured the
structure. The National Cathedral began construction in 1907 and refinements continue to this very day.
The Iwo Jima Memorial - The Iwo Jima Memorial, also known as the U. S. Marine Corps War Memorial, honors the Marines who have died
defending the United States since 1775.
The Tomb of the Unknowns - The Tomb of the
Unknowns, near the center of the cemetery, is one of
Arlington’s most popular tourist sites. The Tomb contains
the remains of unknown American soldiers from World
Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
The Tomb is guarded 24-hours-per-day and 365-days-per
year by specially trained members of the 3rd United States
Infantry (The Old Guard).
Arlington National Cemetary - Honor, remember
and explore at the Arlington National Cemetery, a United
States military cemetery beneath whose soil have been laid
causalities and deceased veterans of the nation’s conflicts
beginning with the American Civil War as well as reinterred
dead from earlier wars.

exhibits of glass and historical items tell the story of Sandwich’s greatest contribution to the American Industrial Revolution.
Outer Cape, Provincetown & Chatham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Eastham Windmill - The Eastham Windmill is believed to be the oldest and last working gristmill on Cape Cod and one of Eastham’s major tourist
draws. Originally constructed by Eastham resident Thomas Paine in Plymouth during the late 1600s, it was moved to nearby Truro in 1770, to Eastham
in the late 1700s and finally to its current location near Eastham Town Hall in the early 1800s.

paraphernalia in the visitor center’s bookstore.

learn about the historical significance of Marconi Station including information about the first transatlantic radio transmission and picking up the
SOS distress signal from the sinking Titanic during the early 1900s. Marconi Station is also known for its breathtaking views of glacial sand cliffs
and the Atlantic Ocean that stretches into the horizon.
Hyannis Harbor Cruise - The highlight of your Cape Cod vacation package awaits you in Hyannis. Often referred to as the capital of the Cape,

Darien Garden Club
The Darien Garden Club (previously the Darien Park
District Garden Club) was formed in 2001 when a small
group of women (about 10) had a vision to start a garden
club in Darien. Since then, club membership has grown
to over 50 people who share a passion for gardening
and nature. The club sponsors educational sessions at its
monthly meetings and is a member of The Garden Clubs
of Illinois, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc. These
affiliations provide a conduit for countless educational
opportunities. In addition to educational programs, the
Darien Garden Club participates in community outreach
programs including: maintenance of numerous garden
beds and planters around town, philanthropic activities
related to gardening, participation in the Darien Park
District Farmer’s Market providing information and
locally grown perennial plants for sale, support and
participation in the Indian Prairie Public Library seed
swap program, informal garden walks in members’
gardens and garden related field trips. Our annual
speaker event, Spring Gardening Inspiration, has been
well received by attendees and grown in popularity.
