Spring 2015 - Paramus Elks Lodge
Paramus Elks Lodge 2001 • Paramus, New Jersey 07652 September, 2013 SPRING 2015 The Exalted Ruler’s Message Published Published BiBi-Monthly -monthly Lodge recognizes youth essays Debbie Kirkland, Exalted Ruler Unity is strength - when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. Mattie Stepanek As I sat down to write my last article for 2014-2015 Elk year, the one word that kept popping up was UNITY. We all have worked hard this year making it through many struggles and together we came out being stronger and more connected as brothers and sisters than ever before. The pride in being a Paramus Elk showed itself in the support and work of both old and new members. From the rebuilding and repairing of the handicapped entrance to the running of multiple successful events. The collaboration between committees was nothing short of awesome. Many new changes took place as we forged forward to make future years even more successful. and I have no doubt Paramus is on the upswing. As my year is coming to end it is great to see the unity is continuing and committees are really having positive growth. Everyone is open to new ideas and possibilities. Don’t worry. We are still keeping some of the old favorites like The Country Western Dance, The Elegants, Irish Night, End of Summer Car Show, Pasta Night, Pancake Breakfast, Continued on page 2 See special Pull-Out section on Elk of the Year 2015 honoring Chris Civello Pages 5-8 photo by Jim Africano Above: Rosa Rizollo (far left), chair of Americanism Committee, poses with winners of this year’s essay contest, “What the American flag means to me”, on Tuesday February 24th. During the current lodge year we have contributed $966.00 to the ENF. There are ten lodges in our district and we are in eighth place. Five lodges have donated more than $10.00 per member. The state has 115 lodges and we are in 83rd place. For your information, the Bergenfield Lodge leads the state by donating $33.95 from each of their 228 members. PER George Picart came to our rescue in December with another nice donation. I should point our that our editor, Jim Africano, as well as the Lodge made a nice donation in December to put us over the top. The ENF thanks any member who has taken part in this charity. In many instances your donation may be matched by your employer. Look into it if you have considered a donation. Also, remember that your donation is tax deductible, The ENF sponsors the youth activities of the lodge, donated grants to our community, and gives scholarships to children and grandchildren of lodge members. It is a good cause and the Elks own charity. Finally, last month’s question: “Who was the first female member of Paramus Lodge 2001? The answer is Maryanne Nastasi. One month to go in the Lodge year.
