Vision 2015 - Mission of Hope, Haiti
2015 VISION MOH HAITI Mission of Hope VISION As an organization following Jesus Christ, Mission of Hope exists to bring life transformation to every man, woman, and child in Haiti. “We came to Haiti when we traveled to Mission of Hope in the summer of 2013. Our family was overwhelmed by the spirit and kindness of the people of Haiti, the dedication of the MOH staff and the compelling mission of MOH. We knew immediately that we wanted to be a part of helping MOH realize its vision of bringing life transformation to every man, woman, and child in Haiti. We all returned to our home in Arkansas as different people. Through MOH, we have a better understanding of how God calls on us to spread His word and serve others. Recently, our 15 year old son came to us and said that he and a friend wanted to start a shoe drive at his school to benefit Haitian children. They are calling it ‘Share-a-Pair.’ That is a real life example of the impact that MOH has had on our family.” JEFF & LISA GEARHART, ROGERS, ARKANSAS Jeff is the Executive Vice President, Global Governance and Corporate Secretary for Walmart and serves on the Mission of Hope President’s Council 2 3 Mission of Hope CORE VALUES Relational Proclamation Evangelistic Saturation Indigenous Mobilization Holistic Transformation Excellent Implementation These core values are the basis for all ministry and provide the litmus test for effectiveness. “It is one thing when church members hear leaders talking about the world and its need. It’s another thing when they meet the world face to face. It is the personal connection that enlarges people’s hearts.” MEL LAWRENZ Minister at Large at Elmbrook Church 4 5 156,963 LIVES IMPACTED Angelie is one of the children that lives full-time in the Village of Hope. When she arrived at Mission of Hope after being abandoned, doctors said she would never walk and would always struggle to see well, because of a cataract in one of her eyes. But through healthy nutrition, quality medical care, and consistent love, she has proven them wrong! She is a beautiful five-year-old with a contagious laugh who runs and plays. This year, thanks to a visiting eye doctor, she has also been given glasses that allow her to see well for the first time in her life. Her love for Jesus pours out to everyone she meets as a by-product of the life transformation she has experienced. 2014 STATISTICS CHURCH ADVANCEMENT 11 Villages served 35 Village Champions 223 Pastors trained in Bible Leadership Class 481 HaitiOne partner organizations 1,615 People prayed to receive Christ 6,576 Children participated in VBS EDUCATION AND NUTRITION 34 Schools using Mwen Kapab 6,093 Students educated using Mwen Kapab 90,897 Meals served to children daily 30,000,000+ Total meals served HEALTH CARE 223 Dental patients served 503 Prosthetics patients served 1,515 Vision patients served 11,342 Mobile clinic patients served 16,102 On-site clinic patients served MORE TRANSFORMATION 62 Children in the Village of Hope 150+ Part-time Haitian employees 400+ Full-time Haitian employees 440+ Homes built in Leveque 2,012 Farmers trained 5,148 Short term mission trip participants 590,995 Meals purchased in Haiti 710,496 Meals packaged in Haiti 6 The MOH team met Mr. Anasta on a medical outreach visit in Simonette. When he arrived, he had a large tumor in his mouth and was near starvation, since it was impossible for him to eat. Through a series of God-ordained meetings, the team was able to get him to an oral surgeon who removed the tumor and brought physical transformation that was remarkable. But more importantly, in the process of ministering to him, the staff of MOH was able to lead Mr. Anasta to Christ! He is now serving in his local church and sharing with them the miracles that God has done in his life. “My name is Romajine Jerome. I am 19 years old and live in Cabaret. Because of Mission of Hope, I was able to graduate from high school and am now attending the university to study Business Administration Management. I chose Business Administration for many reasons: to work in my church as a secretary for management, to learn to manage myself better, and to be involved in the community. My vision is to impact Haiti with my skills by helping my community in the management of their agriculture products, to open a health center for my community, and to challenge my community to be better servants of Christ.” STORIES OF LIFE TRANSFORMATION 7 WHAT WE DO MYDALINE’S STORY OF LIFE TRANSFORMATION In 2012, when Mydaline was 8 years old, a truck crashed into her family’s home in Titanyen in the middle of the night, killing her grandmother. Mydaline was forced to have her leg amputed as a result of injuries she received. This summer, Mydaline came to VBS. As Amanda, one of our staff members, was visiting with her and her brother, she mentioned our Prosthetics Clinic, asking Mydaline if she had ever been there. The older brother replied, “Oh, no! We don’t have any money for that!” When Amanda explained to them that there is no cost to the patient, because of the generosity of donors who provide the funding for the patients to receive prosthetic limbs free of charge, Mydaline’s face lit up! She said, “You mean I could get a new leg?” Within 3 weeks, sweet Mydaline was being fitted for a new leg and is now looking forward to a very different future! 8 CHURCH ADVANCEMENT EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT MOBILIZATION 9 CHURCH ADVANCEMENT WHAT IS CHURCH ADVANCEMENT? Church Advancement is Mission of Hope working with churches around the world to strategically partner with local Haitian churches to bring life transformation to every man, woman, and child in their villages. Each village will have local Village Champions who are trained and equipped to see and meet the needs of the specific people in their own village in four primary areas. SPIRITUAL FORMATION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT HEALTH CARE • • • • • Gospel Biblical equipping Pastoral coaching Supporting the local churches Vacation Bible School (VBS) • Investing in Haiti’s youth through education • Quality, Christ-centered curriculum taught by trained, caring teachers • Over 90,000 children fed a nutritious daily meal • • • • • • • • • Sports development Home building Roadwork Business development Orphan care Mobile clinics Community health initiative Latrines Prosthetics PAPITASS DERVIL JOSEPH’S STORY “Being a Village Champion is really hard work, but really great. What we get to do is really amazing. We try to transform exactly what the vision of MOH is into our villages, as we work with all the pastors in the area. We bring them together to finish lots of projects and programs: building homes, building latrines, blessing churches, having mobile clinics, planting trees, taking care of the widows and a lot of other great things. Village Champions and pastors are working together to take the time to know which children in our villages go to school and those that do not yet. I think that is a great part of life transformation. Being a Village Champion inspires me to take care of the people in my village. I can see a lot of change. Before I was a Village Champion, we didn’t really have the idea and the vision to take care of our own people. Now I am trying to find a good way to help my village grow spiritually first and then in materials. I think my village will grow and grow because of this great vision.” 10 PASTOR ELISON’S STORY “When I was young, I went to a crusade held at a local church. The message was about how people who don’t know Christ aren’t living a fulfilled life. God didn’t create us to worship anything else but Him. That day in 1989, I accepted Christ and immediately began serving those in the church. The older men in my church began to mentor me and then the church paid for me to attend Bible college and I graduated in 2003. The most important thing the Church in Haiti can do to reach our nation is to pray. We also must train leaders and those who are faithful at the local churches. We must disciple the new people who accept Christ. We must teach them about the Bible. After that, the people themselves are equipped to serve people and begin to share the Gospel with everyone they interact with. The Word of God transforms everything about a person. The Gospel of Jesus Christ changes hearts and will be the thing that will change this nation.” 11 EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT? Mission of Hope believes that a Christ-centered education is fundamental to a healthy society, a growing economy, a stable political climate, and a thriving church. By investing in Haiti’s children and youth through a Christ-centered curriculum like “Mwen Kapab” and by intentionally developing its future leaders, we believe we are making a significant investment into the future of a transformed Haiti. QUALITY EDUCATION CHILD SPONSORSHIP • 17 schools serving approximately 5,500 students in 2014-2015 • Teacher Training Center at MOH North Campus MWEN KAPAB • Means “I Can” in English • Christ-centered curriculum by North American and Haitian educators that can be used in every school throughout Haiti THE GOSPEL NUTRITION • Feeding over 90,000 children daily • 32,000 square foot food warehouse • Goal of feeding 100,000 children per day by 2016 TECHNICAL SCHOOL • Training in hospitality, diesel mechanics, construction, education, and information technology • Goal is to empower Haitian graduates with trade skills and business competency to launch or build businesses and rebuild their local communities WICKY’S STORY Josaphat Noel (Wicky) grew up attending the School of Hope, was active in the Church of Hope, and worked as an interpreter, helping to lead many of the missions teams that have served Haiti through Mission of Hope. When Wicky graduated from our MOH high school in the spring of 2009, he began university studies in Port Au Prince. When the earthquake hit in January, 2010, Wicky’s university was destroyed. Because of this, in the fall of 2010, he restarted his studies in the Dominican Republic. In November 2014, Wicky graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from a top university in the DR! During his 4 years of studies (which were conducted in Spanish), Wicky continued to grow as a leader in a local church, using his gifts of worship and public speaking. Wicky has now returned home to Haiti and works for Mission of Hope, taking the next step in his journey to become a man of influence who is changing his nation for the Kingdom. 12 NUTRITIOUS MEAL SENSE OF PURPOSE TAKING TRANSFORMATION TO EVERY NATION 13 MOBILIZATION SERVICE ACTIVITIES • Driven by the individual village needs, as discovered and led by Haitian Village Champions. • Work projects • Strategic village ministry • Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) • Medical ministry WHAT IS MOBILIZATION? In 2014, over 5,000 people personally came to partner with Mission of Hope to meet the needs of the Haitian people, and in the process of serving others while on a short-term mission trip, experienced a personal life change of their own. These individuals took back to their own communities the idea of meeting real physical needs with the intention of bringing life transformation to every man, woman, and child in their own personal spheres of influence. WHAT YOU DO FOR A WEEK IS PART OF A GREATER PLAN! TEAM HOUSING • North – includes Leadership Training Center • Central – includes Village of Hope Orphanage MEDICAL MOBILIZATION • Mobile clinics • On-site clinics, including: - Regular medical care - Vision clinics - Dental clinics - Prosthetics A SHORT-TERM TRIP PARTICIPANT’S PERSPECTIVE “Wow. Haiti! Mission of Hope. God’s love. Powerful. All-encompassing LOVE. Those are a few key phrases and words that come to mind when I think of my mission trip to Haiti with MOH, Thanksgiving 2014. This trip challenged me to become a village champion in my own community and to give back to God 100%, 100% of the time. I pray that this trip changed lives the way it changed mine. God bless Haiti and MOH!” CARMEN 14 A SENIOR PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE “The more people that travel to Mission of Hope, Haiti from our church, the more they come back on mission to reach their neighbors. On a trip to Haiti, they both see and experience life transformation, and then return home ready to bring the hope of Jesus to their friends and neighbors.” JOHN BURKE Lead Pastor Gateway Church 15 VISION 2015 IMPACT 200,000+ LIVES IMPACTED IN 2015 CHURCH ADVANCEMENT 500 HaitiOne partner organizations 1,000 Pastors trained in Bible Leadership Class 7,500 Children participating in VBS EDUCATION AND NUTRITION 6,000 Students sponsored and educated MORE TRANSFORMATION 650 Homes built in Leveque 2,000 Farmers trained 6,000 North Americans serving 1,000,000 Meals purchased and packed in-country NEW INITIATIVES The Grace House Technical School Sports Complex Transition House 10,000 Children taught using Mwen Kapab 100,000 Meals served daily HEALTH CARE 15,000 Mobile clinic patients served 15,000 On-site clinic patients served 20,000 Taught community health 16 17 MISSION OF HOPE INVESTMENT NEEDED TO FINANCIAL INFORMATION IMPACT 200,000+ LIVES IN 2015 HOW WE USE FUNDS RECEIVED TO TRANSFORM LIVES CHURCH ADVANCEMENT 1% • Over 90% of all gifts that come into Mission of Hope go directly to Haiti, to bring about life transformation for every man, woman, and child. • All of our programs are carefully and consistently monitored to ensure maximum impact for the people of Haiti. 18 EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT MOBILIZATION 2% 97% PROGRAM TOTAL $4,000,000 $2,200,000 $2,000,000 $8,200,000 ADMINISTRATIVE FUNDRAISING 19 BECOME OUR PARTNER BECOME A CHILD SPONSOR • Visit mohhaiti.org/sponsorshipcatalog and sponsor a child for $35 / month • Participate in a “Change One” Child Sponsorship Day • Get 10 kids sponsored and earn a free trip to Haiti 20 BECOME A CHURCH ADVANCEMENT PARTNER • Choose a focus village to support • Fund village specific projects • Host a Vision Trip BECOME A PARTICIPATE IN PARTER OF HOPE MISSION OR • Sponsor a child for $35 / month • Provide a one-time or recurring donation VISION TRIP to fund the “ministry engine” that funds all ministry programs • Participate in a mission or vision trip • Serve the mission and surrounding communities through work projects and ministry • Help bring life transformation to every man, woman, and child in Haiti 21 22 23 U.S. OFFICE P.O.
