low budget, as do most technical
type classrooms. It is important for

Through all of this assistance to the
St. Cloud Technical and Community
College of St. Cloud, ATS made sure
to participate in the school’s
community wide project, which
occurred in early May. The Technical
College was simply looking for
companies that were dependent on
diesel mechanics for success to be
displayed in a photo shoot (pictured
below). ATS along with a handful of
other local companies jumped right
in to show their support, which will be
displayed on the college’s website.
ATS Honored by Walmart
2014 Fixture/Construction Carrier of the Year
On May 28, 2015 Walmart honored
ATS with its Transportation Carrier of
the Year award for 2014. As part of
Walmart’s carrier/commodity
classification of the award, ATS was
the recipient of the
Fixture/Construction Carrier Award.

Short traveled to the St. Cloud

to ATS CEO, Rollie Anderson, and
ATS divisional staff members.
Each year, the award is given to
companies who provide outstanding
support to Walmart stores, Sam’s
Clubs, and distribution facilities
located throughout the United States.
Dedication to customer service,
effective communication and
innovation in a changing industry
were considerations in determining
the award.
Walmart’s Kevin X. Jones had this to
say upon presenting the award to
Rollie Anderson, “Anderson Trucking
Service, Inc. has consistently
provided Walmart with exceptional
service, maintained excellent safety
standards, and is a foremost leader
in the transportation industry. It is a
pleasure working with your
management, administrative, and
transportation teams.”
What’s News
New ATS Maintenance Shop-St. Cloud
Construction of the new St. Cloud Shop
is under way! The timeline for moving
into the new shop is May of 2016.
Resting on a 50 acre site located 0.83
miles from the Corporate Office, the new
shop is going to be an 86,000 square
foot multi-use facility. The building’s
façade will be our first pre-cast concrete
building and will have the most outside
concrete and asphalt of any of our
terminals. Housed in the building will be
truck and trailer maintenance as well as
some office and driver training space,
Driver Orientation, CES, Road Service
and the Body Shop. There is a large
driver’s lounge that includes a quiet
room, a workout room, laundry and
showers. Drivers are still welcome to use
the lounge at the Corporate Office, in
addition to the lounge at the new shop.
We are excited to display the rendering
of what the building is anticipated to look
like below.

ATS Remembers
Norm Pfannenstein
September 4, 1925 - February 12, 2015
There is deep sadness when one of ATS’
originals passes away. Norm began his
career at Anderson Trucking as a driver.
After years spent on the road
Pfannenstein transitioned into a
dispatcher for ATS in the 80s. Norm’s
children recalled their father’s love for the
trucking days which instilled love and
respect for the industry they carry today
because of him.

ATS International Projects Europe
GmbH (Bremen), Bremen, Germany
(ATSI) recently executed a
successful full turnkey transport of a
1200 metric ton industrial press from
origin Paderborn, Germany to final
destination Cayirova - Kocaeli,
Turkey.
Once the massive press had been
dismantled for transport, ATSI was
contracted to arrange cargo
packaging, container loading of
accessory components, container
transport, main press-head (82,50
metric ton / 120 cbm) barge charter
via river Rhine to Port of Antwerp,
port handling, ocean transit to Port of
Discharge Gemlik, Turkey, and final
delivery/ on-carriage to Cayirova Kocaeli, Turkey. In addition to the
transport of the containers and main
press-head, ATSI also managed
transport of additional overdimensional accessory components
by means of Ro/Ro vessel ex Port of
Bremerhaven, Germany via Port of
Derince, Turkey to final destination.

Celebrating Our Small Beginnings
Read Me & Win

which sparked my question:
“Dad did you ever have a horse?”
“No,” he replied, “but I rode one from
time to time.”

“Well, when I was about 10 years of
age and your grandfather, Elmer,
could afford to rent a horse, he sent
me over to a stable and I rode the
horse bareback to the worksite at the
granite quarry.”

There has always been a tendency
to despise the day of small
beginnings. But whenever small
beginnings surpass expectations,
jeers turn into cheers!
The Bible has much to say about
small beginnings. Consider, for
instance, what Jesus said about the
Kingdom of God: “It is like a grain of
mustard seed that a man took and
sowed in his garden, and it grew and
became a tree, and the birds of the
air made nests in its branches.”
(Luke 13:19)
The Bible actually celebrates small
beginnings! Every nation, business
and person that has survived and
lived to thrive had a very small
beginning. For centuries,
entrepreneurs have been
encouraged by the Bible during their
days of small beginnings. Anderson
Trucking Service is no exception!
One of my final and fondest
memories of my father, Harold
Anderson, occurred six months
before his passing in 2001. On a
beautiful summer day in June, Dad
and I decided to take a day trip to his
hometown of Isle, Minnesota. He
was nearly 85 years of age and on

to pulleys and cables was used to
winch large blocks and slabs of
granite from the floor of the quarry.
Your grandpa harnessed the horse
to the flywheel so that heavy stones
were hoisted up from the bottom of
the quarry as the horse walked
around and around, making it
possible to load the stones onto
trucks.”
“Wow!” I responded. “But what did
grandpa do when he couldn’t afford a
horse?”

Outlook for Wind Energy Services
2015/2016

What’s News
Like Father, Like Son
ATS has been serving the Wind
Energy industry for over ten years.
During this time we grew to become
the dominant market leader, a
position we still hold today. Last year
we delivered over 12,000 wind
turbine components; 120,000 since
we started in 2003.
Why have we been so successful in
this market segment for so long? To
put it simply, EXCELLENCE. Critical
to achieving this excellence are:

Size – None of our
competitors come close to
the amount of Wind trailers
in our fleet.

Capable drivers and Escorts
– Wind components are
difficult to transport but our
well-trained group of drivers
and escorts consistently get
the job done.

Operational expertise – We
possess the considerable
expertise in the areas of
project planning, project
management, permits,
escorts and route/equipment
planning that is needed to
successfully execute a Wind
project.

Safety –Our well-developed
processes and procedures in
the area of safety
management leads to a very
low rate of incidents and
accidents.

understanding of the sector
and can anticipate market
changes, particularly in the
area of component size and
equipment requirements.
Our well-oiled “wind machine” is
capable of handling virtually any
North American Wind project,
whether it be a massive 200 turbine
project in Iowa or a 15 turbine
specialty project in Hawaii.
In early May, ATS Specialized driver,
Dawain J. and VP of Driver
Recruiting, Joe Goering were able to
help bring the family of one of ATS’
drivers closer together.
Ever since Kenneth H. began with
ATS his son, Trace always wanted to
have a shirt and jacket that matched
his Dad’s. One day, Kenneth posted
on the Drive4ATS page asking
where he could obtain patches that
his wife could apply to their son’s
clothing and outerwear. Dawain saw
the post and stepped up to help. He
emailed Goering who quickly put the
patches in the mail for Harden’s son.
Kenneth and his wife were incredibly
thankful for the thoughtful gift.
Although we got off to a slow start
this year, 2015 should exceed 2014
in total delivered components. And
as we look ahead to 2016, the early
indication is another very busy year
which is likely to start much earlier
than 2015.
Beyond 2016, the market needs
another extension of the Production
Tax Credit (PTC) in order to continue
at the current brisk pace. This credit
is a major driver of the industry,
providing a 2.2 cent per kilowatt-hour
benefit for the first ten years of a
Wind facility’s operation. Multiple
industry sources believe that an
extension will likely happen at the
end of 2015. That would help to
ensure we don’t see a drop off in
2017.
Even without an extension, the future
of Wind still looks promising.
Turbine manufacturers such as GE,
Vestas and Siemens keep improving
the technology and it’s widely
believed that the industry could be
PTC independent in several years.
Casual Day for
Charity

Each month ATS corporate holds a
casual day for charity. The charity
selected for February was American
Heart Association. Like many of our
casual day charities, American Heart
Association was submitted by an
employee. Employees raised $735
for the month’s casual day for
charity. ATS contributed $350 so our
grand total was $1083.

In the Earth Day 5k Corporate
Challenge ATS teams placed 6th, 7th,
11th, 16th, 18th, 24th, and 28th out of a
total of 33 corporate teams. The
race took place on 04/17/15 at the

created by Harold is still strong and
it is stronger than ever.
Longevity is a component of
success and 60 years validates the
success of Anderson Trucking
Service, Inc.
Through that success so many
people, directly and indirectly, have
benefited through our local
community and beyond.
Equipment Update
Dual Lane Trailer

In 2008, ATS entered a new market
segment with the purchase of its first
19 axle trailer. At that time it was a
huge step for the company and a big
leap to move from the 13 axle trailer
as the heavy haul flagship to the new
19 axle trailer that was now sitting in
front of the corporate office. This
trailer filled an empty space for us
both within the wind energy market
and across multiple heavy haul
segments.
After a couple years of experience
under our belts, a second 19 axle
trailer was ordered. We all wondered
how we got by without them. Not
long after that, the ATS Heavy Haul
and Projects teams began to debate
the best avenue to again increase
our hauling capacity. Was another 19
axle the right direction or was it time
to reach further?
That means that we will be permitting
this equipment for up to 700,000
pounds. This new trailer will provide
exciting new opportunities for the
company within many market
segments but especially within the
energy industry.
ATS will take delivery of the trailer by
July 1st. It will be equipped with a
perimeter deck which is designed to
greatly reduce loaded height. The
deck will extend up to 72’ long and
be capable of widths between 14’6”
to 20’6” wide. All dual lane loads will

numerous ideas put on the table,
until a consensus was reached in
2015.
It seemed only fitting that in 2015,
during the 60 year anniversary of
ATS, that a new flagship trailer would
be introduced. In February, an order
was placed with Trail King Industries
for a TK360 dual lane trailer.
A dual lane trailer is designed to
span over 2 road lane widths in order
to meet bridge engineering criteria
for a greatly increased permitted
vehicle capacity. The axles are
designed to expand from 14’ wide all
the way out to 20’ wide. This new
asset will take the ATS Heavy Haul
capacity for loads from
approximately 200,000 pounds all
the way up to 360,000 pounds
depending on where we are
operating within North America.

engineering that is not typical to
normal oversized/overweight
transport. The trailer will always
travel with a team of at least 6
people which includes a supervisor,
escorts and two drivers. Yes, two
drivers! Due to the weight of the
cargo, a push truck will always be
necessary to keep us moving.
We are very excited about this new
venture and will surely keep you
posted as we penetrate this market
segment!

Significant Haul for
ATS Specialized
ATS Referral
Program
ATS Logistics has experienced a
very positive growth trend over the
last 24 months. In efforts to enhance
and strengthen corporate recruiting
efforts, ATS has started offering a
Referral Bonus Program to our office
and shop employees. It is our belief
that ATS is a great place to work and
the referral program is great
opportunity for our employees to be
encouraged and rewarded for
sharing our opportunities with friends
and/or family.

$500 per hiring, the program has
paid out to date $7,500 to ATS

This is a current and active program
and applies to office and shop
employees at any of our offices,

avid outdoorsmen, they have kept in
contact since graduation by hunting
and fishing together. Well, after
learning that Dan was looking for a
new career, Danny suggested to Dan
that he should apply to a position
with ATS Logistics. As simply as
writing Danny Omann’s name as the
referral resource on the application,
the HR department reviewed,
screened and interviewed Dan
Olsen. With a successful interview
process, Dan was offered and
accepted a position in ATS Logistics
as a Sales Representative.
Danny was rewarded for his referral
and received half of the $500.00
referral bonus when Dan started and
after 90 days of employment, Danny
will receive the other half based on
retention. Since the success of the
referral process, several other
people have taken advantage of this
program.

ATS Specialized was honored to be
recognized for an inaugural shipment
of square balers for the John Deere
Ottumwa Works Factory in Ottumwa,
Iowa. The Ottumwa Post
documented the celebrated haul as
the factory brought its first new
product to the market in over twenty
years. The celebration began the
morning of February 25, 2015. After
each load was secured the semitrucks hauling the balers lined up in
front of the factory for police escort
that would showcase the machinery
in downtown Ottumwa before ending
at the town’s city hall. A small
ceremony was held as the Mayor
and Factory Manager recognized the
engineering effort put forth by the
John Deere employees.

Carriers and Rigging Association)
Conference ATS had the privilege to
donate a 2015 Can-AM Maverick
1000 during the final night of the
conference. All ticket sales benefited
the Specialized Carriers and Rigging
Foundation which provides industry
research, education, scholarships
and grants.

Million Mile Fishing Trip
ATS honored ten of its Million Mile
Drivers by taking them on an allexpense paid fishing trip to Florida.
Rollie Anderson, with the help of
Scott Anderson, Gary Stang, Vice
President of Specialized and Jeff
Potthoff, Vice President of Vans
hosted the lucky group of 10
drivers in early May.
These drivers were randomly
drawn out of pool of all million mile
safety drivers. The trip included
round trip private jet service from St
Cloud, MN to Boca Grande,
Florida, hotel accommodations,
great food at local restaurants,
fishing attire, 1 day of Backwater
Snook and Redfish fishing, and 1
day of Tarpon fishing as well as
plenty of time to bond and enjoy
the weather.

Shaping the Future
ATS Logistics set out on the course
for growth in 2014. The growth plan
was and remains driven by steadfast
ambition to ensure the division
further establishes its name and
services in the transportation
brokerage industry. Logistics’
expansion was met with such great
success for its sales subdivision,
results of its recruiting and
development efforts, a necessary
restructure was put in place to further
advance Logistics and its team
members.
With the consistent addition of new
members and as some members
progress, Director of Sales and
Marketing, Ty Holstrom wanted to
ensure the highest quality of
management was granted to each
current and incoming member of
ATS Logistics. This belief, along with
each individual’s performance
promoted Blake Anderson, Mike
Zarns and Todd Williams to Sales
Team Managers. The independent
management of each team creates a
very efficient way to scale up
business for the department.
Business that is created upon
progressing through a steep learning
curve involving months spent with
Logistics Training Manager, Mandy
Sweeter. By heading their own team
the Sales Management group
ensures that there is always an
effective resource to reach out for
guidance, problem solving solutions,
and encouragement of competition
within each team.
The restructure not only set the
stage for Logistics’ advancement but
also defines a career path for all in
the department and opens the door
for more opportunities.
Understanding the talent that exists
in their team, leaders in the division
added Senior National Sales
Representative as one its
designations for advancement. The
designation is for representatives
that have put forth the time and
effort, and excelled in their
performance, displaying the
opportunity to advance their place in
the department is attainable.
Logistics also had the fortunate
opportunity to open up an additional
regional office in Phoenix, Arizona.
The office was opened in April.

food. For the month of April, Anna
Marie’s Alliance was recognized
during the day of charity. Employees

ATS Make Waves
In late March, ATS Heavy Haul and
ATS International teamed up for a
challenging haul on behalf of the
United States Navy. The task, haul a
replacement rubber window for the
sonar dome of the USS John S.
McCain. The trip began at the US
naval base Cheatham Annex in
Williamsburg, Virginia. The window is
the largest single molded piece of
rubber in the world.

What is the importance of
Qualcomm Workflow?
Shipper requirements have become
much more stringent, which requires
a heavier level of detail. This level of
details falls on the shoulders of the
carrier. By sequencing every load
through a technologic system
everyone in the shipment process
stays accountable.
ATS understands that the time its
drivers and contractors have is
precious and they do not want to
waste it. Workflow provides an
improved method of presenting
information to drivers and contractors
through a user friendly design.
What are some steps that may be
taken in order to get a better
understanding of Workflow,
especially in regards to
navigation?
If a driver or contractor has any
question regarding proper navigation
of workflow they should contact their
Fleet Manager. Their Fleet Manager
will be their best resource for any
question he or she may have for
utilizing the program efficiently and
has the ability to pull up the specific
load the driver or contractor may be
hauling. Operations can certainly
direct a driver or contractor to Elogs
or another support document, yet the
best reference for questions
concerning workflow reside with
Fleet management.

Satellite to Text Load Offers
You talked, we listened.
Effective June 1, 2015 all drivers that have a text option available on their phone will be able to receive a notification via
text that a load offer has been sent out. The notification will be sent to your phone to notify you that a load offer has been
sent to the Qualcomm for you to review.
This option is already getting great reviews allowing drivers to get away from their trucks knowing that they will not miss
load opportunities. If you are not seeing a load offer notification via text, please get with your fleet manager to get this set
up. They will need your cell phone provider and cell number to set you up.

within a year, he was strong enough
to pass his physical and start looking
for work as a truck driver. “Other
employers said I was a high risk. But
when I contacted ATS, they said
they’d be very happy to have me
back! And I can’t say thank you
enough to them. ”
Two years ago Jay P. was enjoying a
lucrative career as a heavy haul
driver with ATS when he was
sidelined by Idiopathic Pulmonary
Fibrosis, a fatal lung condition. After
being given 6-18 months to live, the
Indiana-based father of three parked
the new Kenworth he’d bought just
three months earlier and sat on the
transplant list hoping to receive a
double lung transplant.
Today, Jay is working as an ATS
company driver and says he really
enjoys it. “After being an owner
operator since 2005, I was a little bit
skeptical on how I’d adjust. But it’s
very pleasurable,” he said. “I enjoy
not having to worry about so many
bills. I think it’s great. You can’t
imagine how great it is to come back
to making a normal paycheck after
being on disability. I’m like a kid in a
candy store!”
ATS was aware of Jay’s condition,
and right before his next truck
payment was due, he received a
phone call telling him that Anderson
was going to buy his truck from him.
“I had only made 3 payments and
still had 72 more to go,” Jay said. “I
couldn’t believe that they were going
to do that for me. The money I got
helped us keep afloat until I could be
approved to go on disability.”
Jay says he’s deeply impressed at
what ATS did for him — and deeply
grateful. “They are great people to
work with,” he said.
Jay received his double lung
transplant in December 2013 and

Driver Referral Fishing Contest
Contest Rules
Referral Period: August 1, 2014 - July 15, 2015
Qualifications:
In order to be eligible to refer a driver to ATS you have to be a current Company Driver or Independent Contractor with ATS.
Contest Description:
Each winner will receive an all-expense paid Walleye fishing trip.
ATS will choose 10 randomly selected drivers, along with the top 4 referring drivers from each division, as well as, the top
Fleet Manager from each Division to win an ALL EXPENSE paid trip to the Sportsman’s Lodge on Lake of the Woods in
Baudette, MN. This trip is hosted by the owners and senior management team of ATS including CEO, Rollie Anderson, COO,
Brent Anderson; President, Jake Wood, VP of ATS Specialized, Gary Stang and VP of ATS Inc., Jeff Potthoff. "This is our 4th
year of hosting this contest and each year takes this trip to new levels of fun and excitement,” said Scott Anderson.
This trip includes a private air charter, deluxe accommodations, custom shirts and caps. ATS also offers ONE WEEK’S gross
pay for each winning driver. "We want each driver to relax, have fun and create memories. The week's pay helps to take the

You must have a MINIMUM OF 3 DRIVER REFERRALS to qualify for the fishing trip drawing. Each driver referred and
certified during this contest period will each count as one “Ticket in the hat” for the drawing.
Example:
If you refer 3 drivers that get certified, your name goes into the drawing three (3) times. If you refer 5 drivers that get certified,
your name goes into the drawing five (5) times and so on. No limit to the amount of entries for a driver.
The top 2 active drivers from each of the Operating units with the most referrals are guaranteed a spot on the fishing trip! The
