Sue Middlehurst Principal & Chief Executive 2 3 ANNUAL REPORT 2011/2012 Chair’s Report 2011/2012 The year has seen a series of major steps forward in the development of the Grimsby Institute Group. I became Chair in January and thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Institute. During the year we made substantial changes to our buildings, with new construction on both of our main sites, in Grimsby and Scarborough. The opening of the University Centre Grimsby has given the learners of our region a facility in which to be proud and has boosted the whole campus site on Nuns Corner. At the same site we commenced the construction of our new Sports Centre, subsequently opened in May 2013. Again, a major step forward; enhancing our learner experience. We are committed to attaining the highest possible standards in everything we do. The Senior Management Team, led by our Principal, Sue Middlehurst, are rigourous in driving towards this goal, ably supported by dedicated staff. I would like to thank all of our staff for their continued ability to address positive change, and for their hard work and for the value and pride they take in supporting our learners. Sport We commenced the construction of our new Sports Centre, subsequently opened in May 2013. A major step forward ; enhancing our learner experience. During the year I have spent many hours listening to groups of learners , hearing about their experiences and challenges. The voice of our learners in determining our direction is of paramount importance to us and I would like to also take the opportunity to thank those learners who have given their time and their ideas with such enthusiasm. One of the keys to our future will be the relationship we build with our local community, including with local employers. The Grimsby Institute Group sees itself as a key member of the community, which goes beyond our core goal of providing quality education and training. The massive range of community activities undertaken by staff and learners is too extensive to mention here but does make a difference. In the current challenging environment, preparing our learners for the world of work, has never been more important. We are very grateful to those employers who engage with the Grimsby Institute Group. Going forward we want to take this to the next level, broadening our network of relationships, and the participation of employers in everything we do. The Grimsby Institute Group is an exciting place to be. Expectations on us continue to rise and rightly so! In a more demanding world, we are confident we can rise to the challenge. 4 Mike Parker Chair of the Corporation The voice of our learners in determining our direction is of paramount importance to us. 5 ANNUAL REPORT 2011/2012 Overview 2011/2012 Success has been celebrated across all campuses with students and staff showing their dedication throughout all curriculum areas.
