ANNUAL REPORT 2011/2012
Welcome
to the 2011/2012 Annual Report for the
Grimsby Institute Group
In 2011/2012 we taught over 22,000 learners and have
continued to strive for outstanding teaching and learning
to ensure we continue our core aim of putting the
learners at the heart of everything we do.
We have seen a large investment into our facilities across
the group carrying out significant refurbishment works to
improve the learner experience.
October 2011 saw the unveiling of our new £20m University Centre Grimsby
at our Nuns Corner Campus. The building offers Higher Education learners the
opportunity to study in state-of-the art facilities.
We also commenced work on our £4.2m Sports Centre, which was
subsequently completed in January 2013, and we are looking forward to many
more developments planned for the future to ensure our learners have access to
the very best facilities and resources.

October 2011 saw the unveiling of our new £20m
University Centre Grimsby at our Nuns Corner Campus.
Over the last year we have seen many learners
and staff win awards and accolades in a whole
variety of industries, which recognises the
quality, and dedication of the work being carried
across the Group.
Over the last year we have seen many learners and staff win awards and
accolades in a whole variety of industries, which recognises the quality and
dedication of the work being carried across the Grimsby Institute Group.
We have continued to build on our partnerships in the community supporting a
number of groups and individuals in a number of ways and we are working with
over 500 employers to provide training and development.
I was delighted to welcome our new Chair of the Corporation, Mike Parker,
along with new staff and student Governors who come with a wealth of varied
industry and educational experiences and knowledge.
The Senior Management Team and I would like to take this opportunity to

ANNUAL REPORT 2011/2012
Chair’s Report
2011/2012
The year has seen a series of major steps forward
in the development of the Grimsby Institute
Group. I became Chair in January and thoroughly
enjoyed my time with the Institute.
During the year we made substantial changes
to our buildings, with new construction on both
of our main sites, in Grimsby and Scarborough.
The opening of the University Centre Grimsby
has given the learners of our region a facility in
which to be proud and has boosted the whole campus site on Nuns Corner.
At the same site we commenced the construction of our new Sports Centre,
subsequently opened in May 2013. Again, a major step forward; enhancing our
learner experience.
We are committed to attaining the highest possible standards in everything
we do. The Senior Management Team, led by our Principal, Sue Middlehurst,
are rigourous in driving towards this goal, ably supported by dedicated staff. I
would like to thank all of our staff for their continued ability to address positive
change, and for their hard work and for the value and pride they take in
supporting our learners.
Sport
We commenced the construction of our new Sports
Centre, subsequently opened in May 2013. A major step
forward ; enhancing our learner experience.
During the year I have spent many hours listening to groups of learners ,
hearing about their experiences and challenges. The voice of our learners in
determining our direction is of paramount importance to us and I would like to
also take the opportunity to thank those learners who have given their time and
their ideas with such enthusiasm.
One of the keys to our future will be the relationship we build with our local
community, including with local employers. The Grimsby Institute Group sees
itself as a key member of the community, which goes beyond our core goal
of providing quality education and training. The massive range of community
activities undertaken by staff and learners is too extensive to mention here but
does make a difference.
In the current challenging environment, preparing our learners for the world of
work, has never been more important. We are very grateful to those employers
who engage with the Grimsby Institute Group. Going forward we want to
take this to the next level, broadening our network of relationships, and the
participation of employers in everything we do.
The Grimsby Institute Group is an exciting place to be. Expectations on us
continue to rise and rightly so! In a more demanding world, we are confident
we can rise to the challenge.

Success has been celebrated across all campuses
with students and staff showing their dedication
throughout all curriculum areas. Our reputation
for providing our learners with the right skills

Our investment into our staff development
programme goes from strength to strength and has
reinforced our commitment to ensuring our learners
are taught by highly skilled tutors.
We are extremely proud of the work we carry out
with local employers and groups to ensure we are
