Preucil School
of Music
 Develops the ability of children of all ages
for life-long enrichment or as career preparation. All teaching is based on the philosophy of Shinichi Suzuki, that all children can develop their abilities in music
and other areas if they learn in the manner that they learned to speak their
“mother tongue.”
 Fosters the growth of the whole person
through the development of self-esteem,
discipline and a respect for learning.
 Creates a musical environment in the
home and community.
 Provides an international training and
observation center for teachers.

Music Curriculum
“For the happiness of all children.”
Pianists are provided with these musical opportunities:
Individual Lessons
Training in the Suzuki Method is based on an individual lesson each week. Students ages five and older (including adults)
may enroll in individual weekly lessons; three and four-yearolds attend small group sessions twice a week.
Re c i t a l s
Students perform annually in a formal recital held in Wilson
Auditorium. Optional recitals include Book Recitals and Solo
Recitals for advanced students.
Chamber Music
Coaching sessions are offered for student quartets, trios
or other ensembles during the school year in a 10-week
Winter Chamber Program (January –March) and in a
one-week Summer Chamber Fest (June).
& Concerto Day
Piano students have a biannual Piano Festival held
in Walder Hall in December, as well as an annual
Concerto Day in the spring.
Master Classes
& Wo r k s h o p s
Each fall or spring, a piano clinician is brought in to the school
to present a weekend workshop to our Book 1 and 2 students.
Every 2 years, a piano clinician presents a workshop for students
in Book 5 and up. Occasionally, professional performing artists
visit the school to present Master Classes to our advanced students; all students are encouraged to attend.

Pi a n o P l a y - I n s
Play-ins for all piano students are offered
without charge periodically throughout the
year. Dates and times are printed in the yearly
calendar and posted prior to each event.
Students perform for each other as solos,
duos, and trios, and practice recital procedures at these motivational events.
Theor y
Pianists are encouraged to supplement individual lessons with Theory. Theory study greatly
aids the development of sight reading on the piano. Studio study, as well as a six-week comprehensive course divided into six developmental levels are offered.
Students in grades 9-12 may participate in this two-year
program which is structured to challenge each student to
read, write, hear and perform the musical language with
a high degree of literacy. Required classes include Literature and Materials of Music, Group Piano Instruction
(for string students), Chamber Music, Private Instrument
Lessons, String Orchestra and Piano Master Class. This
program is supported through a gift to the school.
