To: MCA Community
From: Mohammed Nadeem, Ph.D. President, MCA
Hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits, inshaAllah. I want to take
this opportunity to report to you that we’ve made significant progress with our projects as
highlighted in the MCA’s Annual Report of December 4th, 2009. Alhamdulillah, among
many regular programs/events at MCA, here is a list of 7 major accomplishments as of
the end of April 2010:
1. MCA Financial Audit: For the first time in the history of MCA, we’ve successfully completed an ‘external financial audit’ by a professional firm. The audit report (prepared by
our auditor, Alan David, CPA) will become available upon request from the MCA Finance
Office within two weeks. I am pleased to report to you that MCA received a ‘Clean Opinion’. MCA’s financial condition, position, and operations are fairly presented in the financial statements and are in accordance with the US GAAP standards.
2. MCA Foundation: We had launched the MCA Foundation Project back on the First of
Ramadan last year, August, 2009. MCA Boards have filed the appropriate documentation
with the State of California and is in the process of obtaining a tax exempt status from
the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board.
3. MCA – Imam Suhaib Contract: MCA has signed an ‘Independent Contractors Agreement’ with MAS for Imam Suhaib Webb for his role as a ‘Community Educator’ effective
this Fall 2010 for the next three years. Imam Suhaib will provide much needed educational services and programs to our Community, along with supporting the outreach efforts to our neighbors and friends from other traditions of the Bay Area.
4. MCA’s Expansion/Leadership Role: MCA is getting ready to begin construction within
its current premises to add 9,000 sq. ft of additional space for our Community to enjoy.
Simultaneously, we’re about to enter into negotiations with our next door building owners, 3033 Scott Blvd, primarily for the Granada School expansion and MCA’s growing space
requirements. In addition, because of our stability recently we've extended support to
Muslim Community Center (MCC) of San Ramon and Silicon Valley Islamic Center (SVIC) of
Morgan Hill with their Majsid/Islamic Center projects. Earlier this week MCA demonstrated
its leadership role in the Bay Area Muslim Community by hosting a meeting organized by
Islamic Networks Group and welcoming an honorable guest from The White House, Paul
Monteiro, President Obama’s Religious Liaison and Deputy Associate Director, Office of
Public Engagement---accompanied by Peter Groff: Director, Center for Faith-Based and
Neighborhood Partnerships, U.S. Department of Education. The meeting on ‘Engaging Education Partners’ to share President Obama’s education agenda to heighten academic
achievement--- was well represented by the leadership of 30 mosques, advocacy, cultural,
interfaith, educational, and youth organizations. Among others, the attendees included:
Zahra Billoo (CAIR); Bhawana Kamil (MAS); and Sheikh Alaeddin AlBakri .
5. MCA’s Constitution Amendments: MCA Board’s received ‘a proposal for amendment to
the Constitution (Article XV, Section 2)’. We’ve also the collected Community’s input/feedback on the proposed amendments via the Constitution Review Committee (CRC).
Based on the MCA Board’s review and approval of the proposal for the amendments earlier
this month, I am calling for (Article XV, Section 2-The President shall call) a General Body
Meeting to vote on the proposed amendment(s). MCA General Secretary will mail copies
(Section 3-shall mail) of the amendments proposal with the meeting agenda soon to all
currently registered MCA members to attend the General Body meeting. If approved, MCA
Executive Board will implement the amendments accordingly.
6. MCA’s New Website: MCA has singed a contract agreement with a local Web Development firm to enhance and upgrade the MCA website and the newsletter. A more dynamic
and interactive website with a fresh ‘look and feel’ will go-live soon.
7 MCA - US Census 2010: For the first time during a US Census process, MCA joined hands
with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and is receiving grant money to promote US
Census 2010 awareness, to enhance Mail Participation Rate, and motivate our Community
to be counted.
I want to thank Allah (swt) for His grace & mercy, and our Community members for
their contributions, and their incredible passion for MCA’s noble programs, and projects. I
also want to thank MCA’s neighbors and the City of Santa Clara in advance for its support
of our current and anticipated projects, and permit requirements as we continue to take
MCA to the next level. I am humbled and honored by Allah (swt) for the opportunity to
serve to lead MCA, and it continues to be a beautiful experience. Thank you.
