Anchored by the conviction to contribute
back to the society, OCC recognises that
corporate social responsibility is just as
important to help build a better world.
On 21 February, more than 300 cyclists
gathered at the Social Clubhouse for the
Cycle Out of Poverty event, which helped
to raise $50,000 for Habitat for Humanity
Singapore.
In addition, OCC has recently donated used
golf balls from the Driving Range in a fund
raising initiative where senior volunteers
gave these golf balls a second lease of life
by decorating them into ornaments for sale
in upcoming community events to raise
funds for the needy seniors. The Club is
honoured to be part of this initiative, which
would mean better usage of the used golf
balls. This also creates a platform for seniors
to stay active while contributing back to the
society by helping other seniors.

feedback from members and golfers. To
encourage members to golf more at OCC,
members can now bring three guests at the
price of two. Furthermore, members can
now enjoy 50 per cent more golf balls by
topping up your range card whenever you
visit the Driving Range on Fridays.
If you are planning for an overseas golfing
trip, we have a couple of new access club
arrangements to share. You can now visit
the Tering Bay Golf and Country Club in
Indonesia, as well as four of the Sun Island
International Clubs in China. We believe
their challenging terrains would thrill both
professional and recreational golfers alike.
Meanwhile, the second OCC 3Ten Run is
back with increased zest and vigour. This is
Singapore’s only 27-hole night golf course
run! It promises to bring bonding and fun
to your family. If you are keen in taking
up a challenge to a higher level, beat your
personal best at the OCC Blueseventy Urban
Aquathlon! With a swim distance of 400m
at OCC’s Olympic-sized Swimming Pool, be
the first to emerge as champion to complete
a 3km run.
Next, as we waltz into our upcoming annual
signature event, the August Ball 2016 will
paint the Grand Ballroom’s dance floor a hue
of red and black on 20 August. For those who
prefer singing to dancing, check out the new
Karaoke promotions. Be part of the Karaoke
Loyalty Card Programme and get rewarded
with 2 hours of free singing session on your
next visit via stamp collection. As you seek
respite at Aranda Lounge, spend $20 on
drinks and receive a free spin on our Lucky
Draw Wheel to win great prizes!
Finally, do not miss our annual May Fest 2016
event. Taking a local twist this year, indulge
in your all-time favourite hawker food on
07 May 2016. Be sure to purchase your
vouchers at $40 per booklet and immerse in
an evening of live band performances, stage
games and many more.
We hope to see you soon at OCC!

We are delighted to share that OCC has signed a new access agreement with Tering Bay Golf
and Country Club! Crafted by one of the world’s leading golf professionals and celebrities, Greg
Norman, the club was designed to be breathtaking and challenging with its par 72 course. Golfers
can enjoy the beautiful view as Tering Bay is laid out amidst rolling hills, lush tropical greenery and
pristine lakes.
The club is located on a site of over 167 hectares overlooking the picturesque bay north of Batam
with the water acting as a functional centrepiece for many of the holes. While it is challenging to
clear these water hazards and risky bunkers, it definitely offers OCC members a rewarding golfing
experience. Visit the club soon!

The Kunshan Sun Island is the largest of Sun Island's four golf courses. It is largely
dominated by bunkers with each hole having 12 or more of them. To add on to the challenge, water
hazards are also aplenty and well positioned. With a stunning display of foliage, its picturesque
landscape will certainly entice both professional and recreational golfers. Under the Sun Island
group, keen golfers may also visit the other three courses in Suzhou, Nanjing and Yangzhou.

CLUB BULLETIN
TEE TALK
The Straits Times Feature:
Old golf balls come in
handy to help needy
As part of OCC’s corporate social responsibility
to give back to the community, the Club donated
used golf balls for a fund raising initiative where senior
volunteers from Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC
turned them into reusable ornaments such as paper
weights and Christmas decorations at a craft-making
session earlier in April 2016. To raise a fund of $10,000
to support wellness-related programmes for the seniors
in the neighbourhood, these ornaments will be sold at
various community events over a period of one year.
Proceeds will be used to subsidise vaccinations, health
screenings and daily health essentials for the needy.
Golfing Beyond Boundaries – Friendly Match
This annual golf friendly game with our friends from Tomisato Golf Club (Japan) kicked
off early in the morning of 24 February 2016. There were 32 participants, mainly 17 golfers from
Orchid Country Club and 15 Japanese golfers, which made up a total of nine flights with two tee
starts from Aranda and Dendro courses. The rain came in the late morning and stopped play.
However, it did not dampen the mood of the participants as they happily trotted to Vanda Terrace
for an early lunch.
It was a challenging but fun game. The event organisers decided to take the score of nine holes
which were completed by the whole field. Singapore team, with players’ average age of 55 years
old, won with a combined score of 355 points. Japan team, with an average age of 70 years came
in strong with 388 points. It seemed from the laughter and high spirits at the prize presentation
that everyone was a winner. The passion for golf was celebrated together with no boundary to age
or country. The main objective of this annual game to build camaraderie between the local and
Japanese golfers was achieved.
We thank all participants for their constant support and sportsmanship, and look forward to the
return match in 2017!
Golf Course Improvement Update
Sub-soil drainage works at Aranda Course
We are glad to inform that the sub-soil drainage improvement works on Aranda Holes 4, 7, 8
and 9 had completed. This project was intended to address the waterlogging and poor drainage
problems that we used to encounter after every heavy downpour.
Our appointed contractor, TEHC International, was engaged to carry out the rectifications which
took two weeks to complete. During the sub-soil works at the 4 affected holes, the surrounding
areas were cordoned off and marked with GUR (Ground Under Repair) signs or by white lines.
The newly planted Zoysia grass would require an additional week or two to establish properly.
Our ongoing improvement works are carried out to ensure that our golfers will have an enjoyable
round of golf from tee to green. We look forward to seeing you soon at our newly improved
fairways in your next game.
Happy golfing!
Congratulations to our winners for the OCC Driving Range Gong Xi Fa Cai Lucky Draw
2016 which took place from 01 Jan to 22 Feb 2016. We would like to thank everyone for your support!

Invitational Golf Game 2016 at OCC on 18
March 2016. More than 20 golfers teed off
in high spirits on the beautiful greenery of
Dendro and Vanda courses. This friendly
match brought the golfing leaders of various
clubs in Singapore closer and camaraderie
was built through laughter and enjoyment
over a gastronomic dinner at Peach Garden.
in the Year of the Monkey on the lush greeneries of Aranda, Dendro and Vanda courses on 21
February, the 14th day of Lunar New Year. Fellow golfers enjoyed one another’s company especially
during the dinner which commenced with a boisterous lion dance that got many golfers on their
feet. Joyous music enfolded the Sapphire Suite while golfers enjoyed an array of classic Chinese
delicacies. To drum up the festive mood, golfers also received a red packet each from the God of
Fortune, blessing everyone with good health and great success. The night culminated with a Hong
Bao Golf Lucky Draw where the lucky winners won lavish Chinese New Year hampers and prizes.
Cheers to a flourishing year ahead!

2nd OCC CRM Cup Invitational
Golf Friendly 2016
Returning after much success in 2014, the longawaited OCC CRM Cup Invitational Golf Friendly 2016 on
30 March was a roaring feat. Over 140 golfers consisting
of the unions, esteemed corporate partners and business
associates from the social enterprises teed off on the vast
greenery of Dendro and Vanda courses. Amongst the golfers
were Mr Patrick Tay (Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC),
as well as Mr Emmanuel Lem (Senior Assistant Director for
Ministry of Manpower) and COL (Ret) Peter Teo (General
Manager for Singapore Golf Association). Besides the 18-hole
match, fellow golfers enjoyed various novelty games such as
“Nearest the Pin” and “Longest Drive”, specially organised for
them. The event concluded on a high note with a networking
dinner at Emerald suite and lucky draw prizes ranging from
Golf equipment to massage and facial packages being given
away. Once again, OCC would like to thank all participants
for their active involvement and relentless support towards
the Club’s activities all these years.

In the early hours of 21
February 2016, more than 300
cyclists gathered at the Social
Clubhouse of OCC for Cycle Out
Poverty, raring to cycle up to 80km
to raise funds for the StarBuilders
programme by Habitat for Humanity
Singapore. The programme provides
youths from underprivileged
backgrounds with opportunities
to travel to developing nations to
make a difference by building homes
for low-income communities. The
Guest-of-Honour, Mr Peter Goh,
OCC General Manager, flagged
off the event where hundreds of
cyclists pedalled out of OCC for
a 40km or 80km route, enjoying
the lush scenery along the way.
Despite returning to OCC exhausted,
participants completed a great ride
and fulfilled a meaningful cause.
Cycle Out Poverty raised $50,000
for Habitat for Humanity Singapore,
and the event culminated with a
delectable buffet lunch at Aranda
Lounge where OCC was presented
a plaque for being a valued venue
sponsor.

than 120 glamorous social dancers
waltzed on the dance floor of
Aranda Lounge for the first OCC
Dance Fiesta of 2016. The sellout
event was an evening of social
dancing and a feast of a sumptuous
9-course buffet dinner. Participants
grooved to a repertoire of popular
songs played by our in-house DJ
Dennis Goh throughout the night.
The event culminated in a lucky
draw that saw many lucky winners
walking away with prizes which
included house wines and karaoke
vouchers. The best dressed male
and female dancers of the night
were also awarded with attractive
prizes in appreciation of their
enthusiastic participation to light up

CNY Tuan Bai 2016
The Grand Ballroom was filled with festive mood on 13 February 2016 as OCC ushered
in the Year of the Monkey on the 6th day of the Spring Festival with a Chinese New Year Tuan Bai
event. OCC members were welcomed by an exhilarating Lion Dance performance, presenting
everyone with 4 lucky digits and blessing the crowd with good health and fortune for the year.
This was followed by the traditional tossing of Yusheng (Lou Hei) where members were guided
by the stage host to recite auspicious Chinese phrases while mixing various ingredients together.
Music wafted through the ballroom as the live band, Shili and Adi, delivered a repertoire of songs.
Members also sent in their song dedications to express their affection to their loved ones this
new year. The highlight of the event was a special appearance by the God of Fortune who went
from table to table, distributing chocolate gold coins to members while they enjoyed a sumptuous
8-course sit down lunch from Peach Garden. The event culminated in a Lucky Draw that saw 12
lucky winners walking away with attractive prizes. Cheers to a bountiful year ahead!

1 Day Durian Trip
Durian! This word invokes reactions from deep appreciation
to intense disgust. Often regarded by the people of
Southeast Asia as the “King of Fruit”, the durian is best
known for its distinct odor and thorny exterior. Described
by some as smelling like rotten onions, turpentine and even
sewage, aficionados will tell you that the durian tastes
better than it smells. Join us in June for a durian feast in
Malaysia, a day-trip not to be missed!
