Fougeirol - Office de Tourisme - ARC Welcome to the Tourist Office of the Compiègne Urban Area Pont Neuf THE SALT STORE The Deportation Car Memorial, set in the station at Compiègne-Margny-lèsCompiègne, traces the Deportation by rail and is intended as a memorial to the 45,000 prisoners, deported to the “death camps” from here, between 1942 and 1944, during the last World War. This is a supplement to the “Royallieu” Transit Camp in Compiègne (n°17), and shows just how the prisoners came here on foot guarded by the Nazi soldiers, and their living conditions during the terrible train journey. Two railway cars have been restored to their original state, true to the records of the time, and silhouettes and a number of films showing accounts by former deportees can be seen here. This architectural jewel, whose construction started in 1867 at the request of Napoleon III, was inaugurated in 1991 after lying dormant for a long time. The Théâtre Impérial is exceptional for its capacity, and also for its acoustics, among the best in the world. The only opera house in Picardy, the Théâtre shows operas, musical shows, concerts, ballets, etc. Return as you came and in front of you is the Rue des Minimes which will take you to the Saint-Pierre-desMinimes church. rue Pa Open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Open on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 8 The great door with a pediment and bosses was designed by the architect Cl. Nicolas Ledoux in 1784. Continue along the Rue des Lombards, 50 metres farther on on the right.
